Customer service here is terrible, people coming in asking questions regarding the soda machine and other questions just to be met with rude answers and remarks about basic customer needs. Very unprofessional and just to be paired with mediocre food, is why this establishment gets the rating it does. This place was a nice surprise! We happened to be in the neighborhood and did a quick Yelp to see what was handy. It looked like it might not be open, it looks like kind of a sad looking masonry storage building with some picnic tables outside. The inside is cramped, and I can imagine gets pretty crowded, but we stopped for a late lunch so it was fine, just a few people. Two hard working, friendly dudes whip up some tasty Hawaiian food, it's what you'd expect but I was very happy with the portion sizes (choice of 3 sizes) and quality of the food. We ordered the teriyaki beef (a short wait for this but well worth it) and the Kahlua pork. Both very well prepared, tender and juicy. The macaroni salad was tasty! A lady came in and just ordered like 7 portions of the mac salad to go, which is always a good sign. Prices are as expected, about $30 for 2 people. Pretty much everywhere you go to eat in Spokane is expensive (even after a year of living here I'm still suffering sticker shock), but even a small plate lunch will give leftovers so it's not a bad deal. 4/5 stars only because the place could have been a little cleaner, not horrible but it's kind of dark and dingy inside the entry, which could be spruced up a bit. read more

I placed an order on the phone and sat in the parking lot for it to be made, went inside 20 min later for them to say I placed it at the wrong location... I'm like there's no way but k I'll call and ask which location it was I ordered with and it was absolutely them and he's like oh sorry I don't know but I can start it now for you... so it's like why lie if you forgot my order say that... lol why would I want to wait another 20 minutes idk it really pissed me off and that's not the first time at that one. I ordered teriyaki chicken....because it was ready to go....is it teriyaki chicken or does the sauce make it so? Instead of rice I asked for noodles= .90 up-charge. Noodles are like spaghetti....which cost .50 a box.... As it's my first time I wanted to try all their sauces...when female employee alerted me they charge for sauce cups...as I rolled my eyes and contemplated returning the styrofoam box of food...but I had already paid....so she gave me a free plastic sauce container.... The place is old and dirty inside and food is hanging out in chaffing plates.....so no fresh prep of my food.....it's like bbq that's hanging out all day.... Pea salad is ok....chicken is moist and has good flavors....no Hawaiians in the House.... Hot sauce is pretty good! $15 and change plus a $1 tip.... A great little restaurant with awesome food. There are a few small tables (and a few outside tables when weather permits) but usually they are taken up by people waiting for their orders, so it's more of a take-out set-up. We love the Kalua pork served a few nights a week (they just sold out right before I got here tonight (5:45 pm), a very busy Saturday night ), as well as the lava bites. Tonight we are having teriyaki beef and chicken, both which are delicious and for around ten bucks come with rice and macaroni or pea salad depending on the day). The waiting area has a 11x5 (approx) space. In that space has a "sauce" stand and a table for 2. They have a small tv mounted on the wall but I've never seen it on. This is a "square" location. Meaning they receive credit cards etc with a square reader. The reader has a minimum tip fee of 10%. Okay - lets talk about food: -Sauce: the Katsu sauce is a little strong but they are generous in giving them with to-go orders. -Spam Musubi: Traditionally - spam musubi's are totally covered with seaweed around the long side. I have noticed that in Spokane - they only use about an inch and a half to wrap the spam and rice with. I'm not a fan of that. I do however at times ask them to wrap the whole side even if it costs me extra. I think this is their way of saving cost by not using too much seaweed wraps. Pork with rice and Mac: I would stay away from this dish. Even through they are generous with it's serving - the meat is just dry. At times it is too dry. I would stick with the Chicken and occasionally beef plates. The service is good. Usually there will be one to two employees behind the counter. They are the cook and cashier. Overall impression: It's an ok spot. I would recommend summertime if you want to eat out - since there is no indoor seating for more than 2. OR - if you're up for just a take-out order. Don't expect much as far as an authentic island style food. The final question is "Would I come back?" - yes - on occassion - when I am craving some spam Musubi. Ordered the Kalua pork last night and it was sooo salty it was inedible (and I love salt). Macaroni salad was good tho.

(The 4 star rating is actually a 3.5 star) I've always been a fan but recently I've been let down by my favorite teriyaki place. Aloha Island Grill's menu offers a mix of Hawaiian plate lunch favorites served with rice and macaroni salad - Chicken Katsu, Garlic Chicken, Kalua Pork on certain days and a few more items. My personal favorite is the teriyaki chicken. It may sound boring but it honestly is the best teri chicken I've had. The grilled chicken is cooked until "fall of the bone tender" (the teri chicken is boneless). It's the combination of char grilling and fall off the bone tender that keeps me coming back. I've tried at home and at the various places I've worked to duplicate the recipe but have been unsuccessful. Unfortunately, I may have to keep trying to duplicate the recipe because Aloha Island Grill has decided to continue to raise the prices of their meals. This is probably the fourth time they've raised the price in the last 4 years. I understand that prices are going up and suppliers are starting to add fuel surcharges but the recent price hike has left me shaking my head. On top of the price hike I've noticed the portion sizes are gettting smaller. I hope that my most recent experience (smaller portions) was due to the new guy who was training and they have corrected the problem. I'll give them another try and update my post. read more

Employees aren't wearing masks when customers aren't in the building. Not sanitizing their hands. When they do wear their masks, they are being worn under their nose. This place has absolutely fantastic food. I cannot speak to its authenticity but it's delicious. Teriyaki chicken and pulled pork are flavorful and tender and the sauces are excellent. Staff is friendly enough and quite efficient. The only thing that keeps this from being five star is that the place is a bit dingy both in and out. I get that this place has been there forever but perhaps it's time for a makeover. I don't think it's unsanitary but it really lacks a wow factor of someplace that's bright & shiny. read more

When everyone says that this place is small, they weren't kidding. The moment you walk in you're right by the ordering counter. Their teriyaki chicken was as good as everyone said, super moist and flavorful. Chicken katsu was pretty standard but I think it's hard to mess up deep fried chicken. We rolled into town starving and looking for something a little different. I yelped up this place and was super excited because I'm from Hawaii and haven't had local food in quite a long time. The menu was a little complex for a hole in the wall. I mean this place is small. There's enough standing room for maybe 4 people to order but then you'll certainly have to go outside to one of the tables. The prices were ok. What I expect from a mainland place serving a specialty item. The food was so-so. I wouldn't go back. It was decent, nothing was gross, but if we were in Hawaii, there would be so many other places to choose from, that I would choose them over this place. The mac salad was good but then again we were starving, so would it be good on a regular day? The rice was not that great. I am not sure that I've seen any mainland place cook rice right. Are they using a rice cooker? Doesn't seem like it. The chicken was good and I liked the spicy sauce. I don't live in the area, but if I did, I might stop in to try the other menu items, just to give them a fair shot, but from what I had this day, I don't expect that they'd become one of my regular stops. Though I had seen this place while driving by several times, I never actually went inside until my brother kept recommending it over and over again. And, boy, was he right. I called ahead and ordered the teriyaki meat takeout with macaroni salad. Ordering was very simple, and the friendly staff member took my order and told me it would be ready in about 10 minutes. I arrived in exactly 10 minutes, and my order was ready to go. My goodness... what a delicious meal. I made two mistakes: 1. I was hungry, so I ordered the big portion. Holy cow! I am a big eater, but there was no way I could finish more than half of what came in the box. But, I do have a delicious lunch for tomorrow. 2. While they give you two small extras of their teriyaki sauce, because of the fact that their sauce is delicious and not too salty, I should've asked for more. They put a good amount, but I like to drench my teriyaki meals. With a medium size soda, the total came to $18. Absolutely fair for the amount of food you get. The rice was delicious, the macaroni salad was creamy and flavorful, and the meat was absolutely delicious. No grissly or fatty parts. The only downside is that I live in the valley, no I would not be surprised by myself making the drive just to experience this food again. I only came here because I didn't feel like cooking my own "Hawaiian" food and based off of reviews, I decided to give it a chance. As a person that was born and raised in Hawaii, let me just say THIS IS NOT IT!! I had the garlic chicken and a musubi and my boyfriend had the kalua pig. Kalua pig was dry and the garlic chicken had a lot of garlic. Usually I don't believe in the statement "too much garlic" but it wasn't fresh garlic and it was from the bottle and it was gross. I left my keys on the counter and drove away (husband happened to have 2nd set) and they saw my ymca tag and they called the ymca to tell them I left my keys and the ymca called me!! I just spent a week in Hawaii so it's hard for me to even give this place 2 stars. I love the portion sizes, a small plate is bigger than large plates anywhere else. You get a generous scoop of rice and mac salad with a small plate. The problem was the rice was cooked with way too much water and was basically formed into one solid rice ball. The mac salad is good, it has some potato in it, and a bunch of mayo. They might as well call their lava bites, boneless buffalo chicken wings. I love myself some buffalo wings, but not at a Hawaiian place. It just wasn't the flavor profile I expected, it's basically frank's hot sauce on their garlic fried chicken. I've had their kalua pork in the past and it's been solid, I think it really depends on what you order here, but I haven't been here enough to figure it out. Just be prepared to eat a ton of grease and oil. The employees are friendly and work fast inside the small shack. Expect a small crowd during lunch time. read more

I went to Hawaii and while there I tried a variety of Island dishes and mac salad variations, and I just want to say that NOTHING compares to Aloha Island Grill. Not only is the staff full of some of the coolest people you'll ever meet, the food is impeccable. I get khalua pig or crispy garlic chicken almost every time, always with an extra side of mac salad. It pays to call ahead sometimes because it's so good they run out of the pig. You seriously need to try it even if you just go for the Mac salad! Sadly, the location on Monroe Street has really gone down hill. We have not visited this location for several years. We were hoping for some great food, but that wasn't the case. Our food was not freshly cooked. Unfortunately our to go order temp was comparable to Room temperature. The teriyaki meat and noodles needed loads of sauce to get any flavor out of it. This was a sure let down. The cleanliness is a whole separate issue. Bare Wires leading no where coming out of an electrical box in the ceiling above the food prep area looked as if it was either insulated in old 1940's cloth insulation or just coated in fuzzy dust dirt. Wish I could give 0 stars... First of all, the new girl that was working was doing ALL the work with little to no assistance from the red haired girl working... Placed an order on the phone was told 20 minutes for the garlic chicken and the whole order would be complete in 25 minutes ... when we got there to pick up the food it was then said we'd have to wait and extra 25 minutes for the mushroom, to which I replied, I would like to skip out on the mushroom, and just get teriyaki chicken. They both looked right at me and ignored the comment. Then they proceeded to continue with everyone else's orders that were coming in after I had, giving away our chicken to people that came in after. So then they had to make more chicken adding to the already 30 minutes I had been there. I then mentioned I was on a time crunch and needed to get out of there, to which the red haired girl responded stating I knew how long it would take. Instead of acknowledging their wrong doing they continued to argue with me on how expensive their mushroom is, and how I'm in the wrong. Also, their teriyaki sauce was terrible and not the same. The guys behind the counter are friendly enough but quick and no nonsense. I had my lunch in less than ten minutes. I ordered the teriyaki chicken big plate, not knowing that they MEAN big. It came with a lot of tender, moist chicken, two large scoops of white rice, and a bunch of pea salad, which is delicious but may not be as healthy as the term "salad" connotes. I could only eat half of my lunch. Leftovers! There is very little inside seating, but it is a gorgeous day. Came out to try out some Hawaiian food since I'm from Hawaii. There's only 2 people working and I ordered first among 4 of my friends, and received my order last. I got chicken katsu, and two of my friends got chicken katsu also. So far the service is really bad. I thought it wouldn't be as bad, but I'm very disappointed. My friends and I waited for an hour for our food. But as for the food, it was better than what I thought. They have a lot of varieties. But if you're in a rush, I wouldn't come here. & they run out of things real fast. They ran out white rice real fast, so does their salads. Kyle took the order with our 10 Min ETA time and said along the way "tell your friends" we are open. Get there for pick up with 6 others in the lobby and wait 20 min for our order that was never started in advance. While I sat there waiting for my food I noticed a few things. A half an inch thick grease ring in the frier, the hut is super dirty, and food I'd gross. I love this type of food but this is sooo bad, if I locate the correct phone number at the city office I am making a complaint. I went to the North location on Francis. The prices have significantly been raised. The portions were smaller, the quality of the food has seriously declined. The staff were rude and there were many unclean things both in the restaurant and the restrooms. I will never give them my business again and highly encourage others to make the same choice. If I could offer negative stars I would. It was that bad!!! I have worked in food service and try to show compassion to others who currently work in the field, but this time there was no way to avoid such true dismay with them. I decided to try these folks for the first time. I ordered the stir fry. I didn't get the stir fry and they said they substituted with chicken. This wasn't chicken. It was pork. It was "ok" and they tried to step on it with a ton of bland macaroni salad. I dunno man. I guess I would give them credibility if they didn't lie. I understand you are out of stock, but don't say something is chicken when it is pork. If you can't fulfill the order asked for you should not have the option of providing a substitute for the same price. The order should be cancelled. I know there is a checkbox to do this, but we shoudn't have to do that. Businesses should have more due dilligence to update their site and mark things that are out of stock so people don't order them and get a lump of pork and macaroni salad instead. This will be the first and last time I order anything from this business. Edit: This was the infamous Monroe Location. Do not fault the Francis location. This place is nasty. To begin with, it's very dirty and looks very unsanitary while they are cooking your food. When you walk in, you notice how dingy the place looks. Even the tables are not clean and had teriyaki drops all over them making the tables sticky. When we received our food, it was tasteless and very minimal. We had to ask for a refund because it was almost inedible. The bread tastes like it had freezer burn and the burger was dry with nothing on it except a slice of pineapple. I will say the fries were ok. The teriyaki bowl felt very soggy and the macaroni side salad was tasteless. This may just be the Monroe location as I've heard the Northern one is better. This place takes the cake in rudeness. The employees don't wash their hands at all!!! They charge you about 15.00$ for a scoop of salad and a piece of dried out chicken with dry white rice. WTF Ok whatever, but then, after you pay for that shit. Delicious, no-frills Hawaiian food in the heart of Spokane - who woulda thunk it? The portions are generous and the sauces are flowing. The lunch specials typically come with a teriyaki and BBQ in a to-go cup, but I'd also recommend the Lava Sauce (you can ask for some in a to-go container and they might charge you, or you can fill up your plate with some from the squirt bottle).
