I'm not sure that these folks actually want to adopt out their rescue pups. Was approved and got…read morean email stating I was approved. Second email said wait 5-7 days and respond with dogs you're interested in, which I did. Never heard back. Ended up going to a local rescue and adopted a senior companion with special needs to add to the family. Our last rescue we had for over 11 years and we kept in touch with not only his rescue (yearly with donations and events), but with the actual person who rescued him. We are sorry ARF turned out to be such a disappointment with no communication after application approval. But nonetheless, it worked out for us and the rescue we rescued from. I was warned in the therapy dog community not to attempt to adopt from them and they were correct. Hate to leave a bad review since it's all volunteers, but simple communication goes a long way when there are a lot of pups waiting for forever homes out there.

I was so excited to visit during their highly touted "open viewing" day because I just retired and…read morehave been looking for a small dog now that I will be home all day. Unfortunately, "open viewing" meant looking at these poor animals inside their small cages, which did not even have water, a blanket, or a toy for comfort. Every single dog was stressed and laying on a hard metal floor. Scared dogs were next to ones who barked nonstop. I asked the worker if but they ever got out of those small cages, and she said it depended on how many volunteers they had. It was heartbreaking to see the animals like that without even a towel to lay on or bowl of water. Two siblings had arrived together but were separated and kept on opposite sides of the room so they couldn't even see each other! There is no excuse for that. The worker could not answer even basic questions about ANYA of the dogs, and would not let me meet the dog I was interested in or even let her sniff my fingers to see how she reacted. She refused to have the dog cat- tested unless I had an approved application on file. Why would I spend 2 hours filling out a long, detailed application, attach documents and photos, and bother my references before I even knew whether the dog would be okay with my cats? She told me they didn't want to waste their time if people weren't serious about adopting. I guess it's ok to waste my time filling out a lengthy application for a dog I haven't even met yet. This is NOT the way to find animals loving homes!

There's only one person working here and it was really busy for that one person to handle. She was really friendly and really knows the dogs and her passion shows. The store itself has a great selection of great products for sale that go right back to funding the operation. We purchased some pictures and other home decor items that were perfect for our home. For those of you who know me, know that I love my pooch Ryno. He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and yes, is treated like royalty. I have yet to meet a Cavalier that hasn't been sweet, awesome, and overall just a great catch! I have not adopted from this rescue, but know people who have, I've also met a few people affiliated with the rescue at various meet ups and dog shows throughout IL and even WI. :-) You couldn't ask for a bunch of better people! Here's a little about their mission (taken from their website): GCCR's mission is to help ensure the health and security of abused, abandoned, and otherwise endangered Cavalier King Charles Spaniels by rehabilitating and placing Cavaliers from shelters and similar situations, by assisting breeders and owners in finding new homes for their Cavaliers, and by providing to the public educational materials and consultation regarding Cavalier health and care. I rescued my senior dog from this rescue back in 2020. We loved this dog very much and he gave us…read moresuch happiness for the last 5 years. Please beware of this rescue. Unless it has changed read their contract which states that they will not let you change the microchip to your name, it stays in the rescues name so that if your dog gets picked up by animal control they will charge you if you want the dog back. Quigley was my dog and I put my phone number on his collar but he was a very loyal dog and did not ever run away. My current vet said that rescues aren't supposed to refuse to change the microchip. You pay for the dog...it is yours forever.
