We came for food to find out they were no longer here and they moved downtown with a different name.

The restaurant is within walking distance of downtown hotels, so I enjoyed the walk over while taking in a little of the city. As soon as I walked in, I loved the atmosphere. It has a classic old school feel with lots of history, photos of celebrities who've dined there over the years, a beautiful bar, and a timeless charm that's hard to find these days. I kept it simple and ordered the chef's seafood special, and wow...it completely caught me by surprise. It reminded me a little of crawfish étouffée, but with more seafood and its own unique flavor. It's hard to describe, but it was absolutely delicious and one of the best meals I had during my trip. The drinks were excellent too (sorry, no pictures because I was too busy enjoying them), and the service was friendly from start to finish. Business trips don't always come with memorable meals, but this one definitely did. The next time I'm in Portland, Jake's will be one of my first stops.

The oysters were spot on and you really cannot go wrong with PNW oysters. They were briny but great. The wedge salad was out of this world. I would rate this as one of the top wedge salads I've ever had. But then it only got better when the Bouillabaisse showed up. Holy sloppy happiness Batman. When they bring a bib to the table, get ready for some goodness. Then entire experience from the ambiance to the food and service were all fantastic. I would highly recommend everything I had and will definitely be back to further indulge.

Wow we were in for a surprise! The waiter was very friendly and efficient, and kept the service moving. We never waited too long for anything either, whether it be cocktails, water fills, the bill. The food was delicious! Unusual combinations and flavorful, I wish I could remember what each dish was - I do remember we loved each one and wish this restaurant was in SF so we could come back regularly. It's a relaxing space - well-designed, with spacious half-moon booths in a room with floor-to-ceiling windows and soothing folksy blues on the sound system. I had the Bullard Breakfast and went the virtuous route with the avocado option. Beautifully presented, served with a trio of condiments: butter, jam, and ketchup. The potatoes were delicious. One star off for the cold, rock-hard toast. One surprise on the way out: a "Kitchen Appreciation Fee" of 3% appeared on the itemized receipt, but not on the menu, the website, or any visible signage. Service was attentive throughout.

Bar is hopping and their happy hour can't be beat. Their stew (oyster) is simple, filled with plump, fresh poached oysters and though, again, simple it really hits the spot. Chicken sandwich was great, served as more of a Po Boy, which while not listed as such, fantastic. $24 dollars on happy hour for a dozen fresh shucked oysters and it's your choice, which is crazy, you can get a mix of whatever they've got! Most places will have shooters or you don't get to pick, wow! Fried clams were also a hit, best I've ever had. Large, tender (which is hard), and even the happy hour portion is enough for a main for me. There's even a little pepper in there I think. Most places, they are dry, small and over fried. Steamed mussels, wonderful. Service is also flawless, many folks around helping and making you feel welcome and comfortable. I know nothing about nothing when it comes to running a place like this, but I loved to see that any person is willing to assist with customers and keep the flow and pace going. I've been to many establishments where you can't get someone to save your life, and paid double or triple. I've heard this place could be in danger of closing, I hope not, that would be a serious loss for Portland. Big thank you and shout out to a great human being working the bar that I haven't seen in over 20 years from high school! Keep rocking!

I've had food poisoning before but nothing like this. While I understand it is a risk to consume raw oysters, I am sad that it happened to me here. Also, the shrimp cocktail as others have mentioned is not a true shrimp cocktail - it's baby shrimp. Would have loved to have had that clarification before ordering. Will I return? I don't know. What I endured in the last 24 hours leaves me skeptical about ever eating raw oysters again. Staff were attentive and friendly though. We sat outside and I didn't appreciate the punk music across the way. Kind of took away from the dining vibe.

Craving oysters (when did we become these people?!), we stopped in for lunch, ordered a half dozen (and later, another half dozen), plus the Rockfish and Chips, and the Hot and Crispy Fish Sando. Everything was enjoyable: the sando was reminiscent of an upscale Fish Filet (I mean that in a positive way) with a tiny bit of heat; the Rockfish were fried in a salt-and-pepper-y seasoned batter that paired well; and the oysters, of course, were a particular highlight, as previously mentioned, since a second set was ordered to finish off the meal. The only disappointing thing about the whole meal was a rather uninspired spicy Bloody Mary, which didn't really do much for me, sadly. Service was friendly and attentive, and the covered outdoor dining area was spacious, well-lit, and warm enough to be welcoming and comfortable. There's also a secondary covered and fenced dining patio that is dog-friendly, which is another perk! And lastly, the market and bar inside boasts a heaping helping of fresh fish finery coming in many forms: fresh, frozen, 'frigerated, filleted and fried, either served over the counter, or available to-go. Lots of smoked salmon options as well! Very cool place, and one that my wife in particular has fallen in love with. We'll definitely be returning, likely for dinner next time, to see if the menu is expanded with additional options such as scallops, swordfish, steelhead and other seasonal selections.
