Trio plate combo - Kalua pig, chicken katsu, lechon kawali.
    Suz A.

Wanted to try this place for a very long time, finally got the chance today. I so excited. Order the Trio Plate Combo- Kalua pig, chicken katsu and lechon kawali. Wanted to try a bunch of stuff, also got some poke and for dessert the ling hing pineapple cake. Chicken katsu was fried a bit too long, dried out, made good extra crispy chicken fries that need lots of dipping sauce. They do pork well. Kalua pig needed a touch more salt and a bit more smoke. Nice and moist . Lechon kawali was ono, crispy exterior, moist juicy inside. The sides - rice and mac salad, needs a little work. The rice was too wet, Mac salad had too much mayonnaise. The poke - I'll stick to shoyu poke. This one had too much mayo. The ling hing pineapple cake was heavy, maybe if cake flour was use instead stead of all purpose flour would have made it lighter. I looove ling hing mui but I didn't care for this cake. Family must be working here, a little girl was sitting on as well as walking on the service counter. I'm giving two stars for the two good pork items. I wanted to love this place so much after following them for a couple of years on their journey to get a brick and mortar. I wish them well much aloha.

We drive down from Olympia just because we're craving GWT! As someone born and raised in Hawaii, this is one of few places that hit the spot. We'll make any excuse to come down. The food is always Ono, the portion sizes are huge, and the flavors taste just like home. The staff is always amazing - super friendly. Don't let the long lines scare you, they move pretty fast, and the vibes from the music and decor make the wait easy. Only downside is parking can be a little humbug, but food makes it worth it!

Fabulous poke nachos! Sooooo ono! A little taste of Hawaii in the PNW for real Service is super friendly. Been with these guys since their location in Alberta. The new spot on Cully is a lot more spacious for seating. Parking around the area is street/neighborhood but worth the couple loops to find a spot.

They play the Hawaiian bangers here as you enjoy your food! Playlist on point, staff is nice and helpful. Easy to order at the counter and utensils and napkins on the side near where you pick up the food. The inside smells like oil (don't wear your nice clothes) and floors a little slippery (raining a lot outside or maybe oily??), but overall I enjoyed the vibes. Trio combo: meat Jun, Ono chicken, salmon Katsu. The salmon Katsu was super crunchy on the outside and tender inside. This was so good! Meat Jun was a little string but not too bad. Ono chicken was very tasty and I really enjoyed the sauce on the outside. Comes with two scoops rice and one scoop Mac. The PORTIONS! In love with the portions. When the lid can't close, that's the portion I like. Spicy tuna poke: had really good flavor and enjoyed the sauce and little kick. Fish was a little stringy though. Wish they had chopsticks here too! It doesn't feel right eating plate lunch and poke with a fork for some reason, but that's just me. Overall good portions of food, tasty meats, and good vibes. I'll be back!

Decided to try this place out again, and I think it's our new go-to spot for Hawaiian! We ordered the poke nachos and it was huge! More than enough for two people. Poke was great but the pork was a bit salty. This time we also ordered the ube cloud too, which was not too sweet, but interesting in texture.

Grind Wit Tryz serves some of the most authentic and delicious Hawaiian food I have had in a very long time. Everything we tried was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. The nachos and the fried musubi were absolutely amazing, and that is saying a lot because I do not like spam at all. Somehow they completely won me over. I was so impressed that my husband and I actually started trying to figure out how we could adjust our commute home from work to pass by this place more often just so we can eat here again. If you are looking for truly excellent Hawaiian food that will surprise you in the best way, this spot is a must try. We will absolutely be back.

My boyfriend and I finally got to try Grind Wit Tryz and it did not disappoint! Everything on their menu looked so good and it was hard to decide on a combo, but we ultimately ordered the Ono Chicken and Meat Jun. The portions were HUGE and just the right amount for both of us to share. The Ono Chicken had a sticky glaze that leaned on the sweet side and reminded me of yangnyeom chicken. The meat jun was really good and paired really well with the dipping sauce. Street parking wasn't too bad and fortunately we got to the restaurant before the line got really long. I definitely want to come back to try the garlic shrimp and poke nachos next time!

For me, the food and people are always 5 stars! I do think that parking at this location can be tricky, and my wife said the bathroom left a bit to be desired. That said, the portion sizes are generous, and everything is top notch. We were able to split the combo plate with teriyaki beef and the honey walnut shrimp (a must get for me!), and we both left very full! Overall, I like the vibe and there are lots of seating options, especially in the summer! It was a great spot to warm up after getting our Christmas tree!

the ube thai tea sounded interesting so I tried but it was too milky. not enough thai tea flavor and the ube doesn't add much of anything to the drink. the servings were huge and are def shareable! the ono chicken was deliciously fried and the sauce didn't make it soggy. it gets heavy after a few pieces so I had a lot of leftovers. the mayjah moco was huge as well. the pork was fine, not much flavor and it was loaded a ton with other meats which were all ok too. the food here is too heavy for my boyfriend and I to want to come back but i'm glad we tried this spot!

This family restaurant is very bustling in and outside so they may take some time to fulfill orders. The interior gives a very homey vibe, decorating with home flags, family pictures, and artworks/objects that represent their roots. Cashier is very nice and communicative. The food seems pricy but its generous portion justifies it. We get Spicy Ahi Tuna Poke Nachos & Trio Plate with Ono Chicken, Chicken Dynamite, & Sweet Fried Chili Chicken. I love that they use wonton chips for the nachos instead of tortillas; They are thinner and much crispier. The Ahi Tuna is also super fresh and yummy. However, the unagi sauce on them can get quite salty the more I eat. My partner also enjoys everything on his plate until it gets a little too sweet. It is overall still a good experience and worth a try.

Ordered takeout online right around opening. They are located inside of the building where the sign is. There is a small gate just to the north of the building on the corner to enter into. It was super busy inside, just 30 minutes after they opened and cars were parking and piling in while we were there. It is street parking around the area, in a bit of a rougher area. Service was prompt, quick and helpful. However, our utensils didn't get included with our to-go. We orders the Poke Nachos and the Short Rib Plate. The chips and tuna were ultra fresh and the sauces on top were fantastic. Insane size of portions. However, I wish they would have added chopped veggies for the nachos like English cucumber and avocado. The spare ribs had great flavor but a lot of fat, didn't love the freshness level of the rice nor the Mac salad.

Food was super steamy hot, fresh, perfect. Huge portions, $20 is affordable for the portion size. Mac salad is kinda sweet but tastes good, the ono chicken was perfectly fried! Can't wait to come back and try something else. Service was casual and fairly quick. Can dine in or take to go, cute Halloween decor setup when I went in.

Amazing amazing poke nachos!!! They load it up. I shared with my friends and we still couldn't finish it. I also got the small plate with the salmon katsu! Perfect portion size for me with a ton of meat. They have indoor and outdoor seating and play awesome music. Very much enjoyed my meal here.

Great concept, gracious hospitality but the food and flow still need seasoning…read more We were really excited to try Hapa Barkada, Filipino and Hawaiian fusion is a rare find anywhere, let alone in PDX. Bonus: they're open late (until 1 AM per Yelp). Since Google showed incorrect hours, we called ahead before making the drive across town from Happy Valley. Perks: -Free street parking after 7 PM and on holidays -Open late (a big plus in Portland) -Casual, trendy vibe Ordering was frustrating. The cell signal was terrible due to its half basement floor. The WiFi passcode wasn't posted, we had to leave our table to ask a staff for it, and even then, it didn't work for either of our phones. The intent of a digital-only ordering system clashed hard with the reality. I suggested they keep a few printed menus on hand as backup. Kiaha, the owner, was incredibly attentive and responsive. When she heard about the ordering issue, she came to our table, apologized sincerely, and took our order herself. She even comped a few items, which we truly appreciated. Food: Not quite there yet -The surprise winner was the Volcano Broccoli, flavorful with great texture. Would order again. -Steak Bites were overcooked. We weren't asked how we wanted them cooked. The sauce added a little flavor but didn't save the dish. -Fried Tofu Plate came with mac and cheese, green salad, and white rice. All three were underseasoned and forgettable. The tofu itself was oddly crunchy in a stale kind of way, and the vinegar dipping sauce didn't add much. -Mac and cheese lumpia sounded creative, but it just didn't land, bland and kind of "meh." -The 15-hour pulled pork bao had generous filling, but the pork lacked richness, flavor, and texture issues. The bao was served cold, which didn't help. -Mocktails (we tried both available ones: pineapple, lime, and something else) were okay but not memorable. Super cozy 4x6 feet single stall neutral restroom. The scent diffuser was cranked up way too high for such a tiny room, almost overwhelming. We came specifically for the pork belly, only to learn it's a weekend only item, a bummer, but not a dealbreaker. We're rooting for Hapa Barkada and willing to give it another go, especially to check out the pork belly when it's available. P.Y. Provides toilet seat covers.

The bar and resturant are separate, which isnt a big deal since the place is so small. We went early on a saturday and there were only a few other people there. As we were enjoying our dinner more people started to fill the seats quickly. The online ordering system for the resturant wasent working properly so some items I had seen people post on yelp didn't appear on the online menu to order. The bartender suggested we actually go to the kitchen window and ask, and were glad we did. I wanted to try the poke bombs which weren't showing up on the menu, but sure enough they made them for us and they were good. We started off with that, and shared mochiko chicken, roasted broccoli, tofu with chimichurri and the fries. All were really delicious.

Highly recommend eating it with with the baguette because dipping into the sauce was delicious. Look forward to coming for dinner sometime to try more!

It wasn't too busy, and we had a big party; really appreciated that they gave the celebrants complimentary desserts, which was a nice touch. The pandan rice cake with ube ice cream was a my favorite. We called earlier and they got reservations available to be made. The pho was perfect for the chilly weather. The broth was strong and flavorful, and the chicken was cooked well. My friend got the noodles with crispy chicken and mushrooms, and those were phenomenal. The Vietnamese platter would honestly make a perfect date-night meal. This has great variety and fun to share. The fries and wings were flavorful appetizers and a great way to start the meal. Service was great overall, but a bit hands-off after the food was served. I don't remember anyone checking back in on us. Nothing was wrong with the food, but it would've been nice to have that quick follow-up.
