The food was ok. I was expecting way too much from this place. Our friends from Oregon and the reviews seemed to hype it up. My partner and I got the grilled bbq chicken and the bbq short ribs + marinated beef. Unfortunately, the deep fried chicken was sold out for the day (we came in about 45 minutes until closing so perhaps our fault). I think because of the time we came in- we got kitchen scraps. The short ribs were 90% fat and 10% actual meat. The macaroni salad was incredibly plain, it needed more seasoning - pepper something because it straight up looked it was pasta with slabbed mayo. I will however give a shot out to their poke because I don't eat seafood nor like it and I did give this a try for the fun of it and it was delicious. Again I think because we came in 40-45 minutes before closing closing the service was not great either. I saw the self service bottles of sauce and when I came back I asked the lady for one and she said she had run out when it was pretty clear she was just cleaning up. Fair- you want to get out of there on time. So I asked the lady for hot sauce and she said it was extra and charged me $1.00 per 2.5oz container which is just diabolical in my opinion- I still paid none the less so it's my dusky for contribution to the fiasco. Grind Wit Tryz was the most satisfying lunch after landing at the Portland airport nearby. Our group is visiting Portland for a snowboarding trip from Houston, TX, and Filipino Hawaiian food was exactly what we were craving. Grind Wit Tryz has MASSIVE portions and just dang good food. You really need to come eat here if you're lucky enough to live nearby. This restaurant would do so well in Houston, TX if y'all are considering another location! As a group of 5, we purposely tried to order just about everything to try on the menu. We loved their ono chicken, spicy ahi poke, meat jun, honey calamansi shrimp, teriyaki beef, and ilocos empanadas. 10/10 would come back here again whenever we're back in Portland, enjoy! Wanted to try this place for a very long time, finally got the chance today. I so excited. Order the Trio Plate Combo- Kalua pig, chicken katsu and lechon kawali. Wanted to try a bunch of stuff, also got some poke and for dessert the ling hing pineapple cake. Chicken katsu was fried a bit too long, dried out, made good extra crispy chicken fries that need lots of dipping sauce. They do pork well. Kalua pig needed a touch more salt and a bit more smoke. Nice and moist . Lechon kawali was ono, crispy exterior, moist juicy inside. The sides - rice and mac salad, needs a little work. The rice was too wet, Mac salad had too much mayonnaise. The poke - I'll stick to shoyu poke. This one had too much mayo. The ling hing pineapple cake was heavy, maybe if cake flour was use instead stead of all purpose flour would have made it lighter. I looove ling hing mui but I didn't care for this cake. Family must be working here, a little girl was sitting on as well as walking on the service counter. I'm giving two stars for the two good pork items. I wanted to love this place so much after following them for a couple of years on their journey to get a brick and mortar. We drive down from Olympia just because we're craving GWT! As someone born and raised in Hawaii, this is one of few places that hit the spot. We'll make any excuse to come down. The food is always Ono, the portion sizes are huge, and the flavors taste just like home. The staff is always amazing - super friendly. Don't let the long lines scare you, they move pretty fast, and the vibes from the music and decor make the wait easy. Decided to try this place out again, and I think it's our new go-to spot for Hawaiian! We ordered the poke nachos and it was huge! More than enough for two people. My boyfriend and I finally got to try Grind Wit Tryz and it did not disappoint! Everything on their menu looked so good and it was hard to decide on a combo, but we ultimately ordered the Ono Chicken and Meat Jun. The portions were HUGE and just the right amount for both of us to share. The Ono Chicken had a sticky glaze that leaned on the sweet side and reminded me of yangnyeom chicken. The interior gives a very homey vibe, decorating with home flags, family pictures, and artworks/objects that represent their roots. Cashier is very nice and communicative. I can't say the service was fast or friendly, but it wasn't bad. They just were serving so many people. I don't think I'd go back not a lot of seat seats. We used to love Grind and visited frequently at the old location. We finally made it to the new spot for the second time on 9/6/2025. It was very smokey when we walked in, and the restrooms and tables were visibly dirty. We opted for sitting outside. The Cashier was friendly, and our total without tip was $48 for 2 people. We got one combo plate with walnut shrimp and char siu pork, and one ono chicken plate. The ono chicken was pretty decent, but large pieces compared to smaller ones, and the shrimp were very small. The pork was tender, but lacked flavor. It's a major bummer to experience the downhill path Grind has taken, and given by the reviews on Google and Yelp, my opinions are shared by many others. The parking is kind of difficult, but managed to find some street parking across the road. The resturant is nestled on the on street corner with an. Unassuming storefront. Inside is fun and plenty of seating (there was also a festival booth vibe outside adding to the vibe). It's an order first and find your seat style. The front desk/ordering area, the host was kind and helpful with answering question. Let me first say that the portions are MASSIVE, one order can be split for two people unless you're super hungry. So for the size of the food and the price, you can't beat it. The food The kalbi wasn't too bad! As a Korean I'm pretty picky, but the meat overall was decent. Some cuts were good and tender while others were heavy fat and minimal meat, so it was a hit or miss. However, the meat that was there, was pretty tender and well flavored, a bit on the sweeter side but good! The only gripe I had was I asked for it to be egg and dairy friendly but it was paired with Mac and cheese pasta thing, along with rice with every dish, so that was a little annoying, but we made it work. 3.5/5 The ono chicken was like a Korean fried chicken soy garlic flavor, the sauce was a wet sauce, but was good flavor. The chicken was crispy and tender for the most part. Overall, I'd say like 3/5. Wish there was more dark meat in the chicken, the white meat didn't work as well. 3/5 The ribeye katsu was interesting! I wanted to try it since I love my steak, but it was good! Most of the ribeye cuts were tender and pretty decent, a little dry and slightly overcooked, but good overall. I got the 2 item combo plate with chicken katsu and ono chicken, and the food was bomb. Portions were HUGE. Chicken katsu was a bit dry, but for the amount of food which they give, I'm not complaining. I tried a bit of my friend's spicy ahi poke and that was suuper good, I'd probably opt to get that next time over the katsu. The combo comes with mac salad and rice. Have been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally came with some visitors from out of town. We parked on the surrounding street and walked over but with the colorful sign it was easy to find. They have both indoor booths and tables and outdoor picnic tables seating. It was such a sunny day so we decided to sit outside. There were 4 adults and 1 toddler in my group and we only got 3 things and still had leftovers to take home! We ordered the Ono Chicken Plate, Kalbi Short Ribs plate, and the Spicy Ahi Tuna Nachos. It took a little bit to get the food because they make it fresh as seen by the crispy wonton chips for the nachos and the freshly fried crunch on the ono chicken. The Kalbi short ribs were sweeter than I would have like but still tasty. Everything came out in to go containers and the nachos box barely closed with how much food was in there! Everything was between roughly $16-28 depending on what you get but I think it's totally worth it for the quality and portions. The only thing is that we asked for plates to eat there and share and the plates were covered in grease and we had to wipe them down with napkins. So I ordered a few of their dishes. The Lecho Kawali Plate, the combo plate which consist of the ono chicken and kalua pig with a side of mac. First off unexpectedly the ono chicken was amazing! Super crispy on the outside and tender in the inside with that bit of sweet sauce on top! Definitely hit the spot! The lecho Kwali is a beast of its own. That pork belly with the onions and tomato was top notch. Definitely fill you up. Has that savory with a bit of acid. The kalua pig was more on the "natural" side of flavors. Which I enjoyed. Sometimes people like it doused with crazy sauce and no lie i like that too. But this had it's natural juices running and it was soft! My only regret was that I ordered so much good meat. When my friend and I went, we got two combos: a chicken + galbi combo, and a poke + garlic shrimp combo, as well as inari. Everything was PHENOMENAL.
