"So glad I finally found you -- and so glad I didn't give up."…read more My last surf lesson in Maui was with Chyna, and it completely changed how I understood surfing. A little background about me: a middle-aged first time surfer, a basic swimmer and a big fan of basic snorkeling. Weekly workouts include gym weight lifting, kick boxing, yoga, and Lagree. And, I had a HUGE fear of wipeouts. Chyna and her friend Aina once ran a small water-sports business together, and they also volunteered teaching local kids to surf. They lost so much in the 2023 Lahaina fire, not to even mention that Aina is also a Maui firefighter. Thankfully, their families were safe. Knowing their story made Chyna's generosity, patience, and love for the ocean feel even more special. This was nothing like the two commercial surf lessons I had taken before: no photographer on shore, no rush to simply get me standing for a picture. In 2 hours, Chyna taught me how to respect and learn from the ocean: how to read the shoreline, reef and rocks, whitewater and green waves, wind, entry and exit points; how the board works; how to paddle, turn, control it, get through whitewater, and even use sound to judge an approaching wave. Most importantly, she corrected my popup technique and let ME decide whether to stand when each wave came. Once I stopped rushing and started learning the speed and timing of the wave, I was able to feel the freedom and pure energy from surfing. Even the whitewater that had scared me before stopped feeling intimidating: I didn't get knocked over ONCE! For the first time, I experienced what surfing can feel like when fear is no longer in control and I can actually listen to my body and the ocean. Chyna and Aina, I'm so grateful I found you. See you at the next wave!

My six-year-old son had a private surf lesson with Theo today, and the entire experience exceeded…read moreour expectations. From the initial communication and detailed information provided beforehand to the beautiful location and overall organization, everything was seamless and professional. Theo was an absolutely fantastic instructor. As a parent, I was nervous because my son had never surfed before, but Theo immediately put us at ease. He took the time to explain his approach, including why he wanted to start on smaller waves and ease my son into the experience rather than pushing too hard too fast. That thoughtful approach made all the difference. Theo was incredibly encouraging, motivating, and patient throughout the lesson. He paid close attention to my son's energy level and knew exactly when breaks were needed, which was especially important for a young child. He struck the perfect balance between building confidence and keeping the experience fun and positive. I was also extremely grateful for Theo's communication with us as parents. He kept us informed, answered our questions, and made us feel comfortable every step of the way. Overall, this was an outstanding experience, and I cannot recommend them enough!! If you're visiting and considering surf lessons, do it. In fact, I left wishing I had booked a lesson for myself as well! Thank you, Theo, for making my son's first surfing experience such a memorable and positive one.

I came across Maria's Yelp page since it was a 5 star review, read her reviews and watched her video on her link page. I called her at 6:30am on a Sat (so early .. I know ;p) and got back to me within acouple hours and asked for our height and weight to properly fit our board and paddles to us and a Credit card to hold our RVSP for the next day. Maria sent me a message confirming our appt and directions to where we would meet for our 30 min technique lesson before we headed to the ocean. It was an easy drive from Lahaina to her home in which also has her Massage Studio. She is very welcoming and has a wealth of knowledge in her lesson. She has a bous ball to help you find balance, mimicking the stability of what the board would feel like in the water. Proper stance, form, getting up and down from your board to a sitting position to a standing positions and variation of paddle strokes. Also how to hold your board from the side or balance it on top of your head like the pros do it! And of course how to transport your board from land to sea. We drove down to a near by beach where we strap ourselves into our boards and paddle paddle paddle! During our lesson and paddling out on the ocean Maria was taking our photos at no cost. Capturing the moments that we couldn't do with one another. As we paddle around she is also teaching us how the wind and ocean variation can change, finding our landing mark, and what we should carry as a emergency kit. This experiance was so amazing, we stayed upright the whole time and didn't fall once. We felt really safe with Maria, her lesson is full of information I can take back home and use for my future paddling! I highly recommend her for your lesson!

The female half was a pilot. While talking she recommended to us that we should take a sunset flight over Maui with her old boss at Maui Plane Rides. She said it was truly a life changing experience. Well, that was enough for us, we booked one and embarked on our journey a few days later. We arrived to the small airport and met our pilot, Eric was his name maybe? He was originally from New York and was a very friendly fellow. He did his pre flight checks and we loaded into the plane and away we went. The pilot flew us all over the island and he was a very informative with his knowledge of the island and local history. The flight path he took was truly EPIC! He let my wife fly the plane for about 5 minutes, which was super cool of him. The flight was absolutely a must do if you have the opportunity and the funds. You will never see a sunset quite like the sunset over Maui from a plane. It was the most beautiful sunset ever. And I have seen many sunsets in many locales. The experience was top notch, the pilot was A+++++ and the night was truly incredible as our newly met Colorado friends stated it would be. I cannot recommend Maui Plane Rides enough, the experience was truly like nothing we've ever done before.

While it was raining that day, the pilot only called beforehand to say we'd get wet walking from the car to the plane. He never mentioned that we would miss half of the advertised sights. After the flight, I requested a partial refund because we only received about half of the promised tour. The pilot then claimed he had warned us that weather would prevent us from seeing several locations, which simply isn't true. I understand that weather can affect flights, but customers should be clearly informed when major parts of the advertised experience won't be delivered. Poor communication and misleading expectations made this a frustrating experience.
