This was a lifetime dream and a wonderful experience for all. Our grandkids had Cody, Levi, and Connor as their private instructors and they were phenomenal and even when one of our grandchildren got hurt on the reef and didn't wanna surf anymore, Cody sat with him and just stayed by him and encouraged him and told him he did a great job because he did actually get up three times. Unfortunately I would not recommend this shack purely for equipment rental. The price for a 24-hour rental is over $100 which is an INSANE price. They also gave me a super shabby board with the rims and paint peeling off. I forgot to take a picture but it was so bad some dude out on the beach a good laugh with us because of how bad it looked. The experience starts with Tyler and Kai in the front office, who are super helpful and go the extra mile to make sure the surf lessons are the right fit and get scheduled. I noticed every surf instructor made good eye contact and intro used themselves with a smile. There were new surfers in every age range. My teenage daughter had a group lesson with Marcos...he gave a quick dry-sand run through and they were in the water right away. With Marcos' encouragement, she was standing on her first attempt and up on all the waves she chased, managing to catch about 15 waves in her 90-minute lesson. Marcos was encouraging, patient, kind, and I felt confident she was in competent care way out in the ocean. Thanks to Marcos, a new surf addict has been made! My 13 yo didn't appreciate hearing the instructors cussing while mocking their previous clients in front of the check in area prior to her lesson. Her instructor was pretty good however all the instructors were too busy socializing during the lesson to help their younger clients. Not a good look for your business especially after having a great experience the day before with another surf company. read more

My twin 5 year olds and 3 year old all did private surf lessons and we couldn't have been more blown away by the experience! All 3 kids had the times of their lives, and my twins both had the chance to ride waves on their own after learning how tandem. The staff were incredibly dedicated, passionate about surfing, and so great with our kids. We absolutely will do lessons with them again during our next trip to Maui, we couldn't recommend them more!! We also did a kayak and snorkel tour to explore Black Rock and it was the best day ever, we saw a stunning number of fish and were so grateful for the staff's knowledge and friendliness throughout the trip. We reserved semi-private lessons for my family, me, my 19 year old son, 14 year old son and 13 year old daughter. Juan was awesome! He taught us all relatively quickly and we were in the water. He was great at instruction and encouragement and we were all able to stand at least once. It was an absolute blast and I would absolutely do it again. read more

Amazing! My eight year old daughter was able to surf on her own by the end of her lesson! She's pretty athletic so u don't think it was typical but the instructors were great. We had an incredible experience with our family of five. The staff from check out to the lessons were all friendly and helpful. Connor was so patient with us and made even our most nervous kid comfortable and she was even laughing during the lesson. All 5 of us were able to get up on our boards and we had so much fun! I'm ashamed it's taken me so long to get around to leaving a review, but I wanted to share how WONDERFUL my kayaking trip was!!! The tour was back on Feb. 2nd (during whale season, luckily). My tour guide's name was Hiva- at the time, he was new to this company. I can't say enough good things about him!!! Not only is he super friendly, but he's very knowledgeable (in fact, he majored in Hawaiian Studies), and so much fun to be around and learn from. As a local, I was hesitant about booking a tour in general, but I'm so glad I did!!!! WE SAW A WHALE GIVE BIRTH, and it was one of the most beautiful experiences in my entire life! We were even able to listen to the event, when a nice couple came by after recording the underwater birth with their high tech gear. It was truly an indescribable experience and we were all blessed to have had such a charismatic tour guide as Hiva- after all, the couple came by us because they heard our group having fun and learning so much, and it sparked their interest and led them to share their audio with our group. I'm trying not to write a novel, but I COULD, because it really was the most fascinating experience one could be so lucky to have! *TLDR* Five stars for Hiva for going above and beyond for our group! What an amazing all-around experience. I booked a semi-private paddle boarding lesson through the Westin for my husband & 10 y/o daughter. Randy was their instructor, and did an excellent job covering safety, the fundamentals of paddle & stroke technique, and board control. The Ka'anapali SUP lesson is just two properties down at the Marriott (5-min walk) At 7:30a, the winds are calm & the waves are glassy. The entire experience was exhilarating, and they saw about 8 sea turtles At the end of their lesson, I was really happy to meet Ally, the club's professional photographer. Ally took an entire set of amazing photos with her full-frame Canon lens. These photos are definitely lifetime keepsakes, and at least 2-3 are making their way into this year's family Christmas card :) Thanks to everyone at the Ka'anapali Surf Club for making this such a memorable experience! read more

Me and boyfriend had the best experience! We missed our early appointment and they were able to find us the next available time with ease. We had the best instructors. My sister and I took surf lessons here and I would definitely recommend if you're looking for an easy way to quickly learn the basics of surfing. Group rates are cheaper and can range from 5-7 in a class with an instructor for about 90 minutes. We had a great instructor, named Sebastian. He wasted no time in getting us in the water, but I wish he would have spent a little bit longer with us on land to really teach us how to stand when we got out on the water. For those worried about sunburn, they give you a rash guard to wear while surfing as well as water shoes as the bottom of the ocean can be rocky. We had a ton of fun. It wasn't about being a perfect surfer for us and we thought 90 minutes was plenty of time for a group of five. We probably won't buy any pictures because we spent most of our time paddling and falling, but the photographer was excellent! My only complaint is that we had someone in our group that came for a second group lesson and sort of dominated the instructors time. My recommendation for this club would be to encourage those individuals looking for "extra attention and instruction" to book a private lesson. It was disappointing because this individual absolutely took away from our first time experience as well as others in the group. Overall, would highly recommend! read more

They were so amazing to let me know about twelve hours beforehand that they canceled his lesson which gave me no time to book any other lessons. Thanks surf club, I hope I actually get refunded. My friend and I had a great semi-private surfing lesson with Randy through Ka'anapali Surf Club! He was very helpful and we were both standing on our very first waves! It was $250 for two people, and I would definitely recommend it over a group lesson (4-5 people) because you get time for more waves. All equipment is provided, including the surf board, protective water shoes (so your feet are fine if you land on the reef), and rash guards (athletic shirt) for the duration of the lesson. A professional photographer also takes pictures of you during the lesson that you can buy if you want. Our photos turned out amazing and we ended up buying the package (all photos, emailed or AirDropped) for $30 per person. read more

Our surf lesson was AWESOME - my son left asking to go back "again and again and again!" Our instructors Randy, Connor and Jerry were so patient with our three kids and even had our 5 year old up on the waves. We have done lessons at several places and on several different islands, and this was by far the favorite in terms of instruction, manageable but fun waves, and overall positive experiences. We had a great day. Joe was our guide, and we couldn't have asked for a nicer guy. My 9 year old was nervous but he put her at ease. We've never been able to convince her to get her face in the water with snorkels before, but he made her feel safe. He took time to encourage and coach her. I thoroughly enjoyed myself as did the hubs, though I did run out of steam towards the end. I should have fueled up a little better or brought a small snack. Matt who set us up was also very down to earth and personable. These guys seem to genuinely enjoy people. I'm happy we spent the money to do a little adventure as a family, even if my husband and I had trouble coordinating our paddles. We had a pretty wonky path through the water, but who needs straight lines in water anyhow. Seize the day and grab a paddle, you won't regret it. Aloha read more

After another surf club cancelled my group surfing lesson due to weather, I scheduled a group lesson with Ka'anapali Surf Club. However, they also cancelled due to strong winds, and only 15 minutes before check-in for the lesson. I was already at the rental hut at that point, and it was too late in my vacation to re-book for a future date. They refunded my fee, for which I'm grateful. The two desk workers also seemed to sense my disappointment, so they handed me a board, a rash guard, and pointed out the safe areas of the shoreline. I went out on my own and I caught some waves. I can't speak to their instructors, but the desk staff were very kind. read more
