This is mine and my husband's go to sushi spot! The rolls are so fresh and delicious. The restaurant is owned and run by one man and mannnn is he the sushi boss! Love supporting small businesses especially when you can tell they love what they do, and they're great at it! By far our favorite local sushi spot. 10/10 recommend!!! There is no need to do an in person cashier transaction -- hence, there is no requirement for a tip. When we went at 10pm, there was only one man working hard. He was kind and made the food deliciously with care despite being short staffed. The store ambiance and calm and clean. You get your water and utensils at the front. My family and I came here to have sushi the other night and it was our first time visiting this establishment. They are open until midnight, which is great for late night sushi cravings, but I found it odd when we walked in after 10:00pm, there was no server. There was only one sushi chef working behind the counter and there were a couple of other tables there when we arrived. You have to order your food via QR code and pre-pay for it. They have an assortment of beverages in a cooler and they have all of the utensils up at the front counter. I mean, the place was clean enough, but it just seemed a little eerie, as if we were still in the middle of Covid given the way we had to order. Since there was only one sushi chef, we did have to wait quite a while for our food - over an hour. The food was good, but when I arrived (which was about 25 minutes after I ordered online) they told me they haven't even started making roll. I understand it was pretty late (9-10pm) but it was no where near their closing time (12am). At least they offered water while I waited, but the area looked a little sketchy, which made me not want to stay around too long. There is only one man that works here so it does take some time for the food to be ready, but it's always worth it. We usually order online before going to pick it up. I FINALLY tried this little Japanese place out after having it bookmarked for over a year. I really should have just gone and tried it sooner! The outside of the restaurant is somewhat unassuming, but the inside was clean and has the aesthetic I would expect from a night time sushi place. The staff were also super friendly and welcoming! Their hours are perfect for a night owl like myself. It's so nice having an actual local restaurant after about 9pm to choose from that isn't just fast food!! After looking over the menu for longer than I maybe should have, I ended up picking out the Chicken Bento Box B that comes with teriyaki chicken, a heap of white rice, 4 pieces of California roll, and 3 gyoza. I also ordered the Sexy Mama roll. Yes, this may sound like a lot of food for one person (and it definitely is) but being fat, lonely, and really hungry sure did make it sound appealing. It was enough food for a couple average sized meals, or perfect for two moderately hungry people. I wasn't disappointed in anything I received, and overall felt like it was exactly what I hoped it would be for ~$30. Crispy gyoza, well cooked rice, sweet/ tangy teriyaki chicken that was tender and not too salty, and the California roll was fresh and simple - perfect. The Sexy Mama roll is very yummy for those who enjoy moderately spicy sushi. Definitely not a lingering or overwhelming heat level, but maybe not for those that are particularly sensitive. The scallops in the roll were beautiful and added a silky and fun textural element to the sushi that I haven't experienced before! I'll be looking for that in any other rolls I try out in the future. Although I only got take-out, I feel confident that whether I choose to dine in or get my food to go, I'll be taken care of and won't leave disappointed. I love supporting small local businesses! I've been coming here for years and have always had such consistently delicious food. I normally only get sushi, but this time around, I got a bento box also. I ordered the best selling combination sushi platter and the teriyaki chicken bento box. The chicken teriyaki bento box came with chicken teriyaki, rice and 4 pieces of California roll. The portions were so generous and I could not believe all that food was only 9.99! The chicken teriyaki was delicious and moist. The rice cooked perfectly. Some places cook their rice a little too mushy. The California roll was delicious. I know it's hard to mess up a California roll, although you'd be surprised. The best selling combination sushi platter came with 4 cut rolls - Jessica, king crab, salmon lover and salmon crunch. Such a great combination. It included my favorite salmon lover roll. The salmon lover roll is so refreshing with its thinly sliced lemon pieces on top. All of the food was fresh, pretty good quality and definitely was made to order. The service was fantastic. I love how you order online. I love how they text you the expected pick up time and when your food is ready to be picked up. How efficient is that?!? Service is wonderful. The place is super clean! My household enjoys sushi every once in a blue moon. So when we decide to get sushi - we want good quality and great tasting sushi! My boyfriend and I are new to the Azusa zip code so we found Aloha Sushi on Yelp. We couldn't find the menu in the pictures on Yelp so we decided to call in. The caller was very nice in helping us with our order and suggesting items /accommodating to what we liked. We got the philly roll (without cream cheese), spicy tuna roll, California roll, and rainbow roll. All were great! Since its quarantine - we got our order to go. The place gave us plenty of Wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce to enjoy our order with. Only thing is that we wish the Wasabi was spicier. We added a lot of it and it just wasn't spicy! I never leave reviews but service was awful. Two customers walked in behind us, one couple was already seated. They had us wait almost 40 minutes after submitting an order for 3 rolls. One of the couples that came in asked for a refund and left. The rolls were okay. The self service experience was odd and impersonal. I love hole in the walls. This is my family's go to sushi place. It's not your conventional restaurant with waiters. You get your own water and utensils and you clean up yourself. But I don't mind, the sushi is so good and affordable! They know us and always give the kids edamame. Super friendly and good eats. The place looks simple, only 1 person working when we went. The ordering took us a while because you order on your phone and pay on your phone too (unless it's cash). The person then makes the food and brings the canned drinks to your table. Sauce has to be ordered on the phone too and they charge for it. Aloha was our go to Sushi spot for very high quality rolls at affordable prices and would easily deserve a 4 or 5 star review. Like everywhere else, prices have increased. However, this last visit for takeout, which is only offering with no dine in options, the quality took a notable decline. The rice was much different in taste, texture and density. The ingredients were noticeable more skimpy. Much less fish on top and inside, plus the freshness was not as good. The overall taste of all 4 rolls that we ordered reflected a marked decline. Although the menu and website remains the same, I understand that there may be new owners. If new owners, I hope you can address these issues or inconsistencies. Possibly we may have experienced an off day. Fish supply issue and a subpar sushi roller, but this previously hidden gem was much different this time and we will most likely find an alternative spot. read more

My family and I have been coming to this location for many years now. It's a lengthy drive and because of that we've tried other places, but nothing compares to aloha sushi. My favorite part is the rice, it's not too sticky and you can taste that its fresh and well made. I always feel encouraged to try something new when I come as well, and nothing disappoints. We've been coming even before the Covid era, and every time the service we get is super comforting. You can tell the owners are humble and nice, and their passions emits through their cooking and business. Come on in! Sushi is 30-50% off so that leaves you at an average of $6-$9.99 for each roll. Rolls are a decent size so 3 rolls, maybe 4 if you're extra hungry, are good enough to share between two people! This place goes by a "No service, no tip!" policy, but my bf and I left WANTING TO TIP!! They provided such great service... that's how they got us! There are two separate tip jars, one for the cashier who explains thoroughly the ordering process of you are new, and one for the sole hardworking sushi chef! NOTE: After about 10:45 or 11PM ~, you MUST order to-go according to their posting at the door. Depending on dinner rush, you might have to wait 15+mins for sushi but it was worth it. CON: There's no picture menu, so get ready to read the descriptions of sushi on opposite page. Overall, the ambience was relaxing with nice music from the 90s-2000s and presentation of sushi on the elevated board was appealing. Because of the "no service" policy, you can take as long as you want to order without being afraid of them coming to check on you every few mins, so take your time! Depending on the day I came in today and I got this salmon crunch. I asked for the Sriracha to on all the pieces of and he said he had to save it for the rest of the customers. ****First of all no one pushed sauce anywhere that's how it was given to me, as for nothing personal it is very personal as I'm a customer and willing to pay for sauce if need be because clearly the amount put isn't enough and/or wasn't done correctly. When someone says it's saved for the rest of the customers it's as if the current customer doesn't matter that's the fact to clear up. Clearly the service isn't worth paying the prices charged I rather take my business elsewhere where they actually value all customers not just future ones. I've enjoyed many dinner here. But after yesterday's "customer service" I will no longer be visiting this establishment. read more

I am not the one that comes here, but my partner does. He chooses this place a lot because he eats late, and this place opens REALLY late. (He only takes take-out. It's still pandemic times, after all.) So first perk, it opens as late as 11 pm. (To even midnight, last call is 11:30 pm, it seems like. Call them to make sure, ok?) It's crazy. Second, according to the banner, there is "HAPPY HOUR" every day from 5 pm to 12 am or something like that. No tips during this "HAPPY HOUR". I actually heard that's the practice long ago, for all hours of the day, so I dunno if this is a new gimmick or not. But in any case, it benefits us because we only order during this time frame most of the time anyway. We got one dynamite roll ($12) and one golden CA roll ($6) tonight. The bill came out to be around $20 total. So I wouldn't say they are exactly cheap. It's ok. Acceptable. The dynamite roll is technically two rolls, so on average, it seems like it's about $6 per roll, price per portion wise. They both tasted heavy. A lot of flavors, but a lot of fatty components, like mayonnaise, sauce, deep fried parts, just Asian fusion comfort food. I would say... tasty enough! Not something I'd crave, but my tongue and my stomach both agree with it just enough to not mind coming back. I do feel somewhat bloated and thirsty 2-3 hours after eating these, but these are common symptoms after eating MSG-heavy Asian food. This is not unique to Aloha Sushi, but just expect to drink water and walk off that full tummy feeling after. Overall, it's an option to choose from when nothing else is open. If it's daytime, and I have other restaurants to choose from, I may go for better quality sushi even if it means paying for more. But as I said, as quite Americanized "Japanese" comfort food, this is a-okay. read more
