Fortunately, my husband and I walked in around 9pm and there were plenty of open tables, so we were seated immediately. Service was quick, welcoming, and friendly. Parking lot is shared with a shopping center next door, plentiful of parking. After browsing their HUGE menu, we ordered the Mango Special Roll, Rainbow Battera, and CHIRASHI, all to share. The variation of mango sweetness along with the cream cheese + Outer layer of Salmon is just perfect. My wife and I loved it so much that we're gonna make this at home at some point. 10/10 recommend to order this. The Rainbow Battera is a plate of pressed sushi, 6pc of pressed sushi rolls presented very neatly and is basically a mix of each fish in a roll. Each roll is different so take your pick of roll to eat. A unique take to sushi rolls but highly recommend. Fish contains Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Albacore, Ebi Shrimp, Shiso Leaf, and Bonito. The food here was absolutely delicious--perfectly seasoned and incredibly flavorful! The ambience also deserves a shout-out, as it has a really beautiful, aesthetic Japanese vibe. However, there is definitely room for improvement with the service, which was just okay. The biggest issue, though, was the bugs. We were constantly swatting away flying mosquitoes that kept landing near our food, which really took away from the dining experience. On a Thursday night, around 8:30pm, we thought it would be a good idea to order one roll over the phone and pick it up. How difficult could that be? We placed the phone order for (1) roll and (2) macron ice cream things. (Which are already made and sitting in a freezer) We were told 25 minutes and so we waited about 20 minutes before I walked in to pick up my (1) roll, the only thing that required someone to make it. The front reception area was chaos with large parties waiting to be seated and scattered smaller groups of 3 or 4. I bypassed all that to get to the front and instead of a person is a tablet. All the human workers were scrambling around which told me they were "behind". I asked a worker about my phone order and she told me five minutes and took my payment. 35 minutes later I'm still waiting among the crowd who are also waiting to be seated. Workers are scrambling around like they just got trained that day. Confused looks and panic ruled the evening. Workers continued to jog past me to handing out drinks and trays of items and never checking back in with the small crowd. Confusion over clarity remained the theme as large parties asked why they haven't been seated yet. Small parties asked when they would be seated and I waited for (1) roll. A purely bad experience from start to finish from a place I've enjoyed in the past. The moral of the story is to expect the unexpected. Even though I've had pleasant experiences in the past here, I have to report the details of this visit based on its own merits and not prior visits. I ended up with my roll and it seemed like it was sitting back there somewhere ignored, like the groups waiting to be seated. The only reason I'm mentioning this is because I think it's something that could easily improve an already great experience, but there was a noticeable smell inside the restaurant that seemed like maybe a ventilation issue. If it wasn't for how good the food and service were, this probably would've been a four star experience for me. Came here the other day for lunch and it was my first time trying Mikomi. I've heard about it for a while and was honestly really excited because people always say great things. Overall, I thought the food was okay, not bad, but not amazing either. The chicken teriyaki in my bento box was unfortunately extremely dry and overcooked, which made it hard to enjoy. That was disappointing. On the bright side, the sushi was fresh, which is really what I came for, so I appreciated that. I also think the location is great being at the mall in West Covina which makes it easier for people to spot it especially when at the mall. One thing that was frustrating though, was that my coworkers and I ordered the large sashimi platter, but it never came. When we asked about it, we were told that we never ordered it... which we definitely did. That part felt a little dismissive and awkward. By the time we clarified everything, we were already pretty full from our bento boxes, so we just ended up ordering a medium sashimi instead. Overall, the experience was just okay. I didn't really see the hype this time around, which was a little disappointing since I had high expectations. I also think it's important for restaurants to double-check before telling customers they didn't order something. Would I come back?
