It's nice to have a little place like this in Study Butte for the community; I'd bet if you go a little farther eg into Terlingua there are other spots but this grocery store is like less than 10 mins from the entrance to big bend so it's very convenient if you need to pick something up on the way in or out of the park!

There is a small museum speaking to the history of the mining community, but when you walk in the entire store could be history of Terlingua and the surrounding area. This trade store has gifts for everyone. If you're looking to dress up your Xmas tree they have that. Looking for a hat (sombrero, trucker, cowboy), they got it. If you're looking for wine or hot sauce, they have it. They have a small book store. so the selection is huge and varied. I truly believe you can find any kind of gift in here for all your folks. When we went there it was later, after dinner at the Starlight Theater next door - so, there wasn't a lot of help at this store. I wouldn't say that the prices are entirely bargain, but they are not surprising. Liz picked up some cute earrings and some stickers. It's a nice place to find whatever you might gift to anybody. if you're in the Terlingua Ghost Town, you should stop in.

For the not-so-nice... there is a shared outdoor restroom with a toilet, urinal snd sink attached to the old jail cell. I understand the grocery store has a closing time but the staff should expect a 5-10 minute delay in closing for customers to finish shopping. They can always lock the door and then unlock for a customer to leave. There's an appropriate way to let customers know when it's time to go but not the way the store employee approached me. They signed up for the job so complaining to me is unacceptable and absolute horseshit. The staff should be talked to.

I was…read moreglad we stopped in Marathon because it's got a lot of cool stuff on its "main st" style strip, and while the French Company Grocer isn't fancy, it is surprisingly well-stocked with pretty much anything you could think of wanting to bring with you while you're camping or "glamping" in this beautiful part of Texas! The staff were also super nice and helpful, and we couldn't resist getting some of their homemade cookies that were absolutely delicious. If they have the cherry cookies while you're there, grab one! Heck, grab five and enjoy one while you're strolling down the strip of unique shops, just make sure you finish before you head into the little art gallery and gift shop, which is also a must-see!
