The sausage and chicken was cooked perfect and there was plenty within the fried rice. The side salad was great and the cilantro dressing they made was perfect with it and the arroz chufa. The plantains were also very delicious so I highly recommend. They were so good and cooked perfectly. They weren't too sweet either. Got a 1/4 chicken combo, which comes with 2 sides. got the green beans, and everything else was some kind of really heavy carb. I asked if they could do something that didn't have that may carbs, and they said they had a side salad. Ok, that's cool, I'll do that. The beans were sauteed in a pound of butter, kind of mushy, the salad was about 1/2 cup in a very small boat. IDK, maybe growing up on a farm has still spoiled me years later. The 1/4 chicken was almost 12 bucks, and consisted of a leg and a thigh... I guess that is a quarter chicken. Ok, fine. When I got the plate, it was free range central American size chicken, if you know what I mean. Very small, skinny, not very much meat. It tasted ok, and I ate everything but the beans :( ... I was starving by the end of my 6-minute meal. I should have gotten the half chicken at a minimum, maybe the full, then the price jumps to 16 and 30 bucks respectively. This Alpaca location is in Brier Creek, which makes it very easy for me to get to from North Raleigh. Being in Brier Creek also means ample parking, I parked right out front. I stopped in on a Tuesday to introduce a buddy to Alpaca. Since my family's tastes don't really run in this direction, I usually come either on my own or with a friend when I get the chance. I've been visiting this particular location off and on for years. I ordered my usual: ¼ chicken plate Black beans and rice (with the beans over the rice) Plantains Unsweetened iced tea with lemon Total was $15.18 + tax and tip. As always, the food was excellent and the service was as well. No matter which Alpaca location I've visited, though this one is my regular, the experience has been remarkably consistent. They staff generously which allows for excellent service with people who seem to care, and the food is thoughtfully prepared. I also appreciate that this location has expanded; seating used to be a challenge, and now it's a friendly, lively, and comfortable space. While everything on the plate is good, I'll be honest: what I most look forward to every time is the black beans and rice. Even though I grew up eating them, it's surprisingly hard to find black beans with this much depth and flavor. Alpaca does them exceptionally well, and I really appreciate that. Service was great, and there was not a long wait time to receive my food. The restaurant was colorful and clean, but the meat in the Chaufa rice was scarce. The meat had been chopped to minced pieces of meat. That was a shame, since the Chaufa rice is around $13. The crowd was steady. I had seen a few of these in the Raleigh area on my visit. The night I was staying at the Westin I walked over to this huge outdoor mall and found Aplaca and decided to give it a try. Honestly, roasted chicken sounded great. I had a difficult time understanding what the woman behind the counter was asking me. Thankfully, the young man cutting the chicken could tell me. The chicken is flavorful and moist. The rice is perfect and took me back to Peru. Place is order food at a counter, get a tray, pay for it and sit down. Bust your own tables. I've tried this place a few times and it has always been solid. They have daily specials which provides an opportunity to try different menu items. I've had the chicken tacos ( good but a bit too much liquid inside. It dripped out like water, but the chicken was flavorful.). I've also tried the chicken dish with the rice and sautéed veggies. Again, solid. No fanfare. The plantains were good with nice caramelization. My mom seemed to enjoy her steak dish as well. It's definitely on the better and healthier end of fast food. The most inconsistent Alpaca location - food is usually fine but they run out of chicken pieces late in the day, and the freshness of sides varies. I also have no issue with unisex/family restrooms, but having only two single stall restrooms for a large restaurant is inadequate. Today, late on a Sunday, the whole restaurant was badly in need of a cleaning - numerous tables needing cleared, sauces all over the condiment bar, out of forks, etc. There was ample staff milling about that could have improved things. I met my boyfriend up here for lunch yesterday. This location is much smaller than the one I frequent in Garner. I ordered the 1/4 white chicken with yuca fries and rice and beans. My boyfriend ordered 1/4 white with fries and corn. When I was ordering I felt rushed by the employees working behind the counter. When I sat down to eat, I realized I was given dark meat instead of white. I was bummed but I didn't feel like complaining so I just dealt with it. The rice and beans and yuca fries were excellent. I finally checked out Alpaca today for lunch and I'm very satisfied. They offer large portions and high quality Peruvian plates. I decided on the 1/2 chicken, chicken soup, tostones and a house salad that I never received. The food was very flavorful and fresh, so I will not cry over the missing salad. There was so much food for the money I can save some for dinner. The soup was ok. What I really enjoyed was how moist and flavorful the roasted chicken was. The Arroz Chaufa was good but the fries were thick fries and not very crispy so more potato-y and no spice (salt or otherwise). The place itself was tightly packed with booths on the outer perimeter of the dining area and packed in table/chairs on the interior. The booths are small so 4 people was a snug fit. And it was 4 o'clock in the afternoon and this continued for hours as we sat outside and watched the steady stream of traffic frequent this establishment.
