1st charging stop on our trip to Asheville. Can't go wrong with Peruvian! We are hungry but not starving, just got empanada platter and sweet plantains. The kitchen is cooking right there, smells great but there is smoke in the building. So that wasn't great. There is outside seating. The food was fabulous. The green sauce was so good and spicy! This restaurant is very close to our place, we did try it out through Groupon. We generally get the half portion of pollo a La brasa (rotisserie chicken) which comes with 2 sides and 2 dipping sauces ( a green one pica peru and a yellow mayo) ..For sides we've tried their green beans, tostones, yucca fries and side salad, but I generally get the yucca and side salad. They are a bit stingy on the dipping sauces, they have reduced the size of the container and the last time I asked for extra she said it's available online on Amazon and started showing it on the app too (funny)! But overall it's great food and service I will definitely go back It's perfect for a balanced meal after working out and having no strength to make my own food! read more

Just finished lunch. The most unflavored south American food I've ever had. The empanadas were awful...no flavor...tasted like they were frozen beef patties from the supermarket but worse. I very rarely take the time to write a review for disappointing food, but this was so gross we ended up tossing the majority of it. The empanadas looked and tasted like they were dropped into bad oil straight out of a freezer bag. The chicken sandwich was poorly chopped, dry, unseasoned chicken with a sad thin lettuce leaf and no sauce on a bland bun. The "tamalito" was the size and weight of a large burrito of thick, bland, boiled masa and a very thin line of again wildly underseasoned and poorly cooked filling. The fries didn't even have an ounce of salt, which is the easiest possible thing to get right! Gross, disappointing, and mostly in the trash. read more

This place looks good from the outside, but I was very disappointed. Ordered a quarter chicken and a soda, soda was $3.69. They also added a 3% "food processing" fee. They don't tell you about any of this in advance. Apparently, I also was charged a 20% tip without being told, then left an additional tip on top of that. (I didn't even know it until I read the reviews here.). Very sharp business practices and I would not return for that reason alone. Service was decent, but minimal. They came by once to ask if I needed anything. But the food was very mediocre. Chicken is not nearly as good as alpaca. Beans and salad were tasteless. Do not recommend this place. Oh...Lucky Chicken. I wanted to like you so bad but it just didn't work. I stopped in and assumed that it was like the other rotisserie chicken places, where it's cafeteria style but it was actually a dine in. I walked over to the counter to order and the person taking my order was confused. She asked me to take a seat -- this was when I realized it was a dine in restaurant. I was in a rush too but thought I would give it a try. It took a while to place my order. After placing my order, it took a while to receive my food. There were only 2-3 people before me. I ordered the 1/4 chicken with a side of rice and fries. The chicken was tender but it did not taste like Peruvian rotisserie chicken. It tasted more like what you would buy from Food Lion. Actually, it wasn't as good as Food Lion. The fries left a greasy taste in my mouth and the rice tasted undercooked. Overall, it was worth a try but listen to the reviews. It's pretty accurate. This place is a scam. Paid for lunch for 2 of my workers and i and was automatically charged with 20% tip. Only time i saw the waitress was when she brought our lunch. Had to get up my self and ask for beverage refills.theres was 2 tables with people at the time, not like it was busy. read more

We went on a weeknight and were the only customers. I almost felt bad for ordering because the kitchen was so clean and looked shutdown. It is a family owned business and there are Peruvian flags and menu photos on the walls. They have a large assortment of seafood dishes as well as favorites like the chicken and lomo saltado. The lunch prices look really good on the sign and the dinner prices are a bit higher in the $15 or so range. We ordered the half chicken and because I had a coupon, I could only get the 1/4 chicken. It comes with two sides and we had tostones and yucca. I ordered the lomo saltado and you can get it with beef or chicken. We dined at home and the flavor of the chicken is the yummy smoky flavor and the lomo is a great combination of rice and French fries with beef, vegetables and soy sauce. The location is a bit hidden. I am glad we found it though and thank you for opening the kitchen for our meal. We will be back to try the lunch menu and empanadas. read more

If you want good food in a nondescript setting, this is Lucky Chicken. It's not fancy or presumptuous. Language may be a barrier but if you're willing to explore, there's treasures to be found. Food is similar to Alpaca but there's more options to explore here. The Chinese influence in Peru is apparent in dishes like chaufa (fried rice) & saltados (sautées). There's also cerviche & other seafood dishes which I need to try next time. The half chicken plate is a very generous portion of deliciously seasoned & rotisseried chicken. (Be sure to ask for the spicy green aji sauce for the chicken!). It's served with a side (I chose the yucca fries) & a simple salad of lettuce tomato & onion with a creamy dressing. Hubby had the lomo a lo pobre (beef sautéed with onion, tomatoes & French fries served with white rice & fried eggs). Food was very generous & very good! Wait is a bit longer but this is not a fast food place. This appears to be family run & food is made to order for the most part. read more

It's a small place with plain seating and some decoration on the walls... nothing special. It's set up like many sit down "fast food" places (i.e. Greek Fiesta, Peace China, etc) where the kitchen is viewable from the tables. The server does the basics with taking your order and delivering the food, but not with much enthusiasm. To give credit, however, she did check back to see if things were ok since we were the only ones in the restaurant. The food was good, but nothing special. There's not a lot of choices if you're looking for chicken dishes (4 to be exact, not including the whole chicken option) and the chicken is flavorful, but again, nothing special. We ordered the Chaufa De Pollo (chicken fried rice) and Saltado De Pollo (chicken with onions and tomatoes). Strangely, the latter comes with white rice and fries so you'll get a carb overload for sure. I'd recommend it for the Chaufa De Pollo if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for it. read more

I didn't even check reviews before I came here. I was at RDU staying at a hotel nearby and just happened to walk by this place. I did a mission trip to Peru in 2000 and had a great experience so when I saw Peruvian Chicken I had to stop in. I had nowhere NEAR the experience that others seem to have had when it came to the service. The young lady that was working with the customers was exceptionally polite and kind, to me as well as the other customers that came through while I was waiting. She mentioned that it was only her third day so maybe they hired someone because of the other reviews? Who knows...regardless she was a complete sweetheart the entire time I was there and never stopped moving between cleaning tables, taking orders, etc. I ordered a half chicken with a salad and black beans. I'm afraid they may have over corrected because the beans were incredibly salty...like...really salty. I tend to prefer more than less when it comes to salt but this was the high end of my tolerance level. They were cooked to the right softness though. The chicken was really good. It was well seasoned and incredibly juicy and it came out blitzing hot. Not much else to say about that because that pretty much hits my requirements for chicken! I wish I'd known there was a more spicy sauce. She asked if I wanted yellow sauce and I took some, but I didn't like it. Also, bonus, they have Inca Cola. I walked by and stopped to look at the menu. The waitress came out and saw me and told me I should come in since they had lunch specials. She seemed friendly at that point and I already knew I liked their menu from the Clayton location, so I went in. Apparently after she gets people inside and seated, she dislikes them. I drove to the nearby shopping center to see what options I had and found Lucky Chicken. When I walked in, the lady was counting down the register and going over the receipts for the day. That still had an 30 minutes before closing, but ok. She never looked up at me, but rather just said "take-out or done-in?" I told her it was take out. She handed me a menu and said, "what you getting" Wow, ok. So I ordered the Lucky #4 which was a quarter chicken and two sides. I ordered rice and beans with my chicken. She said it would be ten minutes so I walked the shopping center. 11 mins later I reached the location and it was dark and closed. I was like what the what!!! I was let in and then handed a bag with my order. I drove back to my hotel and when I went to eat, I found undercooked pink/red chicken. The waitress was one of the worst I've ever experienced. She brought us no water. I don't think she spoke much English. I asked her some questions that she was not able to answer. Without much info I went with 1/4 dark with black beans and rice. She brought me a 1/4 white. When I told her my order was wrong she questioned if I had ordered dark or not. Lucky Chicken vs. Alpaca - Lucky Chicken is more of a whole in the wall - whereas Alpaca is well oiled machine. The service at Alpaca is quick and prompt, food is hot full of flavor every time! I saw the sign from I-40 saying Peruvian chicken and I love Peruvian Chicken. So, I ordered the Lucky Chicken which was a Grilled Chicken Breast dish with onions and tomatoes and I got it TO-GO. Man, this was sad dish. The chicken breast was so small and flat looking, I thought it was a joke. I would say that it was about 6 oz at the most. It didnt even taste good. I've eaten once before and the food was okay. The service I can't recall. This time around I was very disappointed. I came in for lunch on Saturday at noon and was greeted by I guess the owners daughter. She was dressed in jeans and a Jersey didn't look presentable. Her son looked upset like he didn't want to be there waiting tables. We ordered a mix ceviche, Peruvian paella, and salchi papas. The ceviche was suppose to come with shrimp, fish, and octopus. I received it only with fish and tons of onions. The owner came up to the table and told us that it's normally served with camote (sweet potatoe), but it was cooking when we ordered and added it the ceviche. I brought it up to her attention that I was missing the shrimp and octopus in my ceviche, she took the ceviche into the kitchen to add it in. She added 4 shrimps and 2 tiny octopus pieces for a $18 dollar plate. The paella was okay. I've had better at Cuban restaurants. While we were eating there was something in the oven with the door open and the smoke invaded the whole place. I couldn't stand the smell I was ready to run out of the place. I barely touched my salchipapas they looked like Vienna sausages fried thrown on some fries. I've had better at other places. Personally won't be coming here again. read more

This is probably one of the worst restaurants in town, the food was definitely the worst I've ever had and the service was very very bad... the lady behind the counter was rude and didn't know what she was doing! The entire service staff is atrocious and quite frankly could care less if their clients are satisfied with both food and service received. I've been to Lima several times and discovered their amazing cuisine! I have yet to find good authentic Peruvian food and I have to say Lucky Chicken was not it. Their food is ok, and definitely not stellar. Service was pretty inattentive, apparently phone videos are more important than attending to customers.... I had the lomo salted, a pretty standard dish, and I was not impressed. Meat was too "well done," fries soggy and way too many onions. On our second dish we ordered no onions, which did not come across. The seafood mix had plenty onions in them... So all and all, my search for good Peruvian food continues!! read more

Came here with my family on a Friday night for dinner. We were the only sit-down customers, but there were a few take-out customers that came by. It was a little deceiving, since the chairs were already stacked on the tables and it looked like they were starting to clean up. But they were open. Our family went family-style and tried a few things on the menu. What I liked: -The chicken. If you don't get anything else here, get the chicken. It's very well-seasoned, charred just enough to get that smoky flavor, and the meat is tender (especially the dark meat - my favorite). It won't disappoint. -The yucca fries. Nice, thick cuts of yucca, with a crispy exterior and a firm, but soft, interior. Better than their regular french fries, in my opinion. -The ceviche. It's pretty solid in terms of flavoring and how it's prepared. It came with some crunchy corn kernels, which I enjoyed as well. -The plantains. I'm not a huge fan of plantains, but they do them well. We ordered a few other things that weren't bad, but I wasn't too excited about (such as the Lomo Saltado - the beef was a little too tough for my liking). I like that it's a family-owned and run place, and the service was excellent - very personable and friendly. The pricing is reasonable, too. It's a smaller place, and the ventilation isn't great, so there was a bit of a smoky haze in the restaurant. But overall, it was a satisfying meal and a good dining experience. read more

Delicious lunch here last weekend. My grandson, recently returned from Peru, had been describing the luscious Lomo Saltado he ate 6 days in a row in Lima and surrounding places. The next day I wandered into The Lucky Chicken and ordered the Lomo Saltado. It was delicious, but way too much for me at lunch so I brought the leftovers home and my grandson had them as a snack before dinner. He pronounced them very good. I would eat here again. Although the food was 5 star, the service was less than stellar. I had to ask 3 times for a glass of water and had to flag down someone to get the check.
