We had been to another lavender farm in the upper Ojai Valley some years ago and I was looking for that info to return. That one has closed, but thankfully, Frog Creek Farm is a wonderful "find" for us. The lavender full blossom season is short, so you need to check on them via social media to find out when they are open. Instagram has current info. It's a delight to pull off the Ojai/Santa Paula Road and mosey on to their property. They have so much to see, including their cutting garden of seasonal flowers, some places to sit at picnic tables in the shade and even swing (i.e., hammock), the gift shop, and the lavender rows - the main event. Larry provides a great introduction at the small stand adjacent to the flowering beds. He describes the location and how to identify the five kinds of lavender they offer for cutting. For 2025 pricing - $16 earns you a generous bunch of fragrant blooms. After orientation, you are off with a basket to collect the stems, and scissors to do your own cutting / harvesting. As promised, the plentiful bees scattered away as we leaned in to cut the stems close to the main host bushes. We wandered among the rows and filled up our gathering basket. Back at the stand, Larry tied our haul into a beautiful bunch. We proceeded to the gift shop to pay for our pickings, and I also found a few other items to purchase, including lavender-infused spray which has many purposes. Christel greeted us as we were wrapping up our visit. She filled us in as we asked questions about how long they'd been there, as well as about some of their products. She's as sweet and charming as the farm is. What a lovely place to visit. We'll be putting it on the to-do list next summer, for sure!

From the personal lavender lesson, to the hands on cutting, shopping the lavender shed to sipping amazing lavender lemonade under the trees, it's such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Christel and Larry are just the nicest people. They make you feel so welcome to be visiting their little slice of heaven. We love this annual tradition.

My only complaint was that the seating for wedding ceremony was only half shaded and half not. Many guest including myself ended up standing up for the ceremony to be on the shaded side. Since it was prompt at 4:30pm, sun wasn't set enough for shade to cast over both sides. Bride and groom opted for Hosted Full Bar service, it was great. There were only 2 bartenders but they were quick. At times there were lines but that also moved quickly. Food was good, buffet style. Wood Fired Prime Angus Tri-Tip was pretty tender and juicy. Tequila Lime Chicken Breast wasn't dry but wasn't the juiciest, overall flavorful.

Everyone can get a big blue bucket and fill it with the sweetest, plumpest blueberries! If the kids don't want to put their blueberries together, the employees just look and guesstimate half/ third etc if a bucket. It is $18 a bucket but that is SO MUCH! 3 of us picked about a half a bucket in 45 minutes so it was about $9. There are about 60 long rows to pick, chairs or benches at the end of each row and restrooms if needed. We have come with 3-15 year olds and always have a really nice time. Before you come make sure their blueberries are in season, wear shoes that can be a bit dirty and bring water bottles. Have fun! They are all so nice and helpful! Open until 4....ish.

The focus was more on the animals, Also, it was only 1 hour (as opposed to 2) and it was educational and interesting for him. On my commute, I went a different route in the hopes that one of the farms in Somis would be open before 9AM, and thankfully, Patty's was. I stopped by and bought a full flat of strawberries for $44. Despite the berries being smaller than the ones from Las Posas Berries, they were equally sweet, and the staff kept stuffing the flat with more berries as I got my card to pay. Super helpful, quick, and delicious!

This is an amazing research museum tucked away on the airport side of Camarillo. You won't just…read moreaccidentally stumble across it, but if you know where you're going it's not hard to find. They occasionally have pubic tours and they're regularly available for researchers. They have one of the most extensive collections of bird eggs in the US (to my knowledge) as well as study skins and taxidermy birds. The rare elephant bird egg has been in the news lately due to one being auctioned for around $65,000. This facility has over a half dozen big beautiful intact eggs. Additionally, they have taxidermy examples of extinct birds such as the passenger pigeon and ivory billed woodpecker. I visited on a public tour day and showed up just as the last tour ended. They kindly allowed me to take a quick walk around and I got to talk to the director as well. Everyone was extremely polite and friendly to me and I very much look forward to returning when I have the time and opportunity to enjoy their displays!

I enjoy seeing what they offer seasonally and making new recipes at home from the seasonal produce i purchased. Sometimes it's a little pricey. That's the only downfall to me. I would buy more of its wasn't as expensive. But they do offer a punch card for frequent shoppers. I always make sure to use my punch card. I also enjoy walking to the side of the game stand and visiting the cute animals. It's a small little quick trip compared to the main farm but I always enjoy it.
