We stopped here one rainy Sunday night to grab some dinner as we drove across NY and MA heading to Boston. I had the Bisteck a la Pouvre: fried steak with french fries, a sweet plantain, rice, and a fried egg. They didn't ask me how I wanted my steak cooked, and it came out brown throughout. It was pretty average steak. The plantain was too starchy and bland for my tastes. The fries were sort of soft, and I prefer thin and crispy. The friend egg was a nice touch. We also tried the Chicha Morada beverage, which was good but super sweet. I want to like this place because they people were sweet and are clearly trying to make a go at the restaurant (it opened recently), but it really isn't anything special. read more

We live in the Berkshires and have tried most restaurants except for Alpamayo. We were extremely disappointed. Their chicken was so overcooked it flaked....my second choice of shrimp was cooked so quickly the garlic was raw...the rice was plentiful but unseasoned and the green beans were undercooked .....overall a mixed review since our friends thought it was ok. Lastly they sent our bill out twice incorrect. read more

I had the Arroz con Mariscos - seafood paella which came with shrimp(2) mussels(2) clams(1) and lots of calamari. The food was excellent particularly the seasoned rice, but seafood was lacking. Too many other restaurants in and around Lee to go back any year soon. read more

Authentic Peruvian cuisine. We had the Causa con pollo (yellow mashed potato with chicken filling) appetizer and it was amazing. I had the Chupe de camarones ( shrimp stew) and it was every bit as good as I remembered it as a child and spiced just right. My grandaughter had the rotisserie chicken and my wife the poor man's steak - both very tasty. For dessert we had the lucuma ice cream - there is no taste like it - but the portion was huge - one serving for two to three people is enough. The Peruvian aji (hot pepper) could be tasted in the dishes but not so strong that it burned your mouth (I am sure you can ask for it to be hotter). The Pisco sour was delicious. We can't wait to go back to try more things off the menu. read more

I just came from dinner with friends and their 2 children, all of us native New Yorkers with plenty of exposure to Peruvian food and all of us loved this place! I had the Ceviche Mixto, which was very good, followed by the Bistec Encebollado which was cooked perfectly to my request. I tried the chicken that a friend had ordered, it was juicy and yet crispy on the outside. The deserts were all good; tres leches cake, flan and ice cream were available and the coffee was excellent. OK so we've never had any Peruvian food before. However after leaving the Norman Rockwell Museum, this was the place we had before. Boy are we glad we did! This place is good, but not great. It seems they make a few things really really well and a few terrible. The good first, The main steak dish "a lo pobre" style was very good! The meat was well seasoned, the plantains were excellent! Loved that dish! The food was all fresh and authentic. I will order that again next time. The ceviche, the one that is slightly spicy, was amazing as well! Now the bad, the Peruvian rotisserie chicken was terrible. Dryyyyy and flavorless. Almost seemed old and microwaved. The Clam Chowder was awful, a failed experiment. The quinoa salad dish also lacked any significant flavor to distinguish it from microwave ready quinoa. read more

This is the 2nd time we've been at Alpamayo...we were there a few years ago for a weekend getaway. The 1st experience was so good that we went back again this time and it didn't disappoint. I love love love their soups-- I think we ordered one of each soup and we all loved each of them. For entrees, we ordered the Lomos Pollo....which was ok.... but let me say the soup made up for it. Loved it!! I had dinner there for the first time last weekend with a friend. From the moment I stepped inside I knew it was going to be good :-) and so it was! The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting. Our waitress was very helpful with the menu .. and attentive during the meal. We started with shrimp ceviche (it was perfect), a large salad with plenty of avacado .. and my friend and I split a whole roasted chicken which was deliciously seasoned and very yummy! Will be returning many times! ~ And one more thing important to this writer -- the lavatory was absolutely spotless and attractive. read more

Service is professional and friendly. The food is quite bland with a few exceptions. The ceviche is delicious and very flavorful. I ordered a chicken and rice entree. The chicken was completely lacking in flavor: small chunks of overcooked and dry chicken hiding in a huge mound of fried rice. It actually seemed more like a dish one would get in a bad Chinese restaurant. My husband was moderately pleased with his fish dish. Not sure I would return here. read more

Worst restaurant i have ever experienced- and coming from Newport, R.I where we pay $50 for a burger; i found it very disrespectful and bulgar of the chef to come out and insinuate that we had put hair in our own food... One dish we might understand although it's unacceptable to find hair wrapped in the pasta... But to find some in the fries and soup also. Very gross!! read more

Never again. Last night was our 3rd time at this restaurant. Our previous experience was always great as the food was delicious and the service impeccable. There must has been some turnover in staffing as neither was acceptable last night. The restaurant was packed when we got there but we were seated immediately. The wait staff seems to be new and the waitress knew little about the items on the menu. I ordered a Pisco sour which smelled like my dog after a walk in the rain. My wife's dinner came out with the appetizers. 3 tables seated 15 minutes after us got their meals long before us and were ready to leave before we were served our main course. None of the staff could be bothered to explain the delay and the waitress all but disappeared. I ordered the Arroz con Camarones which was described as a paella but turned out to be a plate heaped with tomato flavored rice and a few shrimp on top. Very disappointed that a lovely restaurant has turned into this. Never again. read more

Authentic Peruvian food!!! Being married to a Peruvian, I have spent quite a bit of time living in Peru and learning how to prepare traditional dishes. Alpamayo is a jewel in the Berkshires, where we really can't get much in the way of delicious latin restaurant food. The dishes are authentic, well prepared, made fresh...I could go on and on and on about it. I highly recommend it - the prices are reasonable, and the food well worth it. To the folks who only gave it 2 stars - nowhere in Peru will people ask you how you want your steak...they just cook it for you, so that too was authentic after a fashion. Sorry you didn't like it, but maybe you just don't enjoy Peruvian food. read more

My Mother and I stopped here after a day of hiking. My Mom is not an adventurous eater but I convinced her to try it. She had the Bisteck Encebollado. I had the Pescado a lo Macho. We both liked it so much we scraped our plates clean!!! We were stuffed but couldn't pass up desert - Tres Leches Cake. It was divine and we scraped our plates clean once again. I have never been disappointed in customer service until I came in here. We came in and the waitress told us it would be a 20 minute wait, we said that it was fine. We waited outside and then noticed 2 different couples go in and get seated immediately during our 20 minute wait. I went inside to ask if our table had been ready and the waitress said no. One of the couples was seated at a table of 4 and they asked us if we wanted to sit there and they could move to the next table over which seated only 2. We thanked them, the waitress noticed and stated to me "well your table is ready but I cannot serve you for a while," which seemed ridiculously since two couples came in after us and they already had drinks. I understand that it was busy and she was the only waitress, but I noticed that she had an attitude the whole time. After being seated for 20 minutes she came over to us and asked us what we wanted to order. Right after another family of 4 came in and she seated them immediately and took their order right then and there. In the end that family received their order right before us. The waitress did not refill our water, nor did she ask once how we were doing. I don't understand how this place is understaffed which caused the waitress to have an attitude and fail at customer service from the beginning. I will not be going back due to the horrible experience she gave us and I hope this restaurant hires someone who can work well with customers or at least trains her. read more
