Alpha and Omega attempts to upsell on their services, and the services that they do attempt to sell can be found at much more reasonable prices from other providers in the area. They found issues with my chimney, and provided a quote for approximately 20,000 to partially fix them and to install a stove, instead of a full fix. I was able to have an engineer come out and masonry experts actually come and assess and find that it would cost less than that for a full rebuild of the chimney, but that it would not be necessary. The exact services that Alpha and Omega offered were about twice the price than can be found elsewhere: the gas insert, masonry, and chimney liner quotes were all about twice what other companies quoted. read more

I am compelled to tell you of my bad experience with the company's new management. I have only had my gas fireplace serviced by Alpha & Omega. I was amazed at the increased price of a service call. Formerly a house call was $150 but today, the company has "levels" of maintenance. I chose the Level 1 service as I thought my fireplace needed cleaning and it had stopped working. The charge would be $279. The original Alpha & Omega company's name and customer base was purchased by a new company that has retained the name. The hand control which the company sold to me no longer worked, and in order to start the fireplace, I had to flip a switch on a box wired to the inner mechanisms of the fireplace. To get to it more easily, I had to pull it out in front of the fireplace. Now the switch wasn't even working. I told the company I wanted the fireplace to work and for the handset to work once again as well. In addition, part of the Level 1, $279 maintenance visit was to include a chimney inspection of the inside of the chimney. I told the scheduler that I didn't think the chimney needed inspection because it was lined specifically for the fireplace insert. The chimney also has a cap on it to prevent birds from coming in, so the chimney inspection was once again, is unnecessary. Even so, the technician said he used a drone to inspect the OUTSIDE of the chimney and it looked OK. That is not what I was told I was paying the overpriced Level 1 charge for, in my estimation. The charge and service rendered proved again that the charge of $279 was inflated. I felt the service was "padded" with the requirement. By the end of the service call, Dave, a very nice, polite and courteous technician and his "helper" Butch, had done a reasonably good job but had not met my objectives. The fireplace worked. Dave found the problem. It was a broken wire, likely broken because I had to pull the on/off box out in front of the fireplace. He fixed the broken wire. The fireplace ignited, and once we had replaced the batteries in the remote control, and it was reprogrammed to connect with the on/off box, the remote control worked. The problem was that the remote control had to be held about an inch or two from the box to work. The remote control certainly could not be used remotely. Since very little chimney inspection had occurred, and since I bought the failing remote control from Alpha Omega, I hoped Alpha Omega would honor some sort of warranty or at least give me a discount on a new one. The technician told me he'd check but he was not authorized to do that. He also told me the original remote control I'd bought from Alpha Omega for $150 (at the time a price I thought was high) WAS NOT EVEN THE CORRECT REMOTE for my kind of fireplace. Whose fault was that?, I countered. I trusted the former technician from Alpha Omega to help me make the right decision on a remote control when I agreed to get one. The new remote control would cost me a mere $495 MORE. I was outraged at the price and said the company was gauging a long-time customer. I told him I thought it an unfair price and I believed I deserved a discount. At cost would be nice since the company's predecessor recommended THE WRONG REMOTE CONTROL. Two managers on duty, not the boss who could offer discounts over $50, offered a $50 discount. A pittance. To add insult to injury, I was told the COST of the new remote control was $150 to the company. The rest of the $495 price tag was for THE SERVICE CALL. That would be another $250 over the original $297 service call. A total of $495 for the INSTALLED NEW REMOTE. Exorbitant! And by the way, even though the technician offered to stop back after his last call and on his way back to his home base in Williamston, I would probably have an ADDITIONAL $50 tacked on for the return visit. The $50 discount both acting managers offered to me would be eaten up with a $50 cost of the return call today. I offered to pay the COST of the new remote control device which was $150 and $50 for the return visit. Basically an additional $200. Fair in my book. NOPE. The acting manager told me that he would have to decline that offer and that if I felt I needed to give their company a bad rating, I should go ahead and do that. He would not be asking his boss for more. So here it is. You can decide if YOU want to be an Alpha & Omega customer. They don't want to keep me as their customer, apparently. So be it. If Alpha & Omega honor my offer to pay $200 for the purchase and activation of a new remote control that costs them $150, I will gladly take this negative review down. Totally unresponsive to me. I first contacted them via their web page, providing my contact information and need for a chimney inspection and diagnosis of our problems and the fixes required. Then I received a note back from "Stephanie", who said that FIRST they needed my service location information (which I'd already provided by filling in all that on their web form...). And she said to send pics of our chimney and the fireplaces, wood stove, etc. So I took those photos of all that and sent them off, hoping to hear back about scheduling a chimney inspection. I asked Stephanie to confirm that the pics were received in good order. No response to that. Thus I wrote again. And it's been crickets since. Anyway, no worries, as I went to Dr. Flue of Tecumseh, as I received an immediate callback and quickly got an inspection scheduled, and talked to a friendly, knowledgeable individual! read more

This is how it should work. I was given a $199 quote for a basic chimney cleaning and inspection. Serviceman was on time, super friendly and professional. He completed the work in a timely fashion, did not attempt to upsell, and was honest about the good condition of our chimney and cap. In the end, he charged me $199, we shook hands, and he was on his way. Aside from the pristine fireplace he left behind, you'd never know he was here. I was very disappointed with our experience. We had a water leak in our chimney/gas fireplace every time it rained. We called and received an estimate of $575 to repair it and tune up the fireplace. They came to perform the service and were here for about 20 minutes... ran some silicone around our chimney and vents, rearranged the embers which were displaced by water, and spray painted the interior which had rusted (nothing we couldn't have done on our own). Two days later it rained and the leak was still there... we called to have them come back out and were told it would be another $90 to repair. When we called back to ask about the cost and voice our concerns (very politely) we were told we would get a call back... which has still not come after 3 months. Now we are stuck with a water leak and have to contact a new company to start the process over. I felt the expensive cost of the original visit should have more than covered the initial issue. At the very least I would've expected a call back after voicing my concerns regarding the price. read more

Did a great job cleaning my chimneys (we have two fireplaces). They were on time and cleaned up the workspace well. I'm only giving 3 stars because they broke my fireplace grate. There was no offer to repair it, replace it, or deduct a portion of the replacement cost from my bill. read more

We scheduled an appointment for this company to come out to our home because we were smelling gas out of the fire place and also couldn't get the fireplace to turn on (thankfully we couldn't turn it on). I am pregnant and we have 2 toddlers at home so the smell of gas was concerning. The technician came out, did some quick inspection, said he didn't find a leak, did a minor cleaning and said we needed new parts to get the fireplace started. Charged $300 for less then an hour and accomplished absolutely nothing. We then Called DTE to come out. What do you know, there was a gas leak coming from the fireplace. DTE turned the gas off to the fireplace and said thankfully we didn't get that fireplace to turn on. My husband called the office the following day and explained that the technician completely blew off the gas leak and only wanted to sell us on parts to fix the fireplace. My husband asked for a refund for the ridiculous service they provided, the manager offered $20 back. Well, this company will not be back to our home and we already cancelled service with them for rental homes we needed service on. Most importantly our family is safe and thankfully the technician couldn't get the fireplace on since he completely blew off the gas leak. Keep your family safe don't use this company read more

They are as good as it gets! Not only did they do an excellent job rehabbing our 40 year old chimney, they also went above and beyond the call. We had a 'critter problem' (squirrel in the attic) caused by the swiss cheese chimney (before the rehab). Steve came out on his own time on a Saturday to install a live trap, and returned daily to check on it. You can't ask for anything more. read more

The two folks with Alpha Omega came out to conduct a level 2 chimney cleaning and inspection. Both were respectful of my home (use of protective blankets, removal of shoes, etc.) and were efficient with their time on site. As a new owner to the home, I was pleased with the camera equipment portion of the inspection, as it provided mostly peace of mind that I know what the condition of my chimney is, opposed to not knowing and hoping it was in good condition. Horrible company to work with, especially the owner Dustin. His cost to install a new stove and liner was double everyone in the area. When I approached him about the cost and a breakdown he stated they don't work that way. They only good thing they did was introduced me to Heat N Sweep which sold me a nicer unit for less money and even took the time to show me the breakdown of all the cost involved.
