They built a major retaining wall for me and finished just in time before the last "Atmospheric River" which caused many of my neighbors' hillsides to collapse. We recently hired Alpha Structural to manage our EBB retrofit work and was pleased to have passed the city inspection. Special thanks goes to Jared, Juan, and Abraham who conducted the excellent work under the house. The crew was great and respectful; they were neat and completed the work in just one day. Special thanks also goes to Brian (supervisor) and to Steve (assessor) for guiding us through the process and for their expert advice. I would give the crew five stars, but the office staff only 3 stars. They were uncommunicative and mistake-prone that luckily did not affect my EBB status: the wrong plan was submitted, a wrong box was checked in our dashboard, and duplicate photos submitted. These unforced errors seemed to delay the EBB approval process. I was very hands-on, checking my EBB dashboard regularly and emailed the office contact multiple times - sometimes repeated follow-ups on the same email that were not responded to. I even cc'd VP Max Oliva at the end which wasn't fruitful. Even now - one week past inspection - none of the post-retrofit tasks have been updated to the dashboard. Alpha Structural was the most expensive of the 4 companies that submitted estimates for the work, but hopefully the quality work beneath the house ensures the house will last another 100 years. read more

Two Words......DON'T BOTHER!!! This company is one of the worst I have dealt with in a long time. I called them to have someone look at the foundation of my rental property. It was ok for tenants to be there only and this was confirmed prior. When the rep arrived, he proceeded to call me and ask who was going to be there. I told him that his own company ok'ed tenants just being there. After that, he then asks me why he is there!! Why dont you ask the company that sent you. I uploaded to them about 20 pictures beforehand. After explaining again what issues I was having, he then tries to tell me what is needed to fix the problem. How can you assess the problem without having looked at the home and why are you telling me the fix over the phone? I told him I needed a written estimate. According to tenants, he probably spent about 5-10 minutes there and left. 1-2-3 weeks pass by and no one contacted me. I called and texted the company about 4 times asking for the estimate. After they speak to their appraiser, someone will get back to you they said...Well that was 2 months ago. Needless to say i did not contact them and will not be using them. Waste of my time and patience...I run a business as well and would not have any customers if I pulled the same thing. My house burned in the Palisades Fire (but is still standing), and a structural engineer noticed a crack in what could be the foundation. He put it in his report and I wanted to follow-up with an expert, so I contacted Alpha Structural. Brad Nestler from Alpha Structural came to look at it the crack, and within minutes told me what type of crack this was (thankfully, not structural), and why it happened. Alpha Structural SAVED ME so much $$$$$$ !!!!!! I may have tried to repair this crack based upon the first engineer, and it would have been completely unnecessary and a waste of money. So there's this wall: a retaining wall. For a long as we've lived here, water pools up at the base. One cannot help thinking that this wall, holding back a whole lot of earth, might one day give way. After living with this nagging, low-level anxiety for more than two decades, we resolved to take action and contacted Alpha Structural. We scheduled an appointment at a time of mutual convenience. A couple of helpful reminders followed, and, right on time, Aaron appeared. I left Aaron to inspect the wall and make a structural engineering assessment. Moments later, there was a tap at my window, and I rejoined Aaron at the wall. Aaron had good news: the wall was in good condition and, notwithstanding minor cosmetic flaws, required no repairs. He went on to suggest a simple landscaping step we could take to mitigate the seepage. I especially appreciated that there was no effort to upsell us on other products or services. We contacted Alpha Structural after noticing some significant cracking and buckling on one of our exterior walls. After inspecting under the house, Senior Assessor Brad Nestler told us that the foundation was rotating out from under the wall due to tree roots and ground movement, even though the trees had already been removed by us, because of their close proximity to the house. This movement resulted in a gap between the foundation and wall, meaning that there was no load bearing on this side of the house. The house had sheared resulting in popped roof tiles, sloping floors and misaligned doors in their frames. Brad fully explained the procedures required to fix everything and we soon contracted with Alpha Structural to do the work. This contract included a detailed breakdown of cost and schedule. Alpha also organized all the city permits and approvals. Site manager Alfie Andino and his crew Aroldo and Jaun did the actual work. They were professional, friendly, tidy and kept to schedule. They also worked with minimal disruption to my family. Every city inspection was passed, without any issues, and all the work was finished on time, and all debris was removed by them. Alfie gave me recommendations for stucco workers (that was not part of Alpha's work load), and that too was finished professionally in a timely manner. If there had been an earthquake, I believe our house was at serious risk of collapse. The Alpha Structural team saved out house, and I can't recommend them enough. read more

I had multiple cracks, some small and some large, all throughout my home to both the inside plaster on the walls and ceilings, and the stucco outside. Literally every room in my house except a small bathroom and laundry room had damage, and the stucco cracks were on all sides of the house. Over a period of a few months I had multiple contractors, foundation companies, drainage companies, etc. inspect my home, and they all said it is well constructed, there was no apparent cause for these issues, and none of them could determine what was causing this to happen. Two of these people did, however, recommend contacting a structural engineering company. A realtor friend of my suggested Alpha Structural. I scheduled an appointment and Aaron from Alpha Structural inspected my house and knew what the problem was right away. In my layman's explanation/understanding of the issue, in the 1930's when the house was built, foundations weren't always poured deep enough (about 1 foot vs. about 3 feet which is current standards). Over time, this caused one corner of the house, the heaviest corner that has a concrete porch, to sink, which caused cracks in the foundation, which caused all of the visible cracks I was seeing. I contracted with Alpha to do the work, which consisted of pouring multiple concrete pads tied into my existing foundation - three of which had to be dug from within the 3 foot crawl space under the house. Chris the job supervisor explained what was going to happen over the 4-5 days the work was to be completed. Abel, the job foreman, and his team did a great job and everything went as planned. The city inspected their work and it indeed passed - I talked to the inspector myself. Abel and team completely cleaned up the areas they worked on when they were finished. Apart from the landscaping that had to be removed to do the work, you'd never even know anything was done after they left. They were very professional throughout the entire process. Probably like many other people, this isn't something I have any experience or expertise in, and having this kind of damage to your home is unsettling at best. I have to rely on companies like this to give a straight and honest answer and complete the work properly. So far, everything seems to be solid and in good shape. I would, and have, recommend Alpha Structural to others. read more

Dealing with foundation repair or replacement is not something to take lightly as it is very costly and requires true expertise to pull it off right the first time. Thankfully Alpha Structural exists to help homeowners with any foundation issues. We had Benny Valenzuela assess our property and he determined that it needed a majority of the stem walls replaced as it was crumbling and literally on its last legs. The key part on why I chose to work with Alpha is the fact that they're a class A and B contractor, with A being licensed to engineer plans in house and B being allowed to build. You don't find that often and it makes the project go a lot smoother since they can coordinate better with the city. They always pull permits with any project that they perform which is a great thing as it demonstrates their honesty in their work to be done right(some contractors won't do this, beware)and it benefits the homeowner should they sell in the future. Originally, our project was scheduled to take three weeks, but it was only done in two weeks! Talk about moving fast and doing great work. Shoutout to Guillermo Manzo and crew for the work done and passing final inspection with a breeze. The quality of the work was very impressive as we did not notice any cracking or damaged pipes when they shored up the house. Really professional. I pray that you don't ever have to deal with a bad foundation cause it is not fun, but if you have to, only give Alpha a call and don't think twice. I hired Alpha to do a foundation repair and the structural framing for an extension/some changes to doors/windows. Note that the house is on the hillside and required some extensive work. In addition to that there was no way to get machinery in to the area and all had to be done by hand. So the work came out to be pretty expensive when it was all said and done, but I definitely got what I paid for. The work has been great and extremely fast. The customer service has been great and they have worked with me throughout the process. Shout out to, Augustine/Cruz/Armando/Gustavo, the crew that is working at the house. They all have been extremely professional quick and kind! Before they began work they helped me to save a baby bird which was a great sign from the beginning. In a similar vein all my neighbors have been complimenting them on how nice, caring and professional they are. I live on a small street that has a lot of problems with parking and they have been kind to the neighbors and help them move trash cans to park and make small talk with them, which keeps the neighbors happy. All this while doing some incredible work at an incredibly fast rate. Ultimately, they were more expensive than the other quote I got but I am sure glad I went with Alpha. The work has been fantastic, the speed is mind numbingly fast, their communication has been great, they worked with me throughout the entire permit process which I appreciated all while keeping the neighbors happy. At the end of the day, it's like they say you can only choose two: fast, cheap, or good quality. Alpha is fast and good quality but so far it has been completely worth it. The work is still in progress but the foundation work has been done and about 75% of the framing is done. If there is any changes in the quality of service I will update this post but as of now it doesn't seem like I will have any problems. read more
