I've been in the design and building industry for well over 25 years. This company was recommended by my realtor so it didn't have the same vetting process I normally do with subs. One thing I don't like is working with subs that are non-responsive and have no regard for your time. Work in the house I am doing was stalled several weeks because of this. Cancelled the contract 2x. The first time, I gave them a chance... They will say the delay is beyond their control because of permitting. Understood because I know how permitting works. But jeesh... update your clients. Don't wait several days and have me email and call you for me to get some updates! Should've went with another company the first time I cancelled your contract... We needed to retrofit a 100 year old craftsman in Long Beach that was on a cripple wall and not bolted and the concrete piers had degraded and shifted over the years. YC also performed our pre-purchase inspection and his thoroughness and interaction made this a no-brainer for us. We hired them as soon as we bought the house. Lisa in the backoffice is a star - she helped keep us informed proactively of the timeline and status with permits. And the gent who did the work, I forget his name now, was smiling the entire time, alerted us to some other issues with plumbing (even tho we had heard these from YC and our inspector) which I found very cool, because it's not like he needed to. I used YC Builders to do a Foundation Earthquake retrofit in late 2022/early 2023 and I must say working with them was a easy process. We all know how projects can go.....miscommunication, going over budget, poor workmanship, etc. However, working with YC Builders was the exact opposite of that. From the start, meeting with the owner (YC) to walk the property and quote the work was an easy process and YC was a super nice guy. Once I got the quote, he handed me off to his office staff to schedule the work, coordinate with the city for permitting, and work thru the EBB process. My contact was Lisa, and although I never met her, I feel like we've worked together foe years, due to the fact that she was a) super friendly, b) extremely communicative, and c) very knowledgeable. Received a grant from the Earthquake Brace and Bolt fir my mothers property. Contacted 3 builders from the program's contractor database. Choice YC builders because they had the lowest bid and the standards snd requirements fir approval by the city were pretty clear so going with the lowest bid didn't seem risky. I was wrong, 1st red flag was the bid proposal price increased once YC builders learned of the grant amount. Next red flag was YC builders wasn't able to obtain a city building permit. YC builders "claimed" to have submitted multiple plans that were rejected and then proceeded to require an additional fee that was not included in the contract signed for an engineer. YC builders could never produce a receipt for the building permit and when I called the city they had no record of an application from YC builders. After multiple emails promising to take care of the issue and without permission placing the advertisement on my mother's property, which was immediately removed the 3rd and final red flag was YC builders cancelled my mothers contract without an explanation or a call, causing my mother to lose the grant because the deadlines for choosing a contractor had past. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY in my opinion, they wasted our time and wasted awarded grant money from the program that never was allocated. read more

Its focus is installing, rebuilding and retrofitting the foundation of houses to mitigate earthquake threats. I recently purchased a 1922 house in central Los Angeles, and the general inspection report warned of a foundation that had never been upgraded and could never pass a city inspection. My real estate agent recommended YC Builders after the "general inspector" signaled the foundation problems and told us to bring in a specialist to have a look.. And I am delighted he did. YC Builders did an inspection during escrow which identified the issues and offered practical solutions. The report was compelling and enabled us to get credits from the seller. They also offered to reduce the price of the repair work by the cost of the inspection report, allowing us to save more. It was clear we would turn to YC Builders to do the foundation retrofitting. First, YC Builders secured an express permit for the work in a couple of days before they started. Second, they came as arranged, worked long hours every day in tight spaces, used first class materials, and informed me of their progress every step along the way.
