This company only gets one star because I couldn't do zero. I called Alphagraphics on a Friday morning and spoke to a Chris Kelsey. I asked about turn around time for offset printing 1000-2000 12-page catalogs. He told me they would need a couple of days and that before the job could be started I would need a quote. I sent him a request for quote with all of the details seconds after ending the call. The following Tuesday morning I finally received an e-mail quote from Chris. Then I brought my completed PDF's in later that day. I was surprised that the quote was triple the cost of their competition, and that he had added tax to the quote despite my inclusion of our resale certificate with the original e-mail. When I brought my PDF's in I asked about the pricing and a different person, Aaron, said that Chris had quoted for digital printing. I guess Chris didn't listen during the phone call, or read the e-mail before providing a quote because both were requests for offset printing. Then Aaron told me that digital printing was better anyway because they would do a physical proof of the exact booklet. Aaron told me that I would need to talk to Chris about all of this and that the person who provides the quote is who you work with for the whole job. Aaron said he would let Chris know everything we talked about. I left my PDF's and called Chris in the morning. Chris had no idea who I was, or where my PDF's were. We got straightened out and he said he would have a proof ready shortly. The next day, now Thursday, I receive an e-mail with a PDF proof that I am instructed to approve ASAP. I ask about the physical proof Aaron promised and Chris says we don't have time for that, because of my deadline. That he could only do flat sheets, maybe. Later that day Chris calls so I can come in and approve flat sheets. I do. My catalogs are ready to pick up on Friday afternoon. The box is sealed. There is another woman there complaining about the business cards they've made for her. The ink is literally rubbing off from the gentle friction of the cards being together in the same box. They tell her they will have a hard time fixing it because of her deadline. I take a look at the catalogs over the weekend. All of the thinner inside pages have doubled text in a gradient improving from left to right. The text at the left side of the page had a double of about 1/16th of an inch and there's no issue on the right side of the page. This problem was not on the digital PDF proof I approved. After 15 years of hiring print shops I can see that this is likely a paper feed issue. I took the catalogs back to Alphagraphics and asked about the issue. Chris found the person who worked on the print part of the job. She asks what dpi, I say 500. She says this is a Photoshop PDF issue and that without having made the entire document herself she has no way to say that this wasn't this way in the PDF file. This was not on the PDF proof Alphagraphics provided. I asked her to explain how Photoshop would make a gradient of bad quality from left to right. She said she didn't know because she hadn't made the file and it was obviously a mistake in the file. She said that we hadn't hired Alphagraphics to do the graphic design for this project so they couldn't guarantee the print quality, that it could only have been a problem with the original file. I ask her again to carefully explain how Photoshop could make a file which results in a gradient of bad quality from left to right. She says again that it is possible, and that the only way to ensure it doesn't happen is to have Alphagraphics make the files. I said "I think you are full of shit." Chris said "We're not going to fix any of our mistakes if you're going to have that attitude." And I said "That's not a problem because I know exactly how to complain." Chris then clenched his jaw, turned red, leaned across the counter, stared into my eyes and said "I have some suggestions for what could happen to you if you do." I left. Bad service, lies, insane prices, horrible print quality, and then a threat to keep you from complaining. Maybe Chris eventually realized it wasn't okay to threaten clients, or someone in the office saw it happen and intervened, because later I received an e-mail from Chris that said: "I'm sorry that you are unhappy with your guides. I am still trying to figure out what happened and if we did anything wrong, we will re-print them at no cost to you. I'll get back to you by tomorrow. In the meantime; perhaps so could send us the native files." Too little, too late, please do not threaten clients and then expect them to cooperate with you. I wouldn't go back to Alphagraphics if someone paid me to. You don't have to guess how bad the print quality was because I've added an image to show you. read more

Stay away from this company with a 100 foot pole. They have a totally unprofessional staff. They don't seem to understand the basics of print or prepress and it unfortunately shows within the first few minutes of discussion with them about your project. Also a word of warning. Don't send them a file for a quote. They will bill you for a proof, even if you decline their services because of the poor quality. In our case the "proof" was a run of the mill office quality laser print. If you want real professional printing seek another provider. It's a shame as Capitol Hill could use a good local neighborhood printer however CK graphics simply isn't up to the job. Our business has moved on. Totally unsatisfactory. read more

We have used Minuteman Press for the last decade for printing our business cards. Our company recently revised our business cards and Minuteman Press was unable to fulfil our request as they were unable to print more than two colors. I had a very short window to get some memory boards and programs printed for a funeral. I looked into FedEx Office, but the quality of the graphics were just terrible. And quality is important when the programs were colorful Photoshop files, and the memory boards were 22" x 28" photo collages. On a hunch, I called Alphgraphics. Becky Brown handled my request. It was Wednesday afternoon, and I needed 150 programs and three memory boards printed by Friday evening for the funeral on Saturday morning. Becky wasn't sure they would be able to do it, but she got the process started and had me send over the files anyway. (And, unlike all the do-it-yourself shops, they accepted my HUGE Photoshop files on their website so I knew the files weren't being compressed down to nothing.) Somehow, Becky managed to convince her production team to handle my last-minute order. At exactly 6:00 on Friday (Alphagraphics closes at 6), I picked up my programs and posters, and they are absolutely flawless. Thank you to Becky and crew for doing such an amazing job on such short notice, and for making this part of my process as easy and smooth as it could be. I have another event coming up for which I'll need more things printed, and I will not hesitate to use Alphagraphics again. read more

After a 20 year relationship with Alphagraphics I am very sorry to say I have had to cut off all ties with them. The management that is running the company today is not the customer service oriented management that was running it years ago. I have used them continually, throughout all their problems, but now it's just a waste of money even trying to work either them. They have no idea how to treat customers, and they can barely print items any longer without mistakes. They should be ashamed of themselves. There are so many other great printers out there, I am now looking to secure one for another 20 year relationship. It's so sad to watch a great company go down. read more

I wanted to give CK Graphics 5 stars so badly! I came in one day and spoke with a really kind woman. She was super helpful, super friendly, and super generous. I dropped off some files I needed printed and she encouraged me to take a free copy of their calendar home. It's a really great calendar so I was happy to do that. We agreed that I'd come back the following day to pick up the prints and everything seemed perfect. The following day the phone call I was promised had not come. I had some plans with friends and had to bail because I was sitting around waiting for word that the prints were ready. Still nothing. I decide to take the initiative and be the annoying customer who calls first. Instead of hearing, "they're almost done" or even "they're done," I get a, "Oh.. um.. lemme see. Yeah... they're not done. We also misquoted you. It's gonna cost about 2x more and they won't be finished until tomorrow." As this project was a work project, I just had to roll with the punches. I had a deadline to meet. Fortunately I planned this out with plenty of time but having to wait an extra day really added some unnecessary stress. I fly in the next morning to finally get these darn prints and for some reason they never did charge me that double price... so that was good... BUT they did forget to print about half a dozen of the prints I needed! It was too late to have the issue resolved so I'll just dock some stars for it instead. Not the best service, not the worst... just make sure you babysit your order and double check that it was done right before you walk out the door. read more

We have had some good experiences with them in the past, but after our last interaction I have no choice but to leave this review. All we wanted was for the colors to be correct in our print. When the proof arrived and didn't match we were blamed for the difference and were repeatedly told that if we wanted them to adjust the colors it would be $105/hr plus additional fees. We didn't want the colors adjusted, we just wanted them to match the file we sent and the digital proof that they sent us, which we are viewing on calibrated monitors. However, they couldn't understand that and continued to make a variety of excuses that were our fault and always resulted in costing us more money, my favorite being they needed to print white on an already white canvas to get the colors right and charge us for that too. I am fairly adept at color management and know that this could only be the case when you are not willing to take the time to appropriately profile your media. You don't need to print white on white to get accurate colors, but if you do you shouldn't charge your customer for it. However, the real kicker and reason for one star is that they sent us a survey request after the job in order to gain some feedback. I assumed as most everyone does in this situation that it was a confidential survey. Boy was I wrong. I received an email from the CEO of alpha graphics this morning with the account rep I was working with cc'd stating how they wished us luck in the future working with other print shops. When I explained how my intent wasn't to stop working with them and that I thought I was just providing honest confidential feedback to help them improve I received a one line response, again from the CEO, stating they didn't want to work with us anymore. No apology for breaking an understood confidentiality or anything to that nature. So if you look to work with this print shop in the future don't expect to get your colors right or for them to accept responsibility for anything and know that this culture goes all the way to the top. read more

I wish I could rave about them but nothing about my experience went as expected. - After being assured the prints would be done on time (timing was critical), I had to wait an additional 30 minutes. - When compared to a much cheaper print shop's prints their prints were blurry and dull. - At their request I left copies of prints from other shops to compare to theirs (which they promised they would return safely to me) but of course, all of them were promptly misplaced and lost. So, not only did I get bad prints from them, but they cost me the loss of the decent prints I'd gotten elsewhere!! And there was no offer to replace them or reimburse me for this loss. I was holding off on writing a bad review, hoping I'd misjudged them, but this last goof up was just too much. Not cool. read more

Yes print media is not dead. These guys do a great job. Always on time, always good quality. Can do low to high volumes. Pricing competitive. Excellent customer service (Jill). This area can be a bitch to park in but they do have a couple spaces in the building. Just watch out for the parking rent-a-cop who well get into your shit hard for not parking in the Alpha spots. read more

Let me start by saying that I am very picky, and I am a very satisfied customer. I recently got my wedding invitations printed here, and they came out great. I had purchased graphics from Etsy, but I wanted a local printer to print them. I got in touch with CK Graphics to get an estimate on cost, and since the beginning they were extremely responsive, quick, thorough and affordable. Gary got back to me right away. He used our graphics and gave me a thorough explanation of what they could do and the process. The estimate for price was AMAZING. Way better than having Etsy print them. He had me come in and pick the right color ink and prepared a blue line proof at NO COST (not sure about the other review). If I did want an actual SAMPLE, that would cost money, and he was upfront about that and the reasons behind it. He also fit as much as possible on each page to keep cost down. I inquired about envelopes, and he was honest and recommended I get those somewhere else. I was so impressed with the commitment to do the job well and not up sell me on anything. The invitations came today, and they looked great. I will definitely go back here for all sorts of things. I can't comment on the other services, but my experience was a great one. I have high expectations, and they were exceeded. I'm so thrilled we chose to go with a local company for our prints, and would recommend Gary to any of my friends or family for their printing. read more

I had a logo professionally designed a couple of years ago and it includes many colors. Initially I went through Alphagraphics for business cards because I really wanted the best print quality. Everyone compliments my cards and asks about the designer and printer. When it came time to reorder, I tried to save money by using Vistaprint, who has typically been great for simple print projects. It cost about 50% of what Alphagraphics charges, but the multiple brown tones all came out black and many of the other colors were altered as well. It actually was so off in both the text and logo, that I decided the cards are completely unusable (well, maybe as kindling). So back to Alphagraphics I went with my updated card file. They were quick to quote, quick to print and by the end of the week I was picking up a new box of gorgeous business cards. Sure, they cost more than bargain printers online. But it's worth it, and you'll save money in the long run if you just go here first instead of trying the cheaper routes and ending up unhappy with the results. read more

My husband wanted new business cards, and he didn't just want any old business card, he wanted a heavy weight paper, with a slight texture, and his logo embossed. Great! Where to get this done? I saw a card done by C-K Graphics, and knew they were the company for me. I took my disk, and a sample of what I wanted in there, not really knowing the names for the papers, or what weight I would want. Sasha helped me and pulled out half a dozen books for me to touch/look through for the right paper, and walked me through the process of getting the cards made. Not only was he professional, and knowledgeable, but he was also very friendly and welcoming with the questions. I often get the "High Fidelity" treatment when I go to print places, but not so here. I will send friends here, and I'll be going back for our annual Solstice Fondue cards, which we don't trust to many. read more

If I was able to give negative stars I would. Their turn around time, responsiveness and customer service is abismal at its best. We order specialized stickers that we approved without having looked over in detail. When we discovered the mistake a day later and tried to correct it we were told that it was too late they were already printed and we understood as it was our fault so we paid almost $300.00. We placed a new order with the necessary correction at FULL price. It took three (3) weeks to process the new order. After emailing several time for an ETA with no response whatsoever. We were suddenly sent a tracking for an overnight shipping label but only after I emailed the CEO. I then placed a call in to Camille asking for an explanation for the stop gap. The only response was I'm sorry you waill receive them Monday. The LEAST she could have offered, as I just paid $600.00, is a partial discount, but I guess that level of customer service just doesn't exist anymore. read more

I've used Alphagraphics for the past 5 years and had great service from Tucker and his staff. I discovered them through a friend and I've recommended them to other friends (who've been happy with the results). I'll continue to use them because I've found them to be dependable, prompt, nice and knowledgeable. Some of my jobs have been small, relying on their digital printing. Over the years I've been impressed with their digital printing and seen it get even better as the technology has improved and they've made an ongoing effort stay abreast of these advances. I've received some beautiful, affordable printed pieces as a result. Some of my projects have been large enough to take advantage of their offset printing--again no complaints. Their knowledge of Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) postal requirements and preparation has made my direct-mail flats easy and worry free. They can handle a quick turnaround, but I try to let them know if I have extra time as I believe it can help a job to go even smoother if people aren't rushing unnecessarily, plus I like to give ink a little more time to dry. I believe that ensuring a good end product involves a commitment on my part to check proofs carefully--making sure to communicate any concerns. Mistakes can happen (sometimes mine, sometimes theirs), so if I'm prompt and thorough problems can be found early with plenty of time to ensure a flawless end product. Alphagraphics has been easy to work with and repeatedly demonstrated a superior commitment to quality and service. When we do receive a callback, they give us the runaround and won't even provide a price. This place went down the tubes. We had to scramble looking for a replacement print shop. I was very disappointed with my experience with this Alphagraphics location. We have worked with other Alphagraphics in other parts of the country and been pleased, but this location totally dropped the ball. The customer service was terrible, and when I called to speak with a manager about the service issues, I never received a call back. The graphic was printed incorrectly and installed... they eventually re-printed it at no additional cost but the "corrected" version still did not meet my expectations, and on top of that, I received absolutely no communication about the timing of the replacement graphic. Very disappointed with the experience overall and I will definitely not be using this vendor again. read more

THESE GUYS HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! I had to get business cards for my boss and the whole transaction was done via email so I never got to see the card stock. When I picked them up and paid for them they were sooooo thin it was like having a business card printed on regular paper ...only you have to pay $200 bucks for them. I brought in a stack of business cards showing them that the paper they used in NOT INDUSTRY STANDARD. I asked them to work with me on getting them printed and they wouldn't. I asked them to requote the job with a thicker paper. It took them over 8 days to get back to me. I had to call and email several times. In the end, they wanted almost $300 to fix this issue which is not working me on the issue. I hate to say this is not your friendly local business... never go here. You are better off at Kinko's for god sake... read more

Then, about 10 years ago, a colleague referred me to AlphaGraphics and I have been using them ever since. i was super stressed and working on a tight deadline and needed a bunch of 5x7 prints asap. so after being crazy disappointed by a few other places, i turned to alpha. i am still kicking myself for not going through them from the get go! i filled out their online form after they had already closed, and i had a quote emailed back first thing the next morning. everyone i worked with via phone and email were super nice and friendly. and everything was ready to go by the end of the day! and when i came to pick up my prints, it was the exact same pleasant experience! everyone was so wonderful there. one lady talked to me about my teal hair while i waited, and another guy chatted me up about what my prints were for and seemed genuinely interested and super friendly. he even pointed out that a guy working in the back had on an adventure time shirt like one of my prints. it was such a laid back, friendly atmosphere. :) the quality was just as great, too! my prints looked amazing and clean and professional. i couldn't have been happier! i'll definitely be going through them for absolutely everything now. (also, the cute office dog should have her own desk and/or be the door greeter! just throwing that out there.) read more

I knew exactly what I wanted, so that helps. The printing came out better than I expected. The people were very pleasant to deal with and I felt the price was reasonable. When it came time to do the print run (digital), they set up the layout of the files so that we could print as many different items on a single page as possible - saved us several hundred dollars. CK Graphics rescued my wedding invitations. I had a proof made by a less expensive printer and it looked TERRIBLE. They told me that there was nothing that could be done, but I decided to take it to CK Graphics and see what they said. They made a proof for me that looked perfect.
