I visited during the Plymouth Ice Festival and simply had to try a hot chocolate from Alpine Chocolat Haus when I saw that they had dark hot chocolate. Some of the best hot chocolates I've ever had are from chocolate shops (makes sense) so I had high hopes. The price was quite reasonable I think for a premium hot chocolate, $4.99 for a dark hot chocolate with Mayan spice (cinnamon, cayenne, etc.) added. There was an option to add whipped cream and marshmallows but I opted out. The cocoa was excellent - delightfully chocolatey and definitely spicy - it definitely had a kick. I would order again in a heartbeat - maybe it's a good thing for my body that I don't live that close to Plymouth. They also have a nice array of chocolates, very similar to classic chocolate shops. I bought a couple of dark chocolate covered cherries and dark chocolate honeycomb chips for my mother and she loved them and she can normally be very picky about these type of chocolates. She said they were very fresh and the cherry flavor of the chocolate covered cherries was excellent. These were probably her favorite chocolates she's had in the last ten years or so. Alpine Chocolate Haus was definitely a winner and we'll be back whenever we're in Plymouth. read more

Oh my goodness!!! What an absolute gem. I had the most glorious hot chocolate (Mayan with dark chocolate). This had to be the best hot chocolate I had in my life! I found this place by chance as I was killing some time in downtown Plymouth..sort of a memory lane tour. The stock of treats is vast!!! Chocolates, candy caramel apples, ice cream and yes, hot chocolate. My goodness! The inside decor is to die for. The staff were so nice! I think I met an owner (male). He said the company has been around for 40 years in Michigan and about 14 years in Plymouth. The vibe is so nice and I can't recommend this place more. Everyone was kind. All I felt was love! Alpine is an excellent choice for out-of-towners because there are so many chocolate and popcorn treats and small gifts that can be easily stowed away in a suitcase. I don't eat ice cream often and don't crave typical flavors like chocolate or rocky road. The ice cream served at Alpine is made by a well-regarded local company, Guernsey Farms Dairy, located in Northville. It was my first time trying Guernsey Farms ice cream, and I liked the Lavender Honey and Lemon Lavender flavors I chose for my cone. My visit was near Easter so I got to see how wide selection they make. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate bunnies doing things besides the normal ones. Chocolate crosses for those who either religious or want to show the religious by biting off a piece of the cross in front of them and not in a nice way. They even have Easter baskets made of chocolate. The normal stock of their normal selection is still available. You can either buy pre boxed or choose individual pieces. Besides chocolate, they have Carmel corn in different varieties. If you are wondering if they, Yes they have candy apples that most high end chocolate shops think they have to have. Not every chocolate house makes sea foam... it's a persnickety candy to make so I bought it naked as well as enrolled in dark with chips added! Also had to buy the lavender cherry bark because I've never seen that before anywhere else! (Both amazing!) But my SUPER find is the basil ice cream.... yes, basil-infused ice cream! Which I also had never had and was so so worth it and unique... love it! (It's not "flavored" with drops of basil flavoring or anything like that... I'm talking basil stuck in your teeth! Amazing!) This place is so adorable! It reminds me of an ice cream shop from a hallmark movie with the downtown plymouth vibe. This is where you see so many people on first dates and it makes sense. It really has that hallmark vibe that can't help but show that love is in the air. The service was lovely and a girl with blonde hair was so friendly. Living near Downtown Plymouth for most of my life, I have stopped into Alpine Chocolate Haus many times over the years. Every time, they're extremely friendly and even offer samples of multiple items -- the chocolate covered potato chips are are a fav and so is the ghost pepper caramel corn. I've also purchased the dark chocolate covered espresso beans multiple times. It's a local Michigan business (started in Gaylord) that warms my heart and taste buds to support. You can make a custom chocolate bar with a bunch of different add-ins for a reasonable price, which is a cute idea for a personalized gift or even to treat yo own self. They also recently started carrying a variety of fun, unique popcorn flavors year-round. Not all are chocolate-related which you might not expect. Really good chocolate place. They have samples all over the store too. I got about 8 truffles/chocolate pieces and it was less than $8 - great deal. Apparently the chocolate is made in Gaylord, according to the box. I sampled one of their mixes too and it was delicious - it had chocolate-covered potato chips in it. I also tried a piece of their caramel apple, and they have a ton of really tasty-looking caramel apples... One was even Michigan pothole-themed, which was funny. The service at Alpine is terrific! The lady (I'm sorry I did not remember her name) behind the counter during our visit on December 30th, 2018 was patient, knowledgeable, friendly, and so helpful in helping us decide what to get. We liked their Facebook page so we tried a sample from the counter. There were other samples around of their popcorn and other treats to try. I loved their coconut chocolates and the peanut butter ones (I wish I remembered their names!) from the counter. I had a candy bar made with dark chocolate, pecans, mixed berries, and such for my brother. They have two sizes and you can mix dark or milk chocolate with toppings to mold your own chocolate bar. They take 15 or so minutes to set. I just want to a nearby store and came back when it was ready. For less than $8 I had a large, handmade chocolate bar for my brother as a gift. Great deal! Both the milk and dark chocolate are flavorful and not overly sweet. Everything we tasted was delicious and fresh. I really enjoyed our experience there and we will certainly be back many times in the future! read more

They are so many decadent treats to choose from including ice cream and smoothies. I finally settled on the white chocolate cashew bark. I loved it. I also had the mild ghost pepper caramel corn. Saw the sign on the door enticing us to try their truffle hot chocolate. I picked out the double chocolate truffle with fudge and topped it with marshmallows. It was so chocolatey and rich and so deliciously decadent. The best hot chocolate I have had in the US so far. The other best was in a Thai cafe in Bangkok and the other was a cafe in Venice. The store is known best for its ice cream and premium chocolate, and most notably the chocolate covered potato chips and grab bag of chocolate covered potato chips and popcorn. It may sound weird, but both are delicious. The price is more than what you'd pay for a Hershey, but you get wha you pay for it -- a far better chocolate product, on par with the near by Kilwin's. The salty dog ice cream (exclusively sold at Alpine) is the best. It'll melt quick but worth it, plus I always have wipes on hand with a toddler in tow. They have a nice area in the back where you can sit and enjoy your ice cream including a kids table with little chairs that are perfect for a group of little ones. There is a tv with typically mature audience cartoons, which seems strange to me, with the kids table. Something a bit more kid friendly would be nice. read more

I found my new ice cream parlor in Plymouth. They are Michigan made chocolates and everything in that place is amazing! Sampled some cherry peanut butter brittle, literally chunks of Michigan cherries, not your typical peanut brittle. Of course I had to buy some along with chocolate cashew caramel apple and some cherry caramel and sea salt caramel bites. Everything in there looked amazing, for my next visit on my list is the banana split ice cream and chocolate covered cherries! From artisan chocolate truffles, to a variety of caramels and fudge, it's a never ending table that makes my heart skip a beat. I'm basically in love with their truffles.From lavender to rosemary and chocolate mint! Their truffles are decadent, rich, but not cloying sweet! Their caramel apples are also probably some of the best I've ever had. Just the right amount of caramel to chocolate ratio and the apples have a great crunch and freshness to them. They also have a variety of other candies around the perimeter of the store, but I'm always drawn to the marble slab behind the glass that's dripping in caramels, truffles, and fudge, that I haven't taken much notice to what's on the shelves. haha! But pre-boxed chocolates are strewn throughout the store that make for great presents, and the indecisive chocolate lover like myself. They're great about letting you sample candies and Ice Cream which is great since they had a few combinations I was somewhat weary about. There is likely something for everyone in this chocolate haven. Located across from Kellogg Park in downtown Plymouth, Alpine joins the ranks of other chocolatiers, Kemnitz, a stalwart of the area with its amazing cherry cordials, and Kilwin's, with its addictive caramel popcorn. This new addition has shelves and display cases filled with chocolate-covered apples (à la Mrs. Prindables and Rocky Mountain Chocolates), marshmallows, and potato chips; large chocolate bars; slabs of fudge; rows upon rows of truffles; old-fashioned candy options and Guernsey ice cream. Behind the counters, staff was busy creating caramel-sweet waffle cones and chocolate creations. Everything smelled wonderful. After sampling several ice cream flavors, I went with a generous serving of well-churned strawberry. I also had lavender; rosemary/sea salt, and maple chipotle truffles. Unfortunately, the lavender and rosemary ones tasted like soap to my untutored palate. The maple chipotle one was pleasantly spicy. There is plenty of seating within this deceptively large and long store, including a funky lounge area with a large TV towards the back. read more

This may be the best part of downtown Plymouth. Stopped by here with my sister a few weeks ago, and followed up again with my wife during Fall Fest. AMBIANCE- let me start out by saying this place is a lot bigger than it looks like from the outside. I swear, the place is LONG. That said, there was plenty of space to enjoy your treats, and they even have a little lounge area with a couple chairs and a tv set up. Definitely had a modern feel tot the place, yet still seemed very inviting and warm. SERVICE- the lady and manager (owner?) that helped us out both times were very nice. We had little kids with us, and they were very engaging, getting the kids super excited with a few free samples of chocolate. Who wouldn't get excited about that?! MENU- as one might imagine they have ALL kinds of chocolate concoctions. The day we went, they were giving samples of chocolate covered potato chips.They had both dark and milk chocolate chips on that day. In addition to lovely chocolate, they have ice cream from Guerseny (sp.) Farms. If you're jonesing for something sweet, this is your spot no doubt. FOOD- I could tell you how great the chocolate is (and it is), but let me just say salted caramel and chocolate ice cream is REDONKULOUS. I swear, that ice cream alone would make me want to go back to this place. This may top any ice cream I have ever had.... EVER. OVERALL- Love this place! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.
