Today was our first visit, although I have been printing many items of theirs for many years. As of today, I regret never giving them a try. Our granddaughter is visiting from out of state, so we brought her here after lunch for a sweet treat, and it was amazing. Great customer service, great selection and very reasonably priced items. Granddaughter got a basic chocolate soft serve cone, Fiancé got a coffee shake and I got a peanut butter shake. Granddaughter loved her cone, and my Fiancé and I couldn't stop talking about the shakes. They were both phenomenal. I'm conflicted writing this review because I've been going here for years but this recent experience was quite disappointing and so was seeing recent reviews on Google for Dairy King. There's plenty of variety, employees are nice (most are teenagers or young adults), price is "ok" for what you get, but I would rather much visit the ice cream places down the blocks from Dairy King, since they're all close to each other anyway. My problem stems from how when they're busy, they don't want to get customers in/out the door. Some I see are visibly irritated with families with large orders because the family's of four or five have many ice cream requests. Not the biggest deal, which is where I come in. I've seen the countless, 100% Artificial Intelligence created boards that advertise and display their menu. To me, it's awful they can't use some of their employee's handwriting or creativity to make the displays (don't we see that at standard ice cream shops anyway?). It just didn't right that they couldn't pay even a one time fee for someone to create these menu boards, they rely on AI instead. I took a quick Google still on Dairy King's reviews about it, to see if I was the only one. Not surprisingly, I saw one person comment on it and said how it was disappointing. This reviewer wasn't even rude, just said how it's a frustrating experience for an ice cream shop. Rightfully so! It is! My even greater concern, where the one star officially comes in, is how the business owner on Google reviews for Dairy King was egocentric, and very passive aggressive with the reviewer, basically backing down on using AI without taking any kind of feedback for their restaurant. Isn't that what having an ice cream shop or any restraint about, listening and wanting feedback? For similar prices (and ice cream you can get anywhere else), I will not return. While hunting for dessert, we stumbled upon this place. It was fairly crowded for a Sunday noon but the employees were with it and kept the line moving quickly. They have rock n roll memorabilia that cover the walls throughout the store. Their selection is great with dairy free, sugar free, and gluten free options. A very large selection of Ashby and Guernsey ice creams, shakes, flurries and sundaes. My favorite is house made waffle cones, so yum. Great treats and we really enjoyed. The prices are fair and reasonable. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Limited parking but you can do street parking as-well. We went here on a Friday evening and the line was around the corner. And once I tried the ice cream, I see why. They have Guernsey ice cream, which never disappoints. This place is 20 steps away from downtown Plymouth. Down the street from Kilwins We went there last night at 9.15pm and the place was BUSY! I dont think I have ever seen a dull moment at this Dairy King at all - whenever I drive by it. There was people sitting outside by the street enjoying ice cream, some were inside the shop and some like us took theirs to downtown Plymouth and to sit in the park or by the Water fountain. The best part about this unlike most icecream places is they have much more than just the softserve or sundaes. They have real icecream from Guernsey Dairy. My daughter had a huge craving for nostalgia and really wanted a character shaped ice cream novelty. Besides trying to track down an ice cream truck, which I rarely see, I knew of one place to satisfy her hankering and it was Dairy King. I had always wanted to try this place anyway since we always pass it during the art fair. This time we made a stop and it was well worth it. We purchased the very fun and fruity Power Puff girl cherry ice cream stick. It was loads of fun to eat and took us back to childhood. If you are also craving these gems, they had Spongbob, Spiderman, Minions, and Bugs Bunny. So fun! I had the regular scoop of ice cream with two flavors, playdough and peanut butter cookie dough topped with peanut butter sauce. It was delicious and a great price, especially compared to some of the other ice cream places in the area. This stand also serves sugar free, vegan, daily free, and oat milk items. The individuals working here were friendly and helpful. They looked up ingredients for us and were very accommodating. This is my first time coming here and on a beautiful summer night, it was quite busy but the store handled the crowd quite well. There was clear markings to distance and cute inspirational fun sayings to read on the way to getting in line. One that was funny was the joke that toilet paper was acceptable currency.They have a large variety of sweet treats and a few vegan/nondairy items which although I like ice cream a lot, I have a dairy intolerance. Also helpful is a large sign with menu items in line so you can look at options. When you are enjoying yourself and the weather is great, the wait was not a big deal to me even though it was wrapped around the building. My son picked a cookie dough flurry with hot fudge mixed it and I chose a frozen coke. I was however tempted by the vegan black cherry but having a bit of stomach trouble played it safe. Not a lot of outdoor seating but you're so close to downtown you're only three blocks from the park with a water fountain and places to sit. Updating because we love Dairy King. It was a staple for us this year (2020) and provided us with a safe and fun event for our kids to look forward to. The waffle cones are homemade and amazing. I learned this year that they also have a dark chocolate homemade hot fudge. I will never to back to regular hot fudge. Never. The Guernsey's ice cream they offer is fantastic. They also have dairy free, egg free, and gluten free options, which makes it a great stop where everyone can find something they like. I grew up on this! I really do like it here. It is owned by locals and they seem to keep their help happy. You will always get good service and often a big smile too. It is very clean here which is nice of course. Quality soft serve, happy slushes, the kid beloved slush floats and ever popular flurries. It is my mom's fave place to get a Boston cooler and my dad's to get a black cow. He is also partial to the Guernsey ice cream they carry, including his all time fave butter pecan. They also do dipped ice cream bars and bananas. I love a good chocolate dipped frozen banana rolled in nuts. Wait, that sounds bad doesn't it? You will see locals and their pets stroll by on summer evenings, it is a chill, laid back kind of place even with the lines they can get. Very Plymouth. I think everyone in town comes here. Traveling through Michigan, we figured it was time for some ice cream! We fired up the Yelp app and it pointed us to this Dairy King. One of my favorite things about Yelp is is that it helps us discover new places. Sometimes we get really lucky and experience something completely unique and off our own radar. This review is about Dairy King but it is also about the amazing town of Plymouth, which it calls home. If you are familiar with the movie "Back to the Future", it could've been filmed here. There is an obvious pride in Plymouth and we witnessed it everywhere. The old art-deco movie house is in pristine condition and running newly released films. The town square was vibrant and alive with big band music being played by local non-professional musicians :-) The popcorn vendor was friendly and selling popcorn for a good cause. The entire town simply brought smiles to our faces. It looks like there are also many good restaurants that we look forward to trying out. We've marked Plymouth in our GPS and plan to return soon. Oh right, the ice cream, delicious! The shop creates some really cool flavors and has a perfect 1940's/50's vibe. So disappointed, on Monday night (March 25th, 2024) over an hour before closing, we walked up to the OPEN and LIT window and waited. We were the only people standing outside with a few people inside waiting. Multiple workers stood inside, most of them on their phones while we waited outside to order like normal, we made eye contact through the OPEN window and were blatantly ignored, finally another man stood in line behind us and another 5 minutes later, a worker came to a closed window, flung it open and asked to help whoever was next and this man bolted around us before we could even get there and ordered. We waited, yet again until the man received his order, stood at the same window to order as it was slammed closed in our faces and these little teens turned their backs once again and ignored us. We walked away annoyed and really confused, no signs were posted about ordering inside and no one said ANYTHING. So insane, never experienced this level of childish disregard in my life. We stop at the Dairy King pretty frequently when we're just out cruising around on nice summer nights. It's always a good time, and I actually don't mind that there's usually a line. The people in line and working always seem to be in a good mood, and my daughter loves visiting with the dogs that many customers seem to have with them walking around downtown. My only word of warning is against the silly novelty ice creams. I once got my husband and I the Spiderman ice cream and the Race Car ice cream bars. They were horrible. The bubble gum that I was looking forward to in some sick, twisted way was even stale. I think this was mostly the fault of my own poor taste in choosing, though. read more

The Dairy KING is a historical place for Plymouth, MI. It is the best tasting ice cream, soft ice cream and frozen yogurt within miles. The others are "fake" tasting but Dairy King has creamy and flavorful ice cream products. My granddaughters love the Sponge Bob popsicles with gumballs in his face! You can go there and not spend a whole bunch of money and still get a treat. You can walk around Plymouth or sit on the steps in town. The lines are always long but they get them trimmed down very quickly. It never takes any time at all. They hire many of the High School kids that are out for the Summer and they are always the most kind and polite and pleasant teens and young people. The owner is visible most of the time and he's really nice too. We love to get in out of the hot Summer humidity at times and sit inside as well. The people that come inside are always kind and talkative too. People all speak highly of this little eclectic shop tucked away in the awesom fun town of Plymouth. They have Guernsy hard ice cream and many flavors too. It has been around forever and I think it will be around for a very long time. If you have to make a choice of which ice cream place to go to and you want to get help making that decision, look no farther because Im here to tell you to choose the Dairy King. It is awesome and it won't cost you more than a couple bucks each. My husband and I can visit for only $1 each, because we get a "baby cone" each most of the time. They don't mind at all.
