Cute, quaint ice cream shop with calming atmosphere in Downtown Plymouth. Staff were friendly and answered questions about the menu. The only downside was the pricing which I felt was on the higher end. $6 for what was called a "small" though the design on the cup implies it's a kid serving. While the design is cute, marketing may want to rethink that approach. I'm not sure if there is an actual kids serving offered. Sizes after small are "regular" and "large". The scoop size was appropriate for a "small" so the quantity given was satisfying. The price point wasn't a deciding factor in the final review as I recognize it also reflects both the area & market for ice cream shops but good to keep it mind. It may be more value for the dollar to get a regular size which seems closer to a double scoop portion. Ice cream was smooth and refreshing after being in the summer heat. Came in for some dessert after dinner in town, and they have the best caramel ice cream! Also tried the fudge brownie, so good and creamy. Someone in my group had the coconut, that was the best coconut ice cream I've had. It had chocolate covered toasted coconut. Service was very good, the girl scooping our ice cream was very patient. Kilwin's carries one of my favorite ice cream flavors of all time - Toasted Coconut. Really I've enjoyed all of the ice cream flavors that I've tried there. Kilwin's is the place to be for your sugary fixes. The Fudge, Dipped Strawberries, assortments of specialty chocolate, Ice cream, chocolate and caramel dipping sauces. I could also mention the caramel corn as well. I would've given them a 5 star but they're 2 portable freezers that hold the quarts of ice cream and cakes has been busted for the last 2 months and that has hurt my heart every time I go in. Like my sea salt caramel and mint chocolate chip on occasion. Looking forward to them getting new portable freezers. The staff is always amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and really helpful. The staff is full of energy and I think it's because of the environment they work in. The parking situation is tricky but doable. parking on the side street next the Kilwin's and parking across the street at kellogg park. Kilwin's is well kept building and very clean. Most days you'll be able to watch them making the fudge or chocolates on the large granite stone in the window. Give them a try and enjoy the sugary goodness. read more

LOVE Kilwin's always! It was definitely a go-to place for ice cream and fudge my four years of college at Michigan and it always brings a nostalgic smile to my face whenever I walk past one somewhere in Michigan. So my whole group and I happened to walk by Kilwin's, located in the heart of downtown Plymouth, over the weekend during the Ice Festival and it just felt like the perfect place to stop in after dinner and before ending the night. Yes, it was like single-digit weather, but I can always go for Kilwin's ice cream! My favorite ice creams they carry are the ones with streaks of fudge in them. I think in the past there's been one that's Mackinac Island Fudge flavored or something like that, but they didn't have that one available, so I oped for their smores flavor instead, which had fudge streaks, graham cracker crumble, chocolate chips, and marshmallow ice cream. It was so light and fluffy and the perfect balance of ALL flavors. I loved it! There is so much more to Kilwin's as well other than ice cream. I also went home with a caramel, but tons of my other friends got drinks (cold and hot), adorable chocolates, like chocolate covered orange peels and truffles galore, and of course FUDGE! Do yourself a favor and check out Kilwin's! They have locations all over Michigan and I think in other states as well. But they definitely originated in this great state (specifically, in Petoskey I believe!) and always scratch my itch for fudgey goodness without being on actual Mackinac Island! read more

I went to Mackinac Island a few months ago and had a chance to eat lots of delicious fudge. Yesterday I was really craving fudge. Thankfully we had Kilwin's in Plymouth! This store didn't have as many options of fudge slices as on the island, but they dud carry the essential flavors. They also offered a buy 2 get 1 free deal for the fudge, which was awesome. I ended up getting 3 flavors: salted caramel, double dark, and maple walnut. I sampled the salted caramel and it was super duper heavenly. I wished they also had carried a white-chocolate flavor like vanilla or cookie and cream, cause I would definitely get one of those. And the service behind the counter was absolutely outstanding. The guy was ready to help me with my questions, providing fudge samples, and he showed me excellent customer service. I'd definitely go back to this store 100%. read more

The interior vibe is polished with a historic nod, with classic tables by the window where you can enjoy your treats. The irresistible fudge is made on site, and was super creamy and just delicious... it was sooo smooth it almost reminded me of rich carmel, with out a touch of grit. I'd consider it on par with Mackinaw Island and Lake Geneva, WI. The premium ice cream proved to be an indulgence that hit all the right notes. Lots of flavors to choose from, and the quality is evident. You can sample the fudge and ice cream to pick your flavor first, too. Heavenly chocolate covered espresso beans sold by the pound won't disappoint, either. The service pbehind the counter was absolutely first rate, and so patient with my kids as they decided exactly what to splurge on with their gift cards. He truly couldn't have been nicer, and even helped up solve a marshmallow sucker issue at no fault of the store. Yes, a Kilwin"s fudge shop in Plymouth. So happy to see their building today on Saturday after braving the cold temperature of 28 degrees at the Plymouth Ice Festival. Before leaving I had to stop in here to buy some of their soft, rich and creamy slabs of flavored fudge. A sign posted on the window said "Special this weekend is Buy 2 Get 1 Free" YES ! Walking inside here was a wonderful aroma of popcorn, and fudge. A counted 4 female employees with Sweet smiles working very quickly serving chocolate craving customers. I ordered 2 peanut (1 for My Mom) :) and 1 salted caramel chocolate slab for $12.75. Great fair total price. Photos to be attached here as well before I slice my slabs of sweetness. **Adding here on Monday, January 14 that I sliced to sample the 2 fudge slabs I bought on Sunday. Salted caramel chocolate fudge = creamy and gooey, fudgy delicious. Peanut butter slab dry and crumbly but ok. A wonderful sweet store. Just standing outside you can see someone rolling and crafting fudge. It is truly an art. Inside are many chocolate desserts are inside from many types of fudge, chocolate covered pretzels, cookies, fruit and etc. There are truffles and candy. The pretzels are covered with white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Some with sprinkles and some with stripes. There is also hard scooped ice cream which originally drew us to the store as a friend's son wanted the ice cream. On the way back to my car, I picked up dark chocolate covered pretzels and regular chocolate fudge. What a delicious find. The store has a punch card for ice cream and caramel apples. If I lived closer, this store would be dangerous. read more

I love Kilwins! Never even knew this place existed until my family visited Florida and stopped into their location in Clearwater Beach last summer. Let's just say I've been missing out on their scrumptious, mouth watering treats my entire life! This location is drive away from my house, but it is the closest one to me. My family and boyfriend have now frequented it a handful of times this year alone. The food must be good if we are driving an hour away just to enjoy it, right? My go-to is mint chocolate chip. I've always been a big mint chocolate chip fan, but for some reason I literally crave Kilwin's version of it. Throw a single scoop in a waffle cone and you'll be extremely satisfied! The waffle cones are made in store and always fresh. They're large in size and you definitely get your money's worth! Service has always been top notch. My family visited one day in February and they were out of most of the flavors. We mentioned we drove an hour just to get there and they kindly gave us a discount on our bill (we didn't ask, we didn't even realize it until after!) Everyone is always welcoming, no matter how busy! My mouth is watering just thinking about ice cream now. Guess you could say another Kilwin's road trip is in my future! read more

Whatever satisfies your sweet tooth, they got chocolate covered apples, turtles, german chocolate fudge, ice cream, marshmallow covered in anything imaginable and gift baskets for upcoming holidays. They have different specials for everyday of the week, it's a real treat! The caramel on the krispie was very rich, and I was unable to finish the bar. I wanted to try the New Orleans pecan praline ice cream but decided against it. My family of five drove over an hour here yesterday just to get some ice cream (it's THAT good!) I've had Kilwins twice in my life. Once in Clearwater Beach, Florida and once in Grand Rapids. Despite having multiple locations in Michigan, the closest one to us is in Plymouth. Well worth the drive! Unfortunately they were out of a lot of the ice cream flavors because a shipment that was intended for this location didn't go to the right location and the warmer weather in February brought a lot of customers to the store. I intended on getting chocolate chip cookie dough but they were out of it, which may have been a good thing because I was able to try a different flavor that I turned out to love! I had the Plymouth Mud ice cream. It had caramel, fudge pieces and was almost as good as the chocolate chip cookie dough. Really creamy! Kilwin's only uses fresh antibiotic-free, rbST-free milk and cream from family farms. They also have chocolates, fudge and other beverages and gifts. They have daily and weekly specials and a few tables to sit at. Service was outstanding and everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Don't forget to get their punch card. 10 punches and you get a free ice cream. Also there's a free ice cream coupon when you buy an ice cream with the Yelp check in offer. Ice cream, chocolate, fudge, candy, Kilwin's has it all. Our local Kilwin's had a large assortment of items last time I went in to pick up ice cream to go for my sister. The chocolate coconut shake is my favorite of its kind. The downside to Kilwin's is the price. They are very expensive. Fudge is one thing, since that's not readily available most other places, but the price of everything else is high. I'd rather go to an ice cream shop that makes their ice cream fresh or has other local creameries stocking the freezers. The only drawback to Kilwin's location is parking. If you're walking around Plymouth, it's an ideal location right across the street from Kellogg Park. If you're going just for the ice cream, though, be prepared for a short walk. read more

The fudge here is to die for. My fave is the peanut butter and the peanut butter chocolate. I will occasionally indulge in some turtle though or chocolate walnut. The consistency is perfect, soft and dense with a little crust. Heavenly, it melts on your tongue. The almond toffee crunch is evilly good and I also liked the variety of chocolate dipped pretzels. My dad raved about the brittles. Ice cream here is super delicious. My personal fave is the toasted coconut but really you cannot go wrong at all. My husband says the other flavors are good but if the coconut is there that is what I'm eating. Evilness but so tasty, a must try. I kinda really dig this place. It's a chain, yes. But it's a good one. My all time favorite item is the dark chocolate covered orange peels. They are really the bomb - not overly sweet, bite size so you don't feel too guilty after eating one (or two...or three...). I'm not much of a milk chocolate fan, but I really think you can't go wrong with any of their dark chocolate treats. Another highlight is their ice cream. The turtle cheesecake is pretty tasty. Their flavors are pretty classic (cookies and cream, butter pecan, etc) - simple but done right. Nice and creamy. And don't forget to check in so you can use your bogo ice cream cone (bonus!!). The staff is always very friendly. I like that they have a lot of people working the counter - especially during special events like Friday night music in the park. This candy and ice cream shop is outstanding! They have delicious ice cream flavors with Michigan inspired flavor themes. They have incredibly scrumptious chocolate and caramel apples. If you want a hot beverage do not skip the sea salt caramel hot chocolate. We have been here quite a few times this year and the service was always consistent. I'm biased because of 2 things...I love chocolate and they give free samples to our customers several times a week but regardless of my bias Krista at Kilwins knows her samples are so good that she has been walking free samples across the street to our customers several times a week since we opened (www.paintingescapes.com) in Nov 2012. Drizzled dark chocolate popcorn is my favorite. I usually don't like fudge because I find it to be heavy and gritty but not hers!! It so silky and light compared to other fudges...even the "world famous" Mackinaw fudge doesn't touch Kilwins Fudge! THEY SELL ICE CREAM TOO! Perfect place to grab a sweet and walk through Kellogg park directly across the street where the cities festivals and free concerts are centered. Plan an entire day or night out around downtown Plymouth's attractions! Kilwin's isn't just about fudge! After dinner with friends, we decided to get ice cream at Kilwin's. I didn't know that Kilwin's had ice cream, but I was pleasantly surprised. Kilwin's had 20-25 flavors of ice cream. I tried the cookies and cream and it was probably the best ice cream I've ever had. And of course, while we were there we bought some fudge too. The shop is very nice and clean. The shop is small so there is only 1 or 2 tables, so expect to take your purchase to go. Extremely unhappy with the customer service. Approximately $65.00 for an ice cream cake. I ordered it with a happy birthday message to my wife. When I picked it up, it was sealed. Brought it home and opened it and the happy birthday message, piped in chocolate, was on top of parchment paper. So I had to remove the message to place the candles on it. We made do. But what the issue I have is. When I looked at the box the cake had come in, it clearly states that the paper needs to be removed prior to writing any message on it. The question I have, so they not know that? I called the next day. Not necessarily to complain, but to inform them of the mistake. I was told I would receive a call back the next day, by the production manager, and never did. I not looking for anything free or any type of discount, but my expectation from any business is to at least get a return phone call to a customer that spent their money at their establishment. Unfortunately, they have my wife's favorite ice cream. After not receiving a call back, my wife has decided that when we go for ice cream, we'll go to somewhere else that values our business.
