The Alpine Inn is an Omaha staple for a reason! The woodsy locale, coupled with the raccoons on the patio, make for a unique ambiance and cool dining experience. Our server was very nice, even though she was the only server for the whole dining area on a Sunday. The fried chicken was very good and is made to order for each person in an open kitchen, which I also thought was very cool. Overall, certainly worth the drive for the experience and top notch fried chicken.

The words I'd use to describe this place don't come near to how it actually appears. It's a very Masonic feel with the big windows pointed out toward the woods with all the surrounding trees. The brick fire place makes the whole space feel so welcoming. I will indeed say my favorite part would have to be the raccoons. They're so plump and fuzzy! Definitely a different kind of entertainment we're used to but I'm honestly here for it.

Okay I came here exclusively for the raccoons but the fried chicken was top notch. Our waitress was so kind and moved us to a table with prime viewing after overhearing my excitement for the raccoons. There's about 80 wild raccoons that come pay them a visit and we got to see 4 of them (and 2 local cats). The waitress even showed us a pic from when there were 50 of them eating at once! For prime raccoon viewing the strategy is to go after dusk on warmer nights, according to the staff. I didn't get to try everything on the menu but based on raccoon activity the potato wedges were the favorite. I'll have to make it a point to come back again when I visit Nebraska, what a cute unique spot you guys go here

Alpine Inn is the very definition of a "hidden gem". It is located off the beaten path, the building is old and rustic, and you pass through a dimly-lit bar past a pool table to get to the restaurant. The dining area has large windows to allow patrons to view raccoons feasting on chicken bones. [Unfortunately, not a single raccoon was present during our recent lunch there. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?] I'll tell you whatcha gonna do... eat some delicious fried chicken! That is their specialty -- and they do it right! I had the Tenders 4 Piece Dinner which featured large juicy strips that they obviously made on site. No frozen, out of the bag chicken items here--these were actually tender and delicious. My wife had Chicken w/ Onion Rings (the waiter staff likely saved the bones for those hiding raccoons). She enjoyed the 3 smaller pieces of chicken and we took the breast for later. My meal came with Macaroni Salad which was ok (I have a high bar when it comes to that side dish) and potato wedges. The wedges were a good-sized potato cut in fourths, then breaded and fried. Nicely done, but I would have liked some additional seasoning on them. Two of our group eschewed the chicken and ordered Hamburgers. Both of them liked their burgers which tells you that the kitchen can handle more than just chicken. As we left, we noticed the big selection of pies and cakes -- they looked great and we wished we would have saved some room for dessert. Might have to go back later and sample some of those...

Specializes in fried chicken and boy it's good. You step back in time to like retro style diner-bar. With big windows so you can watch the raccoons eat the fried chicken. We all got the fried chicken dinner with either Cole slaw and macaroni salad and side of fries, wedges, onion rings. HUGE portions. For $13!

We heard about the raccoons and we were so excited to visit this place! There are limited food options and the food tasted okay. However, we didn't manage to see any raccoons as the food pile for them are not full yet (they only feed the raccoons when it's almost full I think). For those who would like to see the raccoons, I would suggest to come during the evening like around 5-7pm before the sunsets? We came during lunch time and we weren't able to see them.

Just as fun as it seems!!! Relaxed dive bar and grill with a great view. Prices are very reasonable. Menu is small but excellent. Chicken wings are crispy and juicy. Ranch is the good kind. I wanted something without gluten and the server let me order the chicken tenders with no breading, grilled and seasoned. They were excellent!! Very juicy and flavorful. Huge portions too!! Their homemade coleslaw is great and I enjoyed their bbq sauce and honey mustard too. Loved the balcony with raccoons :)

We stopped by Alpine Inn late on a Sunday night and had an absolutely great time! We were the only ones there, which made for a relaxed and enjoyable experience. We ordered the "Dinner" option, and let me tell you--the fried chicken and fries were absolutely delicious! Perfectly crispy and flavorful. The bartender/server was so sweet and kind, making us feel right at home. There was also another gentleman there who was just as friendly--he even gave us his plumbing business card, which we really appreciated! It's little moments like that that make a place feel like a true local gem. Noticed they were in the process of remodeling the women's bathroom, which really shows they care about keeping the place nice for their customers. Love coming here and will definitely be back! Would highly recommend if you're looking for great food, great people, and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

Super fun experience dining with the raccoons. It was challenging getting a seat at the windows but the wait stuff was easy to work with and let us move tables when one opened up. Food was good enough but it was really about the experience.

I was in Omaha on business, our host suggested the Alpine Inn. You'll love the raccoons! What??? We had the fried chicken and it was fabulous. So glad I came here...and Yes, there are raccoons outside and they feed them whatever is left over. And best of all, they served Pepsi, I'm in heaven

THIS is definitely an experience !! We went around 3pm and we got lucky and got a perfect table. The food is pretty good. Needs more seasoning in my opinion, like the fried chicken. Tastes brined, which is good but needs more than that. But let's be honest, you really come for the raccoons.

So if you're wanting a unique experience put this place on your must stop by list!

Ask the Community - Alpine Inn

    What is the seating capacity?

I weigh 275 and the chairs seemed a little rickety so I would guess its not more than 300lb.

How early in the evening do the raccoons come out?

It can be anywhere from 7 to 15. The highest I counted was 20.

Josephine's is one of those bars that I driven past many times in my life but never stepped inside…read moreof. I corrected that recently when I dropped by on a Friday night. The place is interesting and its not entirely clear where the entrance is. Once you find it alongside 22nd St, you go into an entryway and then down a few stairs, passed a trophy case and into the basement bar. It definitely has the feel of being someone's basement because it is. Above the bar sits a house. The place is old and you can tell once you enter it but it's still kind of cool with its dim setting, christmas lights, creepy doll heads and pool table. The wallpaper across from the bar was like an 1890's Parisian style. The tap beer selection was limited to two options from what I could tell. One was Budweiser or something similar and the other was Boulevard Wheat. They also had a full bar so I imagine the bartender, Frank, can make just about whatever you wanted. Speaking about Frank, he's one of the friendliest bartenders I've ever encountered. I learned that he's been there 40 years. I suspect this place used to be a lot busier but on this evening, we were the only one's for a while. Maybe the closure of Malara's across the street hurt their business as I'm sure the prevalance of new bars downtown and midtown. I really hope this place can return to its former glory because its such a unique place in Omaha. In some ways it reminds of Homy Inn. Definitely pay it a visit and have a chat with Frank.

I liked the quiet atmosphere of the place, until someone plugged money in the old jukebox and it sprang to life, filling the tiny space with noise.
