This place is so fun. I stopped here randomly driving back to Omaha and I'm so happy I did. I got the cowboy burger and yeehaw it was so good. Having grown accustom to the excellence embodied by the former owner of the Longhorn, I had high expectations for the renewed V.3 of Fort Calhoun's Longhorn. I ordered a Taco Salad. It was a below average version, served in the shell, albeit soggy, tasteless and less than memorable. I suppose the base cost was average. Another in our party ordered a burger and learned fries, etc. were all extra. Ice tea is for one small glass. No free refills policy was learned the hard way at check out time. The final straw was when the Omaha Restaurant Tax was added on to end of the bill. Fort Calhoun does not collect this tax. The explanation was it was part of their software from other restaurants the owner operated. If cash was paid they would remove it. My anticipation for something as good or better than V.2 has been dashed. We will not return. read more

If you like sweet drinks, the Blue Calhoun goes down pretty easily. The wings are also fantastic. They are huge and well worth the cost that another reviewer noted. Located in Fort Calhoun NE, the Longhorn isn't one of those places I visit often just because of the location. When I do make it there, I always leave extremal satisfied and full. I have to admit, that this is one of the places that you might feel uncomfortable going into for fear of being stared at by the regulars. That may happen, but if you can get over it, the service and food will make up for it. The Longhorn is what you would call a "dive bar." Old, a bit dingy here and there yes. Full of character, absolutely. Ancient chairs, stools, and posters litter the floors and walls. It just adds to the charm. Food: This is one of those places that isn't trying to impress with fancy food. You go there to get some old fashioned bar food. Burgers, chicken, fried everything etc... The hot wings are a great bargain (for those of you who like hot wings.) $6.95 for 10-12 wings. They are breaded, (which makes them memorable) fried, and tossed in wings sauce that is just spicy enough. No paying for a side of ranch here... They just hand you a whole squeeze bottle full. Other notable items include the broasted chicken, broasted potato wedges, and believe it or not, the French Dip Sandwich. Like I said before, don't think fancy, (or fresh/homemade in most cases) think Good. Bar: One beer on tap (sad...) Coors Light. They also carry you normal domestics in bottles and a spattering of cans. Beyond the beer, there is a full bar to satisfy your thirst. Prices: Extremely reasonable. You get WAY more food and drink for your dollar than you would at a place in Omaha. 2 drinks, an appetizer, and 2 entrees can easily be under $25. Skip the appetizer and you are well under $20. Tips: Parking is out front, on the side or out back. I would go with out back. Use the back door, hang a right, and you have just entered like you are a regular. THEY DO NOT TAKE CREDIT CARD!!!! Cash or check only. The nearest ATM is across the street. Larger tables can be put together for bigger parties. Just get there before the dinner rush and you won't have an issue. Longhorn. This place is total old school - and that my friends is a good thing. I love these kind of places. Everybody knows everybody and everyone is friendly - from the staff to the regulars. Now in all honesty the last review compared the burgers here to Stella's, they are not even close. But with that being said the burger was very good, patty melt was great, fries were standard issue and onion rings were pretty darn good. The prices here seem almost too good to be true. The bartender/waitress was very nice. I would go back here anytime. read more

I work in Ft. Calhoun and have eaten here once. The burger I had for lunch was incredible! The flavor, size and presentation is how a burger should be. I'm a purist when it comes to cheeseburgers, personally if you add ketchup to a burger, I just don't think we can be friends..... This burger might be better than the 3 places in Omaha known for their burgers: Stella's, Dinker's, and Louie M's. The price was great too! I was with a group from work so I didn't participate in any tasty nectar. From what I can tell it's domestics all the way, and that's ok because you are there for the bar food not for a pricey microbrew. Great little dive, and nice to get out of town to try some place new. Small town bar and grill located in Fort Calhoun. Like so many small town hang outs, this appears to be where the locals congregate. The interior is what you'd expect, dated and a little dingy, but usually pretty full, both your old guys putting back some beers (nothing fancy here, just basic Bud, Miller, PBR, etc.), and local families having a bite to eat. Staff has always been pretty friendly as well. Now on to the food. Nothing here is going to knock your socks off, but they have a pretty darn good burger, and pretty decent wings. Burgers are hand formed patties, and the wings breaded and large, with a single option of 'hot' for the sauce. A bit of spice, but nothing serious. Last time we were here the wings were a bit greasy, but usually they are pretty good. We opted for some waffle fries, and beware, the side order of fries is huge, easily big enough for two or three people. They also come with a side of that gas station yellow nacho cheese to dip them in. Who knows what it's made of, but it is oddly addictive. Overall this is a decent place to grab a bite. I don't know that I'd drive all the way across Omaha just to try it, but if you are nearby (or live in North O'), check it out. The wings here are the best I've ever had. They come in a wax paper lined basket just like the should be in a small town bar. They come 'hot' (straight out of the fryer dressed in a spicy hot sauce) or you can get them with sauce on the side. I've only experienced great service each time I've been in, all the staff is excellent. Their menu is packed with a variety of options that go perfectly with a cold beer. Some of the best appetizers are: cheese balls, pickle fries, spicy corn nuggets and fried cauliflower. The Frisco burger is a perfectly cooked burger sandwiched between marble rye bread along with tomato bacon and mayo, a nice change from the standard bar cheeseburger. It's a nice bar tucked in Fort Calhoun with awesome food, great service and cold beer. read more

Service was ok at thr beginning. The bartender took our order and the drinks were great but we never were able to get a second because she suddenly left and the other two bartenders never paid a bit of attention to us despite sitting at the bar. We sat for about 10 minutes waiting for one of them to come over and check our drinks but thwy were too busy chatting with the cooks and their regulars on the other end of the bar. The wings here are awesome. I know people say Oscar's are the best (which I also love), but I think these wings are better. They are huge and come with a squeeze bottle of ranch to boot. You can't get them char buffed, but get them sauced or sauce on the side and you can't go wrong. In the four or five times I've been here the staff has been very friendly with fast service. i was told fried chicken was their best meal. so, i tried it last night. 4 piece dinner: breast, leg , thigh, and wing. Very light breading and nice tender flesh. There was little to no spices in the crust, but i didn't miss it much. You could get other side dishes for a couple dollars more, I skipped those and had Idaho potatoes, or something like that for an appetizer. Waffle cut spuds, deep fried and served with cheese sauce and jalapeños on the side. Should be 0 stars but can't post without a rating. Not good - first time - told find a place to sit - waited for a table to be cleaned off - waited for a waitress -got menus and drinks - waited over 30 minutes for food - waitress never came back to check on our drinks during that time. Had to go to bar to get refill and check when our food would be out. They said soon, saw our waitress making our food. Ordered grilled chicken salad- not much chicken for $8 and lukewarm. Didn't stay to eat - paid full bill - they didn't seem to sorry about the service. Will not be back. Only thing we got was smelling like fried food when we left. Bowl of cereal for supper. read more
