Josephine's is one of those bars that I driven past many times in my life but never stepped inside of. I corrected that recently when I dropped by on a Friday night. The place is interesting and its not entirely clear where the entrance is. Once you find it alongside 22nd St, you go into an entryway and then down a few stairs, passed a trophy case and into the basement bar. It definitely has the feel of being someone's basement because it is. Above the bar sits a house. The place is old and you can tell once you enter it but it's still kind of cool with its dim setting, christmas lights, creepy doll heads and pool table. The wallpaper across from the bar was like an 1890's Parisian style. The tap beer selection was limited to two options from what I could tell. One was Budweiser or something similar and the other was Boulevard Wheat. They also had a full bar so I imagine the bartender, Frank, can make just about whatever you wanted. Speaking about Frank, he's one of the friendliest bartenders I've ever encountered. I learned that he's been there 40 years. I suspect this place used to be a lot busier but on this evening, we were the only one's for a while. Maybe the closure of Malara's across the street hurt their business as I'm sure the prevalance of new bars downtown and midtown. I really hope this place can return to its former glory because its such a unique place in Omaha. In some ways it reminds of Homy Inn. Definitely pay it a visit and have a chat with Frank. read more

It's all true. Josephine's is the place I would go if I were trying to hide out, but still for some reason needed to get out to the bar for a whiskey sour. I liked the quiet atmosphere of the place, until someone plugged money in the old jukebox and it sprang to life, filling the tiny space with noise. Josephine's reminds me of the Homey, but without the crowd (so don't tell anyone...) I will return. read more

Think about a neighborhood bar before sports bars with 27 tv's took over. This is a great spot in Omaha to spend a few hours relaxing. The lounge chairs at the tables are comfy or grab a spot at the bar and shoot the breeze with Frank - the bartender/owner. Frank treats everyone who walks into the bar like family and the vibe extends to all his customers. Everyone at the bar is happy to chat. Frank will make you any kind of drink you want and check-in that you are happy with it. You'll learn something new about Omaha with his sage-like knowledge and he's a fine listener. It's like drinking in your creepy uncle's basement. Dark and dingy. The walls are lined with knick knacks and trophy's from the owner's (I assume) high school glory days. Unless you are trying to hide out, I wouldn't go here alone, but Josephine's offers the perfect space for a party or small get together. The owner/ bartender is very accommodating. Bringing in food is never a problem and he'll even let you put your own CDs in the old school jukebox! read more

Locating this establishment is not difficult. It's in a quiet residential neighborhood not far from downtown Omaha. You can't miss the giant lit up sign directing you to the bar of your dreams! Walking into Josephine's is like walking back in time. The 70's style decor hasn't been up dated in decades and I love it. Josephine's is never busy so it's a great change of pace if you want to go out with a group of friends or just have a quiet night out with one or two friends. No lines, no loud atmophere, no looking for seating, and nobody trying to take you home. If that's the kind of night you're looking for, head down to 22nd and Pierce! Josephine's Cozy Corner awaits you! Frank, the owner and bartender is super friendly and knows how to make just about anything. Best-kept secret in Omaha! Great drinks, awesome atmosphere (it's like you're having a secret high school party in your friend's parents' basement, only you're 40), and Frankie is the best/funniest bartender in Omaha. This is the type of lounge I want to hang out in. With an old school jukebox whose tunes range from out-of-date Now music compilations to Elvis to Vanilla Ice (which was sadly played three times in a row when we were there this last weekend) the atmosphere truly is cozy. Beers/PBR's are pretty cheap and you're almost guaranteed to have the place to yourself if you if you stick around long enough. Frank is a fun bartender, there's pool and almost always some bizarre old school comedy playing on the tv. Higher recommend for a intimate night with some great friends for conversation! read more

Away from the popped collars and make-up caked faces, this is my escape from the chaos that I've come to despise as I've gotten a tad older. The second I walked in I knew it would be my new go-to hang out. "Cozy" is in the name and that is the exact word I would use to describe it. It has a warm, low-lit, inviting atmosphere. Frank, the bartender, is a friendly and easy guy to talk with. There are plenty of places to sit and a pool table to keep you busy if you want to get up and move around. There is also an old-style jukebox that plays three songs for a buck but lights up the place with nice sound. When I want to be a maniac, I go downtown. When I want to relax and enjoy conversation with friends, I go to Josephines' Cozy Corner. read more

We came upon this great neighborhood bar one night after dining across the street at Malara's almost eight years ago!! We were greeted instantly and made to feel at home by the owner, Frank!! He is really friendly and loves to get to know his customers!!! You may recognize him from the Godfather's commercials!! He makes great drinks and will happily make anything you ask for!! He has an old fashioned jukebox that everyone enjoys playing!! There is a pool table and pinball machine if you want to play some games!! Take my advice and stop down for a drink and say hi to Frank!!! read more
