He order the uniquely named Steak and Potato salad. It's not potato salad. It's an excellent blue cheese and horseradish dressing in a salad with beef chunks. He loved it. I ordered the Famous Buttermilk Fried Chicken Salad. The buttermilk chicken was very good but I forgot how the buttermilk can make it taste a bit sour. The salad dressing, was delish! The deviled egg was unique in that it had a liquified flavor of some kind filled in each half an egg. The service is right. Not amazing but friendly enough. The setting is comfortable. Well first off the place was empty and second the customer is always right so seat the customer in front of you first! Server was very friendly and was very helpful. Timely ordering and kept the water glass full. Place had good ambiance inside and out. Played good music outside on the sidewalk seating area. Food was delivered in a timely manner. Everyone raved about the country fried bacon. The quality vs value was pretty good on the appetizer but it was a 6 out of 10 at best. The dipping gravy was way too thin, add some flour!! Went to Twisted Fork in Omaha for lunch with a group of 6 and the experience was pretty underwhelming. Service set the tone right away -- our waitress was clearly in a bad mood and not pleasant at all. No energy, no effort, just going through the motions. Food timing was messy. Five people got their meals way before mine showed up, and overall everything took way too long coming out of the kitchen. I ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich. It wasn't terrible, but definitely not good either. The chicken tasted more boiled than anything, and the only "heat" came from what seemed like a heavy dose of Tabasco rather than actual flavor. We also got fried pickles as an appetizer -- those were just bad. Undercooked, soggy, and honestly looked unappetizing. The rest of the table felt the same -- food was just so-so across the board. Nothing memorable. Only highlight? The sweet potato fries were actually pretty good. Oh and the decor was ok. We visited Twisted Fork during Omaha Restaurant Week, and there were a few hiccups in the meal, but overall they are a nice option to try out in the Old Market. We had a truly bizarre conversation with the hostess when we called to ask if we could get a table for two. She literally for maybe five minutes just went "uhhhhhh" and "ummmmm" - she could have just said no, we did not need all the theatrics. We did end up getting a table, and headed there. The decor and ambiance is very similar to Stokes and Stokin' Goat, which makes sense, as they are part of the same restaurant group as Twisted Fork. Lots of uplighting, taxidermied (fake) animal heads, and tufted couches and cute vases. The restaurant week menu at Twisted Fork included a starter, entree, and dessert for $30 each. My husband and I both chose different options for each course, so we could both try two different options. My husband started with the Orchard Salad, and it didn't come out before the entree arrived. In fact, it still didn't come out for quite a while after we notified them. The server was very apologetic, so I don't blame them. I knew they were busy with the restaurant week crowd. I had the Flautas for my starter, and they were pretty similar to the ones at Stokes, so no complaints there. Crispy ends and softer middles, perfect flautas. For my entree, I had the blackened salmon, which came with hush puppies and a drizzle of remoulade. The fact that it was "blacked" made it pretty dry for salmon. And the hush puppies were gigantic and hard to eat, unfortunately. My husband had the Bistro Tenderloin (this is the entree he completely finished before his salad came out). He enjoyed the protein portion itself and the whipped potatoes below, but it came with a kind of odd "tomato gravy" that was not very appetizing. Dessert-wise, we had the Brownie Sundae and the Turtle Cheesecake. Both were very good and large portions so we could share them with each other. That was the bright spot at the end of the meal. So overall, I'd say Twisted Fork is an okay place to dine in the Old Market, but I prefer the other restaurant group's offerings a little more (Stokes, Taxi's, etc) read more

I came to downtown Omaha to get dinner and walk around, during we happened upon this place on a Friday night. They weren't too busy which was nice, we were seated promptly, given menus and water and time to order. After deciding on an appetizer (artichoke spinach dip) we called it good. After tasting the appetizer we decided against ordering here (reason below), so we went to 'Eat the worm' instead. The trade off was worth it. Cost and flavor wise. Regardless, staff was kind and prompt, the place was clean and well staffed, food appeared quickly, and staff stayed on top of their work. *The appetizer was not my favorite/my dates favorite. For some reason it tasted like refried beans had been mixed into it, giving it a grainy texture and cheap bar food smell. Neither of us finished our portions. read more

Not a bad spot for dinner when in town. The deep fried bacon intrigued me, so I started with an order for the table. Not super flavorful, but I appreciated that it wasn't greasy. The meatloaf was very dense, thinly sliced and served not quite hot with a rich, dark gravy. I felt like I got a meatloaf that would have been more "alive" at a 5pm seating, rather than an 8pm. I was so impressed with the food and service during an unexpected drop in during happy hour recently, that I had to return for the "full enchilada " and enjoy a dinnertime dining experience here. They once again, did NOT disappoint. The pot roast sandwich was super flavorful and the chef accommodating at holding the bread (as I am GF). Surprisingly for a bar n grill they offered not only wine and spirits but also a tasty selection of specialty hot teas. The vanilla choice was lovely. My family decided to stop here for dinner during our stay in Omaha, and we weren't disappointed. This restaurant looks for the vibe of an upscale, cowboy-style saloon, and I think it does a great job of filling those shoes. We got lucky getting one of two tables left with a walk in, as many of the tables were full due to reservations. Definitely come early or reserve a table! The food was great, with an excellent, creamy risotto and crunchy brussels sprouts. Chicken was good and had a nice crust, but I could use a few more pieces on my plate in comparison to the sides. Service was okay, but we didn't get checked on much and I wouldn't say it was anything special. I used to come to twisted fork all the time when I lived downtown. We would have drinks and eat the charbuffed wings which were so good! I'm sad to see that they don't have those on the menu anymore! The fried pickles were actually pickle spears much to my surprise but I love pickles so this was the perfect ratio of fried to pickle for me. He said it was okay, but not in his top ten. He loved the fries I shared from my grilled cheese sandwich and fries. The fries had a coating on them that added to the flavor. I liked the four cheese sandwich. The grease factor between the fries and sandwich was pretty heavy though, so it was a hefty meal. Garlic bruschetta bread ($7, happy hour pricing): The bread was sad, not toasted, not warm, and one of the slices wasn't even a full slice (you can see in the back it's half of one). The booths are a little dirty and run down but kinda fits the saloon theme. Our table didn't get wiped down when we sat so it was kinda sticky which was a little off. The drinks were good but not memorable. The fried pickles were great. I had a pork chop for dinner and it was solid. Not the best I've had but serviceable. I would probably check out other restaurants I haven't been to if I was back in Omaha, but if you're looking for a solid dinner this is a good choice. The area is normally at a higher price point - but this location is probably at the higher end of the value. So that was nice. We went for brunch at 11 am, which was right when it opened. They do reservations which are nice because most places in the area operate on a "first come, first serve" basis. Location - It is in Old Market and is walkable to most of the downtown attractions. As such, you have to be worried about parking. So, give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes to find parking and walk to the location. Chicken and tater tots - the meal was solid but nothing special. The chicken-to-bread ratio was about 5/4 So, you will have more chicken than bread which is ideal. The chicken didn't have any special flavoring, nor did the bread. Therefore, it is a standard dish that I would get again, but I would probably explore it because it wasn't "OMG" level. The tater tots had a good amount of pepper flavoring. But, nothing special. Why not five stars? - It wasn't that special. It is a good spot, and I would gladly go back. I would recommend a few other brunch spots to friends who come into town before this spot. Pro tip: make a reservation prior to going, especially during peak brunch hours. read more

I have visited Twisted Fork a few times and have enjoyed the food and atmosphere there. Yesterday's visit didn't meet my expectations. It wasn't terrible, just disappointing compared to previous experiences. We asked to be seated outside, and I think we were forgotten about a couple times. We got our drinks but it was a long time before we were able to place our orders. I ordered the Buck's Fried Pickle Burger and a side salad with ranch. You can see in the photo that it came out with sweet potato fries instead of a salad. My feeling generally is that if a place gives me something that doesn't match what I ordered, that must be because this thing is better. And I have to say those sweet potato fries are fabulous and probably the best I have ever had. The reason i hadn't ordered them in the first place is because at other restaurants they aren't usually that good. The pickle burger...it was fine, I wouldn't order it again. I really love pickles, but I generally avoid ordering pickle items because they are a letdown, really. The only thing pickle about this is a couple fried pickle spears on it. And those are good - I got the fried pickles on a previous visit and they were probably the best ones I have ever had. But (maybe only pickle lovers will understand) this just isn't pickle enough. On a regular cheeseburger order at many places, it comes with pickle slices and maybe a spear too. So overall, this burger tasted less of pickles than most burgers would. Just give us some unfried pickles, too, and maybe think about replacing the lackluster tomato jam and gloppy cheddar cheese with something that compliments pickles? There just wasn't much flavor going on here at all. The biggest issue was the iced tea. I had one glass of good tea, then my refill was this murky and bitter glassful. I didn't drink it, and my server agreed that it didn't look good. I don't know why they would think this was ok to serve and it makes me question the attention given to food overall. On a previous visit, I had ordered the meatloaf with Mac & cheese etc and had also asked for a few pickle spears (unfried). This is a great spot in the old market! I've never had to get a reservation but you might want to with a larger party. I usually get the Gouda Mac (which is phenomenal) but decided to switch it up to this time. The grilled cheese (minus bacon) was great! I love a grilled cheese with tomato. I got the sweet potatoes as the side which were SO GOOD! A few of them were under cooked since they were so thick cut but other than that I am obsessed. Will come back just for the fries!!!!
