Pros: view, location, scenery, trails (although need updated); affordable. Cons: outdated, wait staff and kitchen staff was practically nonexistent on Sunday (with a full house); again outdated...the hotel needs major updates and removal of old furniture and carpeting. Overall, not a bad stay...and a nice environment...there's just a lot of work that NEEDS done.

So we had a rough start to our stay uere that the staff fixed. Luckily they did which made me happy. The view from our room was amazing but i wish it overlooked the lake. Theres plenty of stuff to do. Kayaking Pool Game room Golf Mini golf Restaurant Bar Basketball Tennis Now ill go into detail of each Mini golf was amazing with a 18 hole course and plenty of challenging holes The game room was pretty awesome with plenty of games and ping pong for free Pool is small and kinda sad. Wished it was bigger. Same thing with the gift shop. Restaurant had decent food but food took forever to come. The restaurant also has the best view on the balcony Lake is a beautiful man made lake with picture oppurntinities for days Didnt go to golf or basketball So the room... The room was a decent size with a small tv and old school ugly carpet. The bed was nice with some rocking chairs and a killer balcony. Dont smoke anywhere near buildings as they willlll charge you 250 if caught. That sucks. Bathroom was decent and i like the shampoo dispensaries. Our neighbors were a family of like 20 and it sucked because theyd wake us up daily and you can hear a decent amount of noise from rooms and hallways. Has a ice and vending machine. Great ac and nice to open the windows at night. Clean and quick to service. Overall i was sad we didnt get a view of The lake from our room so i dont know if id go back. Id probably rent a cabin before going back to the hotel as i was sadden by the view. Staff was friendly

I'll start by saying the grounds are beautiful and it could be a very nice place. Perhaps at one time it was but not any longer. We stayed at the hotel (more like a cheap motel). It is in desperate need of repair and rehab. The railings and room deck areas are rotten and failing apart. Definitely a safety hazard. The rooms were sub-standard. Dirty carpet, basic bedding and the sink was actually not in the bathroom. It was just outside the bathroom. We originally booked our stay for 4 days but we checked out after the 1st night.

Another tasty meal at Alpine Lake! With a new menu, the chef is bringing more healthy options and also new fish and vegetarian delights. Generous portions await diners who can enjoy either indoor or alfresco dining with a fabulous view of the lake. The cheesesteak sandwich is a hearty meal with a heaping serving of lean meat and dressed with cheese, peppers, onions and mushrooms. Even a hardcore Philadelphian would enjoy this! The rockfish po' boy contains an abundant serving of fish with lettuce, pickles, tomato and lettuce. Homemade tartar sauce was a perfect condiment. Both meals came with a side (we chose the yummy vegetable slaw dressed in a vinaigrette). Service was prompt and courteous. Drinks never wanted for refilling.

I was disappointed with my stay at Canaan Valley Resort. As someone with disabilities, I found the…read moreproperty to be less accessible than expected, making it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. One of the most frustrating moments was at dinner. Our tour group was told we could not sit by the windows and enjoy the view because we were "with a tour and not paying customers." Considering many of us paid nearly $2,000 for this trip, that was insulting. We were also not allowed to order from the regular menu and pay ourselves if we wanted something else. Unfortunately, the meal provided left me sick for going on 2 days. The resort itself also had several maintenance and convenience issues. The ice machine on our floor was broken, the snack machine and soda machine was nearly empty, and the shower had VERY poor water pressure. The gift shop closed before 7 p.m., making it impossible to purchase basic necessities when needed. There was also very little to do in the evenings. The pool closes at 8 p.m., and by 7 p.m. most activities and amenities seemed to be shut down, leaving guests with few options other than returning to their rooms to watch TV. Overall, the resort did not meet my expectations, particularly regarding accessibility, guest experience, and customer service.

Tube Park Review…read more This review is specific to the Tube Park. Highly recommend getting tickets ahead of time online. All sessions for the day were sold out when we visited. The lodge area for the tube park is very small, so don't expect to be able to change clothing quickly inside due to how busy it is. There's a fire place inside and a huge fire pit outside. Very small concession inside with about 8-10 small snack items to choose from. The staff here are top notch - very kind to each other and talkative to visitors. 10 minutes before the session starts, the group gets a safety briefing and reviews the rules. There's a nurse/medic on site. This is fun for the whole family. 1200 feet long and very fast. Be sure to read the requirements online for kids. Extra safety precautions are taken onsite for young kids.

This is my first visit in over a decade and the first time not during ski season. The hotel was like I remembered. The restaurant and bar are different than my last visit. Sadly, I can't report on those because they close at 8pm. Even on Friday & Saturday nights. Wisp needs to change that for weary travelers who want a beverage after a long drive. They did do an excellent job handling our group and catering our lunch. The group dinner was given good marks by my colleagues. Upon arrival, I noticed how run down things seemed. The parking lot was in bad shape and there were piles of stuff just hanging out behind different buildings. I couldn't tell if they were renovating or what but definitely not how I envision a "resort". I was not shocked to find that the mountain coaster was out of order. Went with the vibes I was getting. We pivoted and rode the lift to the top. It was a beautiful ride, we saw some animals and lots of interesting plants. Once at the top we hiked around a bit and watched some people do the white water rafting. It wound up being an ok time for my family and I despite the coaster being down.

Regular price of $80 seems a bit steep for this place but I understand that you're in a sort of "resort" town so... Most of the courses around here are actually rather expensive. In fact, this might even be the cheapest one! The layout is certainly unique. The idea of having six part 5s and six part 3s and six part 4s might sound somewhat interesting but... In the end, I kind of found it annoying. (Call me a purist, I guess?) By far, the worst thing is the pace of play. We had a couple groups ahead of us on the front nine that were ridiculously slow. The starter kept sending out twosomes and it just back things up. Two groups behind me actually quit before getting to number nine... One of them quit on whole number five. It was better on the back nine when the groups in front of us quit. The starter didn't seem to really know what he was doing. And there were no Rangers. I understand that rangers can be annoying... But an almost three hour 9 is ridiculous. Another thing that's really worth noting... The hills are somewhat significant, and the carts are legitimately not great with their brakes. Like... Seriously not good. And somewhat surprisingly the management seems to be aware of this. They even gave me a heads up. What's even weirder, is that the newer carts actually seem to be WORSE! Coming down the cartpath after green on hole #five, the pro actually warned me to be careful.... And I honestly was trying to be incredibly careful! And I STILL almost flipped the cart! The brakes just give out! It's like you have to pump them or something... But it wasn't just there... Anytime you were going down a hill on the course, there was no guarantee your car could stop. That's insanity! So the course was in good enough shape... And the greens were actually in really surprisingly good shape for the most part... ((though the greens on the back nine are surprisingly small)) ... my biggest problem was the golf carts... Just straight up unsafe. ((Legitimately... If you're healthy enough to walk the course... Do yourself a huge favor and walk it. It's much safer!))

The pro then asked my name, pulled out a list and double checked it. He was very rude to the gentleman working there. They raised the cost of the 7 day membership from $300 to $750. Jacked up the cart fees $20 more than last year and $30 more for guests. You now have to get a bucket of balls from the pro shop to use the driving range which is included in the membership. You are no longer allowed to bring your own Gatorade, you have to purchase it from the course. Here's the real crime. Hot dogs are $8, a 20 oz rootbeer $4, a very small bag of chips $2.50. 4 hot dogs with chips and one root beer $50. You get a 15% discount with the membership but I was told that don't apply at the shack after the 9th hole. So $50 for 4 hotdogs and to add insult to injury the hot dogs were cold and the rolls were stale. Rocky Gap has made it nearly impossible for the locals to afford to play the course they've been playing since it was built, then to prohibit bringing a Gatorade or a snack so they can rape you with their products at absorbent prices and serve the food cold. This outing was a slap in the face from checking in time and just got worse as the day went on. The course was in decent shape other than the bunkers which were horrible and some construction on hole #7, its temporarily a par 3 during construction. Despite the efforts of the golf pro to be as rude as he can, we had a beautiful day and enjoyed golfing with good friends. The greed of our local golf course of so many years is truly shameful. Most of the seniors I know can no longer afford the membership and the $55 fee as a guest limits them to one round a year if they're lucky.
