We have extensively traveled as a family. We had my adult children, their spouses/significant others and the grandkids. There was 12 of us and we all agreed. This was the best vacation we had been on Who would have known? I had never heard of it, and it was chosen because it was the same driving distance for all of us. We stayed in a short rental home but spend time at the Alpine Lodge. We swam in the indoor pool, rented canoes and also spent time at the lake/beach. It was so quiet and quaint. It was like Gatlinburg, but without the crowds. It is great for hiking. It's a hidden gem. Some might say the lodge was dated but it was clean. We liked that it was simple and quiet. Our reservation was mixed up, there was a renovation going on right before the Labor Day weekend and the rooms smelled like glue. We have gone to Alpine Lake many times over the last fifteen years. There used to be affordable cabins rented through a realtor and then the resort. They turned them over to VRBO and the prices have doubled. Went in 2022 but won't go back. Restaurant is hit or miss and wasn't open on Sunday night in July. Local places closed too. The lake is beautiful and the golf course we like. The rest sucks. Don't go. read more

So we had a rough start to our stay uere that the staff fixed. Luckily they did which made me happy. The view from our room was amazing but i wish it overlooked the lake. Wished it was bigger. Same thing with the gift shop. Restaurant had decent food but food took forever to come. The restaurant also has the best view on the balcony Lake is a beautiful man made lake with picture oppurntinities for days Didnt go to golf or basketball So the room... The room was a decent size with a small tv and old school ugly carpet. The bed was nice with some rocking chairs and a killer balcony. Dont smoke anywhere near buildings as they willlll charge you 250 if caught. That sucks. Bathroom was decent and i like the shampoo dispensaries. Our neighbors were a family of like 20 and it sucked because theyd wake us up daily and you can hear a decent amount of noise from rooms and hallways. Has a ice and vending machine. Great ac and nice to open the windows at night. Clean and quick to service. Overall i was sad we didnt get a view of The lake from our room so i dont know if id go back. I believe 2 stars is generous here but it was, for the most part, clean. This "resort" saw its heyday many years ago. Everything is dated and needs repair. Room was advertised as overlooking the lake but upon checking in, was told the rooms that overlook the lake need to be remodeled and are not available. Instead, the rundown building overlooking a sad putt-putt course is where we stayed. When walking into the room you can visibly see the sunken in beds, which, as expected were very uncomfortable. There were no bed bugs that was could see, so that's a plus considering it gives off a bed bugs vibe. Tub drains very slow and the anti slip grip is peeling and brown in color. Door did not feel secure when locked and you can hear every movement outside the door. We had great service at the restaurant however the food was on par with the rest of the resort. Did not go back the next night. You definitely get what you pay for here. I will not come back or recommend to anyone else. read more

First the Course: Between the mountains and the lake, the views are beautiful. The course is horrendous. The fairways are okay, but pasture grass, with some bare spots. The greens are atrocious, with large patches dead from disease. When the move the cup, the old location is not properly repaired. It's obvious they don't treat or water the greens beyond the practice green. It is certainly not worth $53. Management: As others have noted, the older couple managing the clubhouse are rude and incompetent. Customer service is completely lacking. There's no course marshal even if you call for assistance with slow play. It took 3 hours to play 9 holes with no remediation (refund, raincheck), nothing. They failed to tell us there was an outing when we called to make tee times. Facilities: Antiquated and in disrepair. Good luck getting restaurant or front desk service. Non-existent. Overall: We won't be back. We typically play 6-10 times a year and purchase stay and play packages. We're done. We won't even give the stay and play packages to someone else because of the horrible experience with staff. Read the online reviews... nothing has changed for years. read more

I'll start by saying the grounds are beautiful and it could be a very nice place. Perhaps at one time it was but not any longer. We stayed at the hotel (more like a cheap motel). It is in desperate need of repair and rehab. The railings and room deck areas are rotten and failing apart. Definitely a safety hazard. The rooms were sub-standard. Dirty carpet, basic bedding and the sink was actually not in the bathroom. It was just outside the bathroom. Don't believe the hype! The views are great, but the rooms are in disrepair with no one to fix them quickly. The toilet handle broke and we have flush by lifting the tank lid and pulling from inside. The shower handle came off. The bedroom door did not close properly. The manager was not great. The cleaning staff were unhelpful when I explained the toilet issue. They gave me a plunger. Arrived November 14 for a 5 day vacation to celebrate my husbands birthday. What a letdown. Phone doesn't work. (No real problem. We have cell phones.) It snowed almost 2 inches today, and they closed the offices! The cleaning staff hadn't been told we were even here. But we did manage to get clean wash clothes. We went to the restaurant for dinner. No one at the front desk. And the restaurants were closed and dark. We ate potato chips for dinner! So we went to the basement to the lounge area. They have a pool table! What would be nice at this tired and dated "resort" would be signage. People waiting to checkout before anyone showed up to open the checkin building. Looks like you might be able to check out at the guard shack. Signs on parking lots to say what's an "upper parking lot" and what's a "lower parking lot". I would never recommend this place to anyone again. Either run this place like a hotel and resort or don't but what they have now a very 80's building and decor and very cheap mattresses. Another tasty meal at Alpine Lake! With a new menu, the chef is bringing more healthy options and also new fish and vegetarian delights. Generous portions await diners who can enjoy either indoor or alfresco dining with a fabulous view of the lake. The cheesesteak sandwich is a hearty meal with a heaping serving of lean meat and dressed with cheese, peppers, onions and mushrooms. Even a hardcore Philadelphian would enjoy this! The rockfish po' boy contains an abundant serving of fish with lettuce, pickles, tomato and lettuce. Homemade tartar sauce was a perfect condiment. We took our grandchildren up on the week between Christmas snd New Years 2020. and stayed in a friends house at Alpine. We used to have a summer home there. We waited more then 10 minutes by the sign at the restaurant that said wait to be seated. Finally we just seated ourselves. Only two other families there. We kept our mask on. It was clear at that point the lady waitress ignored us. When she come she threw the plastic Ware and menus at the table. She asked my wife if she knew how to read. Wrong thing to say. I let her know you don't talk to my my wife like that. She was very evil to me. Actually threatening me if she did give us food. With that we walked out. I called the manager who apologized to me. He offered to take us to dinner that night. I said no thank you. He promised to send us free dinning tickets With no expiration date. We never received them. It really was bad for our young grandchildren to see that but I explained to them this woman was very rude. Her name was Tiffany. She should have been fired. I will never return. read more

Stayed there for family reunion 8/13-14 2021 and what a mistake. We ended up with a pet friendly room that they forgot to clean. Bedspread on one bed was were the dog slept so instead of changing the flitty thing they just turned the dirty side down. The carpet was so dirty you wouldn't dare walk around your room in your bare or even stocking feet. The entry door had claw marks on the inside that looked more like a bear had been locked in there. We stayed at the resort last summer and booked through a private owner. We had a wonderful experience and couldn't wait to return. This year we booked through the resort. We arrived at Best Alpine cabin with our kids and dog, only to find that the cabin had not been cleaned at all. I tried calling Erica, the rental agent, no answer. Tried calling the manager of the resort, no answer. Tried calling the front desk of the hotel, no answer. I left messages but never received a call back. I then drove to the hotel and told the desk clerk the situation. She said she was new and wasn't sure how to help me because the rentals are separate from the hotel. She was finally able to get in touch with Erica who said she was getting in touch with a different cleaning woman to come and clean the cabin. I wasn't happy about waiting around for the rental to be cleaned and Erica offered two different rentals that we could move to. We elected to move to McPherson. Erica then said she would give us a partial refund because of our inconvenience. McPherson is a beautiful cabin and I was satisfied. HOWEVER, today I got in touch with Erica to ask when our partial refund would be issued and she is now saying she wouldn't be doing that. I am floored. This is not acceptable customer service. I think she just wanted to get me off her back on Friday and now she can do what she wants. IF we return to Alpine Lake, we will only book through private owners. Also, when I told Erica that we had a better experience last year, she said "you can book through private owners, that is fine." read more

We ate at the Resort twice during our stay. The first time we had a large party for lunch and the second time was a small party for dinner. Both times the restaurant was very slow. We had ok service but it was clear the servers had other commitments like setting the tables or putting out clean tablecloths that would distract them from following up with us after the food arrived. The servers were nice but clearly stretched a little thin. Most people were happy with their lunches but I would have to admit the dinner was much better. Most nights they have a dinner special which was wings the night we went. The wings were good but had a lot of sauce on them. We also got the flatbread pizza and it was by far the best thing we had at lunch or dinner. Any missteps in food or service are all forgotten when you sit on the back deck and watch the sunset. read more

My son owns a vacation home in Alpine. Three weeks ago we stopped at the lodge restaurant and ordered 2 orders of fries to go. Got them home and opened the boxes to find that each order was approximately 8 small fries. And each order cost $4.00. For $8.00 we got about 1/2 of a typical order of fries. We have never had a good experience at the restaurant. Every year or so they announce that the management has changed and now finally the restaurant will have good food and competent staff. But it never happens. Don't waste your money. read more

My family and I have been staying in Alpine at rental houses for over a decade. We have never had a poor experience. This year was the first year that we stayed at the lodge. It was extremely reasonable and surprisingly much nicer than we had anticipated. The rooms were very clean and nice. We also tried breakfast at the restaurant.. it was delicious! We couldn't finish all of our food and it was super low in price. Not that we would mind staying at rentals again, but we will definitely be staying at the lodge again! read more

Worst place I have ever stayed. Could have been okay, until at 9:30 at night trying to leave the pool on a rainy night with my baby we found ourselves locked in. No notice that we would be locked in. Finally found a door that was not labeled with a fire alarm to exit through and we found ourselves out back without a single light. We had to make our way up the stairs (did I mention this was a baby I was carrying) in the pitch black rainy night through a construction site of piles of lumber, extension cords, and an open deck (no boards on top, just the frame!) While carrying my baby through the freezing rain. Not acceptable. Then finding I had left something at the pool i called security who confirmed that the pool was open until 11, but that yes the doors were locked (it was not yet 10). Claimed he would send someone to let me in and did not. Room was dirty. Pubic hair on shower wall; clogged tub drain - even after I cleaned out the last person's hair; dusty curtains, lamps, fan, scalding hot shower water; breakfast is about 5 items in a dark room that you have to find on your own; the pool deck is a slick painted surface that is not safe to walk on when wet. I mentioned that my son had cracked his head due to the floor and the front desk staff told me it was because he was little, without expressing any concern. There are no pool towels, you have to bring your own. We were skipped by room service, so each towel was used for 2 pool visits plus showers over our 3 day stay. No one is at the desk other than a few hours a day. Stay away from this place. read more

This is a review for the restaurant at Alpine Lake Resort. We recently stopped in for a late lunch and early cocktail and sat on the deck overlooking the lake. We would highly recommend the chicken wings. They were fried perfectly with the right amount of crunch and the heat was well balanced. They "were finger licking good." The cocktail, a Margarita was perfect and at $4.00 it was more enjoyable then the $9.00 Margarita we had the day before in Virginia. A view, good food and drink and an accommodating staff, we found ourselves lingering to avoid the drive home. If you find yourself in this part of the country go - stop by - I do not believe that you would be disappointed. However, check their hours first so that you will not be disappointed if they are closed, since they do follow "seasonal hours." read more

Love this place. The view of the lake from the deck of the restaurant is outstanding! Simple, well-prepared fare. Had a delicious turkey Rueben. My husband really liked his flat bread pizza and the wings were very good. For breakfast, the veggie omelet was outstanding. We also stayed over at the motel. While it's not fancy, the beds are very comfortable and clean. Bathroom was also clean. Rugs could use updating but for the price, I'm not complaining. This place is a gem and frankly we are always surprised that it is not more crowded. Beautiful scenery, peaceful setting, and an attractive and challenging golf course. Our perfect place to get away for a couple of nights. By the way, I'm not sure why the listing has 4 $$$$. The food is very reasonably priced. Somewhat Friendly Staff but the Motel leaves much to be desired. Dirty and outdated rooms were the very first thing we noticed and a comforter that had not been washed in the last 5 years or possibly ever. The sheets were a scratchy polyester blend that might be suitable for a dog bed but I love my animals too much to make even them sleep on something like that. We found an old set of glasses and an empty wine bottle left by the previous occupants. The only reason we booked at this motel was the fact that they advertised wifi available in all the guest rooms. This was not the case at all. Wifi was available in the room for approximately 15 minutes over the course of 6 days. My business structure requires I have Internet access for varied amounts of time every day and I was forced to cut my trip short due to the unreliable Internet access. I brought the issue up to the front desk twice a day for 5 days and they didn't seem to care at all. The only positive thing about our stay was the bartenders in the lounge. They were accommodating and helpful the whole time. We will never make the awful mistake of staying here again. read more

The pool is decent but that doesn't make things any better. The roads to this place are so bad that they seem like they are gravel. The food is terrible, well at least for me it was. Everything was ice cold and seemed like it was microwaved. The salad "dressing" was just globs of mayonnaise and the croutons were stale. The pizza probably wasn't even cooked for 2 minutes and the toppings just fell off of the pizza. They said that all rooms in the "lodge" were taken even though there are only 3 cars in the parking lot. Including ours. There is nothing good to do here and you won't feel like driving on 25+ miles of winding bumpy roads just to get to a highway. The workers here don't seem to really care about your stay. This place really ruins the lake. Just don't even think of coming here. You'll regret it. read more

The motel at Alpine Lake is disgusting. If you are used to staying in something that is owned by Hilton or Marriott, this is not it. I guess people come here to golf but to live here it's not that great. It's not a dog friendly community you can take your dog almost nowhere. There is a dog park but it is just a rectangle in the middle of a field, I have no shade at all and it's not a park, it's a fenced in rectangle. Alpine lake cares more about the golfers then they do about the residence.. residents cannot have golf carts personally but they are allowed to run around 3/4 of the property. They really care more about outside folks that come in to golf. There is only one bar restaurant and it closes as soon as you want food, 7 PM sometimes and sometimes 8. If you're a vegetarian there is nothing to eat except a salad. Because they don't care about the residence, when the golfers leave, the bar gets closed without any warning. read more

HANDS DOWN THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I showed up at security check-in and apparently my name was not on the list, despite me having received a confirmation email after I booked it. As such, I was not able to get in through the security checkpoint. EVEN AFTER I SHOWED THEM MY CONFIRMATION EMAIL WITH THE CONFIRMATION NUMBER AND PIN, THEY WOULDN'T LET ME IN. Bare in mind it was midnight at this point, and I had just driven 6 hours from my home. This hotel is located in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. No civilization around for miles. I had no place to stay that night. I had to drive 45 minutes to the next nearest hotel. The lady who was in charge of checking in guests left at 4 P.M that day. WHO THE HELL LEAVES A HOTEL CHECK-IN FOR INCOMING GUESTS AT 4 FUCKING P.M. Because she was gone, there was no way for me to prove that I was a registered guest. I cancelled my stay the following day free of charge. Even getting a full refund cannot take away the 3 hours I spent sitting in my car at the edge of a cornfield in 20 degree weather trying to figure out a place to go. I was LITERALLY stranded in the middle of nowhere. It is nothing but back roads and woods for 22 miles in any direction from this place. I cannot put into words how miserable my experience was that night. I STRONGLY recommend everyone stay away from this shithole hotel. read more
