This is Maryland's only ski resort. I have skied Wisp many times and always enjoyed it. Even when it's icy. This is my first visit in over a decade and the first time not during ski season. The hotel was like I remembered. The restaurant and bar are different than my last visit. Sadly, I can't report on those because they close at 8pm. Even on Friday & Saturday nights. Wisp needs to change that for weary travelers who want a beverage after a long drive. They did do an excellent job handling our group and catering our lunch. The group dinner was given good marks by my colleagues. I want to return to play the two golf courses and ride the alpine coaster. read more

During our time in Deep Creek, we decided to visit Wisp Resort. I was looking forward to visiting the Wisp Resort largely because of their mountain coaster. Upon arrival, I noticed how run down things seemed. The parking lot was in bad shape and there were piles of stuff just hanging out behind different buildings. I couldn't tell if they were renovating or what but definitely not how I envision a "resort". I was not shocked to find that the mountain coaster was out of order. Went with the vibes I was getting. We pivoted and rode the lift to the top. It was a beautiful ride, we saw some animals and lots of interesting plants. Once at the top we hiked around a bit and watched some people do the white water rafting. It wound up being an ok time for my family and I despite the coaster being down. read more

Had the opportunity to go snow tubing here with my daughter. First I would recommend getting the first time slot because the time slots are for two hours and overlap. By getting the first timeslot you get 1 hour with no overlap. The second is that there was two conveyor belts to go up, the one on the left was slower and kept breaking down leading to massive lines to go up. Third, go on a week day when possible! Fourth, 1 parent with 1 child can go at a time. No full families holding everybody together and hoping for the best here! Even with all that said, I loved this experience. We got to go down 13 times in the 2 hours we had and by the end my daughter was good. We might've even left before the full 2 hours because the lines started getting too long. read more

I have been going to Wisp for over 30 years, and haven't had to many complaints... however, we just returned and from a 5 day trip and my entire group was very disappointed. They had several lifts down each day including one of the main ones in front of the lodge, which caused huge backups with waits of about 30-45 min to get on. Then they were out of pizza, water bottles, etc etc. You go into find a seat in one of the YURTS and you have families who leave all of their belonging on the tables while they go ski, treating it like a homeless camp. You are forced to go sit outside in the snow, WISP should put up signs that say eat and pack up, it's just consideration for other families. TO get a drink you have to wait in line with people ordering food, have a drink station next to check out.. Simple things they need to get under control, as people are paying a lot of money to come there. read more

The ski resort is very nice but the snow tubing is not. I had a two hour segment of time to snow tube at the resort. The resort was functioning with five employees at the snow tubing area. The tubing lifts were both operational, but only one was in use and the line was 30 minutes long. I asked the manager why the second line was not in use and he said because it was so cold that they had to have the employees on 15 minute shifts. It was 4 degrees and the employees were well clothed. well, they should've done a better job scheduling because there were five employees sitting on their phones inside the lodge. Manager and staff was extremely rude to me when I asked them. If I could give this a zero out of five stars I would!!! read more

Ski review! One week before this trip we rushed to order ski lift/rental passes when we realized they were almost sold out. HIGHLY recommend ordering tickets well in advance, we only had the option for a 4 hour night pass + rental. The passes were pricy, but well worth it for the nice runs. We ski once a year, we definitely aren't professionals. I really liked the green trails because they were very long and the views were spectacular. The bad thing is that EVERYONE was congested on the trails when we first got there. This was scary, but we managed to not take anyone out. As the night progressed and it was dark, I couldn't believe just how dark the slopes were. This could definitely be a safety concern, especially for people who haven't been there before. read more

I can with ease cross skiing off of my bucket list at this point. My husband and I decided a couple weeks before Christmas that we would take our family on a ski trip just a quick getaway. We got a very great rate for our room and in my opinion the resort is a great bargain. We arrived a little after 5 PM and we checked in. There are several reasons I am dinging them a star one is because of the check in being so late. However the grounds are lovely! They have a good size indoor pool that you can use year round. They also have a great sitting area downstairs for families to come on down to and play board games. The rooms could definitely use some upgrading however I did feel like for $114 a night my family and I were comfortable and have plenty of space to include two TVs and two separate living areas. For me this is fine however I'm sure that most families can agree the upgrading would be a bit nice. The resort itself has a wonderful skiing set up at least I thought so. Although I didn't do much myself I tried it for a few minutes Fell and decided this isn't for me. However the Children seem to have a wonderful time. They skiied for a few hours actually. The ski instructor we had whose name escapes me was wonderful he stayed with my children and a few other people for almost an hour and was happy to give tips it was super super helpful. I really thought that you only get that kind of attention with a private lesson not a group lesson. He was great I really wish I remembered his name. Came here for a Winter getaway and vacation with the family. The resort hotel leaves a lot to be desired....but "Boy-oh-Boy" the snow grounds, skii school, views and skiing activities here are so much fun and not that expensive either. It snowed all weekend so that helped it really feel like we were at resort in Colorado or Utah, considering it was Maryland! :) The Ski school was fantastic! The staff were very friendly and so patient. They took their time to make sure everyone got the hang of it being beginner skiers and no one was left behind; including the highly-challenged big guy amongst mostly kids who kept falling.....not saying any names, but you can assume it was me! lol. The resort itself is bit dated and the food just ok, but there's lots of surrounding restaurant choices nearby. If they updated both of those areas the price and overall experience would be top notch....a 5 Star Yelp review for sure. The only other issue we had was the process with getting your rentals at the ski rental booth. There were young adults and older teens running it. And, they were slow and seemed less then thrilled to be there. But, once we got our ski equipment and got outside....it was a fun experience from beginning to end. Overall, we had a really great trip and would definitely return to WISP for the outdoor ski activities, but we all decided that we will rent a house near the WISP slopes or somewhere near another main attraction here in this area, such as the Deep Creek Lake. read more

Nice skiing for beginners. But dull for the experienced. Lifts are slow and frequently stop. No foot rest on the chairs, which is uncomfortable. Way too much flat terrain and even uphill terrain. Instead of the main lifts radiating from the lodge, there is one 200 yards from the lodge and another 200 yards further. The few black runs are short, and then you're back on the slow lift. The arwa gets more snow than competitors at Whitetail and Liberty, but Wisp is hardly worth the drive. read more

This place is an understaffed, worn out, complete dumpster fire. For starters, don't try to book anything online. The website doesn't work. That leads me to a phone call....if you'd like to remain on hold for thirty minute, go ahead and try. In person? Good luck there too. We have been to the Wisp Resort once in the summer and once in the winter, and we have a good time. We enjoyed snow tubing during the winter, and were able to get in 8 slides in a two hour slot during a weekend. I would recommend to go snow tubing during a weekday for 4-hour session instead of 2-hour session for a lower price. During the summer, we enjoyed the mountain coaster, gem mining, and the obstacle course. These were all great even though it was a bit pricey. The biggest downside? For the love of all that is holy, fix your freaking parking lot. With all of the people coming, there is no excuse for them not to reinvest in their infrastructure (equipment, buildings, structures, etc). It looks run down, and there is no reason for it to look like this. We did not stay at the lodge, but we have stayed a related Will of the Wisp. Will of the Wisp is a great spot, and we will go back there. TL;DR: We have fun at the Wisp, but they need to freaking fix their infrastructure. read more

We went snow tubing here and it was so fun! We went on a Wednesday so got to snow tube for 4 hours for the price of 2 hours so definitely recommend that! It was also not busy at all so we never had to wait in line! I only took away one star because the ramp that took you to the top of the tubing hill broke down twice during our session and we had to walk to the top of the hill on foot, but other than that, super fun experience! read more

We visited the Wisp for some early March skiing and snow tubing. All tickets must be pre-purchased online this year. This policy allows them to regulate crowds. The lines at the lift were not too long on Friday evening for night skiing. They still had a 36" base. The lodge is cozy and well equipped. They have some fairly standard food options. The lost and found people were really helpful when someone in our party had lost a car key. Today, I went back for snow tubing. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon, and the lines were long. We stayed for a few nights for a work event last month. It was evident that it was off season. Getting to the rooms in the "old" part of the hotel was convoluted and maze-ish. Without luggage carts, this was a trek. The rooms were dated and needing repairs. The vanity top inside the bathroom was cracked and broken on the ledge. Ceiling tile was spotted from water leaking. A Jack Daniel's bottle wrapper was found between our bed and the nightstand. I mean, party on, Garth, but if the aftermath could be cleaned up before renting the room again, that'd be a plus. We had just enough towels but only found a front desk person at the post upon check in, check out, and once when I bought a $4 - 20 oz Diet Coke, so we just made do instead of hoping to track down more. The conference hall was nicely set up, and each meal provided was delicious and more than plentiful. The dining room staff was super sweet and pleasant. The bartender in the on-site bar was phenomenal. He and the meals/dining staff stole the show. Our conference coordinator had difficulty getting in touch with someone when we had issues or needed assistance. They had to play with the mic system and switch to hand-held because there was no one around to come to their aid. I get that it's off-season, but for the cost of the rooms, I expected a whole lot more. I didn't use the pool, but it was open. Large and indoor and several cohorts put it to use one evening. read more

Our group of 7 had a very nice time at the resort, which is very close to restaurants and bars as well as a grocery and liquor store. It was also about a mile from where we stayed. The staff were extremely conscientious about how we can maximize our value by allowing us to purchase a three-pack of mountain coaster tickets and use among three people. They also allowed one of us in our group to exchange the ropes course for a mountain coaster ride after a change of heart from one in our group. You do have to fill out standard waivers before participating in any activities, as expected. For a Sunday morning around 10:30am, I was surprised that there were no lines for either the ropes course or for the mountain coaster, the two activities we participated in. The mountain coaster was initially scary but ultimately tons of fun. It is a single-person cart for which you control the speed, somewhat. It's good for children and adults of all ages, so bring the kids and the grandparents. There are some scary--well, thrilling--turns. It's about a 5-minute ride (maybe longer, I didn't time it). I rode twice! The ropes course involved only about five or six sets of obstacles, but it took about 45 minutes to complete. Only one person is allowed per obstacle so you have to wait until the person ahead of you is safely on the next platform. The instructors were youthful, energetic, and informative, conveying safety with humor. You can zipline from one obstacle to another but that's less fun. When you reach the end, you zipline back where you started. I recommend both of these activities! read more

My review is for the summer activities only. I took the family for the adventure park to ride the mountain coaster. Upon arrival, we saw various lines in different areas. We walked up to the building to purchase tickets. Fortunately I looked at the website ahead of time to get an idea of what to expect. The signs inside indicate the prices for each activity. It's pretty expensive (a single rider one time down the mountain coaster is $19; double rider is $24). I opted to get the 5 option pick and choose pass for $79 because we were able to use the same pass for all of us. We loved the mountain coaster and would have gone more times if it wasn't so expensive. We also did the scenic ski lift which was pretty cool because they let you get out and walk around at the top before deciding when you want to catch a ride back down. My only recommendation is that they add large signs to indicate what each activity is. read more

A group of 8 of us went for friends getaway trip and we were pumped to be going! Some of the group never tubed before, and it was perfect weather with a light snow coming down! The night before the weather was freezing rain so the lanes for tubing were really slick so one of members kept banging into the barrier gate they finally put more Matt's down after 2 other people hit into the gate really hard. I know it's the weather, but Matt's should of been out from opening! There was little to NO instruction aside from "go" at the top of the lanes. Workers were not engaged with any of us or even making the experience fun. Chatting amongst themselves we had to ask multiple times could we down yet. I've been tubing other places and the energy is just felt way off here. Finally we decided to ride the mountain coaster, we all went purchased a ticket and went to ride! When we arrived the staff went over the rules that barely anyone could hear... I asked again "how do I make it go and stop I couldn't hear" the response I get from a child working ... "you don't listen, your asking the same question!" Excuse me..... but workers are young, uninformative & rude. Running the entire experience. I don't know if we'll be returning back to Wisp. read more

Excursions are 4.5/5; management is about a 2.5 at best. I visited the Wisp Resort to celebrate my best friend's birthday a few weeks ago and while we had fun, the journey my friends I embarked on to have said "fun" was long, cold, and annoying. We waited for nearly 1.5 hours (this how you KNOW I LOVE my bff) to ride the snow coaster because they randomly decided to send off 1 person at a time (20 min approximately) despite having enough 'room' in between coasters to socially distance. It wasn't until someone else on got on staff that they realized the long line needed attention - and they managed to load people 25x faster than before. Amazing - too bad my fingers were dead at this time (I need better gloves - western MD is COLDDDDD!). Thankfully, the fun on the coaster we had cancelled out any annoyance with the wait time. Snowtubing turned out to be a mixed bag - some of my friends loved it; others hated how the snow ended up in their faces. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try out every excursion (despite paying for it) because the excessive wait time and mismanagement from staff. I hope that their crowd management here continues to improve - I'd actually think about returning if it does - and I"ll bring better gloves next time. read more

A lovely little getaway! We took advantage of their mid week specials. It was not crowded and much cheaper. To stay overnight, ski lift, rentals and a lesson was $114 per person skiing. If someone is coming who is not skiing they can stay in the room for free. It was a great deal and a great place to introduce our kids to skiing. It is not fancy but everything was clean. We got a queen suite room for same price and it had a separate room so we could put the kids in their own room. The pool was warm! read more

Simply put, it could've been better. My family and I visited in the summer to check out some activities. We tried archery, and after that experience, we'll never go back. First off, the place seems to be run by teens and 20 somethings who don't have a clue how to run things. We booked a 30 minute session and our 'instructor' was 15 minutes late. When she finally showed up, she indicated she had no clue there was an archery session. She asked for help from a fellow colleague to move a target, who essentially mentioned he didn't want to help. It was jokingly said, but it really wasn't. Then she cut us off 5 minutes early after seeming super bored throughout our time there. I can't speak to the condition of the rooms, but if there anything like the service we received, of the lack thereof, I'd probably guess we wouldn't want to stay there. All in all, it was not worth visiting. It certainly has potential, but looks like it's being run to the ground by ineptitude. read more

My only skiing experience is at Wisp, so I can't compare it to other resorts in the area. However, as a beginner, I'm glad my first experience was here with friends who visit frequently - and prefer it over other locations. As a first time visitor and total beginner, the check-in process was a little confusing. You head to the main lobby and show them your purchase for the weekend (day pass/two day pass, rentals, etc) and then they give you safety forms. You take this to grab your shoes, skiis and snowboard. While it was easy to navigate to the different areas, no one really asked or explained exactly how it all worked. Maybe it was due to own naivete, and resorts operate this way, but it just seemed pretty "free for all." I am assuming it would have been different if I paid for a lesson. The runs were really fun and everything was gorgeous blanketed in all that snow. We came and stayed through the weekend, so Saturday was crazy packed and you had to avoid running into someone everywhere you went. Super cool seeing the experienced folks taking on the black diamonds. While we didn't stay on the property, we spent time in the cafeteria and bar area. This could definitely use a facelift - it was very dated and reminded me of middle school outdoor ed. If you are looking for apres ski vibes, save that for the rental home you're probably staying in. read more

We went snow-tubing. A sh*t show. Completely disorganized check-in. And after you check in, you go against the flow of people to get to the bottom of the lanes to get your tubes. Other places have them on your way out of the tubing so people going in can pick them up easily. There are not enough employees to safely manage people and that caused an incident. A kid took off without waiting and took out a group of kids like bowling pins. People were *trying* to go past the end of the lanes to the fence. They were talking about it and planning it. And not one employee said or did anything about it. My son, less than 10 years old, was a step away from getting hit. If he'd been one less step forward, he'd have gone down, it was that close. Instead, his tube was yanked out of his hand. The dual conveyor belt seemed efficient at first, but it made the top crowded. The ride was FAST. So fast, you flew at the top of the bumps. Don't get me wrong; I love fast and I loved the air time. But in order to stop before the end and not careen into other people (because I'm not an ass), you had to dig your feet in. My boots were destroyed. The bottom of the boot was torn off. This place was super crowded per pre-COVID metrics, way too crowded for being in a pandemic. My daughter and husband report they saw an employee at the top just left his post to head down the hill with no one to take his spot. Parking lots are NOT plowed. Be cautious driving and walking!! Not their fault it was SUPER cold, but with that, asshats, and the crowds, we left with half an hour to go in our time. read more

This review has two parts. This past weekend, I went with a small group to check out snow tubing and skiing/snowboarding offered by Wisp. Snowtubing: 2-3/5 stars. The place was so crowded, and although we paid for a timed ticket (for two hours) they never checked if we had a pass (we were told to just keep it in your pocket), and there were definitely people who stayed long past their time was up. They did not stop the sessions in between or monitor who was supposed to be there. This resulted in VERY long lines even during COVID when they were supposed to be operating at a limited capacity. So if you do go, you may not even have to pay the $34 to snowtube since no one bothers to check at all! Or at the very least, get an early session and stay as long as you want (sarcasm here... a little bit). Also, the staff working were more interested in flirting and talking about their upcoming tinder date than monitoring when people could go (I say this mostly jokingly, but it was a little annoying at times when the lanes were totally clear and the person was just waiting for staff to stop talking to each other to tell them to go). The actual experience was fun (good tubes, fun trails, and the magic carpet lift that takes you up was kind of fun), but due to the long lines and staff not paying attention I had to dock some stars. Skiing/Snowboarding: 4/5 stars. We had a few in our party who had not snowboarded or skied much, and had to rent. The rentals were very reasonably priced, especially given it was on the resort and not at some place nearby not affiliated with wisp. In fact, the rental prices at wisp were cheaper than local alternative options. Wisp is a great mountain for beginners. Lots of fun green slopes that are not too steep. We had great snow too. However, the lines were crazy long, which seemed odd given they were supposed to be operating at a limited capacity due to COVID. The back side of the mountain wasn't as busy, but that definitely was a little frustrating. I've seen shorter lines during normal times. read more

I used to live out there, so I go skiing at least once a year. Every year, I'm impressed with the resort improvements. This time, we had to purchase non-refundable, no -transferable tickets due to COVID-19. I think that's a horrible policy as plans often change that are out of one's control- especially now. This particular day, it happened to be -7 degrees with the wind chill. Needless to say, it was cold and even though there was snow, many of the trails weren't open. I really hope they change the ticketing policy, soon! read more

Visited to do the Mountain Coaster, one of the few in the region. The parking was free (always a plus), and the process to buy a ticket and sign a waiver was quick. A nice long ride up the lift takes you through the trees and up the mountain, and the way down was quite fun. Unlike some of these installations, they were spacing out riders so I never saw another one in front or behind me, although this did lead to a longer wait to get on. $14 is a fair price for the whole experience, and I would happily do it again in the Winter with snow on the ground. read more

Stayed at the Lodge at Wisp resort. Way overpriced! Nice location, but the room was very dated. Mattress was stained, toilet needed to be flushed multiple times to work, no working ice machines. Also no housekeeping. They also did not disclose pool was broken. Only one restaurant open with limited menu and hours . There parking lot was just a pot hole filled gravel lot. My car now needs to be cleaned. If this was a $100 a night hotel, but at north of $200 definitely a skip! read more

Always a fun time getting to come to WISP to play a round of golf. The 37 hole golf course is amazing and truly one of a kind. The staff were very welcoming. It's always a fun day when I get to wear my fancy polo shirt and slacks I bought from the Walmart back in the 1980s. Love WISP Resorts golf carts. They run very smoothly. We visited the Wisp Resort Mountain Park during the summer to ride the scenic chair lift and the mountain coaster. We arrived when it opened, and there was already a line going for the coaster. There is a building where you enter to purchase tickets for the activities you want to do (there are also ropes courses and disc golf). A free playground is conveniently located near the mountain coaster line and the ticket building to help keep the little ones entertained. There was no line for the chair lift, and we hopped right on. The view was very nice - we could see the lake and there was wildlife around. When we got to the top, we hopped off and walked around. There were more views visible, and there's a whitewater rafting set up there too. We watched a raft head out on the course, which was neat to see. When we got back down, we got in line for the mountain coaster. It took over an hour to get through the line, which would have been understandable except there were lengthy windows of time when no one moved at all. I'm not sure what was causing the issue. When we finally reached the front, it was a great ride! It went up to about 28 mph, and the separate cars were driven by the rider (or the adult rider in the case of adult/child pairs), so it could be braked as desired or needed. We would have gone again if the line was moving more quickly. Fun rides! read more

Fun place to ski! We stayed (Thurs-Sun) at the Resort and love that it's pet friendly (dogs up to 40#). While we weren't completely dissatisfied, there were quite a few areas that cld've been buttoned up. My comparison is to Wisp Resort before the multii-million dollar "upgrade" or remodel... * The overnight stay prices have skyrocketed (don't go by the prices or specials listed online). The rooms are cramped and layout was off. We had a mini fridge & no microwave. The TV in the sitting area wasn't in working order, but was fixed the next day. * DO NOT EAT ONSITE! The ONLY place to consider eating is at the DC restaurant, located in the back of a bar w/ the MOST unfriendly customer service bartender that we have ever encounter in hotel. Every other eatery located onsite was WAY, WAY over priced for the quality and quantity of food being sold. Not to mention, that communication want a huge obstacle. * Communication was a BIG set back. About 85% of the employees, while VERY friendly and eager to please, barely spoke or understood english. We learned that some were Russian, French-Canadian, Hispanic, and Middle Eatern. We appreciated the diversity, but when trying to get service...it can be very, very frustrating. * The Resort had a VERY wide variety of activities on-site, but the hours of operation coincided with ski hours. So you'd have to choose to do one or the other. We wld have loved to do an escape room, swimming, soak in the hot tub, drink at one of the bars, etc. However, the chairlift closes at 9p and so do most of the activities and amenities on-site (or just an hour after). Finally, the lobby & check-in area was a mash-up of poorly executed ideas, that were prevalent when there were more than 20ppl in the lobby, trying to get to elevators, get assistance at the front desk, maneuver thier luggage cart, use the disability doors, get to restrooms, or get to ski storage area. read more

If you are a fan of winter sports and live in the mid-atlantic esp. The washington DC metro area... You ought to come to Wisp! (1) So much more affordable than the rivals (ski liberty, whitetail, roundtop, etc.) but with... (2) Equal in the services (skiiing, snowboarding, tubing, even coaster) and amenities (locker room, dining hall, snow gear shop, etc.). (3) Plenty of trails and lifts that criss-cross the mountain resort *one thing I do admit, is that the main lodge/facility does not look as nice as the rivals A mountain all day all access package Sunday to Friday was only $69. Versus about $130 to go on a sunday at the local rival ski resorts. I will indeed be returning to the slopes of Wisp! read more

We came here for a wedding and I was super disappointed. Our room had a musty odor and was very outdated. We were located on the first floor and for $170 a night I expected a much nicer resort. I was extreme frustrated when I complained to the front desk and she only refunded me $70 for our two night stay. I will never be staying here again. read more

This review is ONLY FOR THE ADVENTURE area in the SUMMER (not the hotel) My family of 20 came here last Saturday afternoon, and have been planning on going ziplining ever since we planned the trip to DCL. But it rained shortly after we reached, and the staff told us that the Flying Canopy zipline course was closed. For what reason? I have no idea. Who says you can't zipline in light rain? Anyways, we ran out of options because all of the other dry activities was for kids and chose the Mountain Coaster/Chairlift combo for $24 per person. First of all, the chairlift shouldn't even cost money. That thing should cost like $1 at the most because it literally goes up/down so slow and there's nothing to look at when you reach the top of the mountain. However the Mountain Coaster was a fun time, I personally think it was way too expensive for just 1 trip, the price should have been for at least 3 trips minimum, but my family had a great and thrilling experience. I feel like we wasted so much time on the chairlift that even if we wanted to do the zipline afterwards, we had no time. It's hard to imagine what this resort would look like in the winter time, but summer time activities are alright. read more

Wisp Resort - Mountain coaster! - Ski Resorts Near Me - McHenry, Maryland

Pre-lockdown experience. In hindsight, I should have known that 2020 was going to be on some bs when travel to western Maryland in late fall produced warm(er) temps and zero snow. Considering the location, I came here expecting mountains, snow, skiing, snow boarding, and other sorts of winter delights. Climate change had other ideas. So, what to do? Pivot. You pivot. And, because we ran into some very cool employees at Wisp Resort, that's just what my crew did. Rather than engaging in wintery shenanigans, we opted for some disc golf and roller coasterin'. For some reason (I wasn't in charge of negotiations that day), we weren't able to play the disc golf course BUT we *were* able to rent the discs. Review of what we did with said discs to ensue.* Before we decided to hit the road with our loaned discs, though, our host declared that we needed to hit the Mountain Coaster. Now, I worked at an amusement park when I was a teenager. The experience made me never want to go to an amusement park again. It makes no sense to put your life in the hand of a disinterested, distracted teenager making minimum wage. Roller coasters are heavy machinery and should be operated with care and concern. My Cassandra-esque pleas were overruled by the rest of the group and we got in line for the ride. The Coaster is just what it sounds like: a self-controlled glider you steer down a mountain. You control the speed but we all know that when doing anything with a bunch of men, you can only go one speed: fast. This didn't make me caution-leaning heart happy. I decided to go last so as to pump the brakes if I needed to. Also, this is a family-friendly spot so my need to scream sailor-like curses would have to be stifled. I got in the Coaster. Put on my seatbelt, tried to listen to the instructions but I heard nothing but impending doom. The (teen-looking) operator chuckled at my despair, hit the button and I started the slow ascent to the top. Since I was the last of my group, I'd heard my buddies race down the mountain before me. I thought I knew what I was getting into. I hit the top of the mountain and started down. 'Not so bad,' I thought. I gave the coaster some gas. Evidently, I did not pay attention to what I was doing because in no time I was racing down the mountain like a bat out of hell. With only a strap of fabric keeping my inside, I was sure to topple out of the trap at blinding speed. I cursed. Loudly. I am not proud but certain things must be done. As I wrangled with my speed demon of a coaster, I raced to the end of the ride. I arrived to a legion of people laughing at me. Worse still, I had an action shot of me wide-eyed and screaming for all to mock as I arrived. Happy to be alive, I let it all slide and, if you asked me when no one was around, I'd tell you that the ride was a lot of fun. I might even do it again.** But before hopping on the Coaster, I want to give the other activities at Wisp Resort a try. Hopefully, the weather will be season-appropriate. I don't even know where to start with how awful this resort was. Let me preface this by saying we were staying there in the offseason for a large conference. Our group had over 700 attendees and more than 50% of the hotel booked, at least a year in advance. So they knew we were coming and had time to prepare. Check in was a nightmare for a large portion of our group. I travelled up with two other members of my group my room was ready upon arrival at 3:30 p.m. Their room wasn't ready for a couple of more hours, and upon checking into their room discovered they were given one bed when we specifically reserved rooms with two as this was a work event where co-workers were paired up. Management's response to that was that the couch pulls out and that should suffice as a bed for a 4-day stay. Others in our group weren't able to get into the rooms until after 7 p.m. Which is unacceptable. In terms of staff friendliness the housekeeping crew was phenomenal, they were very friendly and accommodating and personable. The same can't be said for any of the other staff. Overall the hotel was in poor condition, with most of it being under construction and out of date. Fixtures we're visibly crooked, broken or missing. Parking was also difficult and inconvenient. Nearly all 20 rooms that our portion of the 700 reserved, had issues to include no working AC, no working hot water, inoperable appliances and filth. My room had black mold in the shower which you can see in an attached picture, super awesome stuff for a pregnant person to be around. My favorite part of the hotel was the unsecured breaker boxes in the middle of the hallways accessible to anybody who felt like messing with someone else's room. Management offered nothing but excuses and no solutions to the ungodly amount of issues that surface. Another major issue was the hotel being seriously understaffed. Despite knowing the number of people attending the conference and being advised that a number of those people would probably eat at the restaurant and bars on location they never had enough staff on hand to accommodate. On one day the in-house restaurant only had one person working, the barkeep who is apparently expected to manage the bar and wait the 20 or so tables inside. They also had a second bar/eatery that remained shut down the entire time we were there. They lost thousands and thousands of dollars in revenue for that blunder as we took our business elsewhere. Rooms keys frequently failed and had to constantly be rekeyed. The entire building smelled godawful. The indoor pool was huge but they shut it down anytime there was even a hint of rain. The indoor hot tub could literally only comfortably fit 3 people. It was smaller than a personal home hot tub. What kind of ski resort doesn't invest in a kick butt hottub? Decor left a sour taste, the hall carpet had a design that looked identical to what concrete in the midst of construction/after carpet is ripped up looks like. We'll never stay here again. Will never recommend it and it has been black-listed by our organization for future events. read more

Wisp resort is HORRIBLE to work with and Max Hill is completely unresponsive when rescheduling reservations. Your better off going to whitetail ski resort. Additionally, wisp vertically drop is only 700ft vs 935ft at whitetail. Not to mention you have to pay over $10 in additional fees. Dont go tubing. We only got 2 runs in 2 hours. The staff opened the lifts at 5pm but they waited for everyone to gather at the top of the hill before anyone could go. We got to the top at 5:02 pm and got out first tube slide at 5:40 pm. The staff did not let anyone go for 30 minutes because the line was too long at the bottom of the hill. So then the entire crowd waited during the time we should have been tubing. Very poorly run, the manager does not understand how to operate the tubing. DONT GO FOR ONLY 2 RUNS IN 2 HOURS-THE STAFF FORCES IT TO GO TOO SLOW. boo! read more

Staff needs a few training lessons on giving guests the best experience. Restaurant on sight closes at 5 pm- but so does the mountain. Super weird. Maintenance couldn't care less about the guests- the ladies room near the food area off the mountain was out of soap for TWO days. I kindly let staff know more than 3 times about the bathroom soap situation where I was told on multiple occasions that maintenance is aware and would deal with it when available.
