What a find for this area, our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this charming restaurant. It was the best meal of the week during our stay at Deep Creek. The husband and wife owners of this establishment keep a small menu, for their small but impeccably run inn. The dishes we selected ran the gamut of the menu, mushroom soup, butternut squash bisque and a summer vegetable minestrone, followed by a compliment of tomato, cucumber, and onion tart salads, then munching on our tenderloin with Cabernet sauce and ending with a chocolate pate. All of it was delicious. This menu changes daily with the locally sourced ingredients so no promises this will all be available but I have no doubt you will enjoy whatever is. read more

Stopped here on a Saturday for dinner. The original plan was to sit outside but like Outkast says - "you can plan a pretty picnic....." Anyway - old house, one room for dining and a couple from France who runs the place. Old decor very antique which I liked. Ordered the potato leak soup, Caesar salad and beef tenderloin. The soup was good, liked the taste to it. The salad was ok, very light dressing but a good enough taste as well. The beef was very good - cooked nearly perfect medium, but the potatoes were very cool, not hot at all. Vegetables were good, and for dessert hot apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Overall I liked this place - I would recommend it and hopefully we can go back and eat on the porch. read more

I would like to make it known that I have been trying to plan a dinner here for quite a while and it just never ever could work for me. Of course, things start opening back up, weather gets nicer, its an open Saturday - and its freezing in May and raining and Etc. That's how life is, and thats how things go. But as long as you're surrounded by the right people, you still feel like a million bucks. The couple who run the establishment are wonderful and the food is top tier. I thought the beef option was honestly so delectable. If I could suggest maybe some alternative teas or sodas just so that there are a handful of more options. Staying here, or coming back when its warmer would be so nice. I think my family would like this place. The more things go on, the more i have a desire to impress. I hope to do my best. read more

We live in Washington, DC, but have a second home at Deep Creek Lake, Oakland, MD, which is about a 15 minute drive to the Deer Park Inn. We knew nothing about the venue until we saw a sign at the intersection of Maryland Highway 135 and Deer Park Hotel Road. We made reservations to dine and are so glad we did. We cannot recall a meal in DC as delicious as the one we had at the Inn. The Inn's dining room is a spacious, well-appointed Victorian era space. The hostess/owner was friendly and a joy to speak with. The menu had a large number of dishes from appetizer to desert. We both chose different meals and each portion was nothing less than fresh, served hot, well-made and spiced and unique. We will be going back. We will also be letting our friends and neighbors know about the Inn. read more

Sandy and Pasqual run this amazing place together and the love shows in everything from the flowers, the atmosphere and, oh my, the food. Incredible fresh local everything. Tonight I had a toasted corn and tomato salad, chicken picatta and chocolate sorbet. Everything was perfect. It's like dining with family..if you had a 5* french chef, super hostess, and really fancy china in a Victorian house among your kin. For years I went while vacationing, now I am lucky to call this area home. Yes it's pricy for this area, but given the options are Dennys, the local Mexican joint, or the contrived Steakhouses out by the lake, the Deer Park is always my first choice. They humor my cantankerous 81 year old Dad, who insists on playing the grubby mountain man part, as he polishes off exceptional French Cuisine with glee. I don't wait for special occasions, but do make reservations! read more

We were here during our honeymoon in early November. Worst dining experience we have had. The Inn is cute and quaint certainly. But it is an old Victorian house, so not a difficult task. They can't help the neighborhood,  but it is run down and looks terrible. The stairs have no lights, which is an accident waiting to happen. Walking in there were minimal lights on so we were not sure they were open. There is so much junk and clutter in every corner. The owner's wife (maybe) greeted us and took our coats. The dining area is one very small room. The decor was trying to emulate Victorian, but was really just awful. The fireplace was lit, but other diners were seated there. The fireplace was the only heat, as the wall units were not on. Service was extremely slow, taking a very long time to just get water. The 2 small slivers of bread we were served were clearly purchased at the grocery store a few days earlier, not baked fresh. They were also not toasted but barely warmed. The butter was so cold it never melted. It was also low quality as it had no taste. My husband got a broccoli and cheddar soup and I got maple butternut squash bisque. Mine was fine, but his tasted old, reheated, and had store bought shredded cheddar cheese on it. I ordered the roasted beet and gargonzola, my husband got the special mozzarella and tomato. My beets were paper-thin and pickled, not roasted. They were swimming in balsamic vinegar. Not horrible, but not what I was expecting. My husband received a plate of wilted romaine, 2 small slices of Roma tomatoes,  and a slice of store bought mozzarella. All slathered with balsamic. Definitely not what we were told and very little flavor. The mozzarella was absolutely Sargento, not local or in house made.  I got the Lamb shank and my husband got the petite filet stroganoff. My bowl had the Lamb, au jus, mashed potatoes, one small partially steamed baby carrot/zucchini/yellow squash, and two slightly grilled (yet still cold) slices of zucchini and yellow squash. Not one item was seasoned, and the lamb had the life boiled out of it. Then, for some reason, there was a small sprinkle of raw diced tomatoes again with no flavor. I honestly could not believe that a French chef would serve this plate. My husband's "petite filtet" was actually just very tough beef tips. He had maybe 5 very small cubes. He also had spätzle, of all things. It was old and extremely dry. It had not been made fresh. This was the point in the meal where another couple, having seen our plates, walked out without ordering. We could hear the lady having an argument with them as they were trying to leave. We were planning on desert but just could not fathom eating anymore of their food. My husband had to hunt down the woman for the check since she had disappeared.  He told her the issues with the meal, but her response was "we have never had complaints before." She finally brought the check, we paid and got up to leave. The pricing was in-line with prices in DC (where we live), but was way over priced for what we were given and for the area. After getting our coats, the lady asked me specifically what was wrong with the lamb. As I was telling her, the chef stormed out and began to argue with me. He blamed me for not sending it back. He said he has made the lamb for over 25 years with no complaints and I should have returned it and got it made to my specifications. The main thing it needed was seasoning. Salt could have greatly improved it. But he continued to argue. He said he tasted what I returned and found nothing wrong with it. Then he said "you know what's wrong with people in this country?" at which point we just walked out without letting him finish his insult. We cannot understand all the high reviews for this place. They were the reason we were so excited to go. There are many other much better sit-down restaurants in Deep Creek area. Just steer clear of this place. read more

A birthday meal at Deer Park Inn made our weekend at Deep Creek! On approach, the inn is something out of a film. Quirky yet quaint, with pretty flowers and a very nice patio. We hadn't made a reservation so we ate inside their Victorian style dining room. We were the only people in there and the classical music was a little loud, but it all added to the general atmosphere. Our waitress was lovely and welcoming. Susan made us feel at home but wasn't domineering throughout the meal. The bwana raved about the bread which is apparently one of their specialities, but all the food we had was great. Definite highlights I can remeber were the homemade ravioli and the zucchini wrapped around homemade boursin cheese. My main of duck confit was delicious, and we finished up with an orange creme caramel and a dark chocolate pate. When she heard we were celebrating a birthday, Susan ran back into the kitchen and returned with a candle which was a nice touch. Our expectations weren't so high but we left saying that it might have been the best meal we have had since moving to DC, and I doubt you'll have a better meal in Deep Creek. read more

Given the many wonderful reviews I was certain that my wife and I were in for a treat; sadly this was not the case. For starters the service was extremely slow and the server was noncommittal about the food. Telling me things are "very popular" does not help me. I was a waiter for many years and know the value of helping a customer find the right item. I gave my server that opportunity and she failed miserably. My wife and I had an 8:30 reservation, I received my first glass of wine at 9:40 just to give you a sense of the pace. My wife ordered two of the specials: a salad and lamb chops over corn risotto. I ordered be ravioli appetizer and the curried chicken. My wife's salad was fine but my ravioli were inedible. Firstly the sauce amounted to a 1/4 inch of oil in the bottom of the bowl. Secondly, I was told, practically warned, that they contained Salmon. I love salmon and was excited at the prospect of a salmon ravioli, but upon tasting I found them to be too fishy to eat. I ate only one of four ravioli served, but upon clearing the plate the server did not ask if there was a reason I did not eat my appetizer--another lost opportunity for her to do her job. When the entrees came my wife's chops were served on mashed potato with no risotto to be found. My curried chicken was bland and one note. I've had better in pubs in London, and if you are familiar with British pub food, you know that is saying something! We inquired about the risotto and were brought a bowl of corn and rice. I make my own risotto, a pretty good one too, what we were brought was not risotto. It had no creamy liquid binding it together and was mostly tasteless. I ordered the peach cobbler for desert hope that this might salvage the meal only to find our many minutes later that they were out of the cobbler. My wife said the lamb chops were fine, but for me the evening was a complete and total disappointment. I will never return. read more

Searching for this restaurant was a bit of a searching game; even stumbling upon it my friend and I weren't sure we were in the right place (not realizing it was part of a bed & breakfast) - but the result was certainly worth the search. The interior of the Deep Park Inn was elegant and charming. The dining room was a bit on the small side and sat a maximum of around 30 people. The service was wonderful - Susan was delightful and friendly. You will not believe how delicious the food at this place is. It is an incredible find and should be on every food maniac's radar. Everything is farm-fresh and cooked & presented with incredible care. Nothing comes off a truck -- the owner drives off to Amish market for produce and raises his own honey bees, among other things. There were more chef's specials than items on the menu the night we ate there, because the chef is some impassioned mad genius who whips up culinary delights in this off-the-beaten-track inn. We had items from both the standard and the daily menu. We had: homemade ravioli mixed salad with melted goat cheese and bruschetta beet salad with chevre confit of duck fillet of beef tenderloin peach melba and great googly-moogly everything was perfect. They bake a wonderful, crusty whole-grain loaf which is also worth noting. My only disappointment with the meal is that they serve standard foil-wrapped butter pats instead of real French butter, and the owner groaned at my comment and said she wished I had only asked -- they use excellent butter in the kitchen and would have gladly brought some out (they switched to foil pats on the advice of the health dept). We lingered over our meal for about 3 hours, talking with the charming owners and enjoying the period details of the dining room. Next time we are in the Deep Creek Lake area we are definitely staying here. I cannot imagine how glorious the breakfasts must be and the inn is in a lovely, romantic location. I am remiss in making this well deserved review... We ate DPI on July 5, 2013. The service, while slow paced, is excellent. Susan is a wonderful host and server and she adds the right amount of detail to your meal and to the history of the historic cottage. The ambiance is ornate and a tad a-la "hoarders", but created the perfect...je ne sais quoi...it's just right. :-P The food is TO DIE FOR. The french cooking is like nothing I have experienced. Each bite delectable and worth the price. It's not just a meal, it's a course, so be sure to reserve 2-3 hours. I don't believe there is air conditioning, so plan accordingly. I thought this place was delightful. With a properly paced meal served by the very friendly owner. The lovely GF and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals on the porch. The value was excellent as was the ambiance. I really don't think this place should be considered "expensive"....again...a very good value. Given there is a total dearth of VERY good restaurants in the area, this is must go to restaurant for those wanting a bit more than pizza or chain fast food. Well worth the short drive. This is an expensive place by Garrett County standards and a great value by DC standards. Our bill was about $175 all in. Two of us had soup, salad, and entrees. We shared a bottle of wine (on the high end of their list) and each had an eau de vie to finish out the meal. The warm mushroom salad was one of the specials we enjoyed and it was delicious! Everything we ordered was good and arrived at a relaxed pace. The meal took about two hours. The dining area is lovely and still has the original wallpaper and many of the original furnishings. There is a lovely French couple who run it. They are very friendly and enjoy talking about the house. I will definitely be taking friends here when they come to visit! We found this little inn so we could have a nice anniversary dinner. We were very happy with the results! You have to make a reservation. We did for 6:30 on a Tuesday and were the only ones there, which meant a private dining experience on the front porch. We were served by Sandy, who takes care of the front of the house. We enjoyed food made by chef Pascal. The food was excellent, from the butternut squash bisque, to the garlic mushroom salad and the main course of beef filet in a cherry wine sauce. My wife had the corn and salmon chowder and lamb for the main course. Dessert had fresh made vanilla ice cream. I had the profiterole dribbled with chocolate sauce. My wife had the blueberry cobbler. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. They get local food and even grow some of the produce themselves. We had a nice conversation with Sandy about the history of the house and the fact they have been running the inn for nineteen years. We will definitely go back! The inn was built in 1889 as a "cottage" for the architect of the B&O Railroad. It used to be across from the Deer Park Hotel, which was built by the B&O Railroad in the 1870s. Deer Park is the original source of Deer Park spring water and was made famous by the hotel that was there until 1929. They have the very same local spring water in the inn! read more

If you are looking for an intimate and quality meal, this is the place! Our average meal takes approximately 2 - 2 1/2 hours from appetizer to dessert. The food is excellent and the location is in a quiet area not too far off of Sand Flat Road. It's about a 20-25 minute ride outside of McHenry but it's worth it! My husband and I make a point to visit this restaurant every year when we come to town and we are never disappointed by the food or our experience. read more

A hidden gem. We ate here on July 2. Old Victorian house converted to a B&B with fine French restaurant. Decent wine list. Very quiet, not rushed. Crepe was a great appetizer. We both had very nice salad. One was the Late Summer Caesar Salad and the other was the Roasted Tomato with Goat Cheese. Both were good, but not sensational. Entrees were Beef Tenderloin and Tuna. Both were nicely cut and served with appropriate sauce, potato and grilled vegetable. Well presented and nicely cooked. Homemade bread was great. No room for dessert! We had duck minestrone soup and a caramelized tomato tart which was to die for. Our steak fillets were cooked perfectly and the sauce was the perfect touch. This review is for the restaurant. My wife and I shared a wonderful evening here on our recent trip to Deep Creek Lake. We were a little skeptical at first as the "restaurant" is really just a large old house out in the surrounding countryside. We had received a gift certificate, so neither of us had really done much research on the place ahead of time. We did have to make reservations, but in contrast to most places, the reason here seems to be that the business is just run by the two innkeepers and they need advance notice in order to make preparations. I'm not sure how typical this is but we were the only couple dining while we were there (which actually made it a much cooler experience), so I think in order to make sure the kitchen is stocked they need to know when people are coming. We had a lovely dinner sitting out on the front porch listening to the birds and taking in the nice view. Food was excellent, especially the skate wing (which I believe might have been a special that night). I can't recommend the Apple Crisp enough - it was a lovely finish to a great meal. Sandy (our host) was very friendly but gave us plenty of time to relax and converse between courses. As others have pointed out this is a slow-paced meal, so make sure you have plenty of time when you come. Went down the weekend of Oct 10th from Ohio for the Autumn Festival and for my wife to visit her family who are local to the area. Unfortunately due to our traveling schedule we weren't able to arrive until closer to 11pm at night. When we arrived the porch lights came on and we were greeted by a very friendly, smiling owner with a wonderful thick French accent. She told us not to worry about the formality of checking in as we would handle that in the morning. She showed us to our room and asked if we would like breakfast on the porch at 9 am? Yes please! The Bed and Breakfast was everything as advertised and everything we hoped for. Absolutely beautiful. Had a wonderful nights sleep and in the morning as promised we had a wonderful hearty breakfast prepared by a very talented chef from France with an impressive pedigree. As we ate the fantastic breakfast, all homemade, all fresh straight from the farm, the owner came out to talk with us and she shared with us some of the wonderful stories about the Inn's amazing history. Wonderful time. A hidden gem indeed. What a beautiful time of year to be in that part of Maryland with Autumn in full throat. Highly recommended. Nestled in the Historic hotel area of the Victorian village of Deer Park, Maryland, the Deer Park Inn is the gem of Western Maryland and surrounding West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The extraordinary restaurant is always, always a refreshing and pleasant departure from the commonplace. Wow, I was shocked to read the last review. I had a wonderful time at the Deer Park Inn. The rooms are unique and date back to almost to their original state, making for a truly original back-in-time experience. The rooms were very clean, as were the bathrooms, complete with a charming old school top flush toilet and original wallpaper. I woke up with beautiful sunlight coming through my windows, birds chirping, and a cool breeze from the mountains that was like if God turned on the air conditioning. I was greeted by a wonderful breakfast on the porch where I could be casual, and I enjoyed the wonderful mountain scenery while I ate a beautifully presented, freshly cooked, banana crepe breakfast with OJ and delicious coffee. After enjoying a day of horseback riding and boating at the lake, I returned to an elegant dinner setting with first class French dining and friendly service. Guests and servers alike were willing to engage in conversation and share their recommended dishes. Though the dinner was not cheap, it was worth every penny for the experience, company, and superb food which now leaves me craving more. I don't think this experience is for everyone. If you have a hard time turning off the tube and enjoying nature, having a moment to appreciate the past, and are fixated on fast food service... well then you are better off with Holiday Inn Express and a Happy Meal. What a delightful find in the woods and hills of Garrett County! We showed up with our young son and greatly enjoyed the elegant and comfortable surroundings. Every detail is pleasing: local spring water, period silver plate, old yet comfortable dining chairs, friendly and well-timed service. We had among us delicious braised leeks, crepes, lovely salads and onion soup for appetizers. The perfectly spiced cauliflower in flaky pastry I ate for my main course was outstanding. As someone else noted: no room for desert. We'll be back for dessert another time. Our waiter was informative and attentive without hovering. He engaged our six-year-old and made us all smile. To top it off, we offered up as part of our payment an expired gift certificate which the proprietor kindly honored. A wonderful wedding anniversary for all of us. read more

I'm a twenty-something who thought that this place would be an inexpensive (relatively speaking) get-away for my spouse and I. We wanted to go to Deep Creek Lake but didn't want to pay $300 a night or stay 30 minutes away. We love quaintness but there is a fine line between character and just plain crap. We should have just walked away when we started up the porch to find all the plants dead or dying. While I can appreciate the historical value of this hotel, I can not tolerate the fact that it is so poorly kept up. There is a dusty, mildewy smell that permeates everything, right down to the sheets. The decor most likely dates back to last century (and not in a shabby-chic kind of way) which gives the place a creepy feeling. I wouldn't have minded the decor so much if everything else had been cozy and comfy. The bed was despicable (plus the sheets stunk, like I mentioned). The window sills hadn't seen a vacuum since Eisenhower was in the White House. And don't even get me started on the bathroom (think one step above an outhouse). If everything hadn't felt so blasted old and crumbly, I could have appreciated the lack of conveniences but because that all sucked, it really bothered me that there was no air conditioning, no television, no internet, and no telephone. Breakfast was mediocre at best. It tasted like it had been made yesterday and reheated. And the water coming from the tap tasted dusty and old. Deer Park is a hole, in case you're wondering. If you're headed to Deep Creek, just stay in McHenry or another town closer to the lake. Just pay the money. You'll thank yourself later. I know I sound like a complainer but I can't overstate how terrible our night's stay was. If we have been paying $50 or even $75? Sure. It wouldn't have been so bad. But we paid $160 and felt very taken advantage of. In short, it felt like I was staying over at my aunt's house. And my aunt is 85, so.... read more

My husband and I just spent two wonderful nights at the Deer Park Inn Bed and Breakfast. We were greeted upon our arrival by Sandy, the owner, and felt immediately at home. Her warm personality and hospitality were exceptional! We opted to have dinner there our first night. We enjoyed a yellow and red tomato salad, hand made crab and spinach ravioli, and an apple crisp for dessert!.To say the meal was excellent would be an understatement! Chef Pascal had prepared everything to perfection! Everything was made following the order. All the food was fresh and presented beautifully. We dined on the front porch and enjoyed the natural beauty all around us. Very relaxed atmosphere. We had reserved the Campbell room. It was furnished with antiques and was spacious. The view from our bedroom windows was wonderful of the field and woodlands across the street. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom had plenty of room, and nice big shower. Breakfast on both mornings was delicious. Our first morning we were treated to freshly made bread with home made preserves, fresh fruit and a frittata. Our second morning was fresh bread with preserves, peaches with candied orange peel, and breakfast crepes. Fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee with both breakfasts. We were pleased with everything! Our second evening there, we had been out all day and got back later in the evening. We had coffee and dessert at the Deer Park Inn. We enjoyed fresh Peach Melba. It was the best I have ever had. I can't say enough how warmly we were treated. This was the perfect get away to slow down and relax. We were only 10 minutes from Deep Creek, and close to horseback riding and kayaking. The evenings on the porch at the Deer Park Inn were so relaxing. The perfect way to end the day. Do not waste your time here. We went for a rehersal dinner and I was shocked at how terrible the food was. Not to mention that the service wasn't great either. I'm not sure whether we were suppose to refill our own drinks, but thats what ended up happening. If we were suppose to then they should have mentioned it. The only thing that was decent was the ceaser salad which, come on how hard is that to make. Our menu consisted of a corn soup which had no seasoning, the salad, something that was suppose to be like a beef stroganoff but looked, smelled, and tasted like dog food, and 2 desserts that were so bad I tried one bite of each and stopped. My husband and I spent our first anniversary here. Slept there two nights, ate two breakfasts. The two owners (Sandy and Pascal) are the only people staffing the restaurant/inn. You may find the service a slower pace than you're used to, but if you go in expecting it to be a leisurely evening/weekend, you'll enjoy yourself. The service is personalized and they make sure they take good care of their guests. Over the weekend we got to know Sandy well and she was absolutely delightful! They made sure to accommodate my gluten free diet. The food was delicious and was displayed beautifully on the plates. The room was clean and comfortable (although no AC, there was a fan in the closet). She told us about great quiet spots where we could go to avoid crowds and she filled us in on the great history of the hotel and the area in general. The service was very personalized and Sandy and her husband were very pleasant and accommodating. The only reason we did not give this 5 stars is because the price was higher than we desired. read more
