Palisades ski rental was truly a great experience. The staff was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I skied with a group in their late 70s. They helped us with boots poles and skis. All worked and fit perfectly. The entire staff was very very helpful. I do have to give a high recommendation to Greg who guided us through the entire process and Florenza, who could not have been nicer. Thank you all you made our trip enjoyable. read more

Base to base gondola is working! Finally. Just hope it lasts. Found myself solo at Palisades with a very short line to the brand new (relatively speaking) gondola. The ride over is relaxing. Very quiet and scenic. First stop from Palisades you can get out and ski down. I wanted to go to the Alpine part of this resort so I kept on going. It seemed a bit more relaxed. Not saying it was because I think it'll be silly busy over the MLK weekend. Pretty convenient to go from one resort to the next without hopping in to a car. Will def. try this place out more just because access is easier. Only problem so far is that my locker (ahem, car...@ the former Squaw side) that had my lunch in it was kinda far. I paid for the afternoon ski lesson special here including a 2.5 hours group lesson, lift ticket, and rental and had mixed feelings about it. I liked Alpine Meadows as it seemed more mellow compared to Squaw Valley. It's smaller and easier to access. The group ski lesson took place on the bunny hill which was fine. But the lesson was hit or miss based on the instructor in my opinion. We got this Russian woman Lena as our instructor. I honestly didn't like her teaching style and also could barely understand her. As a result, I was falling (literally) behind the rest of the class and not making much progress at all. So they got me and someone else in the group a different instructor Big Al who made a huge difference! I really liked Al who was so friendly and encouraging. I also understood him much better and liked his teaching style. I was doing so much better after Al took over and started to learn very quickly. I was able to ski on my own for a short distance by the end of the class and definitely enjoyed my first time ski experience because of Al! Overall, my experience was positive. The staff here was very helpful and friendly. I don't mind coming back here as a beginner. read more

I hadn't skied Alpine Meadows in years. I bought a Ikon pass after Mt Rose closed for the year. But since Mother Nature just gave us six to eight at Alpine, I pulled the trigger on a 23/24 Ikon pass and ran up to Alpine Meadows today. What a great time I had, this late in the season I'm skiing untracked powder in the back bowls. It was like a dream, I did stop for lunch about 11:30, great lodge, huge facility plenty of seating in and outside. Great burger. The staff was next level friendly and welcoming, Made for a enjoyable first day back. The mountain itself is everything, for whatever level you are. Look forward to exploring it all. Couldn't be happier with the decision to buy the Ikon. read more

Review for the SKI SCHOOL / Ski lessons only. We had our 3 year old take her first ski lesson, after having "skied" a few times with me in our backyard. At $273 for a 2.5 hour lesson (over $100/hr) I expected more than daycare. She got 2 laps on the bunny hill, and 2.5 hours of sitting in the snow without the instructor even engaging with her. Full story: I wasn't skiing that day, so I watched the whole lesson from afar. She had boots on before the lesson started, but somehow it took 35 minutes of mostly doing nothing before the instructor picked her up and put her skis on. She did 2 laps down the bunny hill in about 15 minutes. Then a 45 minute break for graham crackers, then an hour of sitting and eating snow. She didn't even have her skis on for most of the day. Instead, the instructor seemed to be just kinda standing there, talking to other instructors a bit, while my daughter sat and looked around. In the last few minutes of the day the instructor skied a couple laps while carrying my daughter (still without skis on). I guess the instructor didn't want parents showing up to see the absolute nothing she'd been doing for the last couple hours. Other instructors seemed to be doing more, so your experience may vary, but for nearly $300, I would expect at least some effort when introducing a new child to the sport. I'm happy have a photo of my daughter skiing without me for the first time, and I'm completely disappointed with everything else. read more

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Alpine Meadows. I'd give more stars if I could. Every staff member we ran across was so helpful and friendly. This was our first time skiing and my son was able to do Achieve Tahoe. From the parking attendant (I think Karl...I wish I had remembered his name for sure) being extra not only friendly but making sure the path was shoveled around the handicap spot when we got my son in his wheel chair and also making sure to point out the elevators and give us extra info. The fantastic guys at the rental shop who were friendly knowledgeable and patient. Also the ski school my other kids went to. I would highly recommend this ski school to anyone it brought me so much joy to see how far the kids got by the end of the day and how much fun everyone had. The instructors were fantastic. It is rare to see such all around exceptional service these days especially on a busy day. I am already trying to figure out when we can return. read more

Alpine Meadows has been our family favorite for a long time. Gorgeous mountains, plenty of terrain, lots of vertical, comfortable base lodge, and friendly mountain hosts and staff make this our "go to" choice for skiing the Tahoe area. Be sure to get yourself to the top of Lakeview Lift. Stunning views of the lake exist there and it's a perfect place to get a group ski photo! And Sherwood Lift is smart to hit earlier in the day during spring skiing. That side of the mountain receives the morning sun and the snow softens up first there. The base lodge has cozy leather chairs and solid WiFi in front of a fire place for those non-skiers who want to relax. And the mountain hosts are friendly and helpful. Just recently, it started to snow during my ski day and I didn't have any goggles. I asked the mountain host what lens would be best for the conditions and she let me borrow the pair she had on her head! How awesome is that for customer service?! read more

I have been skiing at Squaw/Alpine for several years now. It has always been an amazing experience. Ski instructors Joel and Norman deserve 5 stars! Unfortunately, an incident occurred with one of the lift guys off duty and I attempted to report to his manager Lemon but received only some careless automatic response after calling several phone numbers. This was the best she could muster I guess. This person Pauly was flying down the mountain on the snowboard, he cut me and also a minute later he cut my husband. He then to our utter shock started yelling at us! My husband tried to explain to him that it is his responsibility to watch for skiers in front of him (common courtesy on the slopes). He then yelled "You were waving left and right". My husband again explained to him that this was called "carving" (you would expect person working in ski resort would have an idea what skiing is, right?) But, he is snowboarding and apparently never seen a skier before?! I saw that he had a jacket with Alpine/Squaw logo. I told him to be professional. He then yelled at me and I quote '" I will take your guys ski passes" and then waved with his right hand to lift guys yelling "Call the patrol". (like ordering 3 beers in a restaurant!) Threatening just like that!! When I asked for his supervisor, he said her name "Lemon" and the guy dissapeared suddenly while I pulled cell phone to get her contact info. Now, when I read other reviews seems like they do have big issues with staff training and basic social skills too. If a person training them, Lemon, is not able to address this behavior, I am expecting to hear from someone higher up. This is not just "feedback" this is a serious safety concern. Bought a ticket to ski the afternoon January 30 went up there early as they advertised that they were not responsible for a lack of parking . There is no way that that parking lots can possibly accommodate the amount of skiers they are selling tickets to. They were out by 10:30. Squaw was even worse. I talked to an employee who said Squaw was allowing 10,000 and Alpine 4500 people during Covid. On this day the employees were of absolutely no assistance. No useful information when I asked how to get to the TART station I saw no knowledge. The were good at asking people to wear masks beyond the sign that said wear mask starts here. That was it. I would not go to alpine ever again. I have been part of a ski club going skiing every year including 2020 February in park city. I will never come here again. read more

Nice smaller ski resort! Beautiful views of North Lake Tahoe. Since we got the mountain collective pass we did 2 days at the Squaw/alpine meadows dual resorts. The day we spent here was definitely lots of fun and the views of the mountain were gorgeous! The bottom chair lifts were definitely super crowded and there was lots and lots of kids. The lower runs were also super crowded. So we went over to the Lakeview side and found some empty runs especially through the trees. The advanced terrains were way better than the face runs. The food in the lodge was typical hamburgers, tacos, soups etc. very pricey and nothing tastes very good. I paid $9 for a small cup of chili and it was cold. The seating area was super crowded also. Better than Squaw for sure and I would come back on a weekday. read more

Sister resort to Squaw which I just wrote a 4 star review for, this one.. 1 star SOLID one star. Parking attendant guy was rude as well, made me park less than a foot behind my friend's car and when we explained to him that they needed room to open the trunk to unload says "DID I TELL YOU TO STOP?" wow okay CALM DOWN GUY, I explain to him that i'm just trying to make sure that they have enough room he responds with "they got room..." when they clearly didn't, honestly I think the guy was on drugs or high, he just seemed not fully "there" then we had to wait for a shuttle to take is up the resort since we parked int he lower hill area (which is basically this giant flat side of the road), of course the wait was forever since everyone was just making a b-line for the shuttle and there was no line system of any sort. Next- the resort itself is small, old, and poorly maintained. They only have 2 green circles and of course one was shut down so if you're a novice skier like myself I would recommend staying away for sure. My friends who are more advanced than me (black diamond level) said the tougher slopes were a lot better though and they were pretty happy with their runs. Overall though, crappy places, lift tickets aren't worth it, and horrible employees, never again read more

Everyone seemed really nice. The deck was nice, it had a fireplace going. There was plenty of seating inside and out. I wish there was a little more to do while waiting for your party. Came here on 1/1/17 for my very first ski lesson. I was with friends who ski there all the time. I bought a lesson ahead of time (might as well - you save $20!) and was pleasantly surprised when there was only one other woman in my adult group with me. The check-in process and rental shop for getting gear was run really well and everyone was helpful. I didn't want to pay another $7 for a locker for the day, so they said that I could just keep my boots under the benches in the shop. I was hesitant, but they were right - totally safe! (Would be nice, though, if you are already paying a lot for a lesson, that the locker fee was waived). Evan was our ski instructor and he was awesome. Skiing did not come naturally to either me or the other woman in our group, but he was really patient throughout the whole day. It was a lot of money for me, but I felt like it was completely worth it. I had so much fun and Alpine is beautiful. Lots of good options for lunch, but the lodge gets really crowded so plan accordingly if you have limited time for a lesson. Free Wifi everywhere inside. Plenty of bathrooms which were all really clean. Would love to come back! If you book two lessons during the season, your third is free. read more

My first impression of Alpine Meadows was: "This is a lot smaller than I thought." With an advertised area of 2000 acres, I expected something larger. (Northstar is 2400 acres). Maybe it was because a few lifts were closed, or maybe it was the large number of expert runs that were only accessible via long traverse (I was too lazy for that). But I like the place. And here's what I like: -- The nice, large, clean main lodge with a wide breezeway for a direct route to the snow; Sizeable all-day lockers for $7; A gigantic deck with fireplace area; And most importantly, no meandering through a big ski village just to get to the lifts. -- At least 75% of the terrain is intermediate or advanced -- $15 less than Northstar (adult lift ticket) -- Interesting terrain: frontside, backside, side-side, bowls, trees, groomed and ungroomed. -- The great views from the top of lakeview chair (Suggestion: a day lodge, with a deck, serving food, would be HUGE here!) As for dislikes: -- The food service wasn't well distributed. There were few food options on the backside other than hot dogs and bratwurst. The "mid-mountain" lodge was small, perpetually-packed, and wasn't really mid-mountain at all, being just a 2 minute ski from the main lodge. -- Only two, short beginner runs means I would think twice about bringing my youngest daughter. As for the newfangled, electronic lift tickets that allow for auto-scanning...It's a nice idea, but it seems more like an advantage for the resort than for the customer. I think I prefer having a lift ticket that isn't so easy to lose. Nevertheless, I plan to go back to Alpine Meadows, and hopefully this season. read more

Pretty okay ski resort. I've been here three times now. Once for skiing, twice for snowboarding this year. I have little recollection of my experience skiing on their blue square lifts...didn't make a big impression on me. This year, however, I only went on the green circles cause I'm a total n00b at boarding. Their soft snow minimized the pain of falling on my bum and my tummy all the way down the hills. Luckily, my helmet was not put into good use. The courses were pretty cool, though littered with cute puffy kids that I could potentially crash into. Half day tickets are $50. Not cheap! However, I boarded the next day for free because no one scanned my ticket on the first day. We are Asian. To quote my friend's dad: "If no one scans the tickets tomorrow, we can sell them!" They did scan them though. Line goes fairly quickly for beginner lifts, though the workers could do a better job of enforcing the alternating lines thing. There appeared to be a free overnight storage for skis. Now the FOOD is basically a Yelper's worst nightmare. The Meadows Cafe is absolutely overpriced and closed earlier than it was supposed to. Basically they double the price of everything...because they can. Expect to spend a good $9 on a little cheeseburger. First day I simply mooched off a bit of my friend's chili cheese fries...they were okay. Second day I gave in a bought fries for 3.50. A croissant--3.50 also. At least their water is free. On a sunny Saturday morning, this place was PACKED. Even though we got here at 9:30 AM we had to park about 2 miles out from the resort; hence, not far enough to take a shuttle and not close enough to comfortably lug our snow gear. The slopes were also quite packed with snowboarders and skiers. This is definitely not a beginner resort because there's only two "green" trails. The majority of trails are intermediate with a fair amount of black diamonds as well. It's weird because some of the intermediate courses are a lot easier than others, especially when the amount of people varies. For some reason when there's more people on a trail the faster everyone else goes in order to avoid each other. Ski lift lines were kinda ridiculous. A lot of teenagers anxious to get to the top of the mountain were annoyingly cramping my style. And what's with these ski lifts? They are super fast on takeoff. I felt like if I didn't sit down fast enough it was going to run me over. We had lunch up the mountain. There was a barbeque line grilling up some hamburgers and hot dogs. The line was a ridiculous thirty minute wait. The hamburgers were big and fine although overpriced. Seating was a disaster again due to the packed resort. The main lodge is quite large. But what's with the "Please no packed lunch signs"?? Is this is a movie theater? I thought all the resorts were trying to be eco-friendly? ___ Alpine Meadows is a fine place for intermediate and advanced skiers/snowboarders. But man, if it's packed, it's really dampens the experience. It feels like you're at the public swimming hole instead of the great outdoors. read more

We just went to Alpine this weekend and here are my thoughts: Cons of Alpine: - the rental employees and the persons directing the herds of people are inefficient and unprofessional. They misled us twice to the wrong area, wasted our time, and didn't seem concerned with any aspect of customer service. - the food is expensive and not good - the "greens" are STEEP! a lot of trees and random inclines. not good for a beginner. - the classes were too big and even though the adult classes start at 13 yo, one child got stuck in our class. Not cool. Pros of Alpine (thus the 4 stars): - parking is close! no shuttling around - John Franklin, our snowboarding instructor, was informative and helped us down the bunny slope area one by one to practice the heel/toe method. He is AWESOME! I would recommend him to anyone. - total cost for half-day class, full-day lift ticket and rental was $82 (way less than Heavenly ($160)). - lodge is cozy Would recommend to anyone who wants to try boarding but only after a few times. There were some good runs, but this place had a lot of flat areas which i got stuck on and had to unclip and walk. Under normal circumstances i think it would have been okay but since it was toward the end of the season, the snow was a bit slushy and made me feel like every snowboarder feels when the get stuck in the flats, "man i wish i had some ski poles right now!" I had to unclip so many times and walk i got really tired and worn out. The mountain was decent, but smaller than expected. Not worth the $99 lift ticket, but i did use a 2 for 1 voucher from Shell for filling up (10 gallons) so it was a good deal and worth that price. I'd have been pissed if i paid full price. There were some very nice scenic views which i enjoyed, but i was just so worn out at the end of the day. I think this place is more suited for skiers than snowboarders due to the flatter areas. I did like the RFID lift ticket system which i did not have to display or show to an attendant to get on the lifts, i just put it in my pocket and the automatic turnstile let me thru after it scanned me! Makes the line so much quicker and Easy Peazy! read more

On family ski trip, half had pre purchased passes, half had to stand in line for single day ticket... very frustrating as Alpine's computers and printers went down.. stood in line for over an hour and finally gave up, as we had another half hour to wait. Not worth investment of a single day pass after spending half the time in line ... Alpine's customer service could only come up w some watery hot chocolate to ease aggravated customers frustrations. Like Alpine's terrain, but management could have handled this situation more effectively. read more

Not a fan right now as I'm still in the beginner/intermediate phase of my skills. Alpine meadows have really tough blues for beginners and pretty much a blues paradise. Each time I've gone here I've been only able to do 4 runs and felt miserable each time. Alpine Bowl area says it's a blue omg the day I went it was steep and icy that it was pretty much a Black. Though proud of being able to skid my way down, it was just painful. Not ready for that yet. I'm sure for the experts out there, this place is heaven. For the beginners like me, it won't be super fun to go here. read more

Went on a weekend ski trip with 7 east coasters with a wide variety of skiing abilities. Alpine meadows really was the perfect resort for our group. When it rained our first day, the staff was very accommodating and helped us change our tickets. Despite heavy snow overnight, the roads were plowed and it was easy to drive right up to the resort. The rental and lift pass process was quick and efficient. Staff were again super friendly and helpful. We loved that there was such a wide variety of runs for all levels. We were able to ski on parallel runs despite our varying abilities and ride the same lifts. As a person who skis only a few times a season, I found some of the blue paths challenging but all manageable. The front side of the mountain had nice shorter blue runs that I completed easily, while the blues on the backside of the mountain were steeper and more challenging. We also loved how many runs they had and the ability to ski two days and constantly discover new runs! The staff at the lifts were also friendly. The summit lift and Lakeview lift were the fastest runs and led to good blue runs. Some members of my group attended ski lessons on Saturday. They had never skied before and really enjoyed the lesson. Their instructor was funny and helpful and even let one friend borrow his sunglasses! Overall. Would highly recommend this ski resort. I'd recommend purchasing tickets online the required two days in advance for a decent discount. read more

Again Alpine Meadows ski resort exceeded our expectations. We took lessons two days in a row. Our instructor Kat and Rob both were amazing. They were very friendly and professional. The resort was not busy at all on the weekdays that benefitted us so much. No wait on the lifts and group lessons end up private lessons. We were able to go to Subway and Meadow lifts. We will be going back for our third free lesson before it closes in July. This resort is far much better than heavenly in Lake Tahoe as far as pricing and customer service. read more

Beautiful ski resort right next to Squaw. It's always difficult to predict conditions so we really lucked out. It had snowed the day before and conditions were fantastic. We didn't really deal too much with staff or eat any of the food, so this review is more related to the slopes. I am a beginner skier and was very surprised at how difficult the 'blue' slopes were. We spent the two days prior at Squaw, which had many green and blue options for beginners, and while Alpine is smaller, it was a bit disheartening that the blues were so difficult, since there are only 2 very short green slopes. The best part about Alpine is the view from the top. It's a bit closer to the lake, so the views are absolutely breathtaking! read more

For being such a North-Shore powder hound, I don't really go to Alpine a whole lot, but after my last visit, I am scratching my head as to why not. It is an ample mountain that can satisfy just about every skill level, even the hardcore free skiers/riders. It has great views including that of Lake Tahoe itself, so effin' gorgeous! And it has a bad-ass spacious outdoor patio at the base to sip on beers in the sun and people watch, and it seems like reggae is on constant loop on the soundtrack, fuck yea! For advanced level powder hounds head to the Alpine Bowl chair, which is an old school double chair, which sucks, but worth the ride down. The Palisades on a bluebird day after a storm is quite the epic descend. Also all the runs off the Scott Chair are nice and challenging, especially if you like squeezing between rocks and trees. I wouldn't go here unless the snow conditions were right and fluffy. If hard and icy, this would be downright dangerous. Unfortunately the Summit 6 chair was closed the day I went due to supposedly high wind advisories, but it really wasn't that blustery up on top, and I've definitely skied way windier days at other places, so wtf, Alpine? I would almost give this place 5 stars if it weren't for their forked narrow parking lot, so the later you get here the farther your trek to the base will be. We arrived at 10:30 on a weekday and we had to hike over a third of a mile while carrying cumbersome gear, can't imagine if we would of gone on a weekend. Small price to pay for a decent mountain though, and with ticket deals at Costco, 2 for round 100 bucks, this should be a staple for my North Shore hit-ups, fo sho. read more

All the staff is extremely friendly and helped us out a lot. They took plenty of time answering what probably were silly questions from one rookie and one long retired skier. They also helped adjust our lift tickets after making reservations online. Not to mention, the active duty military deal is amazing ($50 donation for a season pass)! I skied most of the runs while my wife was getting new skier lessons. All trails were in great condition in the latter half of March and wait times for lifts was next to none (skied on a Thu). While I didn't have any direct interaction with any instructors, they seemed extremely attentive to students and polite to everyone. We're trying Squaw Valley tomorrow, and Alpine Meadows set a very high bar! read more

Great terrain. Definitely more affordable than the mountain next door. Getting more crowded over the years, though. Depending on where you're coming from you may need to adjust the trail ratings. I think they are weak vs. Colorado mountains (Keystone, Breckenridge, etc). The black diamond and blues are definitely easier than correspondingly ranked trails in CO. But hey we have slushier or icier conditions so maybe that makes up for it? Also, the back side isn't open as much as I think it should be (get your mind out of the gutter, huh?). I like Alpine more than Northstar and Squaw. I'm not a big fan of the swanky, complicated ski resort where it takes about 15 minutes to figure out how to get from the parking lot to the actual resort. Alpine is simple; walk up the hill from the parking lot and boom you can get on a lift and go skiing/snowboarding. I'm a beginner, so a little warning, there are only two very short greens at Alpine. The blues are apparently more challenging than other blues at Northstar and Squaw, so there isn't very much of a gap between super easy greens and harder blues. However my friends and I agree that after your first time, it's actually easier to learn on blues than it is on the easier slopes. The steep slopes helped me practice toe edge and were long enough so that I could avoid the stress of getting off the lift too many times. The lines were extremely short; I never had to wait. And once we got up on the blues, the runs are so wide that you really had plenty of room to practice and fall without being in anyone's way. I think Alpine is great for beginner to intermediates who are nervous about avoiding other people and want wide expanses to practice their skills. I'm definitely going back! read more

i'm a beginner snowboarder and this is not a great place for beginners. The green runs are pretty short and limited to maybe 2 lifts - one of which can get icy and barren if there's not enough snow. I would go to Northstar if you are a beginner. My other complaint is that they should have given me a discount on the lift pass because I had a Tahoe Card but they didn't. Lame. The outside deck is nice though and it's small enough that you can find your friends pretty easily. Parking is easy and the shuttle taking you through the lot was convenient. Good terrain and fun mountain, but staff has no customer service whatsoever. Never been treated so rudely by two of the staff, both of which treated us like we were five year olds. Probably won't return. read more

I took an intermediate Ski Lesson with Norman and it was great! It was only my 2nd time skiing and I felt like I made some really big improvements. I started out in a group lesson but was able to have one on one time with Norman for the 2nd half of the day, because the other lesson members just took a half day. Norman challenged me with more difficult blue runs, helped me nail down my form, showed me many different ways to approach various terrain, and we had a blast together overall - I smiled the whole time :) I highly recommend taking a lesson! Thank you Norman for such a fun day! P.S. The pricing for the lesson was definitely worth it when you purchase a lesson and a lift ticket together. read more

Leading the charge for low(er) lift ticket prices and cutting off sales on busy weekends so you don't spend an hour in line for a 2 minute run. Bravo. Good tips: On very windy days, avoid Alpine, they have many lifts on wind hold, the 24-hour snow phone is 530-581-8374 and even if the back bowl is open, getting there can be painful if you don't like buzzing the trees. The road up from the highway is usually well cleared but when it snows the parking lot can get a little tricky. Try taking the bus up from the highway, it's less hassle and only slightly slower than skating uphill, j/k. Go to lunch on the back side at the espresso hut turned grill. Best food, (better) prices great views and a good atmosphere. read more

I just love Alpine Meadows. It has a lot to offer for serious skiers and those who crave adventure, yet has a great ski school for beginners and an adaptive ski school for disabled skiers. The grooming has improved remarkably over the years, opening up all kinds of everchanging new trails. My favorite places are Hot Wheels Gully, a fun roller-coaster like trail that veers off in the woods under Hot Wheels chair that does require plenty of snow (it can be accessed from Roundhouse as well), Scott Ridge and Scott lift runs, and finally Sunspot trail, accessible from Summit Six Express. Finally , what earns this resort five stars and makes it awesome even at the end of the day are the super cool regular bartenders who will fill your glass and give you expert advice on the hill, the weather conditions, history of the resort, and of course, skiing--James, Scott, and Randy. read more

Being in the Military has its advantages, and riding here for free is definately one of them!!! THANK YOU AM!!!! I love this place. Wolverine bowl is really fun. Another favorite spot is the natural halfpipe at the bottom of scotts ridge run The only thing I dislike about this mountain is the flatness at the beggining of the sherwood run. read more
