Ive never had such mind destroying, wallet breaking, hopeless experience like this and im making this review to make sure nobody EVER goes to this guy. My engine had locked up and my mother said this guy was a good mechanic, i told him my issues and he towed it to his shop. He diagnosed the engine was locked and would need to be replaced. I gave him the money for the replacement and he gave me a engine that didnt work and was basically trash. Mind you just getting that engine i waited a month for him and his team to actually work on my vehicle. Then he told me it was the radiator boom another 300$. I ended telling him that i will not be paying for another engine since the one i paid for didnt work, he then said ok no problem i will cover your engine but then said i wont work on the car because my wife divorced me and im broke and homeless and that any paymet you send will help. So at that point i didnt know what to do, so i ended up just paying my balance of 500. He finally got the engine installed after 2 months of waiting and he brought it back with a faulty fuel pump and a bunch of wires and sensors messed up. Do not put any money into this guy and do NOT trust him. He also told me he has signs in his shop so if he runs over a tire With YOUR car you will pay for it. Also i could never ask him questions without him saying im rushing him even though he had my car for months.This guy will not prioritize your car only your MONEY. I contacted Al's Mobile Mechanic around 10:30 am for assistance installing front headlights and a rear cargo lamp since aftermarket lights for the 2012 GMC Canyon have a tendency to take on condensation. Within literally 3 hours or around 1:30 pm Al and his assistant Valentine showed up at my apartment and went to work. I'm in town for a concert and my car starts overheating as I get close to my hotel. I googled "mechanics near me" and found Al. From the minute he picked up the phone I felt like I was in good hands. He explained he could come to me but if I could drive to him I could save some money. I took my chances and drove over. CALLING AL'S IS LIKE CALLING AN OLD FRIEND TO SAVE THE DAY!!!! All the great reviews are true. Was visiting San Antonio for business and all of a sudden my car wouldn't start. Googled for a shop nearby, and Al's Mobile Mechanic is at the top of the search with a 5 star rating and 34 reviews. Having considered the rating and reviews, and having never used a mobile mechanic, I thought it might be worth a try. Being a female stranded out of town, I could at least trust these guys, right? So I call Al's and he says no problem, he's on his way! I ask if he could at least diagnose the car, he says no problem! Al shows up right away, quickly diagnoses the car as being the relay switch, which he says it common for the make/model, and the only place to get this particular switch is the Acura dealership. Dealership??? So Al makes a run allllll the wayyyy to the dealership, returns, and fixes the car in 5 minutes tops, no problem!!! No towing fees, no leaving the car at the shop, no drama, none of that! Just right back on the road and total peace of mind! Awesome service!! I had a leak in the radiator resevoir in my bmw. I called Al, left a message, and he called me back directly. One of his technicians, Daniel, was at my place within 2 hours. He was friendly and professional, and diagnosed the problem within a few minutes. He even drove me to the dealership to get the part. So I went and it was a living nightmare. I wish I could call the police on this guy. Not only did he damage my brand new car parts that I paid him to put in (radiator) but he partially unplugged my relay to my fan and told me it didn't come on properly. He left his dusty fingerprints as proof. Also I took him to gallons of antifreeze to put in and my reservoir was 100% empty. He cut through the main wire running to my O2 sensor. Left the air filter housing wide open. Too many problems honestly. The worst thing he did "test drove my car" and let it overheat to a point that I had to demand he turn it off. It reached a temp so high that I've seen warnings I've never seen come on. He didn't properly install radiator or this wouldn't have heated up before cooling down. And by the way, car still has the same overheating issue. Fan works fine. He took my money and damaged my car further. He sucks. Sounds good at first but... don't do it to yourself. What a great decision! I needed a same day inspection on a pre owned vehicle I was interested in purchasing, and Al not only showed up on time but provided a thorough inspection, giving me the piece of mind I needed. Before he arrived, I had checked the speakers and heating/cooling. He did all the heavy lifting. Although the essential components were in great shape, he pointed out a few cosmetic or non essential items that were useful in the negotiating process, that I may not have noticed, like door seals and cargo lights out (something I wouldn't notice during daylight). Furthermore, he gave me an approximation on useful life of the brakes and tires, so I could budget wisely as to when I could expect their replacements. His profesionalism and friendliness were much appreciated and I knew I could trust him with his insight that solidified my decision, which resulted in the purchase of my awesome new-to-me vehicle. His mobile inspection fee of $125 is right in line with everyone else and is worth every penny, especially if it could potentially save you thousands in repairs and missed days of work. Al's is AAAMAZING! Best service EVER! We are not from San Antonio so after spending an awesome weekend for the Canelo/Trout fight, it was Sunday and we were ready to go home. Unfortunately, RIGHT when we got in the car and tried to get on the road, our vehicle began having issues with the shifter/gears. All of a sudden, our vehicle was stuck on drive (shown on the digital display) but our shifter was on park! Because it was stuck on drive, we were unable to turn the car on or move it all!! We were stranded at a gas station, on a Sunday, and we didn't know what to do! I Googled and came upon this Yelp page for Al's. Since it was Sunday and we were unable to move the car, we did not think we would find any mechanics that would be able to come to us today. I gave him a call and got the voice mailbox. I disappointingly hung up but he called RIGHT back! He asked where we were and what the issue was. He said he would be on his way in about 20 minutes. I was seriously amazed!!! He got there in about 45 minutes. He was very nice, friendly an helpful. He was there less than 15 minutes and that is because we also had some battery problems. He fixed our shifter issue quickly and told us what the issue was and got us back on the road quickly. He even called back after we left to tell us what we should do with the problem we had with the battery.I was seriously freaking out before we found him and I did not think we would be able to be back home today but here I am now writing this review from my house in Houston!! I am grateful that I am back home, will make it to work tomorrow and did not have to spend $700+ to have the car towed home to Houston. THANK YOU AL!!!!! Now I know that my review is a simple paste from my review on google. But hope you find some insight from my review. Maybe it was just me with a bad experience but an over the top experience for me. Completely ludicrous, I diagnosed the problem myself, sent out multiple pictures on what was wrong and what needed to be done and he came out to my home to tell me that said that he'll probably have to bring it to the shop for best repair of trying to fix it. Okay that sounds reasonable, now the original price for him coming onsite and REMOVING MY BROKEN HEADBOLT was approximately $180, reasonable... My problem arrives with this guy when he tried to charge me $125 for a service charge, bare in mind I used "charge" loosely; the correct way to describe it was "hustle", and he still had the audacity just for coming out and telling me "man I can attempt but I might ruin the threads and then you'll have to buy a new block". I was completely willing to pay a service charge, but not an absurd amount for doing absolutely nothing. No thank you. Obviously, If you're in dire need of a mechanic with no transportation (tow truck). Then mobile mechanics might be your preferred option, but when the charge for a so called "service fee" is more than a tow truck and diagnostics from a mechanic shop, fight your way out of that. He does cash only payments, probably so his schemes with others that are a bit passive, succeed and doesn't backfire on him like it did with me. He seems also not to realize that his "reviews" are 3 stars not 5 and was telling us if an officer came he would technically be in favor. Well with no written agreement and fallacies in his comments, he went up and left. Definitely do not let my bad experience ruin your experience with mobile mechanics. I've had a few help me out and were 100% about everything but with this guy, I might think thrice and that still wouldn't make me come for their services. Listen, I'm not gonna trash this business, but I think it's important that the general public know about it. I give credit where credit is due. I've given good reviews to businesses when it is warranted. I also, as a consumer need to voice my dissatisfaction when necessary. I wasn't going to say anything until Al said something that I didn't think was either professional as a business owner or necessary. I'm not going to go into detail about my dissatisfaction with this business. Just let me say this, communication was poor, inconsiderate of consumer's time and somewhat unprofessional. He made a comment that no business owner should make to a consumer. It's ok to think something but not verbalized it to a consumer. Overall, he could probably change your oil, spark plugs, filter etc. However, if it is something major, go to someone reputable. My advice to this business: 1) better communication with your potential customers: we waited all day not hearing from you, turning previous callers away only not to receive service. You then rescheduled for a certain time the next day. We made arrangements and plans for that time. We get a call 2 hours before your scheduled time asking if you could go to the car which totally destroyed our plans. 2) do your research before you waste someone's time. With the advent of smartphones you should be able to Google information on a car if you weren't sure where to put the key in or what the engine layout was. It was a total waste of our time. Al asked me to say something good. 1) he had fancy business cards. However he asked for it back which I both understand and thought was funny. 2) I saw on his truck that he also did lawns for $20 which includes edges and blowing. I wonder if I am EVER going to be able to get a good review on a mobile mechanic. I am a dedicated YELPer so I looked her FIRST when I needed a mobile mechanic. I contacted "AL" thru his website left a message saying "I am a YELPER and I saw your great reviews on Yelp so please call me back" and he called back on 8/19/13 within a few moments. I explained what I needed and he stated he needed "69.95" diagnostic fee "in cash - up front!". Well that seems fair (I mean someone could just have him come out and do the diagnostic and fix it themselves - - ) but when I asked if that fee could be applied to the repair - he said "Sure as long as the repair bill is over $200.00!" (That seems fair too, right - - I mean if it's under $200.00 and he finds the problem for 70 bucks - that's cool!) He asked that I text him my address and the times needed and I did that on 8/19 and asked for 8/20 from 3P - 6P on 8/20. He agreed. Yippeeeee. He will come or so I trust. TRUST.....TRUST.....TRuuuussstt...... (echo echo echo) You can imagine what happened? NOTHING! At 5:17pm on 8/20 I get a text that states "I am running very much behind schedule - - today isn't looking as good as of now....I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused". Now I don't trust him - - he knew he was busy and said NOTHING until much later in the appointment. I would have understood if he had called me BEFORE the appointment but he didn't call, text or anything until the time had almost passed - - and here I am sitting like an idiot and taking time off work based on HIS WORD. When I call him out on it (using words like Customer Service, trust, and "your word". His response: I reiterate - I apologize - - if that's not good enough - so be it!". So the MOBILE MECHANICS in San Antonio continue to keep us IMMOBILE. Total waste of time and a bad attitude on top of breaking his word. NOT recommended. He knows I am posting a review - - let's see what he says to make it right..............tick tock tick tock tick tock. This is in direct response to Al's response above. I appreciate that Al apologized, and in all honesty I gave him the permission and opportunity to fix this AGAIN on 8/21. I gave him all day to respond to the location and made accomodations for him to have the keys. He stated he need authorization (Even though he was sent two texts as such which would stand up anywhere). He still refused to come so he failed once - asked for a chance to do it again, was given that chance and now stands on his procedures - - when he broke them yesterday. I still cannot advocate for this mechanic or his ethics. Fool me once - shame on you. Fool me twice - shame on me. (I also don't think that he should be giving himself 5 stars on his comments - - this negates the rating given........but I don't want to get into ethics here again). Well folks - here's the FINAL update. He asked for forgiveness, and I gave it to him and told him where to be and when - - he didn't show. Nothing else to do but let the review stay as stands. I asked him to provide his business address and no more from him. Not a legitimate business since he won't identify where a formal complaint can be sent...........and did you notice his address isn't listed on Yelp.Com either? Ethically - He logs in as someone and then gives himself five stars rather than an average rating to skew the results, doesn't show for scheduled appointments, and then makes excuses on his "2nd Chance". We were driving in from New Orleans when my car started making some unusual noises. Mind you, this was Saturday evening on Memorial Day weekend. Thankfully my car made it to the parking lot of the hotel, where it was clear that she should not be driven until a professional took a gander. A few phone calls to mechanics found thru Yelp resulted in what we feared: business was closed. It seemed like divine intervention when my SO found Al's contact info online. One call resulted in a quick exchange of texts with pics and vids, and a plan for my car to be towed to Al's for an assessment and hopeful solution. Not only did Al let me know when my car arrived safely to his place, he checked her out, informed me that the water pump was busted and said he would work on it on Sunday. I couldn't believe it - this was at 10pm on a Saturday night!! On Sunday, Al kept me posted about his progress. And as if it couldn't get any better, he returned my car to my hotel 2 hours earlier than anticipated. This was easily the most convenient car problem I have ever had - in an unfamiliar city on a holiday weekend!! Al was responsive, speedy, efficient and priced his services very fairly for all the work he put in. Just moved to San Antonio a few months ago for work. My cars belt broke on me leaving me stranded. I searched Mobil mechanic and this was the first thing that came up. I called and promptly received a text message after leaving a voice mail. He suggested looking into towing through my insurance before paying out of pocket, which i did and saved some money on. Once my vehicle was at his location my car was fixed a couple of hours later for a very decent price. He was also very patient by staying a little later when I picked it up after work. I messed up the thread on my aluminum head taking out a spark plug. Called Al to see if he could re-tap it. Al came by the house but because of the limited space in the engine and the overall situation he couldn't do it. He gave me options between the dealership and his shop. He even called around to see if he can get me a cheaper price on a new head. He didn't even charge me for the service call. He was very honest and didn't try to bs me. Even though I opted to have the dealership do the repair just because it is my primary family vehicle which we take on multiple trips, Al definitely earned my respect.
