I'm not a big fan of negative reviews for these "one off" experiences with staff or a hair on your plate. I stick to the big picture to make my comments most meaningful. I have gotten three (3) large pies over the last two years. They have all been UNmemorable. My last was Nov 2022. I would say the crust was less than unmemorable, it tasted bland and crunchy like a gluten-free crust. The BIG problem here is the cost ... $36 The toppings were charged at $2.75 and $4 each. Four dollars for spinach, which was barely found on this pie ??!! The same pie at Middlebury Pizza? $29 That's almost 25% more ! My logic says 25% more is fine if it's at least 25% BETTER, but it's not even as good. Not to mention Middlebury Pizza has an 18" pie with "everything " for $22 Bye bye AL'S read more

Ordered pizza and it was wrong. Went back and was told they could make a replacement I didn't have rime to wait, was told by the owner they would make it right next time. I went back this time and the owner said he didn't know anything about it! Spoke with him And he doesn't remember. Employ that was working didn't t wrote it down. So that's my fault. Owner wouldn't do anything for me. So moral of the story is I wouldn't order anything there. If they make your pie and tell you they will fix it next time. I became a fan of Al's pizzas when he owned San Remo back when I moved to Woodbury. After he sold that, I went without a great pie until Al's Best opened up. Now, I can't get enough of it. Thin crust, or chewy, doughy Sicilian, it's the best pizza in the area. I've also tried his pizza rolls, paninis, calzones, and they are all great. I often eat-in, and their salads are great for a lunch by themselves, but I end up ordering one as a starter with something else from the menu. The last few times I've eaten there, the server, Jess, always had a smile and made me feel welcome. Unfortunately, I've yet to try one of their homemade desserts - I'm usually too full by the end of a meal to order one. Haven't had the pizza but their penne Ala vodka is amazing could use more garlic but that's just a me thing-and the little roll they include is equally as good- they do charge dinner prices and give you dinner portions well before their lunch menu is over, which I'm not necessarily mad about, but the first time we ordered I was a little caught off guard. Extremely overpriced, me and my friends ordered a small and a large pizza and it was 40$ we could've gone anywhere else in the area and gotten four times as much pizza for the same quality and price. My electric bike ran out of juice right in front of Al's. I had 10 more miles to bike home and I figured some pizza would help my legs. I'm glad that I ran out of power and went in. I went here for lunch and decided to try the buffalo chicken pizza. I got their Greek salad as a starter. I have had their Greek salad before and loved it. The buffalo chicken pizza was delicious! This is my second time here and I had a great meal both times. The server Jess was so attentive! I used to go to San Remo when he was there and loved the food. I will be returning here in the future. look this place is more than worth a try... I've had the pizza several times and chicken parm dinner w pasta too. perfect if you need a takeout pizza or a quick slice...you can sit down at a couple of basic tables too if there's room. the young ladies that do the serving are great and they try hard to please you by paying attention and doing whatever they can to make your meal pleasant. ok so 4 stars for some quick and good food (+ friendly service) is where i stand. if you want to dig deeper into my 40+ years of CT/NY pizza/Italian style food experience... then the short version is that they could work a bit on the crust as others have noted, but the sauce -THE SAUCE! The pizza here is awful. The crust is burnt and dried out, and I'm fairly certain it's just hot cardboard. The sauce has little flavor, same with the toppings. Truly abysmal, and amazingly even worse when you consider that this is a pizza place that opened in a very small town that already had five pizza places. The "help" at the counter isn't that at all. I'll start off with this: I need one more visit to really have a solid opinion on this place and the pizza. Went there for lunch today with a work colleague. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and quickly took our orders. I ordered a plain slice and a slice of sicilian. The drink choices are pretty limited but they have the basics covered. The pizza sauce was good, a little more flavorful than Woodbury Pizza a little further down the road. The cheese was the standard grease slick producing type found on most by the slice places. Where I thought the pizza fell a little flat was the crust. The crust was too crispy and dry. Perhaps they're dailing in the recipe so I will try again in a few weeks. Even then, this is standard slice pizza. I'm giving them 4 stars for now based on service and to give them a far shot since they're new. Will update this soon. read more

I got their special it was terrible the crust was hard the greens were under the cheese they became just wet oily and gross the tomatoes tasteless probably canned. Pizza is very good. Sauce is just spicy enough and the crust is perfect- chewy, not thick but not so thin that it gets burned. Toppings are high quality, generous and pizza cooked through. Girls at the counter are super friendly, great service for take out. One star down because they forgot the grilled chicken on the Caesar salad, but didn't charge for it so the order taker likely didn't hear it over the cell phone call. There are just a few casual tables if you want to sit, but it's a little awkward since its so small and the walkway to the counter is through the middle of the dining area. Certainly not the best pizza.... Also the workers are very rude and lazy. Went in for 3 cheese slices with 2 children mid day and they had no selection at all whatsoever. There were only 2 slices left so I got them for the kids. When asking about if there would be any more slices made the workers shrugged their shoulders and sat around doing nothing.
