First time here. I liked how the menu has alot of variety. Its good for a family where everyone may feel like different things. We personally did not enjoy the food. It was very bland. Cugino's Pizzeria is a mystery wrapped in an enigma smothered with cheese, deep fat fried and served with a side of marinara sauce. When they are good, they are excellent. The garlic knots are amazing - almost a pastry - and the pizza is a quite good thin-crust alternative. The salads are generous and come in many forms. And it is good value for the money. Plus, the owner is there most of the time and he'll go the extra mile to make your experience a good one. But when they are bad, they are inexplicably bad. If you come in, there is no evidence of table service until suddenly a teenager appears at your table saying nothing and staring at you vacantly. Some of the toppings - meatball especially - are tasteless and actually detract from the pizza. (Stick with cheese or the basics like pepperoni.) Overall, I would recommend the place. We are there about once every two months for a get-together with friends who live nearby and never regret it. Just be careful in what you order and have the right expectations for service. read more

Me and boyfriend were pleasantly surprised how a restaurant can serve both italian and mexican at the same time. We've ordered from here a couple times already, both pick up and delivery, and we both have nothing but words of praise. My boyfriend loves their calzones. They're large and generous and priced fairly, whereas I-- who despise tomato sauce, prefers mexican. This restaurant is a save all for people who have hard time deciding between the two. I ordered the Al Pastor tacos.(6.50 for three! Considering new haven prices, a single taco cost 3 dollars each) As someone whose generally picky with pork (I prefer things sweet and moist), it was a splendid dish. Delectibly sweet and savoury. The Italian food is subpar. Not much flavor. From reading other reviews, it seems like their speciality is Mexican food.

I am new to this area of CT from Brooklyn NY...the pizza has been terrible all over CT and it's pretty decent from this place . What I do give 5 stars is to the authentic Mexican food. Not Tex mex but authentic Mexican which I was use to when eating in queens and Brooklyn and certain parts of Manhattan . So glad they deliver as well ! read more

I ordered a pizza that was delivered and completely wrong so I called them and they said they will make me a new one. But, get this, they want the old one back, my husband and I are Healthcare workers and exposed to covid daily. This cheap guy will take back a pizza that sat in my house for an hour during a pandemic. This will be the last time I order from here. Was looking for a pizza delivery nearby (besides Domino's) Searched on Yelp and found Cugino's. Going by the good reviews I decided to order a meat lovers pie for my 19 year old son and myself. The pizza was outstanding! my son called it "Bangin'. There was so much meat piled on it one slice was all I could eat. (large pie) Put it in the fridge with 4 slices left, got up the next morning and sonny boy had eaten the rest!!! Didn't even save me ONE slice. This is my first experience here. If I could give zero stars I would!!! Nothing but problems since the new owners took over with their Mexican Italian food!! Called to order a pizza special I saw on grub hub and all menus, and was told they no longer honor that, advised the "manager" that I saw it on two sites, and was told "I don't care we don't do that and we don't do business with them". I advised him I was going to stop doing business with him, he proceeded to tell me he didn't care, and hung up on me. I called back, and asked for the owner, he said "I am the owner, I'm busy, leave me alone" and hung up again. We've ordered twice before and both times were problems...DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE, there's too much other good pizza around with people that appreciate your business. read more

I've been going here for about a year now. They cook with fresh herbs and spices . My favorite is the garlic knot rolls.

We have been ordering from Cugino's for a couple of years now. The food is consistently good. The pizza is a thinner style crust which is something my whole family really likes. The Mexican food is very good. The Tacos El Pastor is a good buy at $6.00 and tastes very good. I've recently become a big fan of the Chicken Enchilada with the green sauce. The Veggie Baked Ziti has been something we have served to guests at picnics and parties and have always received positive feedback. We have tried many of the dishes and have found some favorites we stick with. It's interesting to read the different reviews. They range from 1 - 5. I can understand some of the comments as the staff isn't necessarily customer focused. However, I have never found them to be rude. read more

So far I have had the clams casino with red sauce, nonnas and the Hawaiian pizza all three pies were very good. The sauce is not sweet and the toppings are plenty. The crust was nice and thin and crispy and had very good flavor. My only issue is the time frame I was told twenty mins and showed up a half hour later and the pizza was just going into the oven. I don't mind the wait but I would have given five stars if they had just told me the correct time over the phone. read more

Cugino's is fantastic. The always know who I am and how I like my pizza. You have to try the eggplant as a topping. That is my favorite but all their pies are delicious. One time I ordered catered dishes. I did not give them much notice but the owner took care of it. I am really pleased with this place. We've had some issues when they opened, getting orders correct, but they always made it right. The last several months have been fine. Seems like they've gotten that together. Went there again tonight, called in a meat lovers pizza at 6:40 pm. They told me 20-25 minutes. After running down to another store and arriving I paid for my pizza at 7:03, confirmed by receipt. Right after I sat down I heard the front of house guy talking to the cook, some Mexican guy, yeah , real Italian food right there??, and heard that he had not even started my order. Thank god for my iphone and games on it. I sat there till about 7:35 when the front end guy came back and said, I apologize for the wait, would you like some free garlic knots. Sure, I had expected to be home and done eating by now. It was a nice gesture and at least they were trying. 5 minutes later my pizza arrives. When I get it and take to 20 second walk to the car it is now 7:45. I called the pizza in over an hour ago. They should have made it free for messing up so bad. While sitting there for the 45 minutes I had also heard multiple calls come in that sounded like angry customers who had ordered delivery. I could tell because they always responded, what was the address?, it should be there soon. I have experienced this myself. Taking about 2 hours + to get a delivery to my house. On the positive the pizza was pretty good, I think they slapped on some extra toppings because they knew they screwed up and would be sitting there the whole time. And I do have to give credit to the high school kid working the front end to try to reconcile the situation. Most wouldn't care. One thing I have noticed though is that I never see the owners anymore. They used to be in there I believe husband and wife working both ends. Now its always the Mexican guy in the back and some random up front. Lately there has been some Mexican woman who stands around doing nothing the whole time too. Wonder what her job is cause I would love it. As I said I was there for a good 45 minutes and got a good view of the place and its workers for an extended period. That woman stood there and did ABSOLUTELY nothing. I think this is my last trip there after all the problems I have had over many visits and delivery mishaps. I really do believe that the place could have been great but after a few months the owners just stopped caring and left it to the staff after they saw a profit. This place is awesome. The good is really great. Their pizza's are outstanding! Their grinders also (except for the buffalo chicken sub, make sure you ask them to make it grilled vs fried) :o) I have been coming to this place for months and will continue to do so. I did notice that from Rich that they don't honor their online discount code. That's not completely true however it did happen once to me however I pointed out that the discount wasn't applied and that was fixed. I really loved my dinner just now - so I feel compelled to give thanks. We've been ordering pizza from here for a while. Love the online ordering and it is consistently good - not like let me run to the computer and write a review but solid and it's my kids' favorite. I recently was told to avoid gluten so I've been trying other dishes when I get pizza for the family and tonight I had potato skins and chicken tacos and it was so good. Really, really good. Like another reviewer said the owner works most nights and he is very nice - gave my daughter an orange soda on the house tonight and one day he let us try some empanadas that weren't on the menu that were also really good in a flaky pastry crust (one of many things I won't be eating anymore but they were very tasty). read more

Re-visited the location for another White Clam pizza. It was just as good as the first time. Hope their other pizza offerings are is good and hope the few items I wasn't fond of get improved. This is such a convenient location when traveling up and down Route 34 in the valley. read more
