I was having a real "Pittsburgh Proud" moment at this ice cream spot. I loved reading about the…read morehistory of the business and looking through all of the vintage advertisements and memorabilia outside the shop. My first thought after visiting was that I should have come here sooner, and my second thought was already deciding what I want to order next time. I am already planning to order the peanut butter soft serve with warm fudge and a warm cookie after being inspired by their chocolate chip cookie sundae advertisement and will need to ask about what the strawberry shortcake situation is all about as well. For years, I watched the long lines outside and wondered what all the hype was about. Sometimes you don't get it until you "get it" - and now I get it. Fortunately for us, there was barely any line when we arrived even though it was a hot summer day. Even better, it's only about a one-hour walk from my house. The service was also fast and friendly and the employee who helped us was pleasant the whole time which added to the overall experience. I was especially impressed by the peanut butter soft serve. The flavor was rich and pronounced without compromising the smooth, creamy texture of the soft serve. It was everything I would want peanut butter soft serve ice cream to be. I was also surprised by how many soft-serve flavors they offer. Most places have only a few options, but there was plenty to choose from here. That said, it's hard for me to order anything other than the peanut butter soft serve now that I know how much I love it. One thing to know is that they do not offer free samples because the flavors are made to order. Something else to know is that the small sized cone held noticeably more ice cream than the small cup despite being the same price - so if you can I suggest the cone over the cup if you want more ice cream for the same price. I originally chose the cup because my hands weren't clean, but I later realized the cones come with a plastic protector around them anyway. All in all, this is one of those places that lives up to its reputation, and I highly recommend coming here if you are an ice cream aficionado.

I got the strawberry shortcake sundae and it was huge! I did not expect it to be so big so if you're looking to share something this would be it! It's a staple and delicious. I will be coming back to try to different flavors they got going on.

8/18/25 Ate List:…read moreRoyal Red Robin - 4.2 I love Red Robin. But this location is in Homestead. And like nearly all of the chains and spots in Homestead (Chick Fil A, McDonalds, Panera, etc) - the experience is worse than the par you'd expect. An hour and a half. I watched the kitchen's food sit under a hot lamp for 20/30 minutes a dish. A different waitress jumped in to bring us our food. Food arrived cold. Not going back to this location. This location needs a personel audit. Experience was the kind as a patron where you feel "this job is not THAT hard." If you like Red Robin, skip this location.

The host was pleasant and wished Mom a happy birthday. Everything went downhill from there. The server seemed annoyed that I mentioned it was Mom's birthday. I wasn't expecting anything for free, but a little fuss over her would have been nice. It took forever to get our food. Food quality has definitely gone downhill - the kid's meal came with 6 fries and approximately 8 in the asked-for refill. The sauce on the pizza had changed and was unpleasant. Pineapple on a burger and chicken sandwich was razor-thin. We were not asked if we wanted dessert (given it was a birthday, I would have ordered cake). The server basically ignored us when it was time to pay, and the computer on the table didn't work. I finally received a second computer from the server. Could not get my reward code to work, and then was snippily told by the server that it was because we got one of the $9.99 specials that included a drink, and that is in the fine print, so no other rewards apply. Tried to print a receipt and got a blank piece of paper. Bottom line - disappointing - I do NOT recommend for a special event.

I've tried all the heavy hitters in the slightly-elevated-burgers tier (the one above McDonaldss and BK). In N Out, Five Guys, and Super Duper. I'd say Super Duper and Shake Shack are the top two. I got the SmokeShack double with bacon, cheese, and cherry peppers. Yummy. The sweetness and smokiness add a bit of depth that In N Out doesn't have. Would repeat. If I was feeling voracious I would've opted for the cheese fries! But decided didn't want to feel too heavy/gassy on the flight :) They even have bottled sparkling water, which I got. The wait wasn't bad, and they have a small, dedicated seating area -- but you could easily take the food anywhere you want. Recommended when dining at the airport. Would repeat.

The Homestead…read morelocation is perfectly situated in a beautiful shopping area with plenty of shops, eateries, and across from a gigantic AMC movie theater. With the variety of stores and plenty of free parking, it's become one of my favorite areas to go out when visiting Pittsburgh. Burgatory has a full bar and some daily specials, which can add some value depending on which day of the week you visit. We started off with the truffled gorgonzola fries (3.25/5). While the fries were decent, the gorgonzola cheese was a bit too strong for our tastes, so would likely ask for them without the gorgonzola next time. I got their smashburger (3.75/5), which was filling and of decent quality, but the patties themselves weren't the most flavorful. The house chips (2.5/5) that came with the meals were quite underwhelming, and it stinks that they don't have an option to sub them out for regular fries or onion rings. There's definitely a missed opportunity to not even offer an alternative option for a small upcharge, as we were told no substitutions were allowed. Service (4.5/5) was attentive and friendly throughout the meal, and Shane checked in on us several times to ask if we needed anything else. I would rate the food an overall 3.5/5, and since Yelp doesn't allow 1/2 stars, don't mind rounding up in support of a small local chain and thanks to the great service. I would return to try out some of their other menu items and would recommend Burgatory to others looking to try out a local option for burgers in the Pittsburgh area. Hopefully, they will recognize the missed opportunity to allow customers to sub out their house chips for alternative sides in the future.

Not sure if I'd come back, but maybe I'd try the other veggie burger next time. Not a bad place for the waterfront.
