Where do I begin with how poor this experience has been. Deceptive pricing: we were given an hourly rate but never told that there was a four hour minimum charge per day. Al's moved us from our old home, held our furniture in the truck over night and moved us into our new home the next day. It was a 2 hours of their time on day 1 and 1 hour on day 2, but we were charged for 8 hours across two days. We were never told about the 4 hour minimum, but that is what it is. Where I am incredibly frustrated is our tv was broken during the move. When I tried to turn it on, here was a large crack in the screen that was not there prior to the move. The tv is unusable. I reached out to Al's main number and was told verbatim "I'm writing a note and putting it on 'the bosses's desk. You'll get a call tomorrow.'" by Denise. I did not get a call the following day. I called again two days later and again got Denise. I again got the line about the note on the bosses desk. I shared with Denise that this feels like deja vu and asked to confirm when i was getting a call and who I would be getting a call from. Denise became incredibly rude and unprofessional to the point it was almost comedic before hanging up on me. I called back, again getting Denise and asked why she hung up on me. She denied it, I asked for the name of the person I should be expecting to call me. Again she became incredibly unprofessional and hung up. I then called the salesperson that my wife dealt with directly. When I stated hey my tv's broken and I called days ago and haven't heard anything, I was rushed off the call. I strongly would not recommend Al's. I have family that is moving in a few weeks and I will make it a point to steer them away from Al's because of how outrageous the process of trying to get in touch with someone about the damage to my TV has been. read more

I have been using Al's Moving for over 20 years on many moves. During my most recent move, one of their employees slashed a leather chair with a box cutter. Their answer was to offer me $25 after I submitted the cost and photos of my chair. The chair cost me $1.500 a year or so earlier. Unlike other movers they obviously do not carry sufficient insurance for your belongings and do not tell you this upfront. The insurance they carry is 60 cents per pound. This is absolutely ridiculous and they are not careful AT ALL with your belongings. Who puts shrink wrap on a leather chair? I would recommend NOT using Al's for your moving needs. Spend the extra money and go elsewhere. UPDATE: It is now 4 months since I wrote this review and Al's Moving has done absolutely nothing to remedy the situation. Movers slashed my sofa when unpacking - they cut it with a knife when taking the plastic off a designer sofa. $2500 worth of damage (that was the estimate to reupholster). Won't return phone calls or emails - it takes 4 calls before they will respond. They tried to pass me off to their family upholsterer who from what I can ascertain saw the damage and told them it needed to be recovered and was not repairable. Made an offer of $200 because according to them it was an accident and not negligent. Complete carelessness on their part - their teams should be far more careful when using a knife to remove packaging. They then offered $800 which does not even come close to covering the repair. I'm now looking at having to file a claim against them. This is not a company you want to be working with if there are any issues. Lack of customer focus and accountability. Most disappointing moving experience I've ever had - horrible! Al was initially so personable, suggesting top notch service. Not only did he NOT provide top service, it was absolutely awful! Al demanded payment up front, which required me going to his horrible, dirty office in White Plains. And then when some of my furniture was in storage, he demanded MORE money before agreeing to continue the job! How would I be able to go elsewhere if he already had my furniture in storage?? He was shaking me down!! I was moving into a BRAND NEW SPACE but his guys were in a huge rush -- taking long breaks for lunch and complaining the entire day despite the amount of work we ALL did to move in. They damaged almost all WALLS (scratches; dents; greasy hand prints -- everything needed to get repainted which was $800); they dropped a NIGHT TABLE worth $1200 which is now broken; and dented the NEW HARD WOOD FLOOR. A LARGE VERTICAL DRESSER worth $1400 that was in storage was also smashed and damaged beyond repair. Despite many phone calls, emails, and text messages, neither Al nor his wife, nor anyone at the office would take responsibility for the damage caused. Worst moving experience I've ever had. They positioned themselves as white glove service but they didn't do half of what we agreed to and charged premium pricing. For example, they packed up our kitchen (which we paid them to do) but they didn't unpack anything and left all the boxes all over the house. Another example, they took down our TV and TV mount but refused to install the TV in the new place and left it on the ground. Finally, we moved from a two bedroom apartment and it took them 13 hours to finish (and by finish, I mean just get all the boxes into our new place and put back together our bed from the master bedroom). Being strapped for time, I had to find a reliable moving company in a matter of a week to get my mother from Westchester County to LA County by mid November. I read sooooo many reviews and wasn't impressed with any of the companies. I was also disappointed to find that many of the reviews never mentioned the actual cost. So, I decided to ask my local neighbors on both coasts on NextDoor. Low and behold, many of them mentioned Al's Moving. I even had one neighbor private message me to assure me that he was the best in the area. That was all I needed to hear! I picked up the phone and called him on a Saturday afternoon with a 3 hour difference. It was almost 5pm on the East Coast and he was with his wife but picked up any way! I was blown away and impressed with his concern to help me move my mom out to LA. When I hung up the phone, we had confirmed to meet at mom's house the day after I arrived to walk around the house and discuss what I needed to move. Al, was prompt to our meeting and honest about the price. He knew I had a budget and tried very hard to accommodate me. I also enjoyed our conversation. Al let me know that it would be cheaper to buy things new then ship out all of mom's furniture. I appreciated his honesty which helped me to narrow down my shipping list. (The original one was very long.) By the next day, Al called me to let me know his business associate, Robert Benedict Professional Mover, would be contacting me in regards to picking up my items by the end of the week. He stopped by one my time to drop off boxes, tape and paper. I had less then 5 days to pack up 25 boxes before Robert arrived. Al did me a HUGE favor, so I was not missing this pick up! 25 boxes, 11 pieces of furniture, 2 large area rugs, and 4 small rugs, cost me under $5000. I had been quoted twice that by competitors. This is the second move that Al's has done for our family, and both went great. From the beginning to end, everything was smooth and professional. The job was to pack and move a two-bedroom apartment from Manhattan to eastern Connecticut. The crew of six arrived on time and spent seven hours packing boxes and loading the truck. Every item was handled with care, every box carefully labeled. The next day, they arrived on time and got everything unloaded in good time. Complicating the move was that some things were going to storage, some things to a house, and some were being disposed of. They got it all correct. Omar and his cohort were nice enough, but the confusion and resentment that they had to "move more than one dresser" and hearing them say upon their arrival at 3:30pm that they "had to be done by 5:00pm" (even though the reservation was for the minimum of four hours) was more than disconcerting. Also, having a representative at the company's office ill prepared with the reservation information at his finger tips when we called to confirm the movers arrival time is just bad customer service. TLDR: Do not use Al's Moving. Once I had paid them, they became rude and unprofessional; getting any details about my move or storage was like pulling teeth. To cap it all off, several of my items went missing with Al's Moving, and when I sent in a claim they never bothered to reply. Full story: I was stuck outside the U.S. during the pandemic and needed to move out of my apartment. I hired Al's Moving to pack up my apartment and store my things. Al's moved my things into storage on August 27 2020. My things were in storage with Al's Moving (for which I paid at the beginning of every month) until April 11 2022. I asked Al's if it would be possible for me to pay an extra fee to forward some of my important documents to an aunt's house. They said they would get back to me, then never did. I asked Al's if the items being stored would be insured, or if I could pay extra to have my items insured. Again, I received no answer. Any time I had any questions, I would get no response or getting a response would take so much back and forth, it was like pulling teeth. Early in March 2022, when I came back to the U.S. and found a new apartment in Jersey City, I requested a quote from Al's to move my things to the new place. Their quote was $2,250. I had a few telephone conversations with them to sort out details for the move, and they constantly talked over me if I tried to ask any questions and made me ask repeatedly to get answers. In mid March 2022 I decided to get a quote from another company, and got a quote of $900. Along with quoting me less than half the price of Al's, this other company was so polite on the phone. Of course, I decided to go with this other company, and of course Al's was unhappy about that. Al's decided to charge me $700 simly to allow my things to be picked up from storage by the other moving company. I had to pay that upfront, before I was even allowed to see my things in the warehouse. When I saw my things, it was clear they had been packed and stored pretty roughly. I was not allowed to see the place where my things had originally been stored, to check that all my boxes had been brought out of storage. Due to this lack of transparency, I requested a claims form from Al's Moving, so that I could fill it in as I unpacked in my new place if items were damaged/missing. The other moving company delivered my things to my new place on April 11th, and allowed me to check their truck before and after the move. When I had finished unpacking everything on April 23, there were a number of missing items. I called Al's to ask them to check for my items in their warehouse, which they did not allow me to check when picking up my things. Their immediate response was "That's what happens when you use 2 moving companies". So, basically, this was my comeuppance for refusing to accept Al's ridiculously high quote and terrible customer service. I sent in my claims form by email on April 23 and have yet to hear back from Al's (it's now May 1). read more

I was charged almost twice the price of what the initial estimate was. The movers broke my 2-year-old TV and reimbursed me for roughly half of the tv value. To make matters worse they are not pleasant to deal with by phone - after reporting my tv damage and given an unfair settlement price, the man on the other end of the phone said "you clearly don't understand depreciation" for their justification of giving me the settlement amount that they wanted to. Multiple scratches are visible on our tv stand. We only used this company as it was recommended by our new apartment building but I sincerely regret using them instead of my regular moving company. The lack of communication from this moving company is JARRING. Called in September to get a moving quote from Hartsdale to White Plains, and they gave us an hourly rate. Thought we were set. When it came time to schedule in October, the original quote was raised. Fine, no problem. Day of the move comes, guys are scheduled for 10 AM, they came on time and were very efficient in packing and moving. Everything was in our new place by 12:30 PM. It comes time to pay and we're given an exorbitant amount that we have to pay. Apparently, Al's Moving has some sort of 4 hour minimum that they never mentioned in the multiple phone calls that were had. So, rather than being charged for the 2.5 hours it took, we were charged for 4. In an effort to understand how that could possibly make sense, the employees at Al's were hysterically telling us to pay the 4 hours that we did not use. According to them, the hourly rate begins when the movers leave the warehouse and ends when they return to the warehouse. They told us this warehouse was an hour away from our original place in Hartsdale...White Plains is 10 minutes away. Mind you, they also claimed that the movers left at 9:30 AM. Not sure if I don't know how to do math all of a sudden, but 9:30 to 10 is 30 minutes, but please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know. They were adamant about us paying for 4 hours. If you wanted us to pay for 4 hours, you should have said something before. They finally instead charged us for 3.5 hours (still not making sense), and we just paid because they clearly sit on some high horse and weren't trying to listen to what we were saying. Currently trying to figure out how they have been in business for 40+ years with this kind of service, but I digress. An absolute garbage company, with absolute skells that work there. Not only did they lose half my life after storing it at their facility for over a year, they then denied my insurance claim after telling me to file one. They asked for a list of items that were lost, which lucky for them I am organized and kept a detailed sheet because they sure didn't after they boxed my stuff and stored it at their location for 1.5 years. When I presented them the list they said they wouldn't pay for it and to file a claim because it was "too many things." They stopped taking my phone calls, and only responded to me when I hired an attorney. Their driver, Jeff, is an absolute meth head, so beware because I'm fairly certain half my items are at this man's house. Before I physically moved, I recommended them to others because they were reasonably priced, they also lost my friends belongings and denied they ever did. Ironically enough they were all their electronics. Do you see the theme here? When my moving day arrived, the truck was an absolute mess. My stuff was all the way in the back when it should've been at the front because of what stop i was. As they were unloading the truck they were handing me things that weren't mine, which I denied, and then when they handed me my patio chairs I said "yes those are mine, but where is the table?" They denied having the table, I made the 3 lazy losers search the truck and "miraculously" it was found. They handed me the top of my side table and when I asked for the gold base, Jeff told me he gave it to the woman at the previous home, WHAT?! After pressing them for my items, and calling for days after my delivery, they found more of my boxes at the storage facility and told me Jeff, the junkie, would deliver them to my home.. well you can guess how that went. He sure didn't. My father and I had to personally drive to the home he was delivering to in West Palm Beach at 9pm because he spent the majority of the day ignoring my calls. I picked up my boxes in the kiddie of the street in some random neighborhood because that's where he left them for me. Real nice, right? Those weren't even the major items I was missing. They lost all of my bedding (pillows, comforter, sheets etc.), linens (blankets and sheets), decorative pillows for my couch, vacuums, they broke my flat screen tv, literally an entire corner of the tv is gone. They lost my kitchen ware, the list goes on. If you want to see your items ever again DO NOT move with this company. They will lose all your things and then try to gaslight you. They lie, steal and cheat people out of money. They claim they move from NY to FL all the time, but just steal your stuff on their way down 95, or just give it away to other people. read more

We used Al's movers two weeks ago, we scheduled a "white glove" service where they packed up our whole apartment for us. We had the best experience, they were on time and extremely professional. They wrapped all of our furniture. They called out any damages on our furniture that we had prior. Our dishes and kitchen ware were wrapped perfectly.
