I am enjoying my new Ballon Bleu 33 mm watch from Cartier via Alson Jewelers of Woodmere, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland). I had been having difficulty procuring it, as I wanted it to be vintage. The vintage one I found and had shipped to me did not work. I sent it back to 1st Dibs. I decided that the price difference between vintage and new was negligible, so decided to contact a reputable jewelry store which is a certified Cartier dealer. Isabelle was super-helpful in providing answers to my questions on the phone, so I decided to ask her to order it for me. She told me it'd be a week to arrive. In a week, it had arrived. I went into the store and spent a wonderful hour or more chatting about our love of jewelry and how symbolic certain pieces of jewelry can be. She knows her Cartier watches by model, size, materials and price. Truly, she didn't need to work her sales magic skills on me, as I have been looking for this watch for ages and knew immediately it was what I wanted. The credit card transaction was flawless, and I walked out with my new Ballon Bleu. I think that most anyone could work well with Isabelle, as she is careful, knowledgeable and very personable. Alson Jewelers has a comprehensive stock of many lines of fine jewelry. The new showroom is gorgeous, it is well-policed by professionals in security, one in a local municipal police uniform and one in a private security company's uniform. I felt that the shop is luxe and appeals probably to people younger than me (I'm 67), but I felt quite at home and welcomed by all. While we spoke, I sipped a good cup of coffee and had access to a "Candy Bar" with all manner of delicious snack-sized candies and chocolates. Very, very impressed with Alson Jewelers. If you are looking to buy jewelry, never go to a chain store ("He went to...Jar...head!"), go to a prosperous-looking individually-owned shop where repairs are done in-house. I do not recommend going here. First off I was treated like I shouldn't even be in the store due to my age. That has NOTHING to do with me making a living and being able to afford jewelry. Second, was treated like they thought I was some thug who was trying to steal. A lady who worked there came up and very rudely told me to take my hood from my jacket off. Keep in mind it was snowing/raining out pretty bad. I was not dressed out of ordinary. Third, the chain that I bought was horrible quality. After looking at it I can see a link has already been repaired. And it wasn't repaired good. I didn't even get to wear the jewelry before it was already broken. Then told I have to drive over an hour to drop it off and would have to come back an undetermined amount of time later to pay for the repair and pick it up. I will not be spending any more money at this store and will not even bother getting the piece repaired with them. Horrible service. read more

I received a call from the management regarding what happened with my necklace. Needless to say they were stunned that a sales clerk would have told me to wire cut a necklace that didn't clasp correctly. I was also told that I was given misinformation regarding shipping. The amount is graduated depending upon your purchase. They will deal with that individual. Meanwhile to make up for my loss they offered me the same necklace at a fraction of the cost, repair it and ship it for free. I was told that it would take a few days but I found they did it and overnighted it to me. I tried it on and it worked perfectly. From now on whenever I visit this store I will call ahead and check with management prior to talking to a sales rep. read more

Gentleman (didn't introduce himself) quoted me $75 for battery as if I couldn't afford it. (Get it, dress well here). Returned in 10 mins with watch. I was so disappointed when he hadn't even wiped it down. I took my 96 year old Grandma in to get her ring fixed today that my Grandfather got her for their 30th wedding anniversary. They were married 62 years until he passed away. I recently visited Alson's with my boyfriend with the intent of examining diamonds and engagement rings. We started our engagement ring shopping at Alson's because I remember the excellent service from them 10 years ago when my friend purchased his now wife's beautiful 2 ct engagement ring and wedding band from Alson's. However, during our visit this time, when we walked in, all sales assistants were busy. We headed to the diamond ring area and waited before having to find a sales assistant ourselves. The sales assistant seemed distracted and in a rush. I told her we would like to see a few different sizes, cuts and colors of rounds to compare. All she told me was that 'differences in color are not perceptible to the untrained eye'. I also asked to see some cushions and three stone rings- she just pointed to one third of the large store and said, "you can have a look- they'd be in this area". I visited 15-20 jewelers before Alson, including Tiffany, and just got a much more comfortable feeling when I was here. They have a very beautiful shop and don't worry about safety, there's almost always a police officer in the parking lot or at least close by. Then again, its Woodmere, you have a better chance of some ritzy housewife in her Mercedes broadsiding you walking out of the jeweler. Hit up B-Spot while you are in the neighborhood. read more
