    BLT and Mango Tango
    Kate N.

Although located in the little town of Ho-Ho-Kus, the interior almost makes you feel like you are sitting in SoHo or in the Meatpacking district. I adore how modern and trendy the inside of the cafe is designed. I especially like the cool lighting and animal portraits. I came here today for an early lunch, so it was very quiet and no one else was in the cafe except myself and my mother. I ordered a "BLT" (their BLTs do not have bacon, instead they have seasoned shiitake mushrooms, with arugula, tomato, and vegan mayonnaise), and my mother ordered the Mango Tango avocado toast. At first I ordered an iced coffee with coconut milk and white chocolate syrup, but I have to be honest their coffee is horrible. I told the cashier/barista that I didn't like the iced coffee and she suggested an iced latte. She was really nice and didn't give me a hard time about not liking the iced coffee at all. She prepared the iced latte for me, this time with oat milk and white chocolate syrup and it was a little better. My mother had a hot cappuccino, which she didn't enjoy. If you can't tell from this review so far, I don't recommend the coffee beverages highly. The food was brought to us fairly quickly and I must say it's pretty spectacular. The mushrooms on the BLT were really really good, and whatever seasoning they use does have a bacon-like taste. They didn't put a lot of mushrooms on the sandwich (felt they could of put more) and it was made on a sub roll, which I thought was a little odd for a BLT, but it was still good. My mother loved her mango avocado toast and we agree it was probably the best value out of everything on the menu. It came with three avocado toasts and a little arugula salad. All of the food tasted very fresh! I would definitely come back to Alt Eats Cafe. I would like to try the other avocado toasts that they have or one of the smoothies from the menu. I also want to make clear this place is not vegan, it is definitely vegetarian. I am neither vegan nor vegetarian, but I think it's important to for those that are vegan to be aware of. I do not suggest ordering anything coffee or espresso related. The food is where they really shine.

    "B"LT Was tasty

I appreciate a vegan establishment & had this place on my radar for sometime now but I wish my experience would have been better. The positives: vegan eats like donuts and empanadas and frittatas and Mac and cheese, you get the picture. Good stuff. My fav: the truffle Mac and cheese was solid! Delish The negatives: the staff wasn't familiar with what they were serving. On the menu board it read broccoli empanada. So I order one. When I cut it open it's definitely not broccoli so I let them know and ask what it is. I was told they didn't know. It seems they get them elsewhere and they came labeled broccoli so that's all they could tell me. This was awkward. Other con: the utensils are plastic. Not a fan of that but also there wasn't a knife in the place. I asked for one and was given one they found in the back (real not plastic) but yea not knives in the utensil station. That was weird. Aside from that though it's a cute lil place with vegan eats which is great. The "b"lt was also tasty as well as the avocado toast. It was difficult to eat with my one plastic fork and one metal knife. Have you ever tried eating with that combo of utensils? It's kinda weird. You must be quite mindful of the application of different amount pressure to each hand. Anyway go get their truffle Mac. Delish!

Avocado Toast (with Feta and Tomatoes)

I went to Alt Eats Cafe for lunch and got the Avocado Toast with Feta and Tomatoes (slightly different from the normal Avocado Toast). The toast itself was hard and difficult to cut. There was a very generous amount of avocado on the toast along with a couple cherry tomatoes, but nothing else on the toast. There was also some arugula with feta cheese on the side. The taste was just as you'd expect avocado on toast to taste like- nothing special. I probably could've made this toast myself with no cooking experience. For $10 though, this toast was a pretty good deal. The cafe seemed understaffed, as the cashier (who was the daughter of the owner) was also the one making the drinks. As a result, the service speed was slow. The cashier/drink maker/waitress was friendly. Overall, Alt Eats Cafe has decent lunch food (and the drinks looked decent, though I didn't try them). Nothing really stands out about this place, but I'm glad I gave them a shot.

Quinoa Buddha Bowl and Vegan Mac and Cheese

I came here with a friend for the first time and I would describe the overall experience as... underwhelming. The initial first impression of the restaurant is nice - it has modern, unique decor that makes the place feel like a high-end hipster restaurant in NYC. However, the service was very slow, even though my friend and I were the only customers there (at 10am on a Saturday, which for a brunch place, seems strange). When the food arrived, it was again underwhelming. I got a quinoa buddha bowl and my friend got the vegan mac and cheese, and both dishes tastes just ok. The flavors were on the bland side, and the ingredients didn't seem the freshest. Also, the portion sizes were small given the prices. Overall, I went in with high expectations and am sad to say that I was not impressed. Probably will not be returning.

So happy to discover this cozy, hospitable vegan eatery . Great lunch choices , friendly knowledgeable service and excellent food. I had the chickpea tuna hero , chai turmeric tea and delicious empanadas to go . Highly recommend!

So I'm not a vegan but I love to eat healthy when I can and this place hits the spot. Yummy food, friendly staff and a beautiful, clean environment. If your looking for a quiet place to work on you laptop I highly suggest this place. Plenty of outlets, WiFi and delicious food and beverages.

We stopped here recently while making a trip with you the area and was glad that we did. This is super cool little cafe with interesting drinks and light bites in the heart of downtown Ho-Ho-Kus. I got the rose quartz drink, which is a chai drink with rose water, and it was very tasty. The space is cozy and there're a few tables for outside seating under a nice sidewalk tree. I could definitely spend a while hanging out here.

The food is AMAZING. The ambiance is super hip! It's a small place, but at 2:45 on a Tuesday we were the only ones there for a while. I got the BLT and my sister got the gyro. She felt that it was a small portion for $10. We ordered the vegan Mac and cheese after our meal to try it out. It's the perfect portion and was absolutely delicious. Super creamy and "cheesy"! It's a bit pricey, but definitely worth it! We will definitely be returning with friends.

I finally checked this out after I had been following them on Instagram. Super trendy, cute, but small. I got the Mac and cheese and also a cupcake! Both were really delicious. I would highly recommend if you are vegan!

There's space to wait for your order too- so if it's cold or raining, there's room for you. They're open 7a-7p which is great. It was busy when I ran in today around 12:45p on a Sunday and that's always a good sign. It looks clean and the drinks I saw looked appetizing. The food menu sounds fantastic. The guy who helped me with my order was super nice. But I actually went in there on the hunt for something specific. It's the 2nd time I went in since they moved to the space across the street from where they were. The first time I stopped in quickly and saw they had what I was looking for but very few so I didn't buy anything. l had done a very difficult and time intensive Google search for Macaron Cafe macarons. They wholesale out of NYC and they're the best macarons ever. There are probably 6-7 places in Ridgewood that sell macarons, some that make them fresh baked. And none are as good as the ones from Macaron Cafe. Pre-covid I could find them locally pretty easily. But now, it's really hard. Most of the places that sell them put up a menu of the flavors that's very easily identifiable, and they carry the full line. By googling a photo of the menu I was able to find them in Fort Lee and American Dream and those are both too far. I'd gone into every single place that sells macarons in downtown Ridgewood except RCC and none of them have them. I finally made it into Ridgewood when RCC is open (we usually end up in Ridgewood after dinner and they're closed) and imagine my joy in seeing the macarons there. I can tell it's them instantly. Except - they only have like eight of the flavors! They don't advertise them. They don't have the menu up either, so they only way I could tell there might be a chance of them being there was an old photo of their counter from Yelp or Google. So, I didn't have any drinks or food. I just bought some macarons. And I would've bought more except that they didn't really have the flavors I wanted. There are generally around 28-32 flavors and they change/add/take away every few months/holidays, etc. My knocking a star is ONLY for the lack of flavors of these amazing macarons and only having a tease amount of flavors of them. And they should advertise their baked goods/desserts better, like in photos on instagram. They don't post enough of all their food. I had to just take a chance and come in from an old photo. I know I don't want to have to drive to American Dream mall for these macarons. And I know the girls behind me in line today were talking about how they came in for tiramisu.

The matcha einspanner caught my eye, but unfortunately the flavors fell short for me. The barista making my drink appeared to be newer (another barista ended up taking over to finish the drink), and the drink itself tasted overly milky with not enough matcha flavor. Maybe it was the whipped cream, but it felt diluted overall. On the other hand, my husband's New Orleans iced coffee was good, and my friends enjoyed their other coffee drinks as well. Next time, I'll skip the matcha and just stick with coffee.

We ordered coffee and a spinach feta pastry, which was served cold and tasted stale. Considering we were charged $12 per pastry, the quality was extremely disappointing. The most frustrating part was what happened next. About 10 minutes after we sat outside, another family was seated nearby and was served food from the kitchen without any issue. If the kitchen had become operational again, no one informed us or asked whether we would like to order anything else. Instead, staff repeatedly came to our table with the bill, even bringing the wrong bill the first time, making us feel rushed and unwelcome. The café was nearly empty, yet we received some of the poorest service I've experienced in New York or New Jersey.
