The few empty tables they had still had old plates and cups on them so one had to be cleaned for us. We think only one person was working as they were doing it all. Wings- delicious. Ripped seitan deep fried and crispy exterior with slightly soft insides. Flavored really well with a sweet chili dipping sauce and what appeared to be a buffalo style aioli on the sweet side. I could have eaten the whole plate- just wish there was a savory dipping sauce too. Kung Pao Fusion- amazing flavor, love anything with zucchini- and slight heat as well. The soy protein in this had great density and was filling. Curry- sliced crispy cutlet on top of a curry sauce with tofu and potatoes- very hearty and a great comfort dish. I think the cutlet was out of place and would have preferred the soy protein from the Kung Pao dish. Very generous portions and the food needs to be experienced fresh! So I've been going to vegan tree for about nine months and their food is absolutely angelic! Me personally I love their cheesesteak it's so juicy and delicious! There isn't a lot of ambience there unfortunately its kinda plain but that doesn't really matter you are gonna go there for the amazing food! The service there is nice all the people are good and you get your food pretty fast! It isn't a long wait either if you're picking up! I love most of their food and it's all scrumptious! The food there is super messy but all messy food is the best food! The restaurant is definitely recommended! The portions are huge too! Took me three days to eat one burger! Overall 9/10! read more

The service was good and they made the wrap quickly however it didn't seem that fresh and it was oily. It tasted pretty good as the seitan was deep fried but again not healthy vegan food. Was out and about and wanted a quick bite. I stumbled upon this restaurant on my way and decided to try it out. I was very pleasantly surprised. The flavor of the Kung Pao was divine and the meal was cooked to perfection. I asked for extra spicy and they added a nice kick to it. Albeit not as spicy as I truly like they managed to pack enough heat to satisfy my cravings whilst keeping the integrity of the plate. I have mixed feelings about the shake since the flavor was very soft, but it was enjoyable all the same. I did not taste like a Philly cheese steak, from what I can remember it taste like, this has a teriyaki spin to it and it was DEE-LISH-SHHUS. Couldn't give 5 stars...I paid $1 for the cheese and I wanted it on the side..a baby spoon had more cheese...fill the little condiment cup at least half way. It came with seasoned fries...unless over cooked is a seasoning...there was no seasoning at all. The smoke shop next door makes you want to leave ASAP..kinda sad. Vegan or not, just give them a try. This is our favorite vegan place around because they don't need to overall their food to give it flavor. There is nothing we have ordered that we didn't enjoy. Our favs: fried rice is amazing, scallion pancake with chili dipping sauce a must, onion pedals, fries, hot pot, dumplings, (they need to add the dumplings soup to uber eats or door dash, you can't order it for take out), falafel sandwich it perfect, 'chicken' Nuggets. Wishes.. the seitan beef is a bit too chewy. In both the beef and broccoli and particularly on the cheesesteak sandwich, when you bite into the sandwich it all comes off the roll because it's so chewy (great rolls for the sammies by the way, please don't change them). Not sure if it can be made more tender but that would be our wish :-). Also wish we could order the dumpling soup for delivery on Uber Eats or DD. Wonderful little find that's off the beaten path. Hidden away in a little strip mall this place serves a delightful mix of dishes that's sure to satisfy both vegans, vegetarians and those others just looking for a meatless experience. I've had the miso soup and the Buddha rice bowl which were both excellent. Only complaints were that they brought both plates out at the same time instead of waiting for me to finish the soup first. Also, the fake meat in the Buddha bowl changed between the two times I was there on the 18th and 25th. It went from looking like beef and having a good texture to looking like chicken and feeling squishy. I believe the man operating the place is the owner, chef, server, he does everything and is a man of few words. He doesn't need to since his food speaks for itself. It is simply defined. And I mean to say, you can taste every ingredient as they are all represented close to perfect. The next time I come in, I promise I will take a photo. I didn't grow up taking pics of food for any reason at all. I would have asked for Chopsticks, so I am not sure if there are any, but I was too greedily set on scarfing up my food with the tiny fork to care. Oh. My. Gosh. Vegan Tree... what a dream. My sister introduced me to Vegan Tree a couple years back. I haven't yelped over the years but now is the time!! My sister and I went on a Friday and got a couple dishes. Every dish is bursting with flavor and just has such a unique vegan tree flavor...!! Their sushi rolls are massive and filled with flavor. Their Caesar salad is the best vegan Caesar salad I've ever had in my 5 years of veganism. The croutons are so good and the meat they put on is so fire. The sauces vegan tree uses are delectable.. creamy and flavorful. Every component seems to be made in-house which completely changes the game! The servers are so sweet and respectful and kind. I've been here many times and have gotten a lot of different items off of the menu. Everything always hits! Some of my favorites are the vegan tree burger and happy Buddha!! Something's never change. Something's change. When Vegan Tree was Loving Hut they had slow service. The place is still slow. Just placing an order takes an hour. They never got us our spring rolls that we ordered which is strange because they are raw, uncooked meals. To make us happy they gave us a free scallion pancake that they made in excess. It was nice that they did that but I am not sure how wrapping up some lettuce in rice paper with tofu never got done. That being said. I got the Buddha Bowl and boy was it delicious. It had delicious seitan with al dente fresh vegetables. The rice pilaf was great too. I particularly love the level of spice the dish had. It left me with a perfect post meal burn. My partner got the wonton soup which also was a pleasant surprise. The broth was nearly perfect. Not salty. Full of vegetable flavor. The dumplings were the best part of the dish. Chewy with delicious filling. The only thing that was over the top was the amount of seaweed that I think coulda been a bit less generous. When this place was Loving Hut it served oily salty food that was overpriced. Now they serve clean food. Full of flavor. Cooked remarkably well. I don't give them 5 stars because of the slow service. Which I guess won't really ever change unless. Just prep yourself 1.5-2 hours of wait for something like a stir fry. read more

My boyfriend comes to Vegan tree almost everyday because it is so delicious!! I've tried the BLT, sriracha burger, and the veggie tempura roll, and all were super yummy!! We also tried their Boston cream donut which was also perfectly sweet and creamy :) The BLT was super fresh, didn't taste like actual bacon but it was crispy and delicious, well balanced with the lettuce, tomatoes, and dressing. This is our GO TO vegan spot when we visit my mom in the Matawan area! The prices are great and the food is consistently delicious. All of the appetizers are really yummy and worth a try! My favorite is the scallion pancake appetizer. It's nice and crispy on the outside and full of flavor on the inside. The side of sweet chili sauce is a great addition to the pancake. My favorite meal I get is the BLT with Michael's seitan. That seitan is DELICIOUS. You would think you're eating meat, it's CRAZY! The seitan is crispy and meaty in the inside! My boyfriend usually gets the Philly cheesesteak and substitutes the meat in it for the seitan. The French fries on the side (you have a choice of salad as well) are always crispy and my kind of fries! My boyfriend gets the fried rice a lot as well But I did not take a picture (maybe I will update with one next time.) The veggies are fresh & the rice is cooked so well and it's PACKED with flavor. For dessert, they have so many from Vegan Treats. The cheesecake on the stick (Not pictured) tastes like a creamy Oreo cheesecake and the cannolis tastes like a normal cannoli. I really like their won ton soup because the dumplings are amazing, but you can also order the dumplings as an appetizer if you do not want the soup. My husband and I enjoyed this small hole in the wall restaurant! The service was a little slow for the fact that there was only One other table besides us... But that is OK. When we got the menus we both immediately decided to try one thing each and I went for the curry and he got the wrap. Our food came out fairly quickly and the quality was excellent. The taste was great and the presentation was even better. I would definitely be coming back to this restaurant and would love to bring other people to try it. I have been coming to Vegan Tree (and the similar former restaurant in this location called Loving Hut) for years -- and I will say that it is a good thing to have close by, especially when I work from home and want a quick lunch or worked a long day and I don't feel like cooking. The food is tasty and vegan but I equate it more to vegan fast food -- some high in sodium, carbs, or oil -- like definitely not what I would call health food. Don't get me wrong, we vegans like fast food too but in general, I would much prefer fresher, cleaner and organic instead. I think perhaps the hesitation to make a more extensive and better menu may be due to lack of customers and feeling that if hardly anyone comes now, then surely no one will come with a higher end menu (higher prices) but I think the store's complete lack of marketing is a huge factor in why it's so dead in there all the time. If I owned that store I would be promoting and plugging it all over town. I know TONS of people who like to eat healthy and who would be interested in fresh, healthy organic vegan food -- but not so many wanting carby falafel sandwiches with fries. But regardless, if i mention to anyone that I went to Vegan Tree, the response is ALWAYS ... Where is that ?! No one knows this place exists except for a small population of people -- and it's odd because it's in a popular shopping area. So my thoughts are to do more marketing and add some healthier items. Also, train the kids behind the counter to be good ambassadors for veganism as well as good at customer service. For example, being professional, saying thank you, taking time to explain the menu in detail and what the ingredients are, dressing professionally (wearing a hoodie at work behind the counter is a thumbs down), etc. I have literally seen a customer who never ate vegan food before come in, ask for the menu and inquire to the worker as to what many things were or how they tasted but Instead of an enthusiastic explanation of what things were --- she got one word, Ho hum responses that basically turned her off so she said "ok, thank you -- maybe some other time" and walked out and bought nothing. That was a lost customer--- money lost from her and anyone else that she now tells her story to. They say in marketing that a customer who has a positive experience tells one person but if they have a negative experience, they tell 7. So maybe give some training to those that work there. read more

I am REALLY glad I came across this gem. It's not easy to find delicious vegan food at affordable prices, especially in this area. I had the sriracha burger & my mom had the falafel burger. Food was great fresh at the restaurant & our leftovers tasted great too. I was blown away by the vegan sushi, we got the veggie tempura sushi as well. I'm not vegan, but I've tried a lot of vegan foods and this was one of my favorites, not just for the taste but the price too. Portions are great for the price. I'm looking forward to my next visit! Only thing I would recommend is if you are ordering take out call in advance, since you have to wait a little. I didn't find the wait unbearable, since I much rather wait for great food than get mediocre quickly served food. I tried Veganized in New Brunswick and their food was good too, but I paid $18 for my burger and fries and waited a lot less. At Vegan Tree, I got a bigger portion for $11. I enjoy eating here- some dishes are better than others- and they deep fry too many things... like the chick'n on your salad. But overall- tasty and fresh, and as a vegan I appreciate the option! This restaurant is great for many reasons. My grandparents found this restaurant and my fiancé and I joined them for dinner. The food was amazing. Anything that says spicy definitely has a kick to it!! My grandmother has ciliac's and they were super accommodating. They checked with the chef about ingredients for every question we had! Unbeknownst to me, my grandparents called ahead and made some plans for my birthday. The server turned off the lights and everyone sang happy birthday while bringing out the cake my grandparents bought from Papa Ganache (which is a few blocks away).
