Never will there be another one like Cheryl Baber Thompson and I hope Madam Turk can fulfill her duty as the greatest and biggest teacher at Shivela so far. (No pun intended am I right Crystal?) My kids have had fun times here and my last daughter is leaving this year. I'll miss what my kids call "Papa Hamm" or "Big Brett BARTlett." Some may even call the assistant principal Mr. Brown the "Boot Duster Brown" as in he dusts boots. No idea what that means. We love Mr. Brown in this household. Anyways, thanks mama bear Cheryl for all you did. I'll miss you and your pigtails that showed your scalp and made my kids want to "throw up." Their words, not mine. Love and wishes!

I did not get a single call, email or did anyone try to reach out to me from school today to tell me about this incident. Instead, I get an email from her teacher about her not finishing her 3 coloring pages she was given during class time. The same class time she got sexually touched? I wouldn't finish my work either! When I brought it up to the teachers attention about what I was told, she told me she was AWARE of the incident, told administration and assumed they would have relayed the message. NOPE! Not only did the teacher NOT bring it up to my attention, but ADMINISTRATION couldn't either??? She said "it was being handled appropriately" I'm sorry, in what way? Because as the parent of the child who got wrongly touched, I would've expected a call regarding a boy and inappropriate behavior! But I received nothing! In the 3 months she's been at this school, I can get an email over her talking and not finishing her work. But I can't get an email when another student touches her in a way no 7 year old should EVER be touch? In first grade? My girl having to tell me about what other kids are doing to her at this school? Innocent or ignorant? Let's not even get started on her getting bullied and punched in the eye by a girl in her class! For the sake of underage children, I'll block out the names. But here's the email I got in response to my concern and frustration in the school! I'm disappointed in this school, disappointed in the administration and staff. But most importantly, disappointed in the boy who learned such wrong behavior from the people who are supposed to teach him right and wrong!

New story, my son was assaulted at the school on their last day before winter break, it was reported, and somehow got around to me. I called the school and requested information as I was at work and my husband out of town. I received a call back from the assistant principal, who said that my son and I were lying. When I asked why he had a long scratch on his face, the assistant principal said she had didn't know what I was talking about and asked how I knew this information. I told her my son had a big red cut along the side of his face and was bleeding, which is why he was sent to the nurses office. She said she didn't see anything, then said it could've happened elsewhere. All in all, I got no answers. I will continue to push this forward and hopefully the district finally listens. I have photos and emails of the reports as I always keep receipts.

I would email ms.cindy and the respond was always that she'll ask who ever my son was with that day or she'll say that they don't remember seeing my son fall or anything. She would send my son home with a sweater that wasn't his sometimes, his water bottle went "missing" at school somehow, and when it came to IEP meetings she would schedule, but would forget to cancel or would try and act like I forgot we had an IEP meeting whenever she did. During the meetings she seemed unprepared. I now know never to sign an IEP until it's all in paper because teachers say one thing, but write another thing in the IEP. At the end of the school year she kept suggesting for my son to attend another school. Did I forget to mention she called cps claiming my son had belt marks, hand marks, and bruises on him? He didn't.

Furthermore, Sherry Marino was instructed by Mical Bell Andrews to not allow my son, that has known health issues, to go to the health room or call home when he was ill. This was brought to my attention by employees and I have declarations from several faculty. My son suffers from chronic stomach issues and was witnessed sitting through his lunch AND recess with his head on the table in pain after being refused to go to the health room. This school is horrible and nobody seems to want to talk about. I will not be quiet about the continued abuse these poor children are experiencing. When I addressed these issues I was met by a noncaring board member named Jennifer Bursch that could care less about the abuse my son had been through. Her emails were cruel and denying without any concern whatsoever for the truth or facts. I am beside myself at the non Christlike actions of this school and their board of directors. This school has done nothing but deteriorate since Mical Bell was allowed to reside as principal.

Be aware- THEY DO NOT HAVE WEEKEND OR AFTER HOURS CARE LIKE THEY ADVERTISE. On your tour, note the green snot dripping out of every child's nose. Caretakers do not wipe noses, sanitize hands or sanitize the toys and surfaces in the room. Hand foot and mouth, lice, and respiratory infections are running rampant at this center due to poor sanitation standards. The building has been next to a lake for over twenty years and is likely riddled with mold. However, the holiday decorations seem to be of the most importance. You will often see your child's teacher scraping paint off the windows, rather than engaging with your child. Try and see past the glitz and glamour and watch for signs of neglect. Request without notice to watch your child's potential classroom, or current room, on the video cameras available to the staff only. They charge for Christmas and New Years weeks when they are closed. They close an average two days per month and charge you for them leaving you without care for your child. Other additional charges: Late payment fee, missed punch fee, late pickup fee, staff development days (tuition collected, school closed), activity fees, "donations" that are charged to your account for their tax deductions. Teachers arrive late, do not show up at all, or are called off to condense rooms together to save on payroll. Children are often not with "their" teacher and ratios exceed the legal limits. Employee cards and parent punches are later adjusted by staff to appear within the law. I was late to work a dozen times to work because there was not adequate care at drop off in the mornings. Just an empty room. I requested a credit on my child's account and was screamed at on speaker phone in the office at drop off by the owner Angelina Anton, far from an Angel, "no, and your family is no longer a fit for our center, you need to leave now". That's how they handled opportunities to improve, they remove them. If you're looking for a Christ centered Daycare, this is not it. They play Christian music and lie to your face. These folks are doing dark work. ..they advertise a ratio of 1:4 for toddlers and most days the ratio is 1:12 or more! Twelve toddlers for one person to feed, change diapers, supervise on a playground, and give individual attention to. Most teachers are there because they receive free or discounted care for their own children, who are prioritized whilst paying children are neglected. At both locations my child was neglected for an entire eight hour day, as an infant, and a toddler. No diaper change, no food, no water. The staff, including both Directors and assistant directors take zero accountability for their mistakes, because they don't want to be sued. The first week my infant was at this center, he was not strapped into his high chair and fell down three feet on to his head. I was not called, he was not taken to urgent care for possible brain bleed. Pediatrician confirmed he was injured, school changed their story multiple times to avoid accountability. This place is great if you don't care about your child's well-being. The adults who attended this center as a child twenty years ago, refuse to enroll their own children here. That speaks volumes.

The first one was when I was in kindergarten, literally everyone was going behind the building, so I followed as a 5 year old child. The aide at the time yelled at only certain people and told us to put our clips down to red. In kindergarten, this is a big deal. Another incident I can recall was in 3rd grade at the library. I didn't know books at the time had built in bookmarks and I politely asked for the librarian to cut it off because I thought someone placed it there. She says to me rudely, "No!" and gave me a nasty look as she walked away. My brother also got bullied here for a while and they barely did anything. Other than those incidents and some more minor ones, school here was pretty fun and nice. Though, I heard one of the teachers here was a pedophile.

Yes, Bev (the FORMER front office clerk) wasn't the most friendly person you run into but after my sons first year I had a great relationship with her. If you treat people with respect, you get respect in return. That's clear in some of these reviews that there was no rapport or relationship with any of these people and the school. Are you surprised the school told you no to pull your kid out because you missed them??? Wait 2 hours and enjoy them after school. The school doesn't owe you anything...ever...except to keep you child safe while they learn. And this school does both very well. Highly rated be Great Schools for a reason. My family has only ever had one teacher we didn't care for and her contract was not extended from what I understand. The staff and administration do care for these kids and do a wonderful job educating them both academically and socially. My 10-year-old son was the target of a verified racist incident where two students programmed a school-issued iPad to say "Amir is a N-word" out loud during class in front of students and staff. According to administration, the incident was confirmed and the students admitted to it. What has been most disappointing is not only the incident itself, but also the handling and communication afterward. When I initially contacted the school trying to get information regarding this serious situation, I was told by the front office that the Assistant Principal was out sick and that the Principal was not aware of or tracking the incident because it is "a big school." During my later conversation with Principal Jenniffer Aynesworth, I was informed that information was inaccurate. I also felt dismissed during my attempts to get answers as a concerned parent advocating for my child. Instead of immediately treating this situation with the seriousness it deserved, the communication was inconsistent and at times felt unprofessional. Principal Jenniffer Aynesworth further informed me that the school would not remove or relocate the students responsible "because of one student." I was also told that if my son felt uncomfortable remaining around the students involved, my son would instead be moved from the classroom. As a parent, that is unacceptable to me. A child who experiences racial harassment should not feel like they are the one being displaced while the students responsible remain comfortable in the same environment. This situation has emotionally affected my son deeply. He spent the night crying because he was hurt and struggling to understand why this happened to him. Parents deserve to know how situations involving racism, student safety, and parent concerns are handled before deciding where to send their children.

Two stars minus due to the children have to eat outdoors with the cold/hot weather and bugs. No indoor cafeteria really strange. Second star is due to pick up rules...can't pick up at main gate need to park illegally and walk over, not safe. They lock the gate! Strange system.
