We visited Alteatude after seeing a bunch of people walking through downtown Estes Park drinking boba from cups emblazoned with the Alteatude logo. Who says advertising doesn't work? This shop isn't like a typical modern boba shop. Instead, the interior is very reminiscent of a classic coffee shop - warm and cozy with plenty of tables and seating. I noticed tins filled with tea leaves above an espresso machine, making me believe that they brew both espresso and tea in the machine. I didn't see them making my drink though! Alteatude, 24oz, 50% Sweet ($8.80) - Starting with the good, the milk tea is pretty decent. It doesn't have the strongest tea flavor but I can tell there's a slight bit of assam fruity undertones. The bobarista told me that they use 30cc of fructose in regular drinks. I don't really know what that correspond to so I went ahead and asked for half sweet which I found to be quite pleasant. They add non dairy creamer to bulk up the drink. It's mixed well and not added in enough quantity to make the drink gritty. Surprisingly the ice level is good at full with only a couple of small chips remaining after completely cooling down. Now onto the bad. This drink comes with one topping which of course we went with the boba. Unfortunately the boba here is terrible. While I appreciate that they marinate the pearls well, making them sweet and giving them a soft sticky coating, most are extremely undercooked with pebble-like and chalky interiors. They are almost raw in the center. The pearls also stick together into larger blocks which isn't great. For some reason, some of the tapioca balls seem to be more cooked than others making me wonder if they mix boba batches together. Milk Tea Rating: 4/5 Boba Rating: 1/5 Over $10 after tax and tip for this quality of boba ehhh. Then again this is the only actual boba shop in Estes Park so there's not exactly any other choice. This was our first stop before doing some shopping, and it ended up being a great choice! From start to finish, the experience was solid. The staff was kind and patient (shoutout to them for answering all my many questions with grace!), and our drinks came out quickly. The shop itself is cute with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area is definitely a vibe, it's right by the water, so it has that calm, serene energy. Bonus points for the music, they were jamming! I was not expecting to hear some of the oldies they played, but I was in there catching a full vibe. Now, on to what really matters: the drinks. We ordered the: Cheesy Bee and White Peach Oolong Tea with Blueberry Hearts. Both were delicious! I'm a sucker for a creamy soft top, and the one on the Cheesy Bee was perfect--light, fluffy, and just the right contrast to the tea. My only small tweak for next time would be to adjust the sweetness level. I went with the default, but I think 75% would've hit the spot for me personally. The boba itself had a great consistency, chewy, fresh, and no complaints there. As for the peach oolong, we loved it. The blueberry hearts were not only adorable but also really fun to eat. A cute little detail that made the drink feel extra special. They also had a few snack options in the fridge by the register if you're looking to pair your drink with a bite. They ran out of boba. Which, I understand happens. But they handed us these drinks with like, no more than 15 bobas total in each, without saying anything to us asking if they could offer us something different. Like we wouldn't notice the 5 drinks prior to ours filled 1/4 of the way. We decided to ask them for more and they said they truly had none left to offer us. At this point they should have let us keep the drinks and offered us a refund seeing as we did not get what we paid for. Instead, they put fruit bobas into my taro milk tea. It was terrible. My mom had ordered mango, she said hers was still good. My primary issue is not getting what I paid for, but having to pay for it anyways. Should have been refunded for their mistake. Unfortunately their solution made my drink undrinkable. read more

Great experience here! Barista was helpful with questions I had. Drinks are quality. The peach oolong tea is delicious and has some sweetness on its on without adding anything. Also good with a little peach syrup (0.5 ounce syrup is what I asked for). The tapioca pearls are not very consistent, some are very hard and chewy and others are soft, so that was a little bit of a bummer. The mango drink advertised with the popping boba is very good. They have been open only a day and a half but I have high hopes. They have opened a clean and welcoming place. They mostly have Boba Tea but offer other drinks as well. They also offer some pastries. We chatted for a bit. The entire staff was very friendly. I plan to wander by as often as I can. I'll update this in a few months and see what is new. I am glad I checked them out. Instead of shutting me down when asking for "the drink in the ad", the two lovelies - who I had the absolute pleasure of interacting with - took time to interpret and envision my ask. They did not say "we can't actually do that, it's just a staged promo product"; they explained what they COULD do instead. Creative solutioning at its best! A million thank you's! And, the bobo tea you created deserves to be on the menu permanently!!! Estes Park is charming for reasons like this, the people who work at Alteatude. They create unique and magical drinks, yes! Inside looks very clean and staff was attentive; however, my drink was not good. I chose the fruit tea and asked for half the sweetness. She told me the drinks are made of syrup and tea and it won't be too sweet. So I left everything as is but it turned out super sweet. I had to ask for a half cup of water to water it down. I stopped by this cafe for the first time today to try the Golden Oolong Milk Tea and it was absolutely delicious!! The subtle oolong peach flavor is incredibly refreshing and the quality of the boba pearls was outstanding (cooked perfectly and tasted amazing). If you have never tried boba before, the workers will explain the differences between each flavor in detail and even let you know what combos are best! The staff are all super friendly and very engaged in each customer's experience :)!
