I used Alter Ego Eatery for my dessert caterer for my wedding and for part of my rehearsal dinner and now have my go to spot for any occasions or just to full-fill my pastry cravings! Their shop atmosphere is perfect for getting coffee/tea with friends or managing business affairs. I love that the menu changes with the season. You can really see the creativity and ingenuity with the ingredients used, I can't believe that they not only accommodate so many dietary restrictions but they all taste SO GOOD and it is all ethically sourced! Kayla the proprietor is great to work with! For our wedding we wanted just a sampling of what they do best and boy did she deliver! The only reason we had anything left of our desserts was because someone made a goodie box for us which we took on our honeymoon! I feel our pictures from our cake cutting though say all that needs to be said! We also got a tray of meatballs for our rehearsal dinner (it's apparently a family recipe!) and they were GONE even though we had gotten a massive tray! From there I've also used them for custom cakes for special occasions and have found a great collaborator who truly turns your vision into reality. Yes, just yes! 5 stars all around : from selection, to staff, to taste! I got a campfire brownie, a cinnamon roll, and a donut. Plenty of vegan options AND allergens are clearly marked. Amazing bakery! If you're in need of gluten-free baked goods, this is the spot. Even if you're not in need of specifically allergen friendly, their stuff is still delicious. Also coffee offerings are also great. Also great for special orders - we recently used for a custom cake and they did a wonderful job and everyone in our family was pleased. Kayla (Biscotti Brewers) did my wedding cake almost 2 years ago now and it was AMAZING. It was exactly what we asked for/ like the selections we made from our tasting. She was a dream to work with, completely professional, and asked all the right questions to help us customize our final vision. She also took the time on our wedding day to personally add some of our floral pieces to the cake/stage it. As far as finally stopping into the eatery, I was so excited today and it did not disappoint. My BLT sandwich was one of the best BLTs I've ever had. The GF bread was everything any bread should be, the bacon was crispy, tomato slices were quality, lettuce I believe was butter lettuce (yum), and remoulade was tangy. My cold brew was great (loved the cinnamon). Plus I got to enjoy my breakfast on the cute patio vs. inside due to preference. I had to bring some goodies home as well. There is NOTHING like the GF products that come out of this eatery anywhere near here that I know of. All the breads were mind blowing. I'll be making regular trips for myself and my GF relatives, and can't wait to try more of the sweets in the future. read more

First to review Biscotti Brewers?? How is that possible? These folks are fantastic and if you aren't preordering their GF goodies weekly, joining in on their pop-ups, and partaking of their holiday specials you are seriously missing out! I first discovered Kayla and her fabulous gluten-free treats at one of Rochester's farmers markets where she was selling her signature biscotti, plus GF muffins. I have tried a LOT of GF sweets in my time avoiding gluten, and Kayla has the touch - her items are full of flavor with a pleasing texture, not gritty or dry. Fast forward to Thanksgiving time last year and I ordered a GF holiday galette, filled with squash, kale and stuffing all tucked into a pie crust, a GF vegan pumpkin pie (so yummmmmmy!!), extra gravy, cranberry sauce, and a baguette. While everything was delicious, that baguette changed my life!! Kayla's GF baguette was the closest to a 'real baguette' I've had - great texture, great crust and great taste. I cut it into 4 pieces, toasted them and had sandwiches, garlic bread and paninis. After Xmas I got another and then forgot about it in my fridge for a week. I unwrapped it and it still looked perfect; gave it a little rinse in cold water and popped it in the oven and it baked up as though it was fresh. Incredible. I was so happy!! I'm now a fan and feel confident branching out, getting items I might not have tried before out of fear for texture and taste issues. Kayla is my go to for party foods, and when I am going to a friend's where I know there will be tempting non-GF bread, I always take my own baguette so I can enjoy guilt free. Definitely recommend you check her out. Ordering online is easy, food quality is excellent, and if you have been searching and searching for decent GF options (especially baguettes!!) you will not be disappointed! read more

I'm going to post this review with 4 stars even though I didn't love my 2 visits, because I don't want to ruin their stars on my taste buds. They didn't do anything wrong, really. It's me, not you. Possibly. I went to Alter Ego last week and brought home the mango key lime bar. I didn't care for it at all and didn't eat past a few bites which is not like me at all. And I'm usually a big fan of sweets and treats. I'd been wanting to try their prickly pear iced latte since I saw it a few days ago, so today was the day. My favorite iced lattes are the fruity flavors, raspberry, blueberry, I also like the somewhat odd lavender lattes so I thought I'd love prickly p. But nope, it tased like rotten fruit and not even much like coffee. Maybe that's just what p pear tastes like. I also got a slice of tiramisu, one of my all time favorite desserts. Well the edges were very stale all the way around despite being lined with paper. I sliced off each edge and ate the middle, but the middle was fairly dry as well with no coffee flavor. It was unlike any tiramisu I'd had before. The brownie cup was soft and rich and dark and fudgey and delicious. I'd eat 27 more of them. They seemed somewhat confused or inconvenienced when I paid with cash, so I'm not sure what that's about. I know this seems like a lot of complaints for a newly opened business. I will definitely go back and try a few more things and hopefully give a better rating next time. I do wish them well. read more

Stopped in for late breakfast this past Sunday. This is the third time I have been here and we are incredibly lucky to have this eatery here! We ordered three different specialty coffees ( the barista recommended the sweet potato latte and it was magnificent) as were the other two coffees we ordered. We had the French toast ( no words to describe the taste and plating) and two of the vegetarian breakfast strata's (fantastic) we also did some "shopping" and bought some dried pastas in fun shapes ( great selection of gf foods) Saw the ricotta stuffed shells and had to get them. ( easy peasy .. tossed them in the oven and dinner was served ) ( soooo happy to be able to have a gluten free meal to take home... and again, amazing flavor , presentation ) a few sweets to take home ( cinnamon bun) we are in heaven! All Gluten free: jalapeno bagels, pecan squares,and cheesecake were all absolutely delicious. I always stop by at 2:45 just before they close & always feel so welcomed with their positive, professional, relaxed vibe. I frequent Alter Ego and during each visit I find new delicious choices that are always impressive. Biscotti Brewers did all the food and desserts for our wedding (130 guests) and knocked it out of the park! The dinner was amazing (we went Mexican buffet and it was so delicious), the desserts were both cute and tasty, and guests raved about the charcuterie spread. Kayla was great to work with--my fiancé and I were long distance and neither of us was in New York, so it was a lot of Zoom calls, and BB's staff was friendly and competent and added zero stress to the day of the wedding itself.
