Custom wedding cake, almond torta caprese with lemon curd and and almond Italian meringue buttercream frosting (Sept. '22)
    Carina N.

Kayla (Biscotti Brewers) did my wedding cake almost 2 years ago now and it was AMAZING. It was exactly what we asked for/ like the selections we made from our tasting. She was a dream to work with, completely professional, and asked all the right questions to help us customize our final vision. She also took the time on our wedding day to personally add some of our floral pieces to the cake/stage it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As far as finally stopping into the eatery, I was so excited today and it did not disappoint.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My BLT sandwich was one of the best BLTs I've ever had. The GF bread was everything any bread should be, the bacon was crispy, tomato slices were quality, lettuce I believe was butter lettuce (yum), and remoulade was tangy. My cold brew was great (loved the cinnamon). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plus I got to enjoy my breakfast on the cute patio vs. inside due to preference.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had to bring some goodies home as well. There is NOTHING like the GF products that come out of this eatery anywhere near here that I know of. All the breads were mind blowing. I'll be making regular trips for myself and my GF relatives, and can't wait to try more of the sweets in the future.

I'm going to post this review with 4 stars even though I didn't love my 2 visits, because I don't want to ruin their stars on my taste buds. They didn't do anything wrong, really. It's me, not you. Possibly. I went to Alter Ego last week and brought home the mango key lime bar. I didn't care for it at all and didn't eat past a few bites which is not like me at all. And I'm usually a big fan of sweets and treats. I'd been wanting to try their prickly pear iced latte since I saw it a few days ago, so today was the day. My favorite iced lattes are the fruity flavors, raspberry, blueberry, I also like the somewhat odd lavender lattes so I thought I'd love prickly p. But nope, it tased like rotten fruit and not even much like coffee. Maybe that's just what p pear tastes like. I also got a slice of tiramisu, one of my all time favorite desserts. Well the edges were very stale all the way around despite being lined with paper. I sliced off each edge and ate the middle, but the middle was fairly dry as well with no coffee flavor. It was unlike any tiramisu I'd had before. The brownie cup was soft and rich and dark and fudgey and delicious. I'd eat 27 more of them. They seemed somewhat confused or inconvenienced when I paid with cash, so I'm not sure what that's about. I know this seems like a lot of complaints for a newly opened business. I will definitely go back and try a few more things and hopefully give a better rating next time. I do wish them well.

She raved about them when she was back in the office. I mentioned recently that I would be in the area where this store is located, and also just casually offered to stop by the bakery if she wanted anything. She was GIDDY. Not only that, but she quickly logged onto their website to check their menu so that she could send me with a list of a couple cupcake flavors she was craving (as well as cookie types). Hahaha. The bakery itself is fairly easy to find - and the inside is charming, while also easily displaying cookies, cupcakes, cake-types, and a variety of bread-related options. I stocked up on the 4 cupcake flavors (vanilla, chocolate, lemon, and marble), as well as 6 of the cutout cookies, for my colleague (big 'ol check next to everything on her list), and then picked out a couple of cookie flavors for myself (chocolate crinkle, snickerdoodle, and butter cookie), as well as an almond cupcake and banana nut mini loaf. The total cost was perfectly reasonable (especially for these being gluten free). I was able to enjoy my almond cupcake a short time later and OOOOOOOHHHH my goodness. Sometimes you can tell that items are gluten free... they're crumbly, or sometimes just dry and lacking in flavor... but this cupcake was NONE of those things. Had I not purchased it from the bakery myself, I never would have known or suspected that it was gluten free. The cupcake was the perfect texture, and the frosting was just the right amount of sweetness. TL;DR Delightful selection of baked goods. I don't need to eat gluten free for any reason, but I would absolutely stop here again any time - and stock up again, for sure!

Fish was fried with a thin crispy batter, cornstarch and tasted great. Clean place inside and out. Looks like a real fun place to visit in nice weather with the outside seating. One person in our party is celiac and the fish fry was so welcome. Whether you've got a gluten intolerance or not - this fish fry is fabulous. We got there around 4:30 for a very early dinner and the place was empty - couldn't figure out why given the quality of the food. By the time we left it was hoppin'. Good to know others know a good thing when they see/eat it! Thanks Johnny's for a great meal.

We all found something to love here. We started with the pickled things, served in the cutest mismatched china. Everything was delicious, but the carrots were the standout -- so good we joked about drinking the pickling liquid. We also tried the Pink Lemonade and the Strawberry Alarm Clock juices, both incredibly fresh and vibrant. You could taste every ingredient. Since we couldn't decide on just one entrée, we split the Thai Kale Salad and the Buddha Bowl (with added mushrooms and avocado). The Thai Kale Salad was everything you want it to be -- bright, flavorful, and impossible to stop eating. We were sure it would be the star of the meal. Then the Buddha Bowl arrived. The smoky tofu, creamy coconut rice, perfectly dressed kale, and all the veggies worked together beautifully. But the real showstopper was the added mushrooms -- so rich and full of depth that we nearly fought over them. We enjoyed everything out on their patio and left already planning our next visit. A wonderful meal all around.
