Post bball-tourney for the mini-she lunch ... finally checking out Hollycake House--Happy Mothers Day!
    Tara K.

I have followed Hollycake House on Facebook for some time now, enjoying all those photos of their delectable dishes and treats. We are Buffalonians, and I don't make it to Rochester too often, so hadn't actually been in. But we were recently in Penfield on Mother's Day for our daughter's basketball tournament, and stumbled on the realization that Hollycake House was just a mile and a half from the venue. So it was finally my time to see all of those pictures of Hollycake House food come to life! :-D Hollycake House is in a sort of brick office complex building and is easy to miss, as the building it is in is a fairly nondescript brick box. Hollycake House has a couple tables out front of their entrance that you can watch for, at lest during warmer weather. There is parking along the side of the building where Hollycake is located, as well as a large lot out back. Inside, ordering is counter ordering. The menu is on the wall, but paper menus are available to step away from the line and study all of the options. There are about a half-dozen tables to dine in, which are located in the common area of the office complex just outside the inner door of Hollycake House. The menu is 100% vegan. Much of the menu is made in-house, like the seitan and sausage vegan meats, as well as the vegan egg patties. There is both savory foods, like breakfast and lunch sandwiches, paninis, and soups, as well as a variety of desserts like danish, cookies, and of course cakes. All of the baked goods are homemade. The cafe menu also includes a variety of hot and cold coffee drinks, smoothies, and spritzers. For food, our son ordered the Avocado Toast, our daughter ordered The Venetian sandwich, I ordered The San Crancisco sandwich, and my husband had the The Rose Chick'n Salad Sandwich. We were ALL smiles ALL around the table. The sandwiches were all a good size, fresh, and entirely tasty. My sandwich had a sausage and egg patty, both made in-house, and both excellent quality. Sometimes vegan sausage can be rubbery, and eggs spongy, but not here! The sausage patty was meaty and chewy in a way entirely satisfying, and the eggs were fluffy and delicious as well. Of course we had to try some baked goods too, I mean, this is HollyCAKES! :-D I had a lilac earl grey flavored cupcake that was divine. The subtle lilac and tea flavors were delightful in the airy cake and smooth frosting. I shared a funfetti cake cup with my son, which was chunks of funfetti cake, frosting, and sprinkles all combined in a cup. That was yum too, very moist but still springy cake with a solid sweetness that was just right. My daughter enjoyed her chocolate cupcake and cookies too. I'm so happy that happenstance had us within a couple miles away from Hollycake House on Mother's Day! And now that I know how delicious those social media photos are in real life, it is well worth the drive to visit Hollycake House again! On top of the sensational food, the super-sweet staff was so welcoming and patient, the restaurant was clean and bright, and the prices were very reasonable for the top-quality vegan food served here. But this place isn't just for vegans; anyone who likes delicious well-made sandwiches and/or sweet treats will enjoy Hollycake House! :-D

What a really great place with a lot of options. Fresh made sandwiches and soups and lattes and desserts. Great gluten free options here. The brownies and gluten free cupcakes were a favorite!

I tried a new cafe and bakery today called Hollycake House. First, the owners and staff are amazing and so helpful it reminded me of the tv show Cheers where "everyone knows your name!" But I would like to talk about the flavorful vegan food I just devoured while sitting on the beach. Hollycake House's sandwiches, drinks, and baked goods are perfect for beach picnics :) The Venetian breakfast sandwich married so many great flavors together between the egg, spinach, tomato, violife cheese, BeLeaf bacon, pesto (tastes out of this world in comparison to other pesto's I've had), and the everything bagel. The lunch menu also offered up some palate teasing options such as the Portobello Mushroom Burger, it is now my favorite! Whatever marinade or spices they used on the portobello danced on my tongue similar to the tango. I also tried the Purple Haze drink which had butterfly pea powder, lemon juice, and club soda over ice. It was tart and refeshing and perfect for a muggy summer day when you can't seem to cool yourself off. The color is also bright and makes me smile. If you have a chance please go to Hollycake House and give it a try. Take it to the beach which is 18 mins away and enjoy good food, nature, and people

    Fantastic indoor seating!

One of the best restaurants in ER and the best vegan spot on the East Side for sure!!! Indoor seating in the techniplex mall, convenient location feels residential. East side needed a place like this so bad, you will be amazed at how good the food is!! Nice staff too!

I'm not vegan, but wholeheartedly enjoyed this food! I enjoyed the Madrid breakfast sandwich with a romesco sauce and egg and bacon substitute. Flavor was great and texture was awesome! The ordering is done on an iPad, was very easy to navigate. They bakery had a beautiful display of cupcakes and other baked goods which looked so tasty. Staff was very prompt and hand delivered our order with a smile. Limited seating, to-go is probably the best. I gave 4 stars only because of this and the ordering was a bit impersonal.

Hollycake house is now one of my favorite vegan places (and we have a lot in the Rochester area). So far I have only tried breakfast but the lunch menu looks yummy too! My favorite sandwich is the Madrid which comes with a romesco sauce and vegan bacon making it a filling sandwich. In addition to having awesome savory food they also make the best cupcakes! Lemon raspberry was my favorite. I will definitely be back to try more! Their location has good parking and it's also nice they offer delivery through Grubhub.

I happened upon this place by a recommendation from a friend and let me tell you the place is clean the people that work there are so friendly and the food is out of this world, especially the desserts. Great little eatery. I will probably end up there every week.

I had been…read moregetting emails for a while, and I finally decided to try them out to help support my intermittent fasting regime. I was looking for more plant-based proteins and foods that would fill me up so I'm not quite as hungry when fasting. I really do enjoy this service. The quality of the food is very good. I love that there is a variety of meal options, and these are rotated in and out at a good rate. I think I've only had one or two repeat meals in the month I've been purchasing. I am not a vegan, but I do like to eat primarily plant-based and the recipes the chef comes up with are quite ingenious. They sound very interesting and have a lot of cultural influences. I particularly like the asian inspired meals, noodle bowls, Indian... last week there was a Moroccan Bean stew, and it looked so good, I let my dad have it because he wanted to try out a meal. I prefer to pick up my order each week. They have a nice curbside pickup system working right now. You can get food delivered for a fee to the Rochester and Buffalo areas. I prefer to save a few dollars and I have made it a part of my Sunday routine that's focused on me. There is only one drawback. Meals come to you in plastic take out containers. They are very durable and great for taking to work. But I wish these could somehow be more environmentally friendly. I do recycle, but I worry it's not enough. If you feel pressed for time in your week and would like to have really tasty, healthy, flavorful meals this is a great option. At $12.00 per meal, it is somewhat expensive, but at the same time maybe it's not given that food prices at grocery stores have gone up. It isn't a frozen Healthy Choice bowl, and you are getting your money's worth in terms of portion size, food quality and nutritional value.

I am an infantile vegan (only 5 months) and lasagna was a meal I was going to miss. Also I have found myself eating a lot of processed vegan foods due to convenience and sweet pea offered a solution to my *problems*. I ordered lasagna, butternut squash soup, muffins, and tikka masala. The muffins were amazing and moist and not chewy like a lot of vegan baked goods. The cauliflower bechamel in the lasagna was also noteworthy. But fast forward to the tikka masala- Wow! The price was right as the portions lasted me all week and saved me so much time. Also the nutrition information is provided and you can pronounce all the ingredients and the calories are reasonable. Also happy with the protein content of all these items! One recommendation would be- I personally added salt to the dishes. I find this common with vegan food though and appreciate that people can salt to taste. All of this, and the meals were dropped off at my door ready to be microwaved. I highly recommend even if not a vegan just a healthy option for those nights you can't or don't want to cook. Also to the other review that this place was pricey and packaging was not eco friendly- do you know that offering eco friendly packaging would subsequently increase costs even more? Unfortunately you can't have it all, at least without paying for it.

We also tried the Pink Lemonade and the Strawberry Alarm Clock juices, both incredibly fresh and vibrant. You could taste every ingredient. Since we couldn't decide on just one entrée, we split the Thai Kale Salad and the Buddha Bowl (with added mushrooms and avocado). The Thai Kale Salad was everything you want it to be -- bright, flavorful, and impossible to stop eating. We were sure it would be the star of the meal. Then the Buddha Bowl arrived. The smoky tofu, creamy coconut rice, perfectly dressed kale, and all the veggies worked together beautifully. But the real showstopper was the added mushrooms -- so rich and full of depth that we nearly fought over them. We enjoyed everything out on their patio and left already planning our next visit. Perfectly cooked crust, and just the right amount of topping. The House-Made Vegan Mozzarella Stix were surprisingly good! Cheezy with a stretch, and a nice crispy breading. The May-Wah wings I ordered with the same sauce blend as the pizza, Buffalo and Boss sauce mixed. They were good, but slightly mushy. I also wish they came with more than two celery sticks! The dipping sauce was really good too! Next time I think I'll try the Jackfruit wings. Anyway, I had a great dinner thanks to New Ethic, and will definitely be returning soon! Highly recommended!
