First, get a price for work before you leave your clothing. I had a simple hemming job without asking the cost. I was aware of this and just figured it had to be reasonable. It was, in fact, exorbitant and I had to pay it or forfeit my clothing. I use two other alteration shops so I have a reference for pricing. The hemming was way too long. When I returned with the pants she gave a preposterous explanation why the work was perfectly measured, cut and sewed. She disregarded all agreed measurements taken with me in the shop, and refused to correct the error unless I again paid the exorbitant price. She takes only cash, so no leverage for shady business behavior there. The guy there is rude and arrogantly dismissive. All round bad experience. read more

Be sure to get a fixed price BEFORE you leave your items. I assumed that a simple hem shortening on a straight dress I got at the Good Will for $10 wouldn't be more than the hemming on a special party dress I'd left a few months earlier. Wrong! The surprise bill was $62 for a half-hour job! I nearly just left the dress there but realized that it was own darn fault for not insisting on a fixed price before I left the garment for hemming. The good workmanship definitely wasn't worth the cost or the 2-month wait. read more

Absolutely disappointed with my experience here. I went in today, I acknowledged I came in last minute and that I totally understood if she wasn't able to get it done in time for my event. She was accommodating and I want to definitely say, the woman who does all the sewing, she was very good to me, and tried her best to fit me in. It was the man that works there with her. He was terrible. He was condescending, disrespectful, not just to me the customer but also to the woman that works there. I do not appreciate how he spoke to me, and there's no way I would ever go back, simply for his behavior. I believe that she does great work, but his behavior is 100 percent unacceptable. 25 stars! This woman is a goddess and should win the Nobel prize for sewing/tailoring/alterations. I have been coming here off and on for many years. Her work is excellent and professional. I've had various jackets and pants altered to fit and various types of hemming. I am pleased with the all the results. My favorite item I had altered here is an Anne Klein brown tweed short jacket that belonged to my size 14 mother. After she died, I kept the jacket and had it altered to fit my petite size 10 frame. Twelve years later I am still using this jacket and think of my mom every time I wear it. Yes, alterations and tailoring cost some dollars. Wow, I'm really surprised that this is the first review! There's almost always someone in there before or after me, so I know I'm not the only one who treasures this little gem of a place. I've been using Jadzia since she was across the street at the dry cleaners as their alteration person. I heard later from someone who LOVES leather jackets, that he had brought his jacket to her with a book bag or something that was the same type of leather, and she repaired his jacket using leather from the bag! How clever is that? I remember bringing my 16 year old daughter to have Jadzia alter her dresses (when she was still at the dry cleaners), and now that daughter is married with a daughter of her own and she continues to bring her alteration needs there. I've brought so many things to her, from just simple alterations to dragging 4 girls for bridesmaid dresses for alteration and she's done it all! It's wonderful to have someone close to where I live and had always been someone I can completely trust! read more

Brought in a silk dress to be hemmed for a special occasion. Was measured wearing flat shoes. When I wore it - with heels - it was trailing on the floor and a good 4-5 inches longer on one side at the front than the other which meant I was tripping over it the whole time. When I took it back the attitude was "I told you it would never be even" ..........well maybe a half an inch to an inch here and there would not be noticeable but this was unwearable (too long all around) and dramatically different from one side to the other........She agreed to re-pin and re-do (blaming the design and the fabric the whole time) but then when I went back to pick up wanted to charge me again almost the same amount as the first time......... which I found unacceptable.......There was no apology and she accepted no responsibility whatsoever for her work. "Why would you expect me to work for free?" Um well.....because I already paid the first time, and to re-do a very badly done job and to ensure an ongoing happy customer perhaps.......Workmanship -0 Customer Service -0 Oh and she told me not to come back.........like I was ever thinking of doing so :( read more

I recently took a pair of pants in that had an intricate hem. Jadzia, the master tailor, did a fabulous job on them. I thought she would just chop off the old hem and cuff them up. Instead she did an elaborate job to cut the pants and reinstated the old intricate hem. The work is superb and one would never even know they were altered. I brought a dress and a couple pairs of pants into this shop on a recommendation from a friend (who used Alteration Studio for her wedding dress alterations and was beyond happy with the results). The very nice lady there (I forgot her name...) made sure I washed and dried my new white linen pants before altering, and boy was I glad I did! They shrunk up just right and saved me the money altering! For the dress I brought in, I thought I needed a bunch of alterations. Turns out the elastic in the sleeves needed to be replaced.
