We had a few items that needed some simple alterations. I did some research and the reviews for this place seemed reputable. One of the items we took was a $200 shirt that needed hemmed. It was a shirttail hem and we instructed to take it up around 2in and make it a straight hem instead. Well, the returned shirt was taken up 2in, but the shirttail hem was kept so it was really taken more than 2 in. The shirt is now unwearable. I called the number and they proceeded to tell me that the number was just an "answering service" and they would have someone call me back. I have not received a call back and now when I call it goes straight to voicemail. We had a to buy another shirt to replace this one- so this has now turned into a $400 mistake on their end and they refuse to correct the situation. read more

I ordered my bridesmaid dress online and was heartbroken when it was delivered and barely zipped up, even after measuring myself and using their sizing chart. I went to this location and they did absolutely amazing. I was so worried that I would be completely out of luck for my dress but the folks at Alteration World did such a fantastic job and now the dress fits perfectly! took two dresses to be hemmed. asked for price before leaving them and was told no manager was in so they couldn't quote me a price. went to pick them up and was told my bill was $80. I spent $80 on two $30 dresses to be hemmed. that wasn't the worst of it... When the manager did not want to discuss it with me he called the girl who I spoke with to come out to the front desk - girl came out and I asked her why she didn't quote me a price, she said she did. She lied. I will never go back there. I can sew and I know the two dresses with a hem is not $80 worth of work. read more

I brought in an expensive leather Calvin Kline jacket brown in color to have the sleeves altered. When I picked up the jacket they gave me a black jacket. Apparently they had died my brown jacket black and refused to admit what they had done. read more

Alteration World saved me again for another bridesmaid's dress! Had a dress coming from a bigger name bridal store, and I was going to get it altered there (I thought there might have been a little bit of a discount keeping it in the store). Went for the alteration appointment and was told the cost, based on what they were going to do(just hemming the dress) and was shocked at how expensive it was. I canceled the alteration and am now taking it to Alteration World. Instead of waiting one month to get my dress back, it will be done in a week for about half the cost, with the same, if not better, quality! Mr. Gonzalez and his team are amazing!!! They can do ANYTHING, from simple hems and tailoring to creating couture creations. And they are responsible and shockingly fast. I once had a seamstress take nearly a year to finish ONE item, and lose another! Not these folks!!! As someone who cannot sew to save her own life, I am partially suspicious that they do "magic!" I have taken numerous pairs or pants, suit jackets and a leather jacket to be altered. I have had pants hemmed and tapered, the suit jacket sleeves shortened and a zipper replaced on a leather jacket. The work was done meticulously and clothing was ready when promised. I have gone to several tailors over the last year and they ar by far the best I've used. I will not be going anywhere else for my tailoring. My son's baseball custom uniform pants came in too big in the waist and length and with a game coming up in a week's time I needed it done relatively quick. Found Alteration World through a Google search of local tailors and noted they were one of the few in the vicinity that had normal business hours. Called the morning of and stated what I had. Refreshingly, they replied, "no problem, bring them down". As soon as I got there that afternoon with my son, they immediately remembered me and mocked up the pants for the adjustments. They delivered on their promise to have them done within the week in time for the first game of the season. The work done was some of the most professional stitching I've ever seen. The tuck in on the waist is barely visible from the inside seam and invisible on the outside. My son now will look great on the field and that will translate into playing great! New to area and decided to pay this shop a visit! It was definitely the best experience I've ever had with a tailor. He is MUCH cheaper than the other shops, he charges 10 while others charge $15, and he goes above and beyond for what he charges. I dropped off 4 jeans, and he hemmed and tapered the jeans! I couldn't even tell the difference between the store bought jeans and the quality of his work. It was absolutely perfect, no bulges or puckers! They the match the exact stitch as the factory. Absolutely a great guy, they were all done and waiting for me as promised! I'll definitely be taking all of my business to this place, and would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a personal tailor who actually cares about his work and building an honest business. read more

Very nice gentleman working inside. I come down here to get my sons bag fixed and he did a great job. A lot cheaper than buying a new bag. The outside looks a little outdated but inside you can tell that they are working on updates. The floor looks new. I was surprised to learn that they also do dry cleaning. So happy I found this place! I'm new to the Pittsburgh area and wasn't sure if it was worth driving to Carnegie to come here, but Yelp convinced me. It was completely worth the trip! Since it would have been a long trip to come back, the guys at Alteration World finished my work (patching a hole on a pair of jeans) in less than half an hour (I killed time at an adorable coffee shop across the street) and exactly as I had specified. When I picked up my pants, (he was able to get them done in 3 days so I could take them on vacation) I was very very pleased with the quality of work. I have taken things here before and loved how "reasonably priced" they are. My most resent experience here was so horrible my family and I will never go back. The business is not run the way it has been in the past. I took a dress that needed taken in in the back and around the neck. When I went to pick it up it was not even ready then to find out the next day that I was being charged $60. My family and I have been coming here for a few years and never ever spent anything even remotely close to $60 worth on alterations. My mom came down to pick up two things right before and and her total was $25... Not only are the prices extremely inconsistent when I finally got the dress the neck was still way too loose and the zipper didn't go up all the way I had to pin the dress myself and wear it with safety pins to a wedding. I was not able to get my money back because apparently "it wasn't his fault" and he told me not to worry about it. This is probably the worst business in Carnegie. Is it possible to give zero stars? read more

Having certain businesses with skill sets in your local neighborhood is important. I try to keep it as local as possible, so when I heard about a tailor in Carnegie I was intrigued. The building is in a strip mall across from Carnegie Coffee Company. Unassuming, looks like it is closed all the time, until you do a drive by and see the hours posted. There is a Latino man in his 20's working when you arrive. In my mind, I imagine a tailor to be older, kind of like my grandfather maybe with measuring tape around his neck (Textbook movie tailor), so I was a bit trepidatious about dropping off my clothing. He asks you to go change into a closet (Yes, a closet to change in with one lightbulb) BUT all my worries aside, the moment he started working on my items I knew he was the real deal. He learned from his father at the age of 14 how to sew. and he does things the correct way. Meaning, for example- I took in a pair of khakis all the way down to the cuff, but he seamed them up to look EXACTLY the way they were when I first bought them. Most placed will have bulges and puckers. The rest of my items were just as perfect. Very inexpensive at $10 for a pair of pants to adjust the hem. The items were done in a timely manner. He takes his business very seriously. While I was there, I watched a lady rush in and demand 6 shirts to be altered in an hour, and he did it and charged the same price. Really nice guy, please go and support this business to keep him around town! read more

You cannot even tell the length was changed. Totally worth the drive to Carnegie. Convenient location with off street parking out front. Great job so glad to have a place I can trust!! Needed a zipper replaced on an Ann Klein winter coat. Called first and took it there. Left a $10 deposit for a projected $30 job. He called in a few days, his "zipper guy" was just in and didn't have the zipper (door to door zipper salesman? no internet ordering?) so he would have to use one that he had on hand.. color, material would not match but it would look ok. I insisted that I should come and chose from the alternatives or take it elsewhere depending. It is a visible zipper so it does matter. When I arrive, he tells me that he found the right pull tab on another zipper he had and replaced that so now the zipper works.. I noticed that the pull tab bore the same Ann Klein insignia and was an exact color match with the original zipper.. So, I knew he was lying. But the zipper seemed to work, so I paid an additional $3 and left with the coat. My goal was a functional zipper so I tried not to be too pedantic. The problem is that when my daughter put the coat on for the first time and went to zip it up, the zipper came right apart as it had previously. So not only did he lie about the work that he did, he also didn't really fix it. I wanted to use a local shop and support someone who is trying to make a go of it. I got taken. I wouldn't trust him now to go back and ask him to REALLY replace the zipper and do the job. I am only out $13 dollars, but have lost a month in time and far more in good will. Might be fine for alterations, but I am not going back based upon my experience. read more
