BEWARE!!!!! I have been coming here for years and the older lady who used to own this has retired. The new owners put up marble and lots of cosmetic upgrades (nothing to do with the quality of their work).... I came here because I needed something repaired with replacement material.... Sadly, as I was discussing what I needed, the lady (new owners put) was already shaking her head no)... One of the best parts about the previous owners was how they would be so honest they'd warn you the affirmed labor would be costly.... But at least listened to you first before shaking their head no half way through what I needed done... SO sad - but I will NEVER come back here again.... The days of hand sewn solutions with quality and care are gone - last piece why I can write this confidently.... The lady attending me (after again shaking her head no through my request) looked at me and said: "the machine can't do it"..... Machines? Some alterations require hand sewing.... Especially custom pieces.... Guess I'll have to hunt for something like that... Good luck to the previous owners and again, be cautious.... While I may be assuming, the fact there were a lot of cosmetic upgrades to the entrance makes me think they're gonna jack up the prices too..... read more

The quality of alterations here is excellent! I brought in a gown for my son's wedding that needed hemming and a lot of alterations to the bodice because I have scoliosis. She did an amazing job!! Also, she communicated clearly through texting and calls, was on time with the expectations we had set, and the price was fair and reasonable. I definitely recommend this place!! read more

I had dropped off four dresses, one being my Maid of Honor dress, during prom season! Four other places told me they could not get my things completed in time (two weeks) but I should have gone here to begin with! I was fitted right away, Maria was so adorable, warm and knowledgeable! I thrifted 3 of my dresses so I was willing to pay a little extra for alterations but also worried about how the fabrics would hold up/the amount of work needed, but Maria definitely knows her stuff and I trusted her completely during the fitting. They were kindly willing to work within the time limit I needed, even considering prom season. They not only got my things done in time but they were a whole week early!! Maria and her team are so wonderful, she let me try everything on at pick up to make sure everything fit well - they did a fantastic job! She even fixed some of the little hanger ribbons too! I'm so incredibly happy with the services they provided. It is a small, family run business, which I love to support! They were friendly, accommodating, the prices are very reasonable, with great turn around time. I would trust them with my whole closet! These guys are great. The staff is so nice and courteous. We needed to patch a brand new suit jacket for extending arm length, and hem the pants. When most others in town would not help us, they were able to quickly accept our request and do the job in less than 2 days even though they had a whole bunch of orders ahead of us and did so at very fair price. My first and definitely the LAST visit to this establishment. I brought two pairs brand new pants by MaxMara Weekend to hem. They not only did a bad job by using a machine instead of doing it by hand they left stains on both pairs. The linen pants were also not ironed, and completely wrinkled. When I returned to discuss the problem, Maria offered to fix the hem but denied the fact that they could cause the stains, declaring that the pants were bought at SECOND HAND STORE! And they are not new! That was a ridiculous and upsetting response. Nevertheless, she paid me back the money I paid and agreed to pay for a dry cleaning. I took it to dry cleaning and to another alteration place where they fixed the work. And No, I didn't return to Alteration & More with the receipts from dry cleaning, to spare an unnecessary distressing exchange of words. read more

So happy with this shop!! I had a dress that needed a last minute alteration for a wedding, so I called Alternations & More and they told me to come in at any time. I brought in my dress in that I wanted hemmed and taken in on the sides, and he pinned it up for me within 10 minutes. I needed the dress within 2 days, and they made it work! I initially brought the dress on Wednesday evening and it was ready by Friday morning. The seams and stitching were flawless and only cost me $25-30. Much cheaper than buying a new dress. The shop also has a cute waiting area in the lobby, dressing rooms, miscellaneous clothing items for sale (all fairly cheap), etc. It's right off of 183 too for easy access. Overall, I definitely recommend Alterations & More... great service and quality work. read more

Maria is a gem. I rushed in near their closing time, but she graciously worked with me. The first job I've given her was to alter a simple wool dress to give it a slimmer, more flattering fit. It was done much sooner than she said it would be, and she nailed the fit -- not too loose and not too tight. I am planning on taking more challenging projects to her. I went to Alterations & More based on the reviews to get a bridesmaids dress altered for my friend's wedding in Connecticut. I was not happy with the work that was done for $116 in alterations. The work is extremely sloppy and you can see the stitching from the outside (see photos - the threading was also a shade off). When I questioned why the inside lining wasn't lined up to where it should be, I was told that it was "the wiring". There are no wires in this gown. I also had the bottom hemmed and it's uneven and a bit too long. When I tried the dress on, I was told it looked perfect by the seamstress. My mom was able to fix the lining on the bodice so that it's not as noticeable. I'm still disappointed in the quality of work that was done for the price that I paid. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

I tend to buy a pair of designer jeans on sale once a year and since I am vertically challenged (5'2") they need to be hemmed. I've been going here for over 10 years at this point, they're consistently reliable, friendly and competent. Not expensive, fast turnaround, and accommodating when emergencies happen. Case in point: I'm working out of town for almost two months, only coming back to Austin on weekends. Need a pair of pants hemmed for a wedding on Saturday, they said if I come in early on Friday morning they'll get them ready for Friday afternoon, with no up-charge. It's really hit or miss with this place. I mostly go to a tailor to get jeans hemmed. This last time I took a pair of mine and a pair for my husband. We had asked for a regular hem not original. When I picked them up, they looked all wrong. My husband's were sort of original but sewed on weird. Mine were original but like cuffed and then sewn down without cutting the jeans at all. I've had plenty of original hems done before, I know what they should look like. I think what happened Is that they started to do original with my husband's pair and then realized that's not what we asked for. So they tried to cover it up by sewing mine similarly. When I picked them up, the lady tried to convince me that the hem was preferred by all her clients and even charged me less than a normal hem when she could tell I was not happy. She did offer go fix them if I wanted and after showing the jeans to my husband, I took them back and had them at least fix the hem to look like a good original hem, which they were totally willing to do. The jeans turned out a little shorter than I preferred and my husband has requested that we not used them anymore after this most recent fiasco (not my first issue with them). read more

Dropped my stuff off on a Saturday and because of my hours I wasn't able to pick them up til Friday. When I got there right at 9 they weren't open (even though they were supposed to be.) I didn't have time to wait for more than 10 minutes so I had to wait until Saturday. I had them fix my bras so that the underwire didn't stick out any more. Within five minutes of wearing the bra the underwire came out again. I would have taken it back and insisted on a refund or fix but I'd rather be poked by underwire than go another week without my favorite bra! read more

I was running another errand in the same shopping center when I noticed this place, so I asked if they had rush service, and they did! For $2 extra they had my jeans hemmed within 45 minutes. They did a great job and now I have a bag of clothing to get hemmed and repaired in my car to take to them. read more

We have had the most amazing experiences here! This is the second year my daughter has had a prom dress altered here. This year was particularly complicated by a dress that was was on the small side for her to begin with. My daughter is very large busted and the dress had a plunging neckline that needed to be pulled together so as to make it more modest. There was very little extra fabric to work with. The proprietress is a sweet, lovely person who listened attentively and made us feel confident that it would look beautiful. Somehow, she made it work!! She did an amazing job and the dress fits perfectly and looks amazing!!! We are so happy with the outcome!! I would highly recommend her for her skill and kind and caring customer service. read more

Well, as usual, you get what you pay for here. A simple $2.50 cub scout pocket-patch was sewn on at an angle instead of lining it up with the one patch already on it. The new patch was supposed to go underneath the one they placed on last year. I guess they have a someone new doing that type of easy work. Maybe the owner should check the work of their employees. A simple ruler and some soap would have been useful to mark the proper placement alignment under the patch that was on the shirt. But that seems to be too much to ask for here. (My sister is a seamstress so I know about the basics, I just wish I owned a machine to do these types of things myself.) Sadly, I won't be going back here if they can't even get a small patch sewn on in a line when there is a two point diamond to use as reference for a straight line. Very disappointed. Two stars, one for good work last year, otherwise, it would be one star. read more

Brought a $450 brand new never worn dress by Sherri Hill here to be altered for my 16 yr old granddaughter. Left it over a week. When I picked it up I was horrified. I wish so bad that I could post a picture of how they ruined this beautiful dress! It a black strapless with a gorgeous sewn on 'belt' rhinestones, beads, tiny pearls and tiny silver sequins. They butchered the back at the zipper! It is horrible! And when we complained they say that's the only way it could have been done. Well, if that's the only way it could be done THEN DON'T DO IT! It cost $151.55 for alterations and all they want to give me back is $35! That's riduculous. And then they said to bring it back. I live an hour away and my granddaughter was to wear it in 3 days. They DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBLITY FOR THEIR SHOTTY WORK. DO NOT GO THERE!! read more

I came here on a recommendation. I had a short time frame but they were willing to accommodate. I am 5 ft tall so just about everything has to be hemmed and I'm pretty used to mediocre work but A&M was great. I got shirt sleeves taken in and slacks hemmed. They all fit like they were made for me which is rare for me. This is now my go-to place for alterations. Staff was polite and wonderful. My one complaint would be the temperature. It was a little stuffy for an Austin shop but this was during a big temperature change so it may have just been that day. I strongly recommend this place for all my LPs out there.
