When I asked her if - 'just the area that had been sewn by them could be pressed', as was more wrinkled than when I delivered - she responded with "we are not dry cleaner", on and on. I LOVE this place! They've just altered a sweater and a tunic for me that fit unbelievable well now. The woman who greeted me when I walked in and fitted my clothing had beautiful energy - kind, warm, inviting. It was a pleasure to and deal with her. In fact, I'm bringing a shirt in today and do so with full confidence that when I pick it up it will fit perfectly. I have a beautiful dress with sheer see through lace in the back. The problem area is the Zipper. It keeps biking out. I tried to stack Harvey objects on it and ignored it, but nothing seems to work. I went to different alterations and local dry cleaners nearby my area, but no one have a clue or confidence on what to do. Once, my friend recommended me a seamstress, Snow, who always helps my friend alter clothes. Initially, I expected her to tell me the same thing everyone else like" return it or they are too busy to help." To my surprise, she told me she can help me with my dress after she saw the problem area. Whatever she did, the zipper no longer bulges. I thought she changed the zipper, but she assures me that is just the original zipper. What an amazing job she done for me! Now I have a pretty dress to the party in this Christmas! Can not describe how happy i am right now. Highly recommend!! read more

Marin Residents I implore you to take your alterations some where else and don't succumb to the convenience of the location ! Why you ask? I have been a very long term customer even prior to the current owner. The problem now is I had to return three times to pick up a very simple order of closing a seam because the work was not ready as initially promised She even charged me an "express fee" for something that did not happen. Why does this woman promise work will be ready when she knows there is no chance that will happen? I think she is afraid of loosing a customer if she can't deliver. I asked why she did not call and notify me and she refused to answer the question. Also it is important to know that work is not done on the premises any longer. Who knows where it goes. The prices have risen rapidly over the past months and fluctuate frequently. I also experienced her asking for only cash for some orders and then accepting credit or debit cards for different orders. (Something smells fishy) The work quality is also very poor. In summary there is a problem with this business owner and her practices. I promise you will find a different alterations business if you ignore this warning because you are as unhappy as I was. Buyer Beware, you deserve better! read more

So sorry to hear bad reviews. I moved away a year ago, but prior to that this place was my go to for many years. Snow is fantastic, she was honest and very good at what she does, my grandmother was a seamstress and she reminded me of her the way she could quickly tell you if something will work or not, she will honestly tell you don't spend money on this it won't look right and has a great eye for making things fit in a way that is flattering and your own personal style. I can't rave about her enough, I can't imagine she herself has changed, maybe some bumps in the road as the business grew, but hands down best seamstress I have ever been to, never any quality issues. I started this journey by having an appointment at an alteration store in Bon Air which was horrible. The lady made such a big deal about everything and said that she would not do this alteration for ANY price. She was so rude. I literally walked out with the dress in my arms. It is now after 6 PM. What do I do? Seriously, Snow saved me. Snow was closed, it was at about 6:10. She opened the door for us, said that she could have it done by Friday. There was a lot of fabric. She stood my daughter up, took very careful measurements and was extremely precise. She promised she would have it ready for the wedding. On Friday I realized that one of the formal black dresses for the wedding rehearsal had to be altered. I arrived with the dress........ desperate. Snow looked at it, and said it will be ready the next morning. Fair price. Excellent work. Snow is absolutely lovely. Patient and just a sweetheart. Had it not been for her, the bridesmaid dress could not be worn and the glamorous black dress was falling off. It was the best outcome for 2 potential huge disasters. read more

As multiple reviews stated. Female counter person very rude. I brought in a tee shirt to have 7 1in by 2in numbers sewn on the shirt. In my opinion very expensive but I said yes. Was told I would receive a call when ready, never happened. Picked up t shirt 10 Days later. 1 week later I returned to determine what they could do to Center the numbers as originally discussed. I was given a terse lecture on why the position of the numbers is EXACTLY where I wanted them since I pinned them. Which was never offered and never happened. Refused to except any responsibility and/or suggest what could be done to correct it. She wanted nothing to to with MY problem. I frequented this business for several years and really appreciated the location and longer hours. Overall, I had very good experiences. But recently, when I realized a pair of pants hadn't been hemmed properly and I returned to have them redone, I was told it wasn't possible because of the fabric of the pants wasn't something they worked on and also because my hips didn't match. When I asked why I wasn't told that when I first brought in the pants, the answer was that the new assistant didn't know enough to tell me. I'm now left to find another place to go. The pants are off by more than an inch and can't be worn until the hem on one leg is redone. I'm very disappointed as I'd like to continue supporting the owner, but I can't return in good faith. read more

I used to go here frequently with my alterations, and they did a good job at fair price. Then I think the place must have been sold because all of a suddent things went totally downhill. Not only is the woman at the counter totally unfriendly (seriously if you hate it so much, work somewhere else), they couldn't find a dress I brought in when I came to get it. They told me they would look for it and call me - if they found it, they'd alter it for free. If not, they'd reimburse me for the dress. No call ever came, so I stopped by a few weeks later. They'd found the dress, which was great, but were so unapologetic, and then proceeded to try to charge me for it! I don't think so. Drop stuff off there at your own risk. read more

I would give this shop zero stars but you can't rate a business that low. I went to this alteration shop to have a dress fixed for a wedding. While the owner who was Asian was cutting my dress she told me the price. I was over charged but I needed the dress fixed so I looked over that aspect. This website and when I previous called before going to this shop said they take credit cards. When it was time to pay the Asian owner tells me she can only take cash no credit cards or anything else. I usually don't keep a lot of cash on me so I gave her $100 cash and told her I would pay the rest when I pick the dress up. I told her I was told over the phone and the website says you can pay with a credit card and she said no that's not true. After that I decided to go to a an ATM machine and pay off the balance in case someone else had to pick the dress up for me. I went back into the shop to pay the balance and it was a white customer that was paying for a service that was way more stuff than I had for a much lower price and she was giving her back her credit card saying it doesn't work and the white woman gave her another credit card to use. I immediately felt disrespected, disgusted, and discriminated against. Being that I am African American I wonder why I was charged more and had to pay cash only. The Asian owner then said to me she is an old customer because she saw the look on my face and knew I was about to say something about being discriminated against at her shop. I want to let everybody know how this business treated me and how I will not be patronizing or spending any money at a business that have a problem servicing and mistreating African American people. read more

Let me start by saying that I had been a customer for many years, bringing many pants, sweaters, scarves etc... to be altered. I went to pick up a sweater that had a tiny moth hole in the collar. As the sweater was hanging before I paid, some weird discolorations on it caught my eye. I laid down the sweater flat. It was ruined! Looked to me that someone pressed/ironed it, as this is what would happen if you did it at home. This sweater was a unique and irreplaceable neon peach summer color. Not something I could ever replace. All I got was an attitude from the owner. For starters how do they dare returning a sweater to me in this condition? (if it had not caught my eye)??? It was simply ruined, which the owner did not argue with, whether due to ironing or not. As bad as it was, and as devastated as I was knowing I could not replace it, I asked at least to be reimbursed for the sweater, which she argued with. Finally she agreed to pay me back the value of the sweater as I insisted. Just plain nasty attitude, not even an ounce of remorse, or apology. So, if you have a garment that needs alterations, bring it there. They might do a good job, or not. And if they ruin your item (or lose it as other reviewers mentioned), don't even think about getting the beginning of an apology. Whether you have given them your business for years or not. Very strange experience there. Sent my daughter in to have her bridesmaids dressed hemmed and the spaghetti straps shortened. They pinned her cocktail length dress (nothing elaborate ...just a chiffon layer over an acetate lining) and then told her the cost would be $90! She called me and I said to take the dress back as the cost was outrageous and they made her pay $23 to get the dress back saying that they charged $90/hour and that it had taken them 15 minutes to pin it (five actually) so that was the labor cost incurred. She was never told the cost ahead of time, nor was this labor policy posted in the store. Won't be going back. read more

Best place in Marin for getting jeans hemmed. The older reviews on YELP that mention poor customer service and give it low stars are related to the previous owner who has since retired. I just found Alterations To Go on Yelp and took in a skirt to be hemmed. She did a great job in a short amount of time for a reasonable price. I was so impressed I brought back a pair of shorts that I had bought a pattern for and cut out but had not sewn together. I asked her if she could make the shorts for me. She did and did such an outstanding job for a reasonable price that I will definitely be giving her more business. I highly recommend Alterations To Go. read more

This place is HORRIBLE: expensive, rude service, and the sewing quality is substandard. As soon as I came in, the elderly lady behind the counter barely acknowledged me. I had pinned the dress to show what type of alterations I wanted (adjusting the straps), and when it came back, the stitches were showing through AND it was uneven. When I asked the seamstress about it, she seemed offended and kept saying it looked fine. She also insinuated that it was basically my fault because she did as I asked, and the final cost would be $25 -- for shortening straps on a jersey knit dress! Needless to say, I'm not giving them my business ever again. If I could, I wouldn't give ANY stars. read more

This place must have new management because the woman I met yesterday at 5:30pm could not have been nicer. I've had the same seamstress in Mill Valley for many years and she was wonderful but lately, unless I bring in a pair of pants to hem or something similarly simple, she just says that she can't do it. I can usually talk her into it but it's been getting tiresome. The last straw was when I brought in a costume that needed an invisible zipper installed. She told me she could do it and then, once I put it on said it was impossible (and I had to come back three times to find this out because she wasn't available the other two times!). I was so upset because I counted on her and wouldn't be able to wear the dress without alteration. SO I went looking for alternatives, enter Alterations to Go. The woman who I spoke to on the phone was wonderful and when I got to the shop she continued to be kind, curious, and professional. She invited me to try the dress on and then, after looking it over said, okay, I can make it perfect but it will be a little costly, do you want to do that for a costume? I so appreciated her honesty, candor, and willingness to really work with me. She talked me through exactly what she would do, I consented, and she pinned it all so it fit like a glove. After her kind and attentive service, she still gave me a fair price and I walked away feeling much, much happier. I haven't seen the alteration yet, and I will update this review when I do, but so far I have been thoroughly impressed by the customer service at Alterations to Go. read more

I don't know how Alterations To Go in the Bon Air Shopping Center stays in business. I've taken clothing in to be altered on several occasions and the women working there are rude and contrary. The last time I was there, the work was not completed when promised. They didn't even apologize and acted like it was my fault. I wish the place would go under new management. I highly recommend this place. I have 4 Zegna jackets that I bought 2 years ago. They still looked brand new. However, they looked a bit too long now as the latest fashion is "shorter" and "slimmer". It was difficult to shorten one of the jackets as the pockets were outside. I was very happy to see the altered jackets looking as it they came straight from Zegna. The owner was also very pleasant to deal with. I asked her why some old customers didn't give her a good review. She mentioned she bought the store 3 years ago. I've had things altered here for years and it was always satisfactory, but not anymore! Brought in a long dress (of my 17 year old daughter's) to be hemmed up 4" and to have elastic removed from the back. The owner was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. The owner called the next day and wanted my daughter to come in to give her opinion on changing up the elastic. My daughter went in at 4:00 that day and the owner wasn't there, just a man who spoke so little English that he couldn't communicate anything to my daughter. I talked to the owner again the next day and she and I worked it out but it would have been better for my daughter to be able to give input, which we no longer had time for as we needed the dress the next day. I called the afternoon that she was to pick up the dress and wanted to give my credit card over the phone to pay but the same gentleman was there and said he didn't know how to process a credit card over the phone (really??). Picked up the dress, paid $55, it looked just okay - some sloppy stitching in the back, my daughter put the dress on 30 minutes before she had to leave for her event AND THEY HADN'T HEMMED IT!!!!! I'll be calling in the morning for a refund, and never going back. read more

Brides beware! Their ads, and the woman on the phone when I called the day before my visit, said they alter wedding gowns. However, when I went in with the dress, the person in charge did everything possible to make it clear she did not want my business. She said they should change the window sign, as she does not do dresses with multiple layers, dresses with beading, or anything that has a time pressure. Years ago I went there to have several bridesmaid dresses altered and they did a great job, but it looks like it is under new ownership and that craftsmanship and congeniality left with the previous owner. If a 5 NEGATIVE star rating was available I would give it to this place! I brought in a brand new pair of rag & bone jeans for hemming. They were not ready a week later when they were supposed to be but she said a tailor was available and could do it that day. I was ok with the delay-no big deal. BUT, what I am not ok with is that the pants were hemmed too short-they weren't even the same length. The left side was significantly shorter then the right and BOTH SIDES WERE TOO SHORT by about 3 inches. Since I am not a teenager, I did not grow 3 inches in a week! I had tried the pants on for them to see where to hem and had even brought in my husband so he could double check them. I have no idea how they could mess up so badly! They are amazingly rude and absolutely take no responsibility saying its not their fault. I can't even buy another pair of these rag & bone jeans as they are sold out in my size and I certainly can't wear them halfway up my calves. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE, YOU WILL BE SORRY!! read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Where to begin. I've been here three times and thus last time was my last. The woman is horribly rude and unable to adjust to my deadlines. And their front door actually says "same day service!" this time she told me Tuesday and then called at noon and left a message saying it wasn't ready but I could come after 4pm and pick it up then. I hadn't planned on picking it up until the next day but since she called, I figured I might as well pick it up that afternoon since it would be ready. I got there at 5 and she told me it wasn't ready. No apology. In fact she kept complaining to me about how long it was taking her. And I said "well I got your message" and she still didn't apologize.
