For excellent Italian bread, thick-crusted, tender, and flavorful there is none better in my experience. I live a thousand miles away from this place, and every time I am within 100 miles, I am going to grab a dozen or so loaves and share them with my friends and family. Found this place on a fb group page and decided to try it out, my husband is a sucker for cannolis ordered some and wow we died and went to heaven they are amazing we also bought 2 other pastries dont know what they are called but they were also delicious! Saw people buying their loaf of bread, I will try them soon! I was also looking around and they have gelatos and some home made garlic spread will definitely need to get them on my next run! read more

The classic Italian bread loaf is just the best. Get it sliced and toast it and/or garlic it. Make a tomato Mayo sandwich and you will be hooked. Not sure about all the other stuff. They have some nice Italian deli foods, but the bread has been around forever and it has stayed consistently amazing!! read more

I think a lot of these reviewers do not realize this is a classic bakery that has been around for over 40 years. It is a staple in Watertown, and while it may not have grown with the times, I'm sure it is struggling to stay popular while also not altering classic service and popular well-known local items. My grandmother used to go get bread from this bakery for me when I was five and this is over 40 years ago. I drove all the way from Maryland and I came to the bakery first before I went anywhere else. The bread is exactly the same, soft, delicious. I don't want them to change. Too many places change with trends and we lose the old classics that are perfect. Please stay the same. read more

The other reviewers are reading more into The Bakery side of Alteri's. Their main products are Pizza, Subs , Sausage and Antipasto bread and Italian and Sicilian bread ! ( The Sicilian bread is sooo chewy and crusty at the same time) You will need to reserve a loaf first thing in the morning cuz they sell out early ! The Capacola is expensive but worth it ! I also got Frozen Walleye cheeks which were great in a homemade chowder ! The is not a fast food restaurant so allow ample time or call your order in early ! a great family owned business.. give it a try ! read more

Has very good food, have liked just about everything I've tried. And the baked goods are very nice. However, I cannot eat here during my lunch break anymore (I work right in the same road), because even if I call it in 45 minutes before I tell them I'll be there, then when I get there I still wait 30 or more minutes!! I refuse to waste my break waiting for something that the employees had plenty of time to prepare, this has happened more than twice. The same employees are there every time I go in, but they still seem to act like they are brand new and have no idea how anything there works. Not a military friendly bakery and not up-to-date with technology driven communications. Spoke with Robin who had no idea what their email address was. They are not capable of doing any metallics or shimmer icing options. It was obvious this bakery was not interested in my event or business. read more

I had high hopes walking into here thinking I was going to get quality food since their online pictures looked so appealing. We tried calling throughout the week to ask questions about the menu but nobody answered. We finally drove down to just place our order and the employees were less than enthusiastic to help. We were the only ones in the place yet couldn't hear what the guy was asking us when we were telling him our uncomplicated order that we had to verify 3 times. It took them 25 minutes just to prep the 2 calzones we ordered, not sure if it was because they didn't know how to make them or because they were more worried about talking to the gentleman that walked in they must of been a manager. By the time we got our order it was close to closing so I just wanted to get out of there since I was already almost there an hour. The calzones were pricey for what you got. There was way too much dough surrounding the edges that was very tough to bite into. The filling was decent but in most parts of the world, what we got served would be considered a stromboli since it was just meat, veggies, and cheese filling (usually they serve sauce in the side) where a calzone is made with all the same as above but includes ricotta cheese and sauce inside. The bottom of our calzones were burnt and had to be sawed through with a sharp knife. Maybe next time we will just stick to the subs they feature on their site. read more
