We have been taking our vehicles to Alternative Auto Care for 16 years. Dale and crew are honest, trustworthy, and they genuinely care about each person that walks through their door. These guys want to keep your car in great condition because they want you and others on the road around you to be safe. They know that not everyone is able to leave a vehicle for a day or longer, so they have free loaner vehicles that customers can use while they are having work done. This is an uncommon practice and I'm sure is a good deal of extra work for them, but that is how much they care about their customers. The work we've had done on our vehicles has always been excellent, and they don't recommend work that they feel isn't worth the cost. When one of our older cars developed an engine oil leak, Dale advised us that they could fix it, but that in his opinion it wouldn't be worth it. Every time we've compared their prices to dealer quotes, Alternative's costs have been lower. Having said that, Alternative is not cheap. If you want somewhere cheap, look elsewhere. You get what you pay for. If you want consistently high quality service and parts, great communication, excellent recordkeeping, fair pricing, and a team of honest, highly-trained, experienced professionals that are careful and thorough, then I highly recommend Alternative Auto Care. read more

Giving this place two stars because if you are a person who doesn't know anything about cars these folks unfortunately will rob you blind and take advantage and good wholesome people. I was quoted around 2500$ or so to fix a broken water pump and replace a hose..... Even with labor and parts about 750$ total for parts plus another 750$ profit 1500$ would of been more reasonable. But doing some research, waiting I was able to get my truck fixed for 700$ total ! With labor. While I can say they are great for diagnosing the issues and they give you a full rundown , I would highly recommend looking around before you end up here. They try and rush you to fix your vehicle and get you in & out before you can even think about the situation. Hate leaving reviews like this but I hope it saves a couple people a few 1000$ dollars like it did for me. I've got two kids and no time to waste I work hard and really don't appreciate people doing buisness like this. read more

I've been taking my cars to Alternative for almost 30 years. The location is convenient to where I live, they do good work, and being able to get a free loaner car is great. However, that's not the real reason that I keep going there. Back in the late 1990s I had an Acura Integra that I'd bought new in 1991. Many cars back then had motorized front shoulder belts, and the one on the driver's side of the car broke. Since the car was long out of warranty I took it to Alternative to get it fixed. Dale informed me that the belts had a lifetime warranty and that I could get it repaired for free at a dealership. There's no way that I would have known that and they could have just done the work themselves and charged me for it. When I got to the dealership I asked what it would have cost and they told me $800. Dale's honesty really impressed me. read more

If they can't put a brand new OEM part in it they won't work on it. I took my Acura in with two specific problems. I knew what they were and what code the computer pulled. They charged me $200 plus to tell me what I knew was wrong with it and couldn't come up with an "ALTERNATIVE" way to fix it. They actually wanted $5K to fix it. If I wanted to get robbed I would have taken it to an Acura dealer. I did find a mechanic to repair it and I only spent several hundred dollars. I had a great first experience at AAC. I was referred to AAC from my father who has been getting work done there for years. The lobby is very clean and welcoming - I know for someone like me who isn't exactly the expert in car care, a warm and inviting first impression is important. The intake person I worked with was very upfront and honest about what I could expect with my time line as well as expenses. Some of the work I had to pass up, and they respected that. I recently purchased a used Honda CR-V for my son to use as his first car. I knew the timing belt needed to be replaced when I bought it, so I priced that work out. While Alternative Auto didn't have the lowest bid, there was something about their quote and the interaction through the biding process that encouraged me to give them a try. I'm so glad I did!! Dale and his team were fantastic through the entire repair process!! Once they had the engine open to replace the timing belt and do their planned work, they discovered some other items that needed attention, and rather than trying to upsell me to get more money, they simply offered to fix the other items for the cost of the parts only (since they already had that part of the engine open). On top of that, Dale had a discount coupon for some of the parts and he passed those savings along to me!! The work was completed on time and for the amount we agreed to. He also made some recommendations to me of future service I should consider, but did so in a way that was more "consultative". I never got the sense he was pressuring me into more work. If you have a Honda or Acura and are looking for an honest and reliable mechanic to work on it, I am happy to recommend Alternative Auto Care. I have been doing business with Dale at Alternative Auto Care since 2007. Since then I have been a very happy customer with their service. To say that Dale is thorough would an understatement. AAC is really fantastic at getting to the root cause of the problem with your vehicle. To this day, I never had to revisit the same issue with my Honda my vehicle was in for repairs. Dale also keeps accurate records of your service visits, communications, and issues with your vehicle. A new bonus that started perhaps a year ago is that you get text message reminders of your scheduled appointments. As another reviewer mentioned, AAC uses OEM Honda parts and they do guarantee their work. Would much prefer that over Autozone replacement parts. In terms of pricing, you get what you pay for. AAC can be on the high side in terms of cost on certain repairs BUT if you want your issue(s) with your vehicle to be addressed and addressed properly PLEASE go to AAC. The last thing I want and perhaps you also is your vehicle to give you problems on the way to work or during a road trip. I sometimes catch myself cringing a little bit when visiting AAC because they are great at finding problems before something breaks or wears out. I think "well I won't be buying that camera lens I've been saving up for." After my belly aching I do realize that it is better to have that peace of mind that my vehicle won't surprise me with bad news before my trip to work. I have taken my Acura here twice for repairs. The employees are always very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I brought my car in this morning to get a headlight replaced- turned out the issue was not the light bulb, but it was something much more complicated. I had to leave my car for the day, and borrowed their complimentary vehicle since I had to go to work. Dale communicated with me about my car every step of the way. I was not there to see the issue when the parts were taken off the car, so Dale took pictures and put together an entire description for me upon my arrival at the end of the day. DO NOT USE THIS SHOP!!! Dale will blame you if they make any mistakes while working on your car. He is also a misogynist - was very condescending, rude and unprofessional. They made 3 repairs - changed oil pan, replaced pin holding my exhaust and power washed my engine. I paid $1066 for such repairs. As I was pulling out of their lot, the car immediately had problems starting and stalled 3 time while driving 1000 feet. I was unable to pull it back into a parking spot. They were reluctant to help me but it was obvious something had happened to my car during repairs. They took my car back into the shop. They immediately started to shift the blame. They suggested I hadn't owned the car very long and that it was an older model - therefor they are not responsible???? They removed cylinder #3 and found water around spark plug. They also found a broken vacuum line and replaced a small portion. These issues were caused by the power wash. When I picked up my car the second time it still was not working properly and I was 100% dissatisfied with the results. Dale insisted I pay him to further diagnose the problem (air leak) THEY CAUSED. Completely unacceptable workmanship, professionalism and customer care. DO NOT BE FOOLED. I will be taking my car to another shop immediately to have proper repairs made and then I will take Dale to court so he can be held accountable for his mistake. My car was BLASTED with high pressure water. It was not properly dried and placed out in the sun to bake. There's NO WAY Dale OR his employees ever test drove the vehicle before OR after original repair. If you bring your car to this shop be prepared to deal with more repairs when they make rookie mistakes. ALSO this shop quoted me $2300+ to fix my rear differential (leak) - their own technician suggested I shop around. I found a shop across the street to make repairs for $266 in under an hour. I don't know how to explain the HUGE difference in quoted price and actual repair cost. I have a feeling this is a very inexperienced crew - unable to give good estimates, unable to diagnose problems and unable to make proper repairs. I've been maintaining my vehicles for 28+ years. This is by far the worst service I've ever received. I prefer to support small local businesses but Dale does not care about the service provided...he's too busy dodgy accountability and shaking customers down for more money. I immediately arranged for my car to be picked up from Dale's place after he tried to shake me down for more money (I was out of town at the time) and arranged to have it looked at by another shop. Luckily I have a second reliable vehicle (another ford escape) to drive while I fix the problem created by the power wash. Dale asked me to pick up my vehicle when I refused to pay him more money for a problem his shop caused. I was not mean OR nasty - It's called being assertive after Dale was condescending and repeatedly tried to talk over me while I was questioning him about the power wash and possible adverse effects. I've never been spoken to this way by a vendor. Completely unacceptable! As a small business owner myself, I can not imagine ever speaking to clients, employees and or vendors in this manner. The way Dale CHOSE to handle the problem is much worst than the laps in judgement regarding the power wash. I can handle mistakes but not the sloppy recovery read more

I recently went to alternative auto care. My car went in with clean oil and no oil leaks it came back with dark black oil that burns my skin and wreaks of some kind of solivent. Also it went in with brigjt neon green transparent radiator fluid! I was very proud of my recent radiator flushit came out really nice!!! My car came back with brown fluid and over filled and its thick.... Dale lied to me and told me that my radiator support frame was bent from an accident and that my radiator was bent and shoved in to my condenser! I got home and pulled thefenders off the bumper off and headlights out went over everything the car has never been in a wreck ever!!! No sign of new paint no bent anything at all!!! Also my radiator turns out is brand new!!! Not bent at all!!! Also my radiator is a few inches from my condenser just like it is supposed to be and my condensor is only a few years old that much is obvious! I am friends with the auto parts broker that sold dale something like1200 condensors and radiators Dale is so stupid that he baught them all thinki g that they would fit in all hondas!!!! Nope it only fits in honda ex 96 to 99 very specific parts. Goes to show this guy isnt to bright but smart enough to be a crook! Not smart enough for me though. Also Dale told me my rack and pinion needed to be replaced whicn when i dropped my car off i told him that all ready and the supension and exhuast work...and about a ground wire and a e break cable... Anyways he told me the rack and pinion is 1200$!!!!!! Then he proceeded to say he wanted 1600$!!! For the labor to put it in. First off a rack and pinion in a shop like that takes 1 1/2 hours to replace and its very very easy with a lift and air tools. About a 101$ job and that's if they are paid the max pay rate by colorado law! Also the rack and pinion is only 178$ with a mechanics discount a original oem remaned best money can buy!!! In total this job cost 279$ now Dale wanted 900$ tofix my exhuast all it needed was two donut gaskets that go inline in the pipes! These gaskets i pickedup at orielys next door same place Dale gets his btw i had a friend that worked there. They were 5.99$ a piece! The job is veryeasy and straight forward unscrew two bolts wack the old donut out with a flat head and hammer then put the new donut in put two bolts back on... This with airtools on a list is roughly a 10 minute job and thats if you are a slacker so 6.70$ in labor at max legal pay rate!!!! Also he wanted 2500$ for putting in new suspension. I can do supension pretty quick if i rent a hydrolicspring compressor about 20 minutes a strut unless one gives me trouble getting it out. Really really really fancy super stiff super hard core racing supension koni yellow struts and H&R sports coils is 520$ total. Koni is better then Bilisters which is what most race car drivers use but i prefer Koni its about 4 to 5 times better any "real" professional knows this...its a 1 hour 20 minute job so like 80$ in labour. Also Dale told me the whole electrical system of my car is fried! I tore it to pieces took the panneling off fenders offbumpers off everything! And ran threw it I found one problem one!!!! The G603 ground was disconnected when a noob put new speakers in the back and forgot to reconect it! becuase he installed the wire wrong in the wrong order so to work around that he removed the G603 ground. very common mistake the wiring problem can be one of two things, I told dale that its one of those two things things and said i want that ground fixed which he didn't even fix or look at obviously.... This is free to fix!!! No oarts needed unless you dont know how to remove panneling without breaking the clips. Then you have to buy a box ofthem for 3.99$ this is a 15 minute job no diagnosing was needed i allready did that... 15 minutes by state law is 16.75$ at max!!!! Not a 1200$ fix.... Then dale said my back breaks were bad which i checked the drums all ready they are in perfect condition! However like i told dalethere was so ething wro g with my e break cable and to check it out! Its a easy fix if you can do that today id appreciate it! He lied told me my back breaks need to be fixed he said it would cost 2000$ lol moron! Anyways what was wrong was thee break cable had mositure in it and got a little rust in it is all normal problem on a 22 year old honda... Thee break cable is 28$ and is a 15 mi ute job so another 16.75$ also dale said theelectrical system was fried and thats why the drivers side window doesn't work i checked the power to the motor its getting power fine just the moster is seized...you know i might even be able to just oil it up and unseize it depends.... It could just be becuase the seal on the door pannel has been broken from the guy that installed the speakers so moisture got in the motor... Could cost 5 cents of lube and 16.75$ in work. read more

I had a 120K service performed on a Friday, picked it up before they closed. Before I got home the engine overheated. I had to pull over and discovered they had drained the antifreeze but not put in any antifreeze solution. I had to get picked up to go purchase some antifreeze and put it in to get home. When I called to complain I was asked to bring it back so they could recheck it. I will never go back! It cost me several hundred dollars and I am not sure anything was done correctly. read more

If you don't want to be ripped off find another garage. I was charged $54.00 just to tell me what I already knew was the problem - a leaking steering hose. They tightened the hose and put in some fluid for which they charged me another $10.00. But the ripoff was they wanted to install a new power steering line for $700.00 and a flush for another $110.00. They also said my transmission was leaking (which was not true) and wanted another $310.00 for that! I refused the additional services and the car has been running fine.
