It appears we are in the unfortunate minority of those that have received terrible service from Gunbarrel. I could not be there to drop off our vehicle, so my wife was given the full "wallet flush" treatment, with Gunbarrel recommending the snake oil "injector flush" and unnecessary brake fluid change. They were completely unrepentant when I challenged them on their shady tactics. We received the vehicle back with the undertray not attached properly and leaking oil all over our driveway and garage. Perhaps they have new ownership or were having a bad day, but this was a classic dishonest, sloppy mechanic that we all hear about. Steer clear or at least be extremely careful about what you agree to with these guys, and make sure you inspect the quality of their work before leaving their location. read more

Let me start of the main reason for this review, that'll be a misrepresentation of a condition of the vehicle that I flew all the way from Los Angeles to pick up. As you might expect, I end up nor buying it. After a long search on the web I found a vehicle 1995 Porsche 911 Cab with 68,000 miles on Craigslist listed by John, the owner of the Gunbarrel Import Motors. Car was described as True Mileage example with only two issues. Convertible Top has to be replaced with some hardware as well as a small leak from a chain cover. After a long conversation with Jake and John we went over the issues, that I was totally fine with, I agreed to fly in to pick up the vehicle. Before flying in, I asked them to perform a Compression test as well as a leak down test that I was happy to pay for as long as a car I'm buying is true to the description I was given. So, I paid for the test, Jake asked if I want to change the spark plugs, which I agreed to as long as test comes back within acceptable tolerances. Got a test results back, and I'm by no means a mechanic but a leak down test was shown as a 0% which is impossible on a 30 year old car, which already was a big sign that something is wrong, at this point my flight was booked as well as a hotel to stay over in Denver, and then I was planning on driving a car back to LA through the Rockies to celebrate our wedding anniversary with my wife. When I finally got to Gunbarrel, I took a car on a test drive, and quickly found out that the odometer on a car is not working, canceling a claim of a true mileage, one of the headlights was not working, AC blower was powering itself off intermittently, and the biggest issue was that the small leak they mentioned wasn't small at all, on top of that the were a bunch of small issues that I wont mention. After a test drive I got on the ground to check for the leak and the whole underside of the vehicle was covered in oil, as well as some oil was dripping on the exhaust and burning with smoke getting into the cabin. John new that I'm planning on driving this car back to Los Angeles through the mountains and the desert, and I asked repeatedly if I can do that, to which I got a reply that a car is in great shape and it shouldn't be an issue. With this type of leak it was unsafe to drive, so I had no choice but leave without a car, get a rental and at least complete a road trip that me and my wife were so excited about, spending even more money that I wasn't expecting to spend. When I asked John about at least a partial refund for the test and spark plugs replacement, he just brushed me off and said that he can't do anything. Horrible experience that I had to go through, and it just solidified my belief that even small mom and pop dealerships are lying through their teeth to sell you a car. Here is a VIN for the car I was trying to buy WP0CA299XSS341808, so if you are reading this review please be aware, as now I understand why they won't list it on their website. PS. they tried to charge me $670 for an oil change. I called around and oil change for this cat is between $250 and $400 that official Porsche dealer was asking. Such a rip off. read more

I have taken my Jaguar in for service and repair twice now. I have been so impressed both times. I don't trust repair shops easily, and I expected to feel ripped off after each time there. However, both times I have felt like they are honest and have integrity. They want to help me to give my car a long life and at a reasonable cost. And so far, I have been so impressed. Today, I thought that I would have a $2000 alternator replacement cost and they found that a plug just needed to be plugged in better, so they did that, charged my battery up for me, filled my coolant, reprogrammed my battery to the car. They did all of that for just the diagnostic fee. I was very pleased. Thank you!! I will be back in 2000 miles when I need an oil change. read more

I was a satisfied customer of Gunbarrel Import Motors for 20 years, however it is not the shop it used to be. I will not go there again. I look for 3 things in auto repair: Competence, honesty and price. Gunbarrel used to be competent and honest, but now they fail on all three categories. The last two services for my Mini and Porsche left me feeling cheated and financially cleaned out. Lots of extra work performed without my approval and a lot of recommendations for work that was not needed, both times they wanted to pull the engines on cars with less than 80,000 miles. The kicker was a $10,000 bill for the Porsche, mostly legitimate charges (oil service, steering rack, rear brakes, spark plugs and wires) if you don't count replacing hood gas springs which is an easy DIY not worth $250. They failed to adjust the parking brake when doing the rear brakes and no follow-up. On the Mini, they talked me into replacing all the engine pulleys and water pump then replaced the battery and wipers without approval. Worst thing was massively over torquing the lug bolts, not just a bit, but enough to require a wrench extension to remove. John is a great guy, but he needs to sit Jake down and have a talk about long term customer satisfaction and not just going for a quick buck. read more

I had a great experience with this family owned and operated business. They performed a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) for me. Jacob spent lots of time looking over the vehicle and took the time to explain everything he found. His recommendations for repairs were fair and competitively priced. DO NOT GO HERE!!! IF I COULD RATE THEM A 0 STAR I WOULD!!! I have a 2013 bmw x 3. I usually go to Modern Specialist in Boulder ( for 20 years ) but I was in Niwot and decided to give Gun barrel Imports a try. BAD MISTAKE. My issue was a warning light on my dash "Drive Train malfunction, please consult a service area." I was told that because of the severity of the issue that they would work me in. After not hearing from them for 24 hours, I called and was told that they were not done running diagnostics and they would call me later that afternoon. I didn't hear from them so I called them and was told that one of their techs went home with a bummed up knee or ankle...anyway, as time goes on, the next phone call I received was "Hey your car is ready for pick up. It's done." NO CALL to me to let me know what was wrong with the vehicle or how much it would cost. They told me that they did an oil change and that seemed to fix the issue!!! I JUST HAD my oil changed the week before!!! They said that the place I went to used bad oil. When I compared the receipts and the types of oil, they were the SAME! When I picked up my vehicle and complained, they removed the charge for the oil change but still charged me $365 for services that my vehicle supposedly needed. They did not tell me they were doing anything other than fixing the warning that was on my dash. I drove my x3 for about a week and the same warning light showed up again! I went back to them and they ran the diagnostics again and said that the oil changed fixed something because now there were only 3 out of the 6 issues showing up. I was also told that the vehicle was safe to drive and to not worry about it. They scheduled me an appointment for 8.16.17. Where we are today 8.12.17, Modern Specialist ran the same diagnostics for my car and found out that all I need was a software update. There was a bulletin put out that my 2013 x3 was due for a software update!!! I asked Jake ( Gunbarrel Imports) why he didn't find that. He had no idea what I was even talking about. As I was driving it, the turbo was ceased and I could not drive it so had it towed to the BMW in Boulder. THIS ALL HAPPENED BECAUSE GUNBARREL IMPORTS MISDIAGNOSED MY ISSUE, TOLD ME IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, BILLED ME $365 FOR THINGS I DID NOT AUTHORIZE AND STILL OFFERED NO REFUND. read more

Let me start it by saying that , if you're looking for a place to fix you imported car DO NOT COME HERE . You're telling me to just diagnose it cost 150! The total to fix the problem to my car was going to be a total of 900$ a total of 1,000 dollars for a fix than can almost cost a total of 300 in which I did pay at another place,with better quality . DO NOT GO HERE FOR REPAIRS. complete rip off. they gave me estimate 440 dollars plus 395 dollar for a fix that would have cost me 190 dollars (including labor) as quoted by 2 OTHER garages. and the next day they said there is another problem before they can fix my car and cost another 440 dollars. they end up charging you over 5 times the price it should be due to some mythical other component that they need to replace/install/fix. shady company. I would recommend NOT doing business with this establishment. They misdiagnosed the failure but more importantly wanted to charge me an additional diagnostic fee when the problem persisted. I found much better service from Autowerks Porsche Audi Repair in Lavayette ( well worth the drive. ) GUNBARREL IMPORT MOTORS IS A SHADY PLACE TO MAKE A QUICK BUCK FROM INNOCENT PEOPLE. read more

When I lived in Boulder I took my two Porsches to area mechanics and was quite impressed with the professionalism and work done to my cars over the years. Now, I live nearly 5 hours away in a small ski resort where we do not have any Porsche specific mechanics. As my fiance' has a home near Niwot, I chose to try Gunbarrel Import Motors. Because I need my Cayenne for business as a real estate broker it is very important my time be utilized well when being without my work vehicle for any length of time. The first time I dropped off my Cayenne I gave a lengthy list of things I wanted looked at. Of the entire list they replaced my rear door struts (cost of parts is under $100) and charged over $800 for that replacement. They also flushed my transmission as I was having a very hard down shift every time I drove my Cayenne. I bought an extensive warranty when I purchased the Cayenne and made it very clear the warranty company needed to be contacted prior to any transmission repairs. As I drove home my Cayenne quickly started doing the very hard down shift again - problem was not resolved. I made another appointment, drove yet another 5 hours in each direction and arranged for transportation so I could leave my Cayenne for at least two weeks if necessary. Over two weeks later I still had not heard from Gunbarrel Import Motors. When my fiance' called to check on the status he was told my warranty company would not cover the repair. He asked if they had actually talked to my warranty company and the gentleman said "no, I did not. I've been doing this for 12 years and I know they won't cover it." After my Cayenne sat at Gunbarrel Import Motors for over two weeks with NO ONE even calling my warranty company and NO ONE being able to repair the downshift issue, I was upset. I picked up the Cayenne only to find two dime sized dollops of grease on the camel colored leather seats, the white stitching on the steering wheel was now a light black color from dirty hands I presume, a small nick in the leather and a broken plastic door panel piece they had broken off and just placed in my back seat! Thankfully a friend who heard what happened recommended a mechanic closer to home who test drove my Cayenne and immediately got it to do the down shift and immediately diagnosed it as a common problem for this year Cayenne. He then called my warranty company and they are willing to pay up to $2,000 to repair this issue. To say the least, I am very disappointed with the lack of professionalism and arrogant attitude shown towards me and my fiance'. I have never written a YELP review but strongly felt this situation warranted one. read more
