I spent over 7 thosand dollars, all I got was problems. Here I am 14 months later with everything from the transmission, to the heater core now needing to be replaced AGAIN. I brought my truck back in the day after I got it back, reporting a noise caused by a incorrectly reinstalled component, and and the transmission not wanting to shift into third gear. They denied that the noise was coming from within the truck and said they would quote me to fix a problem they caused, and didnt even bother looking at my truck, as it never moved (small pebble on rear tire was still there) , and the key was in the same place I left it two weeks prior. Today as I noticed the floor was wet, I now see that my 1 year old heater core is leaking! I called to talk about my options, and was very rudely told that the 1 year parts warrenty was expired, and told to kick rocks. When it comes to cars I'm an idiot. Scratch that, a complete idiot. Recently my Subaru died and I had to have my friends come give me a jump. I went and got the battery replaced but to no avail. I proceeded to go into a panic about replacing the alternator after researching replacement costs online. I found this place on Yelp and couldn't be happier. When I first pulled up, the owner meet me in the parking lot and immediately looked under the hood. Within 30 seconds he told me it was just the belt. Within 20 minutes the replacement belt was delivered, installed and I was driving off thrilled that I didn't need anything more than that! During the service the mechanic working on my vehicle walked me through the process, explained how alternators work and causes for them to go bad. Not only did I get extremely fast service and great customer service, I got a bit of an education as well! Now I'm still a mechanical idiot, just not as much as before. I'm not a car guy, at all... My usual mechanic shop, close to my home, quoted $2100 to replace struts and mounts on my Camry.. A friend who is a car guy, suggested I ask Kevin (his mechanic) for pricing.. Kevin did the job for $900.. Recently my starter died one block from the "close to home" shop.. Knowing I'd pay a little more but thinking that a tow to Sand City might eat up any savings, I got a AAA tow (no cost for 2 block tow) to the close to home shop.. Cost to replace the starter was $439... Later, Kevin told me that his charge would have been $258... Live and learn.. The close to home owner is a great guy and does excellent work... I had the battery light come on in my Toyota Tacoma. All signs pointed to either a bad alternator or voltage regulator but I wanted to make sure so I ended up taking the alternator to 3 different parts stores, each time being told they couldn't test it for various seasons. The last one was nice enough to direct me to Alternator Starter Exchange at 329 Olympia ave. I told Kevin what had gone on, he checked it out and came back saying the alternator was fine. He said there must be something else going on, put the alternator back in the vehicle and bring it out so he could look it over. The next day I stopped in and within 10 minutes he found a wire that had come loose from a terminal at the fuse box. He re-crimped the fitting and soldered it just to be sure. I asked what I owed and he said he'd catch up with me next time. I'm not sure when the next time will be but I will definitely remember Kevin! I could not have asked to meet a more honest and helpful person. read more
