We were on a road trip taking my son back to CSUMB from Southern California and three miles from our hotel. On a Friday Night. After 5pm. And the head gasket blew on our car. On a kind of "desolate" stretch of road in a newly developed section of Ft. Ord. While we were waiting for AAA, we were looking for somewhere to take the car until we could get a handle on things the next day. After calling a few places with no success, the frustration was building. Chet actually called me back even though it was basically a missed call since I didn't leave a message and hung up right away. After explaining things to Chet, he reassured me, and told me to go ahead and park at his shop and he would take a look at it the next day. When I spoke with Chet the next day he explained to me my options, even though we ultimately decided to tow the car back to Southern California. One of the things he did tell me was to be careful because of a sneaky way mechanics "fix" head gaskets that's a temporary and doesn't fix the problem in the long run. Did he have to tell me that? No. Did he have to let me park at his shop that was closed on a Friday? No. Did he charge me a storage fee for parking there? No. Did he charge me for his diagnosis? No. Even though he was well within his right to do so. I highly recommend this place for anybody looking for a truly honest mechanic. He is not trying to squeeze people, or nickel and dime you on unnecessary service or repairs . Even though his location is kind of tucked away, make the effort to find this place and support this business. Mechanics are easy to find. Honest mechanics? Not so much. The fact that we could relax and enjoy the rest of the trip without having to worry about the car so much was a real relief. Go support this honest mechanic. You'll be glad you did. read more
