Disappointed in their work. After the initial quote, he randomly showed up early in the morning on a Saturday with no notification, and we had to rush over because he didn't call us until he arrived. The actual inspection wasn't very thorough -- no snake cameras or anything here, just a smartphone taking pictures up through the flue. "Cleaning" was just sticking a vacuum hose up through the flue. Finally, we needed repointing work done above the roof line. Later, we replaced our roof and discovered that underneath some tarring the previous owners had added, there was more deterioration in the mortar. Alton and his masons didn't think to look for or fix these issues when they were here. When I called him and explained the situation, he said that they didn't fix it because he "couldn't see under the tar", and they would charge us full price to come back out and fix the problem they missed the first time around. Wouldn't use them again. read more

I had a great experience with Altons Finest. It can be difficult finding honest people when you need work done. Either you don't hear back or the prices are crazy but not with Ricky. He got right back to me. A good tip is to give him all your info up front so he doesn't have to exchange texts as it sounds like he gets a lot of business related ones! He came right out and was so honest. He said upfront that if I didn't need a cleaning then he would let me know and I didn't need one so I only paid for the inspection. Ricky is terrific. Very friendly and communicative, and his prices are fair. He came to clean the chimney for our woodstove insert, and it turned out that the caps on our chimney were bluestone, and weighed about 60 pounds each, and it wouldn't allow him to clean the flue with his current tools. He explained he could come back with the right equipment, but it would be 30 dollars more. We asked him to come back because we liked him and the price still seemed fair. He came back two days later, on time, and got right to work. He also informed me that he would charge me the original price he quoted! He took before and after photos of the work, and of the bluestone caps to show us what they looked like. We've found our chimney guy! read more
